Finally! I managed to update and even though this isn't a real chapter I still managed to update. I have a new computer now and I can literally carry it everywhere since it is so small but I can now update more often. So this is another look into the past since I am still working on the new chapter but I hope you all like it.
I do not own Vampire Knight. I simply own my characters and story.
"I don't understand this." a young dark haired pureblood walked around an empty field covered in snow. Her sharp green eyes glanced around her, smelling the wild animals in hibernation underneath all of the snow and hidden deep in the soil in their small burrows.
"What don't you understand Masami?" the dark haired male looked over at the young Masami. His eyes never left her as he watched her look around as though she was waiting for something to occur.
"Rido...the snow smells odd…as though it was tainted by blood." Masami glanced up at the elder pureblood. His mismatched eyes only making her heart beat faster. Whether it had been in fear or something else, Masami knew neither were good. "What happened here?" she asked, finally making an attempt to fully concentrate on why he brought her there. The snow may have smelled like blood but there was none in sight, well from what she could tell.
"That is because there was a battle here before the snow had fallen." Rido explained, crouching down to swipe away some snow to reveal frozen blood splattered grass. "It was between two aristocrats. Well fallen ones actually since no aristocrat would actually fight to kill unless there was something at stake."
"And what exactly was at stake here Rido?" Masami walked towards him but didn't crouch, she had a pretty good view from where she was standing. "Don't tell me it was over a woman. That would be stupid and please don't tell me it was over a man either because I truly don't understand why fighting for another person who is in love with another person is worth it. After all, isn't love a two sided thing?"
Rido raised an eyebrow at the girl who seemed to know much more than she let on and shrugged. "Well in this case it was actually in self-defense. One wanted to kill the other over a trivial matter while the other wanted to solve the situation with no fighting."
"So what exactly is the moral of this story, Rido? I don't see why you dragged me from a perfectly good game of chess with the maid to the cold remains of a fight." Masami interrupted him and nearly rolled her eyes in annoyance, hating how he dragged her out of her home randomly without any explanation only to show her something that didn't interest her in the least.
"Patience." Rido chuckled at her impatience and stood, walking around and kicking snow in his wake to reveal more blood soaked grass. Once he managed to uncover most of it he stopped and looked at her. "Who do you think won Masami? The one with the raging anger or the one with common sense?"
Masami blinked a few times as she looked at the bloodied grass and thought through the question thoroughly, weighing the pros and cons of the situation. "Well…" she paused and looked at Rido. "I would say the enraged fool. For whatever reason they were fighting he was the one with the upper hand."
"What do you mean by upper hand?" Rido moved his head to the side a bit and waited for her answer.
"Well his anger. Anger is blind and you can imagine how anger manipulates one into doing things he wouldn't normally do. In this case the man was angry over whatever it was he was angry about, meaning he no longer cared about being safe or getting hurt." Masami explained, looking back down at the blood.
"So you think that because of the anger the man won?" Rido nodded slowly and went on, "Well what about the other one? Wasn't he the one with common sense at this point in the battle? I thought you favored mind over war Masami." Rido grinned at the pureblood who gave him a slight glare.
"Well I favor mind over everything actually." Masami pointed out the actual truth and began pacing around the uncovered bloodied grass. "I would say in this case that the man with the clear head lost unfortunately. Not to say that the man wasn't strong enough to beat the other man but logic can only get you far enough against brute strength. If you don't fight eventually then you might as well kill yourself for surviving takes more than just being smart about it. You have to have the will to survive using all your abilities and not just one."
Rido clapped his hands, smiling in triumph at his pupil who had finally understood that intelligence alone is not enough. "So you see Masami, the way you were thinking before was incorrect. You believed your brains alone would be the only thing you needed. Even if you didn't notice it before you actually did think yourself untouchable because of how pure your blood is. Well in reality you are as much a target as any other vampire…more of a target actually. People want you, need you but they respect your family enough to stay away." He watched the purebloods face fall and turn into a mask of stone, her eyes wary as though she was ready to bolt.
"Are you threatening me Rido?" Masami held her head high and her fingers twitched in anger.
"No, I am not threatening you Masami." Rido casually crossed his arms over his chest and smirked. "I am just teaching you the basics of how our society runs."
The pureblood girl rolled her eyes and spoke, "By letting me know that I'm not smart enough to survive?"
"No, by letting you know that you can't rely on brains only. Even the stupidest of vampires can understand that, I'm sure you can as well." Rido had begun taunting her.
Masami bared her teeth at him, opening and closing her fists to control her anger. "At least I'm not stupid enough to want what I can't ever have." She growled and took two steps back when Rido took one towards her.
Rido took a step towards Masami who had her fangs bared at him and who now had eyes a bright red. He knew his own were beginning to turn like hers, both purebloods now angered. "A girl like you should watch her tongue."
"A man like you shouldn't be threatening a girl like me. Especially one who will one day be the queen of you all." Masami heard her mother calling to her and was distracted as she looked around in confusion as to where the voice was coming from as it was an echo that bounced off the trees.
Rido snapped and lunged for the girl, not meaning to hurt her but scare her. His anger took the best of him and even though she was no longer his, he still had feelings for the pureblood but in this case the way she made it clear that he would be nothing but another pawn to her was unsettling. He wasn't the type of vampire to let another control him.
Masami anticipated the attack after their quarrel and casually stepped to the side, laughing as she watched him stumble and fall into the snow. "I think I'm testing your patience, aren't I Rido? Well I guess I proved you wrong when saying that brains isn't the only thing needed in a fight. Truly, as old as you are you could have at least attacked me when my back was to you." She didn't move towards him and ignored her mother who had now stopped calling for her.
"You amuse me." Rido muttered and dusted the snow off from him once he was up. "You are right in this case but if I truly meant to hurt you then you would be dead and you know it."
"I know." Masami crossed her arms and looked back at the blood. "So the moral of the story is to use all your abilities and to not rely on one, right?"
Rido shook his head and stood beside her now. "Not entirely. The moral of this story is to never trust those close to you even though you think you know them. The aristocrats here were both brothers and both died. They were fighting over a woman actually, I lied to you about that part but I didn't want you thinking this lesson was about boys being stupid. This lesson is meant to teach you that trust doesn't exist."
"But why this lesson…" Masami was clearly confused now and hated it. "I trust you."
"No, you don't and I hope you don't ever get that desperate to do so." Rido spoke, his eyes staring out at the snow covered trees before shaking his head and laughing.
Masami opened her mouth to speak but decided against it and started walking home. "You old frog." She called over her shoulder once she saw he was following her back home.
Rido laughed at her comment but said nothing, the stench of blood still filled his nostrils even as they were amongst the tress and far away from the bloody battle field. His lies were growing by the day but he wouldn't ever admit it. He was desperate but even after he killed the two aristocrats who knew about his secrets he knew he would have to kill more. The blood on the grass was of two brothers, yes, but they were fighting because the pureblood Kuran had manipulated them to do so and in the end both died, leaving no trace of any of Rido's secrets in their wake. Rido Kuran would get what he wanted even if he had to wipe out the whole vampire race from the inside out.
So there it is and I hope you all enjoy it since it took me two hours to write after I had to rewrite twice xD Thank you so much for reading and please a review and such. Well hopefully I get the next chapter done and up soon.
