Hey guys! Happy Valentines Day/or Singles Awareness Day! Here's the next chapter. I was originally going to post this chapter on Monday but because it's Valentines Day I decided to go ahead and post it early.
Thank you guys SO MUCH for your reviews. I loved them all, both short and long. The feedback I got after Cassandra and Kevin's blow out turned out much better than I honestly expected. Tells me I'm doing something right lol
To Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss Guest (I know there were two of you but I'm referring to the one who asked "Where is the rest, I feel like there should be more" Well to answer your question I meant for the chapter to end abruptly. Could it be more polished? Probably, but my intention was to stop just before shit hit the fan so the chips can fall and settle before Kevin can take inventory of it all. I hope that was what got across and people aren't confused. If you are let me know and I'll explain.
I have to give a big and special thanks to my best friend in the world Jessica who helped me shape the last chapter and several of the ones to come. She's a lovely poet with great literary sense. Her tumblr is unsaidbutwritten if you want to check her out.
So, enough of my jibber jabber, onto the story!
Enjoy!
This time around when they went to Club VIPER there was no waitress to lead the way.
There was no VIP wrist band that could get them right through the door but there was plenty of waiting. Lots and lots of waiting.
Like the others Edd and Kevin were forced to stand outside, caught between a velvet rope and the brick wall of the building while waiting to be let in. The club was in a frenzy. A famous pop singer was scheduled to perform tonight and the place was packed, practically bursting at the seams. Edd didn't seem mind all that. He was just as happy to stand beside Kevin and engage him in some friendly banter, hopping up and down in a bid to fight off the chill of winter as he would have been inside. Though, in retrospect, it was much too cold for any sane human to be ankle deep in the snow as they were. However they were determined to get in, if not for the music and booze then for their own good.
They needed a break a break from life.
Edd was growing sick of his dead end perusals of work, each ending in poorly constructed letters of rejection, while Kevin just wanted a night out. He desperately needed one, where didn't have to think about school, or work, or curly blond waitresses- especially curly blond waitresses- the very kind who had an annoying talent for throwing a man for a loop.
If anything Kevin needed a beer, a tall frosty logger with the power to erase Cassandra from his mind. The edge she had left him in had yet to dissolve and his stomach had been tied in knots for three solid days. He hadn't even bothered reaching out to her, leaving his ring tone for her on silent. Judging by his lack of missed calls, he doubted she even bothered to think of him. It was safe to say her confession hadn't been what he was expecting, and now he wouldn't have minded if it were the last thing on his mind. In fact, Kevin actively pushed it to his further most thoughts and focused on the only anchor of reason he had- Edd.
"You're so tiny." Kevin said, plucking Edd's arm up and comparing it to his own. "A game of uncle could break you."
Edd huffed, taking back his arm. "You make a poor comparison Mr. Barr. Your jacket is on."
"Like hell I'm taking it off! Do you know how cold it is? Fuck my balls are so frozen I wouldn't be surprised if they were stuck to my leg."
"T. M.I.!" Edd barked, slapping Kevin's arm. "Have some tact will you? We're out in public."
Kevin caught the tinge of pink staining the dork's cheeks and laughed. "Oh please. If I wasn't talking about my balls in public I'd be the weird one out here. Right?" He said, raising his voice to the people behind him.
Somewhere from behind a man shouted back and Edd shook his head, rubbing the bridge of his nose in embarrassment.
"You are simply impossible Kevin Barr. Simply and hopelessly impossible."
The ledge of Kevin's glasses falling down the bridge of his nose and he winked. "But you love me."
Edd's face darkened and he smacked Kevin once more but much more softly, his lips cracking into a grin. "Hopeless I say!"
The look on Edd's face was much too funny to ignore. Kevin burst into laughter. Eventually Edd started to giggle and in no time at all the two were lost in a fit of laughter, nearly forgetting where they were and why. Just spending time together seemed to really do it for them. It was a nice feeling to be had and neither of them wanted the feeling to fade.
