Chapter 13
Sawada Household
A brunet haired man walked beside a black haired girl, his hand clenched the girl's hand securely. The man smiled at the girl as she said worriedly. "Tsuna... are you sure the others don't have to come with you?" A frown grew on her small lips. "What if something happens? If they aren't with you, they can't protect you."
Tsuna raised his free hand and patted the girl's head. "Don't worry about it. This place is safe." he said as he looked forward again.
The girl's gaze followed his, but she didn't spot anything. The gaze the man had gave off that feeling of longing. Longing for something. For someone. It was as if the man beside her was looking for someone that wasn't there at the first place. "Tsuna?"
The Decimo looked at her again with no trace of longing. A warm sweet smile adorned his handsome face. "What's it, Rosette?"
"Ah...No...Nothing." she said, looking down. She didn't know what was on Tsuna's mind, but she felt that there was something bothering him. She didn't know whether it was true or not, but there was something about Tsuna's longing gaze.
After a long walk, Tsuna and Rosette finally reached the Sawada Household. Standing in front of the gate, Tsuna smiled at the sight of his house. His family's house. It had been a year since the last time he came here. The last time he came here was also for his mother's birthday. Tsuna regretted that he couldn't visit his parents as often as he promised years ago before he moved to Italy. He was very busy with all the paperwork and trouble his guardians made. Smiled bitterly at the memories of his guardians, Tsuna shook his head. At least, right now, he was glad that he could meet his parents again. Once again.
Tsuna was about to raise his hand to open the gate, but his hand stopped mid-air. Instead of opening the gate, his hand moved towards the bell and pressed the button, alarming the people in the said house about his visit.
He chuckled as he faintly heard soft running footsteps and the muffled familiar voice of the woman he loves very dearly. "I'm coming!"
As the door opened, Tsuna smiled widely and greeted the woman, who smiled as wide as him at the sight of her one and only son, "Konnichiwa, Okaa-san."
The woman's smile grew wider. She walked towards the gate, opening it, and immediately hugging the man tightly. "Tsuna! I missed you. I almost thought that you wouldn't be able to come today. You usually come before breakfast." Nana stepped back, looking over his son's appearance.
Tsuna looked at his mom's eyes gently. "Gomen ne, Okaa-san. I arrived here in the middle of the night. And I needed a lot of rest. That's why I couldn't come here as early as I used to."
Noticing her son looked thinner and very tired, she sighed worriedly. "You must be pretty busy in Italy." Nana already knew that her son was in mafia. Tsuna and Iemitsu decided to tell her a year before the inheritance. They thought it wasn't good to keep the woman in the dark forever. At first she didn't like the idea of her only son in mafia, but after Reborn, Iemitsu and Tsuna's guardians reassured her about Tsuna's safety, she finally let her son go.
Her eyes caught sight of a little girl standing behind her son. "And who is this, Tsuna?"
Following his mother's gaze, Tsuna answered with a smile on his face. "This is Rosette."
Nana smiled even wider. She walked toward the little girl who grabbed Tsuna's jacket. "You're so cute!" She turned to her son. "Tsuna! Is she your and Kyo-kun's adopted daughter? When did you adopt her?"
Tsuna scratched his cheek sheepishly. "Well...actually...I found her in enemy base weeks ago."
Clearly understanding what Tsuna meant, Nana gasped loudly. "Eh? Is she alright?"
Tsuna nodded, patting the girl's head again.
Nana almost squealed at the affection her son gave the girl. She then bent down a little to the girl's level. Smiling widely, she said, "Hello, Rosette. My name is Nana. I'm Tsuna's mother. It's nice to meet you." Nana stared in confusion when the girl didn't say anything, she just looking at her.
"She doesn't understand Japanese, Okaa-san." Tsuna explained. He squatted down, looking at the girl. "Rosette, this is my Mom, Nana. She said hello and it's nice to meet you." he said in Italian.
Rosette turned to the woman and said with shy smile. "Hello to you too, Mrs. Nana. I'm Rosette. It's nice to meet you too."
This time, Tsuna translated what the girl said to Japanese, letting his mom know what the girl said. The older woman smiled warmly at the girl.
"Tsuna! Is that you?" a loud deep voice suddenly joined in. Tsuna looked up to see his father walking out.
