Sam woke up face down on the bedroom floor. She groaned in pain as she got up on her knees and massaged her forehead to try to ease the headache. She looked around and noticed that it was completely dark. There was no sunlight, no moonlight, not even any starlights.

"Huh?" she wondered out loud and turned behind her, "Hey, what's going-?"

Sam stopped. There was no one there. She had gotten so used to Phantom Dan's presence, she had completely forgotten he wasn't guiding her anymore. In his place was just his worn, leather journal lying there on the floor. Sam picked up the journal and held it tight against her chest, as if she were trying to hold him close to her again. But Dan wasn't there to return the embrace. She was all alone. She had to guide herself now.

She stood up still hugging the book tight and tried to think of what to do next. Sam's first thought was to run. Just run. Away from this house, away from this wedding, and away from that woman. She quickly dismissed that idea. As much as she wanted to get as far away as possible from Penelope Masters, Sam knew that she couldn't. She couldn't just leave Dan behind. She couldn't let Mrs. Masters get away with his murder, and furthermore, she couldn't let her murder again. Mrs. Masters needed to be stopped right now. How Sam was going to do that though, she had no idea, but she wasn't going to figure it out by just standing here.

Lacking any pockets, Sam tucked the journal inside her corset. It felt very uncomfortable, but she didn't want to leave it behind. She needed Dan as close to her as possible. Having done that, she walked out of the room and into the dark hallway. Sam stumbled around as she looked for a candle, cursing under her breath along the way. Suddenly, she stopped and listened. She could hear voices that sounded very similar to her parents and grandmother, but they didn't sound like they were coming from inside. What in the world was her family doing outside in the middle of the night. Curious, Sam stumbled downstairs, holding the banister very tightly in the dark. She followed the voices out the back door and into the garden. She found her family staring at something on the ground, talking softly to each other and looking around them, as if they were afraid somebody might notice them out here.

"Alright, now I'm worried," Jeremy said, "We need to get the police down here right now. I don't know what sort of insanity this family is doing, but I want it stopped right now before our daughter gets hurt."

"Your assuming she's still here, dearie," Ida replied, "But I agree with you, nonetheless."

"Oh, my dear daughter," Pamela sobbed, "And to think that I thought that this would be a wonderful family for her. Oh This is all my fault! My poor, precious princess!"

Sam blinked in surprise. Did her mother just call her a "poor, precious princess?"

"Mother?" she asked, "Are you feeling okay?"

Everyone turned and stared back at her. For a few seconds, nobody said a word. Finally, Pamela broke the silence.

"Oh, Sam! My darling!" she ran to Sam and hugged her tightly, "Are you alright? You're not hurt, are you! Oh! This is all my fault! I should have listened to you!"

Sam's mouth dropped wide open in shock. Was she dreaming or was her mother really showering her with love for once in her life?

"Mother?" Sam asked skeptically as she broke herself off from the embrace, "What's going on? What sort of trick are you pulling here?"

"Sam!" now it was Jeremy's turn to express his relief at having her back, "Pamela-"

"QUACK QUACK QUACK! QUACK QUACK!"

Sam looked at her mother funny as her father continued, "And I have been so worried about you! Where on earth have you been for these past two days?"

"Two days?" she broke away from the hug, "I've been gone for two days?"

"Yes, dearie," Ida joined in, "We've been so worried. The maid certainly was, poor dearie."

"Poor dearie?" Sam asked, "What do you mean 'poor dearie?' What's been going on here? What happened to the maid? And why is Mother acting all weird?"

"Well," Jeremy started as Ida suppressed a grin, "I can't answer about your mother, but as for the maid, well-"

"Don't look, darling!" Pamela stood right in front of the spot she and the other two had been at just minutes before and spread her arms wide, "Don't look! Oh, it's terrible!"

Sam marched right up to her mother and managed to push her aside. She stared at Star lying lifelessy in front of her with a very familiar expression of horror on her face. Then she noticed the backpack full of mysterious beeping devices. Ida followed Sam's questioning glance down to the backpack and answered her unasked question.

