Chapter Four
Later that day as Natsu was heading home from his sparring session with Laxus; he came across a crying Happy who was snuggled deep within Lucy's arms. "I tried looking for him everywhere Lucy! He's gone! I'll never see him again and he'll never feed me fish and… and… and…" the little blue cat exceed sobbed even harder into the flustered blonde's bosom as she attempted to comfort him in his obvious distress. She spotted said fire mage as he guiltily approached and immediately went into a fit of rage
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN YOU FLAMING MORON? WE HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR YOU AND HAPPY THOUGHT YOU LEFT HIM TO LOOK FOR IGNEEL WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING OR TAKING HIM WITH YOU! YOU'RE SO LUCKY ERZA WASN'T AROUND BECAUSE SHE WOULD CREAM YOU!" She ranted as she dropped poor Happy in favor of punching Natsu as hard as she could in the jaw, which sent the fire mage whirling toward the wall of a nearby building. "How in the name of magic could you do something like this to your best friend?" she asked incredulously, she looked almost as scary as Erza at that moment; you could practically see the steam pouring from her ears.
"Will you calm down woman?! I went to train with Laxus. I didn't tell Happy because I wanted him to sleep well and I wanted to surprise him when I improve." Natsu replied softly, his head tilted to the ground in shame from being reprimanded for his carelessness. He hadn't thought that he would hurt anyone with a short sparring session, but then again he forgot how unusual his behavior had become lately. Happy flew over and landed on his lap, cuddling Natsu's head to his tiny, furry chest. "It's alright Natsu; you can buy me a fish. I skipped breakfast to look for you so that would be a perfect way to make it up to me." Happy said cheerfully.
The two simply stared at each other for a moment before Natsu smiled his biggest grin, rubbed his best friend's head affectionately, and said "You bet, anything for you buddy" Natsu got up from the ground and walked beside Lucy as they both headed to Happy's favorite fish restaurant, both staying silent because Lucy was a little mortified at her own behavior and Natsu because he didn't know what to say to her.
She had been upset that he might have left too, the tear tracks upon her face and her blotchy complexion a testament to this. The truth was she had secretly been harboring feelings for him ever since her father had sent the guild Phantom Lord to try and bring her home. He had proven that he would never let anyone, including her family, take her away from the guild no matter what he had to face. The problem for her was that she never had the guts to ask him how he felt about her, every time she would get close she would end up saying something lame and then locking herself up inside of Horologium for the rest of the jobs the went on or ran home.
The fire mage had never actually seen Lucy like that, she was always more of a sisterly figure and to be honest he hadn't really taken an interest in anyone. Gray constantly teased him about the fact that he had never even masturbated before, something that he always retorted back with "At least I don't spend all day wanking in my room wishing to get laid by someone who'll never love me back". That ALWAYS ended with a ginormous bruise on his forehead and a nasty bump on his head that throbbed horribly every time he took a breath in.
Gray had a huge crush on Lyon, his from his early childhood years, and had a habit of telling Natsu everything about it because the pinkette had accidentally walked in on him jerking off one afternoon while coming to fetch him for a mission. During that mission when there was free-time Gray explained the whole issue to him and he agreed to never tell anyone else. He felt bad for Gray because Lyon seemed more interested in competing with him than loving him, it seemed like Gray's love would be unrequited.
The whole guild classified Natsu as asexual because he didn't even look at girls or guys in an appreciative way, but that was ok with him because he didn't need drama. Whenever couples would pass him on the bridge he would look at them and be glad they had a relationship, though sometimes he did wish he was close with someone he didn't think he could have a relationship without drama. He always ended up fighting with people, and that could break up anything he tried to start.
They rounded the corner on their way back from the restaurant and Natsu ran straight into someone, who turned out to be Loke. "Oi watch where you're going. Oh hey Natsu and uh Lucy. I uh am in a bit of a hurry so I'll see you later bye." He practically yelled over his shoulder as he sprinted as fast as his lithe body could in the opposite direction from where he had been going. Lucy appeared to be quite angry and began mumbling something about "orange-haired playboys and their ridiculous lack of manners" when Happy and Natsu decided to head on home for the day, both being extremely exhausted mentally and physically.
As soon as they entered into their bedroom, Happy flew over to his bed and immediately passed out. Natsu just shrugged and waltzed over to his refrigerator only to find it completely bare, much to his belly's disappointment. 'Well I could always just burn those newspapers that have been piling up in the corner for over 3 months' he thought to himself, dejectedly closing the fridge door and flopping down into a chair with a lengthy sigh. He stared out the window for a few moments, pondering whether or not he should go out to buy groceries when someone knocked at his door softly.
Curious as to who would be at his house at 5 in the evening Natsu got up and padded his way over to open the front door.….