Standing up slowly, Tsuna answered when his father stopped in front of him. "Hai, Otou-san. How are you?"
Iemitsu looked over him with a raised eyebrow. "Why don't you come in? You look tired, son." The blonde haired father stepped back into the house.
"Ah right! Come in, Tsu-kun." Nana said softly, following her husband into the house.
Tsuna sighed as he listened to his parents' plan about their upcoming trip. It wasn't that Tsuna didn't want to hear it. But, he sighed because his parents chose a weird place. "Do you really want to go to Antarctic? I mean, why are you choosing that place?"
Nana smiled at her son. "Well, aren't penguins cute, Tsu-kun? Besides, penguins are one of the animals who won't cheat on their partner. Don't you think they are so romantic?" With that, the husband and wife went all lovey-dovey.
Tsuna sighed again. "If it's penguins you want to see, why not just go to Australia? It's much closer and warmer."
Knowing that his parents were ignoring him, Tsuna turned to his side. At first he thought the situation would be a little awkward with Rosette, but the girl didn't look so. She looked happy. She seemed to enjoy all the conversations they had since an hour ago, even though she needed help from Tsuna and Iemitsu when it came to language.
As he listened to his parents' ranting, Tsuna stared off. He was thinking about nothing when his father suddenly asked, "Where are your guardians, son?"
"They are busy, Otou-san. They couldn't come with us."Tsuna hated to lie to his parents, especially his mother. But he did.
Tsuna thought Iemitsu bought it when he saw his father nodknowingly and said, "Well, judging from how pale and tired you look, all of you must be very busy. But don't forget to rest."
Tsuna nodded.
"Even Kyo-kun can't come?" Nana asked, pouting.
Once again, Tsuna nodded and smiled bitterly at the name. "Even he can't."
"I wanted to see him. It's been a long time since we last met. I thought that you would come with him."
"I'll make sure he comes with me...next time." Tsuna said, though he said the last part uncertainly. He was glad that Nana and Iemitsu didn't seem to notice it. Then a headache suddenly attacked him. Tsuna clutched his head. He felt his energy drain away.
"What's wrong, Tsu-kun? Are you alright?" Nana's voice was filled with worry as she saw her son's pain.
Tsuna looked up at her and said, "Just a little headache. I think I need some rest."
Iemitsu voiced his worry. "Go rest, son. You look much paler than usual."
"But..." Tsuna glanced at the little girl, who looked at him worriedly.
His mother reassured him. "Don't worry. We'll take care of her."
Then the brunet haired man said to Rosette in Italian. "I'll get some rest upstairs. My mother and father will take care of you. Is that okay?"
Receiving a nod from the girl, Tsuna stood up slowly from the couch and walked away from the living room. Slowly, he stepped up the stairs, one by one, still clutching his head as he did so. With every each step he took, the headache grew more intense.
Tsuna panted hard as he lay on his old bed. His energy drained fast as he stepped up the stairs. Feeling his headache worsen and an upcoming nauseous feeling, Tsuna closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. With his still rapid breathing, Tsuna tried to calm down. He took deep breaths, but it didn't help. The nausea was still there and the pain the headache gave escalated.
Tsuna took a small glass bottle filled with white pills from his slack pocket. Shamal gave it to him a week ago. He said that the medicine would help ease the pain and slow down the poison. 'It's worked well so far,' he thought, gulping down two pills. Soon, the nauseous feeling reduced.
Slowly opening his eyes, Tsuna turned to his side, facing his old room. He looked around the room as he remembers the old days. Then, his eyes stopped at his desk. On his desk were 3 small photo frames. The first one was a photo of him with Iemitsu and Nana. The next photo was him and his famiglia. He stood in the middle, looking nervous and panicked. Hayato stood on his right with some dynamites on his hands, un-lit. His emerald eyes glared at Takeshi who stood on Tsuna's left with his right hand on the brunet's shoulder. The tall teenager was grinning widely with his left handraised, making a peace sign. In front of the trio, Lambo, I-pin and Fuuta stood. Just like Takeshi, they also made a peace sign.