"Those, dearie, belonged to those paranormal experts Star found last night. Two girls were actually here earlier tonight, but I haven't seen them since. After finding the poor dearie down there, I'm really starting to get worried about them."

"Which is why," Jeremy said, grabbing Sam by the shoulders and pushing her towards the front of the house, "We're leaving right now. Now that we have you back, I'm not spending another second more than I have to in this insane asylum! Now let's go!"

"Right you are, my darling prince," Pamela said from right behind him, "The police can handle this. Let's just get out and never come back!"

A breeze blew towards Sam, blowing through her hair and loosening the violet she had pinned onto it. The violet flew free from her hair and followed the wind. Sam reached to snatch it back, but it danced out of her grasp. Then she understood. She broke free from her father and followed the flower.

"Sam!" he protested.

"Sam!" her mother chased after her, "Princess! Come back!"

"Sorry, Mother!" Sam called back, stopping for a moment to retrieve the backpack. Seeing as Mrs. Masters was paranormal, a few paranormal devices might help her, "It's something I need to do!"

"But, darling!"

Ida grabbed Pamela by the wrist and pulled her back, "Pamela-"

"QUACK!"

"If Sam says she needs to do something, then she needs to do it! Let the girl alone!"

Sam didn't hear what her mother said. She followed the violet back inside the house. Even then, the wind would not die down. The flower continued to dance gracefully alongside with it, going up the staircase and down the hall. When Sam got to the study's door, the wind finally stopped. Sam reached out her hand and caught the violet in the palm of her hand.

"Let us go!" she heard a young woman shouting from inside the room.

"You're not going to get away this!" another young woman joined in, "Father's going to notice we're gone! He'll come after you!"

"Your father is a complete fool," Mrs. Masters retorted, "And if you think he'll be able to stop me, then you're an even bigger fool than he is."

Sam nodded grimly at the violet and quickly tucked it back into her hair. She tried the door but discovered it was locked. She rifled through the backpack looking for something, anything, that would open this damn door.

"You're still not going to get away with this!" the young woman continued.

"Oh, but darling," Mrs. Masters said in her syrupy voice, "I've been getting away with this for over four hundred and fifty years."

"That's long enough," Sam mumbled, still desperately looking for a useful weapon.

She felt her finger push some sort of button, resulting in a bright green ray to shoot out of the backpack and straight at the door with a loud blast. Along with Mrs. Masters, there was a redheaded young woman tied to a chair while Bertrand held back a dark-haired girl in a tight bear hug. Mrs. Masters turned and stared through the newly scorched hole in her door and saw Sam standing there with a look of surprise on her face as well as all the others.

"Samantha! Darling!" Mrs. Masters greeted her with an evil grin, "Welcome back home, dearie."

Glaring at her, Sam took out what looked like a giant gun and pointed it at the other's face.

"Speaking of going home," she said, "How about we send you back home to Hell?"

She pulled the trigger and with a BANG! out came a blast of bright, green slime. Mrs. Masters quickly dissolved into her black mist and tackled Sam to the ground, solidifying herself on top of her. Sam reached out to wring her by the neck, but her arms went through as Mrs. Masters made her neck an inky mist. Taking advantage of the new distraction, the dark-haired girl kicked from behind her, once again injuring Bertrand's "package." He shouted in pain again and dropped to the floor.

"Will you stop doing that!" he cried out.

Mrs. Masters turned to see what the problem was, allowing Sam to roll over and knock her attacker to the ground. As the dark-haired girl ran to free the redhead, Sam got on top of Mrs. Masters ready to punch her face in, but once again, the older woman turned herself into a mist and easily escaped the blow. Slipping from underneath Sam's legs, she became solid once more and delivered a punch of her own at the back of Sam's head, knocking her back down to the ground. As Sam struggled to sit back up, Mrs. Masters pinned her wrists down and leered over her. She smiled evilly as the gemstone around her neck started to glow brighter and brighter.

