"It should be around here somewhere..." Feliciano said determinedly as he pulled Ludwig along by his pale, muscular hands. The little Italian was anxiously scanning name after name upon tombstone after tombstone looking for something to catch his eyes.
"Feli, what are we looking for again?" the stoic German asked with a sigh. While the two of them were walking in the moonlit cemetery, Feliciano suddenly popped up with excitement, rambling on about having to find "his" tombstone.
"We have to find it... He'll be so happy to see me again. Do you think he'll remember me, Ludwig?" the little Italian asked, completely ignoring Ludwig's question.
"Who will remember you? Feli, you aren't making any sense," the German said confusedly. Feliciano just kept mumbling excited incoherencies. His German partner merely sighed. There was no point in trying to get information out of him when he was in this state. Ludwig was thinking of how his friend was always so happy and carefree when Feliciano suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Ciao... Sorry I haven't come to visit you lately," the Italian said sorrowfully to the tomb at his feet. He knelt down, taking Ludwig with him by their conjoined hands. The name engraved on the tombstone was too faded to be legible.
"Feli, what is...?" the German began as he knelt on the ground, but stopped when his partner continued to speak.
"I wanted to ask your permission on something that I've been meaning to ask you for a while... There's a person I feel is really special to me and I want to know if I can finally let you go..." the Italian asked the headstone as if it were able to reply. He closed his eyes in a silent prayer, and the wind whispered sweet nothings to the auburn male, solacing his worried expression into one of serene understanding. Ludwig could only watch in silent awe as Feliciano shed a silent tear and let a sorrowful smile grace his olive features. Feliciano turned his gaze to his German companion and slowly stood, Ludwig following suit.
Ludwig wiped the tear from his dearest friend's cheek gently, and Feli could only stare at the ground.
"Feli, are you... okay?" he managed just above a whisper. The Italian tightened his grip on Ludwig's pale hand, making the whites of his knuckles turn an even ghostlier white, and flung himself into the man's broad chest nodding silent confirmations that told him Sí, sí, I'm fine Luddy, just don't let go. Ludwig held the Italian close to him with his free arm, knowing that Feliciano just needed comfort right now. "I'm right here, Feli. You don't have to tell me what's bothering you, but I highly recommend it. Talking your problems out with someone is usually the proper course of action to take when..." his short ramble trailed off once he felt a light kiss being placed accordingly on each of his cheeks.
"I'm fine Luddy. Thank you," he replied cheerily, that same lax smile plastered to his face. "Let's keep going, we don't want to fall behind everyone else!" And so the pair did, but after taking two mere steps Feliciano tripped on a root and stumbled out of his companion's grip. Ludwig released the Italian's hand in favor of catching him around the waist by instinct. The blonde pulled him by the waist and to the broad expanse of his chest.
"Ve, thanks Luddy~" he chirped pleasantly. Ludwig nodded in clarification, and released his partner.
"Be careful, for goodness's sake..."
"I don't have to be careful if I have you here to protect me!" came the countered reply. The German nodded his agreement as the pair kept walking on to the center of the cemetery.