Next to Takeshi was Ryohei. The white haired teen raised both of his hand and grinned widely like Takeshi. And then there was Kyoko, Chrome and Haru. They smiled happily, except for Chrome, who looked shy and timid between the two girls. With a mischievous smile, Mukuro stood behind Chrome with Chikusa on his right and then Ken on his left, who looked annoyed at Haru. Beside Hayato were Dino and Romario. Dino grinned with his hands in his jacket pocket and Romario looked as formal as ever. A bit far from Romario was Tetsuya, smiling slightly. And at the far end was Kyoya. His hands crossed in front of his chest. The prefect's gakuran fluttered slightly behind him, an annoyed look plastered on his face. Reborn stood and smirked proudly behind Tsuna, in his adult form. And then Bianchi stood beside Reborn, with goggles to cover her eyes. She was looking at Hayato fondly.
Tsuna smiled as his gaze lingered on the photo. He was really glad that when they took that photo, nothing really bad happened. And then, his eyes moved to the last photo. It was a photo of him and his lover, Kyoya. His smile dropped as loneliness slipped into his mind. 'I really miss him. I want to meet him.'
With that thought, Tsuna took out his cell phone. He decided to send a message to Kyoya. Deep in his heart, Tsuna was glad that Kyoya wasn't there when he talked to his guardian. And he also never told him about his condition. Once, Rosette and Paolo asked him about it. But Tsuna only replied, "I don't want to worry him. Not when he's already busy with his work."
Slowly, Tsuna typed on his phone.
-My mom says that she wants to meet you. I told her that you can't because you're busy.
When will your work finish? I want to meet you.-
Soon after, he received an answer.
-I don't know. I want to meet you too.-
A simple and short answer, which was expected of Kyoya. Tsuna smiled sadly at the reply. Not because of the simplicity and shortness, but the content of it. 'I should have known. I should have known that we couldn't meet each other for a while. But still, I can't stop these feelings of wanting him to be by my side, wanting him to hug me, wanting him to...' Tsuna gripped the sheet tightly as he felt his heart being tied by a tight knot. So tight that he felt like his heart could split into two or worse, burst inside his chest. 'I want him. I want to hear his voice. I want to meet him. I want to hug him. I...'
A cold tears mocked the brunet as it leaked out of his brown eyes and ran down his cold pale skin, falling on the white crumpled sheet.
'Kyoya...I need you. I miss you...I'm lonely.'
Tsuna didn't remember when he fell asleep. But when he woke up and looked outside, the sun had almost set, leaving a trail of light blue, gold, red, orange, and violet in the dark blue sky.
Walking out of his room, he moved towards the bathroom. As he saw his reflection, he felt lighter than before. Opening the faucet, he let the cold water running through his hands and fingers. He bent down a little towards the faucet and splashed some water to his face. Closing the faucet, he took a small towel and wiped the water off. Once again, he looked at his reflection. The water refreshed his face, any trace of tears and sadness had been washed away.
After placing the towel back, Tsuna walked out and treaded down the stairs. He walked towards the kitchen where he could hear three familiar voices. Rosette was helping Nana prepare the dinner while Iemitsu was helping the girls by translating each word and sometimes tasting the food.
Iemitsu was the first to notice him. "Tsuna! How are you? You look much better now. But I didn't expect you sleep through the whole day." He grinned widely as he walked towards his only son and patted him.
"I'm feeling much better." he answered and then looked at the women, who spared him a glad gaze as they saw a smile on Tsuna's face. "Do you need help?"
"Could you set up the table?" Nana said, not looking at Tsuna.
"Of course." Tsuna replied and began to work.
Dinner ran smoothly, with the four of them talking about Iemitsu and Nana's plan for their holiday in the Antarctic, which Tsuna immediately argued with Iemitsu about Nana's safety if the couple really went there.
After dinner, Rosette helped the brunet woman wash the dishes with difficulty while Tsuna talked with Iemitsu.
"How is everything?" Iemitsu asked out of nothing.
Tsuna, taken aback by the question, stared at his father, who looked at the two females in the kitchen with distant eyes. Mentally judging what his father meant to ask, Tsuna slowly answered the question. "Fine."
"What kind of fine? Everything is really fine or fine with a few little problems?"
Following his father, Tsuna stared at the invisible distance, murmuring a soft, "…The latter..."