"Hey! Leave her alone!"

The Fenton Bazooka let out another BANG! as Jazz pulled the trigger, sending the goop towards Mrs. Masters and knocking her off Sam. Jazz helped the fallen girl to her feet as Dani dove for the fallen backpack, pulling out different weapons. Mrs. Masters growled and stood back up to face the three girls. After giving her butler still groaning in a heap on the floor a quick glare, she held out her hand with her palm facing the young woman and shot out a bright green ray towawrds them. Jazz jerked Sam back as Dani leapt out of the way. Luckily, the shot missed them.

"The hell was that?" Sam asked, looking back.

"It's called an Ecto-ray, darling," Mrs. Masters sneered, "Would you like a closer look?"

Another ray shot out as the girls quickly leapt out of the way.

"Dammit, Bertrand!" Mrs. Masters shouted, giving him a hard kick in his side, "Will you get your lazy rump up and help me!"

"I'm in a bit of some pain here, Penelope!" he shouted back.

"Get up and get over it!"

As the two continued to bicker, Dani grabbed a Bazooka of her own out of the pack and shoved the other gadgets quickly inside. She hoisted the bag onto her back and raced out of the room with Jazz and Sam close behind.

"Hey!" Mrs. Masters shouted after them, "Stop! Dammit, Bertrand! Now look what you've done! After them!"

Before Bertrand could even get up, Mrs. Masters assumed her misty form and chased after them. She quickly blew ahead of the girls towards the staircase and assumed her human form once more before them, blocking their way down. Sam gasped as Mrs. Masters began to split into two, creating an exact copy of herself. The clone then split itself until there were three Mrs. Masters smirking at the women's shock. The three evil women charged at them. Immediately, Dani and Jazz fired off their Bazookas. Sam was instantly tackled back down to the ground and punched hard in the face. Jazz missed the clone she was aiming for as it shot an Ecto-ray at her, knocking her backwards. Dani shot at her attacker then swung the butt of the Bazooka at Jazz's and Sam's. Two of the evil women disappeared and the one that remained moaned in pain as she was sent to the floor. Dani got Sam back up and shoved two small gun-like weapons into her hand.

"Here," she said, "They're the Fenton Wrist Rays. Strap them to your wrists and use them to protect yourself."

Not even a second had passed when Mrs. Masters dove for them with an angry cry. Sam quickly pushed a button on one if the Wrist Rays, hitting Mrs. Masters in the abdomen with a green ray and knocking her back onto one of the walls.

"Wow," Sam grinned at the tiny weapons as she strapped them on, "This is the perfect accessory... of pain."

Returning Sam's grin, Dani nodded and aimed her Bazooka at Mrs. Masters. But the other had shot an Ecto-ray right before Dani could pull the trigger, making the weapon fly out of her hands and down the stairs. Jazz turned her Bazooka at Mrs. Masters, but was tackled down by Bertrand.

"Nice of you to finally show up," Mrs. Masters remarked sarcastically, as she kicked the weapon out of Jazz's reach.

Sam shot the Wrist Rays again, once at Mrs. Masters and once at Bertrand. Bertrand was pushed off, but this time, Mrs. Masters turned into a mist, evading the attack. Jazz got to her feet and pushed Mrs. Masters to the ground as she began to become solid. She picked up her Bazooka and ran down the stairs with Dani and Sam right behind her. Unfortunately, so were Mrs. Masters and Bertrand. Bertrand dove for them, temporarily forgetting that one shouldn't dive down a straight staircase, let alone a spiral one. He shouted out as he rolled and tumbled down the stairs, knocking the girls down with him. As they landed on the bottom step, Jazz's Bazooka and Sam's Wrist Rays were accidently triggered, letting loose green rays and knocking down a crystal chandelier from the ceiling. Everyone rolled out of the way as it came crashing down. The vibration of the chandelier hitting the floor sent vases and busts crashing down as well. Unforturnately, two of these vases hit both Dani and Jazz in the heads, knocking them unconscious. Sam started to get up to drag them out, but Mrs. Masters stomped hard onto her back, sending her back down. Sam rolled over and aimed the Wrist Rays at her, but Bertrand had gotten up and pinned them down. A green ray shot out and left a scorch mark on the ceiling above her.

"Well, well," Mrs. Masters tsked as she shook her head at the damage before her, "Look at what you and your little friends have done, Samantha. You've completely destroyed my house. I just simply can't stand for that. So, I'm afraid, my dear, that I'm going to have to punish you."

"You mean like you punished all your other husbands?" Sam spat out, "And like Tucker? And Dan, too?"

Mrs. Masters and Bertrand both glanced at each other quizzically before returning their attention back to their captive.

"Smart girl," Mrs. Masters answered, "You remind me of Valerie. She had the same spunk as you did, if I recall. Only she didn't resist her marriage so much as Dashiel's doing now. I'll deal with him later. As for you, I don't know how you managed to find all of those out, but I promise you, you won't be able to tell anyone about it."

Sam continued to struggle as Mrs. Masters got on top of her with her gemstone glowing brightly. Sam thought she felt Bertrand's hands getting a bit sweatier as she wriggled on the floor. But all hopes of slipping her hands out from his grasp disappeared when Mrs. Masters grabbed at Sam's wrists, allowing Bertrand to let go.

"Truth be told, darling," Mrs. Masters continued as the amulet shone brightly down, "As I was going to wait until after the honeymoon to dispose of you and have Dashiel inherit your money, but apparently, you decided to interfere." Realizing she wasn't going to be able to wriggle free, Sam started to search for the button on the Wrist Rays with her index finger, "Shame really. This could have been so much easier for you if you had followed my plan."

A ray shot out onto the wall behind Mrs. Masters and sent several portraits down, knocking into a pedestal. Mrs. Masters turned to see the pedestal come crashing onto her. Sam got up and ran to Dani and Jazz. Bertrand grabbed a fallen painting and hurled it at her with a frustrated growl. It whizzed past her head and hit the wall ahead of her. Still growling, he grabbed at the scepter that Mrs. Masters had him leave at the front door and charged, swinging the red staff high above his head. As she knelt down to Dani, Bertrand swung the staff down hard onto Sam's head. She cried out and turned towards him, shooting off another ray. It hit him in the stomach and sent him down.

"Give me those!"

Having transformed back into a mist, Mrs. Masters grabbed Sam's wrists and pulled off the weapons, breaking their straps in the process. She pushed her back down and threw them onto the ground. She stomped on them, making them release one last shot before dying, blasting a hole into the front door. There stood an officer poised as if he were about to knock. Mrs. Masters quickly tried to assume her human form again, but the damage had been done. The officer had seen her other form and was staring back with wide eyes.

"What the hell-?" he said in a southeren accent.

Mrs. Masters quickly grabbed the staff back from Bertrand and held it in front of the stupefied officer's face.

"You saw nothing!" she shouted angrily at him, "Nothing! You hear me, Walker!"

Walker stared at the crystal ball and slowly slurred, "Nothing? I saw nothing?"

"That's right!"

Sam got up to her feet and ran for Mrs. Masters. Bertrand tried to stop her, but she gave him a hard shove with her elbow and continued running. She grabbed the crystal ball scepter from Mrs. Masters and smashed it to the ground.

"NO!"

Too late. Glass littered the floor and the red clouds inside disintegrated into the air. Walker gave his head a quick shake and glared at Mrs. Masters.

"What the hell is going on here!" he demanded, "What the hell did I just see? And why do you have two unconscious women right behind you?"

"Well," Bertrand replied, "It is the middle of the night, officer."

"Shut up, you idiot!" Mrs. Masters shouted and blasted an Ecto-ray at Walker.