This time, with his attention was fully on Tsuna, Iemitsu turned to face his son. His narrowed eyes scrutinized every little detail of his son's appearance. "I don't know or want to know what your problems are since I have already put everything about Vongola off my hand." Raising his hand slowly, Iemitsu put his it on Tsuna's head, ruffling the hair gently. "But as a father, I'll listen to all of your ranting. Come see me if you're ready to tell me your problems. I'll help as much as I can." Smiled warmly, the blonde stood up from the sofa he occupied with his son in the living room and proceed to kitchen, offering help to the two girls.
A small smile bloomed on Tsuna's handsome yet tired face as he murmured an empty prayer. "I hope the next time I see you, the problems had been cleared up."
"Why don't you just stay the night here, Tsu-kun? It's been a long time since I last saw you." Nana whined as she and Iemitsu followed their son and guest to the front door.
Tsuna laughed the whining off. Though as much as he wanted to sleep in his old room, the place where he could feel safe and his comfort zone, he didn't want to worry his family about his dying state.
"Come here again tomorrow, son." Iemitsu said.
Slipping his shoes on, Tsuna looked up a bit to nod at Iemitsu. "I will." He walked towards the door and opened it. A breeze slipped through the door, bringing shivers to the four occupants. "The weather is still cold." Tsuna said absentmindedly.
"It will get warmer soon." Nana said to Tsuna. "But, even so, don't forget to wear warmer clothes for now." she added after another breeze blew through her short hair.
"Of course." Tsuna smiled warmly at Nana. And then he hugged his mother tightly. Soon, he hugged his father too. His action confused his parent since he never hugged them like that. "I love you."
"Son/Tsu-kun?"
Pulling back from the hug, Tsuna smiled again, leaving no space for Nana and Iemitsu to ask. After bowing at the couple and bidding them farewell, Tsuna left with Rosette. Nana and Iemitsu watched as their backs disappeared when they made a turn on the junction. Nana suddenly grabbed Iemitsu's hand tightly. "Anata...*"
Iemitsu looked down at his wife. He widened his eyes when he saw a glint of tears well up in her eyes. "What's wrong?" He collected his wife into his warm embrace.
Peeking slightly from Iemitsu's embrace, Nana looked at the road her son walked down while ago, tears steadily rolling down her cheeks. Her trembling hands gripped onto Iemitsu's shirt. "I don't know why...but I feel like keeping Tsu-kun by my side...I don't want him to go."
Not understanding what his wife meant, Iemitsu thought that it was because his wife was missing her son too much. He hugged her slim body and rubbed a soothing circle on her back. After a while, he led her towards the house. "It's getting late. Let's rest."
Nana slowly walked into the warm house. With one last glance outside, she sighed in worry. And then she proceeded to step up the stairs towards her and Iemitsu's room.
Watching his wife, Iemitsu felt worry. Before closing the door, he looked outside as well. He remembered his little conversation with his son a while ago. As a father, he knew that his only son was indeed having problems in Vongola. He couldn't force the boy to tell him about it, since he was an outsider now. But, whatever it was, the problem affected his son greatly.
"Anata?" Nana's voice rang from upstairs.
Shaking his head, Iemitsu closed the door and locked it. Slowly he walked up the stairs to join his wife, who stood in front of their room. With one last sad glance at the front door he murmured sadly.
"Son...Why do I feel like this will be the last time we meet?"
After five minutes of walk from Tsuna's old house, Rosette and Tsuna were greeted by the five assassins, who were waiting for them in a black car.
"Decimo." Lucia walked out of the car, greeting the two softly.
"Let's go." Tsuna said simply as he slipped into the car, followed by Rosette and Lucia.
The ride to the hotel was silent, save for the song which played on the car's mp3. The little girl eyed the man beside her. "Tsuna? Are you okay? You look pale?"
Tsuna pulled back his hand, which was covering his eyes. "I'm fine. Just a little tired." he said tiredly with half lidded eyes before covering his eyes with his hand again.
Silence once again enveloped the car. As time ticked away, they could feel that the car was speeding up.
Taking off his clothes and tiredly changing into his pajamas, Tsuna's mind was swirling. He sat on his bed. Closing his eyes, he took deep breaths until the swirling stopped. Slowly, he opened his eyes again. His brown dull eyes caught sight of his phone. Remembering a certain someone, he took his phone. Slowly and unsurely, he typed something on it and then sent it. Soon, tiredness overwhelmed him. He laid his back on the bed and his eyes closed as he fell into a deep sea of unconsciousness.
-Kyoya, are you still busy? I really want to meet you.-