Walker let out a cry of surprise as he was thrown back. Mrs. Masters dove at Sam, but Sam quickly got out of the way. Instead Mrs. Masters crashed into Bertrand. Sam tried to drag Dani and Jazz outside, but quickly realized that would be impossible as Mrs. Masters stood up and headed for her again. Again, Sam got out of the way and snatched the backpack Dani had on earlier and grabbed at something inside. She gave a confused look at the baseball bat with the green "Fenton" sticker on it that she pulled out, but didn't really have any time to question it. Mrs. Masters went for her again. Sam swung the bat as hard as she could, sending her out through the hole in the front door and crashing into Walker as he marched back towards the house. Sensing that Bertrand was behind her, Sam quickly turned around and swung again. She was proven correct as it made contact with his face, knocking him out. Mrs. Masters was back for her. Before Sam could swing, she found herself flat on her back. She glared at the amulet glowing at her as Mrs. Masters panted heavily both in anger and frustration. Sam reached for the amulet, but her hand went through the other woman's neck. Walker had gotten up behind Mrs. Masters and yanked her off.

"I've had enough of this bullshit from you," he said, "I don't care what you are, you're going to jail! Attempting to kill young women is against the rules!"

"You fool!" she answered blasting him again with another Ecto-ray, "Can't you see I'm above your pathetic rules?"

"The amulet!" Sam shouted at him, getting up, "The amulet is how she's still here! It needs to be destroyed!"

Walker nodded in understanding and charged for Mrs. Masters. As her attention went towards him, Sam snuck up from behind her and prepared to swing the bat at her head. Mrs. Masters realized what Sam was doing and split into two again. Walker tackled the clone down while the real Mrs. Masters grabbed Sam by the head and bashed her into the wall several times. Sam was starting to see stars when a BANG! came from behind, knocking Mrs. Masters off. Sam slid to the ground to see that Dani had woken up. Jazz was starting to stir, too. Dani bent down to check and see if Sam was alright. Though the world still looked blurry to Sam, she was still able to get a good look at Dani's face. Funny. She thought she recognized that face. And those eyes. And the way her hair was pulled back.

"Your his sister," Sam said as realization set in, "You're Dan's sister, aren't you?"

Dani gave her a confused look, "You knew my brother?"

"Yeah," Sam answered, relieved to see that her eyesight was returning to normal, "I thought you went to Wisconsin."

"I did. Star called us back."

"He didn't want you to come back. You're in grave danger!"

"As are you," Dani got Sam up to her feet, "I don't know how you found out about me, but if you really knew Dan like you say, then you know I have to do this. It's time I faced my fears and end this, all of this, right now!"

"The amulet," Sam pointed as Walker and Mrs. Masters continued their struggle, "That's how she killed him. We need to destroy it."

"I'll get it. You, Jazz, and Walker distract her."

Jazz had heard what her cousin had said and shot her Bazooka at Mrs. Masters. Mrs. Masters and Walker avoided the blast. Glaring at Jazz, Mrs. Masters multiplied into four and attacked. The battle resumed. Everyone hit, shot, swung, and tackled with what seemed to be no end to this fight. Jazz had managed to destroy the clone attacking her and went to help Walker. Sam finished off her clone with several swings of the Anti-Creep Stick and ran towards Dani. Mrs. Masters easily escaped the girls, but was tackled down by Walker after he and Jazz had destroyed another clone. Before she could get away, Walker quickly snatched the amulet from her neck.

"Looks like you won't be needing- Hey!" Bertrand had woken up and snatched the amulet from Walker's hand, "Give me that back! Stealing from an officer is against the rules!"

Jazz blasted Bertrand with the Bazooka, making him fly right at Dani with the amulet still in his hand. As he crashed into the wall, he released the amulet, allowing Dani to catch it. Then Mrs. Masters shot at Dani and grabbed it back. Walker went for a weapon inside the forgotten backpack and pulled out the Fenton Booo-mering. He hurled it at her, knocking her in the head. The Booo-mering went back and hit her again and again until she let go of the amulet. She tried to snatch it back, but Dani caught it. She slapped it out of Dani's hand and sent it towards her butler. Bertrand tried to grab it, but Sam swung the Anti-Creep Stick at him, knocking him out once again. She saw Mrs. Masters sprint towards her, so she grabbed the amulet and ran outside. Leading Mrs. Masters on a chase she ran out of the house, out of the property, and into the cemetary. Running out of breath, she stopped and turned to see her attacker coming closer and closer.

"Enough of this, Samantha!" Mrs. Masters shouted, panting as she stopped, "Give me the amulet and I'll let your little friends and your little family go. Why, I'll even let you go to continue on with your pathetic life. Now give it to me!"

"What?" Sam dangled the amulet in front of her, "You mean this?"

"Don't play games with me, girl," Mrs. Masters snarled, "If you know what I've done for these past four hundred and fifty years, then you know exactly what I'm capable of in my true form. Give. Me. The. Amulet. Now."

Sam smirked and threw the amulet hard to the ground. She raised the Anti-Creep Stick high above her head.

"No!"

Mrs. Masters dove, but she was too late. Sam swung the Anti-Creep Stick down hard onto the gemstone, cracking it down the middle. She swung again. Little cracks started to spread. Again. The cracks grew wider. Again and again she hit the amulet with all her might until finally the gem broke into hundreds of small pieces.

"NO!"

Sam watched in awe as thousands of white wisps escaped and twirled about into the air, as if expressing their joy at finally being free after all these years. The wisps swirled and danced round and round Sam's head as they flew into the air and disappeared. A piercing shriek made Sam look back. She stared in horror as Mrs. Masters skin began to crack and peel before her. As the flesh peeled and melted away, they revealed an older version of Mrs. Masters underneath.

"My youth!" she cried out as each new layer revealed itself, "My beautiful youth!"

Finally, the last of her flesh was stripped away, revealing Mrs. Masters true form. A dark, inky shadow floated before Sam. Its clawed hands covered its face in despair before slowly going down. The evil, ruby eyes glared at Sam with bitter hatred.

"You!" it shouted.

Before Sam could react, it charged at her, grabbing her from the front and slammed her down ontop of one of the graves. Sam saw that she was surrounded by blue and purple flowers. She was on top of Dan's grave.

The shadow hissed at her, "You may have stolen my youth! You may have stolen my sole means of existing here in this world! But I am not going down alone!"

It wrapped its talons around Sam's throat, quickly shutting off her air supply. She gasped and clawed at the creature's hands trying to break them free. But it was with no use. It wasn't letting go. The shadow smiled evilly down at her as she continued to choke and sputter. Just as Sam's world was about to turn black, she felt the comforting gust of wind blow through her hair. Suddenly, an ear-piercing wail broke through. The creature turned to see what was causing it, but saw nothing. Only ghostly, green sound waves heading straight for it. They knocked it off of its prey and sent it sprawling towards another tombstone. Sam gasped and rubbed at her throat as wail began to quiet down.

"Penelope!"

Bertrand had found the two at the graveyard and saw his master get up from the ground with a snarl. Then another ghostly wail broke through. Sam braced herself form the impact, but soon discovered that she was untouched. The others, however, were sent back again. Silence again followed by another wail. This time, the ground trembled as it slowly started to crack open. Sam dove back as far as she could as she watched the earth shake and slowly break apart with an eerie green light glowing from beneath.

"No!" the creature hissed as the ground opened underneath, "No!"

It clawed and clawed at the dead grass trying desperately to avoid falling in. Bertrand started to run, but the shadow caught him by the back of his pants. He screamed as he found himself being dragged in alongside with his master. Both grabbed and pulled at the grass, but to no avail. They both screamed as the chasm gave a sudden jerk, making them fall. Sam heard a gasp and looked up. The others had managed to catch up and saw what happened. Carefully, everyone went up to the crack and watched as they fell deeper and deeper into the mysterious, green beyond, screaming all the way. The ground gave one last shake, closing the gap. The wail stopped. The breeze blew one last time, sending down a shower of violet petals upon Sam. She looked up and smiled both in gladness and relief. Penelope Masters and Bertrand were no more.