Edd plucked Kevin's glasses off his face and inspected them closely, his warped reflection staring back at him curiously.
"And why do you insist on wearing these things at night? Surely they would serve you no purpose now."
Kevin snatched back at his glasses, turning them over in his hands, before an idea took hold of him and he tucked them onto Eddward's face. The sockhead squeaked, his fingers rising up to touch the arms of the expensive frame. Kevin never let others wear his glasses. Hold them yes, but wear then no. It was practically sacrilege!
"Don't touch the lenses." Kevin advised. "They're sensitive but their perfect for being outdoors."
Edd blinked a few times as his eye sight adjusted. He looked up to Kevin and the red-head tried not to let himself laugh. They were big on Edd's face but he'd be lying if he said the kid didn't look adorable in them. It was like they were made to sit on his face and hide his pretty blues from the world. Kevin felt a smile tug at his lips and instead of taking them back he left them where they were. He wasn't sure why it felt right but he never ignored a gut feeling before.
He'd never admit it but Kevin was extremely grateful to Edd. When faced with Cassandra's outburst Edd did not pester him with inquires, certainly not like Nat would have. It had been written on his face, though, when Cassandra had shoved him aside. Curiosity and concern had blazed bright in his blue depths; but, instead of unleashing the unholy torrent of emotions pent up inside on the sweet boy before him, Kevin had merely shaken his head. He didn't even have it in him to promise an explanation for later, making his own escape to his room and leaving the sockhead standing alone and confused in the hall. Since that day he hadn't uttered a single word on the matter and Edd had mercifully left it at that. There were times he was sure Edd would ask. The sparkle in his eye was a big give away, but he never did; opting to change the subject instead and leaving Kevin to brood in private.
A gust of wind flew by them and instinctively the two came together, pressing their coated bodies as tightly together as possible to ward off the cold. Neither Edd nor Kevin bothered to look at each other. Kevin however caught sight of the dork out of the corner of his eye and he smiled. Damn he looked cute in his glasses. Was it wrong of him to think the beanie totally pulled off the look too? He didn't think so and leaned forward to say as such.
Edd looked at him then, his mouth falling open and all Kevin could think of was kissing him. That sultry mouth of his was just begging for Kevin's to delve his tongue into that sweet moist cavern. He remembered Edd's flavor and the taste of his lips caught between his teeth, and suddenly he wanted more. He couldn't remember the last time they shared a kiss and like an addict Kevin was in need of a fix.
Restraining himself was hard considering Edd was giving him a look Kevin couldn't see. He wanted desperately to take those glasses off and meet his gaze but the secrecy of it all made it all the more exciting. If Kevin didn't have an expert control, his body would have sprung to life and getting caught with a stiff one by the bouncer would have been disastrous. Thankfully his parts were tamed before they could get ahead of themselves and he greeted the bouncer with a grin.
"How many?" The bouncer asked.
"Two." Kevin said, crossing his fingers hopefully behind his back.
The bouncer was a man maybe a year or two older then Kevin with caramel colored skin and eyes, the color of wood. His arms were crossed against his chest, his sharp chin jutting forward as he judged the boys before him. His hair was cut incredibly short as if he didn't have time to have it cut and simply buzzed it right off. His nose was a tad crooked but it wasn't a feature that could easily be noticed. The man's chest was well defined beneath the thin tight fabric of his work shirt, his waist small but his legs looking every bit as defined as his arms and chest.
Oddly enough Edd was caught off guard by the familiarity of the man, the stern look in his eyes immediately grabbing his attention.
The man looked Edd up and down, his scrutinizing expression lightening but only by a fraction. The man's arms lost some of their tension and he let them drop to his sides.
"Are you-" The man shook his head, lifting his hand to his head set.
Hardly moved from being interrupted he whispered into the mouth piece and unhooked the velvet rope in front of Edd.
The sockhead raised a questioning brow but the man simply shook his head. "Forget it bro."
Kevin grinned and draped an arm around Eddward's shoulders, throwing a thumb up over his shoulder to the bouncer. "Thanks man!"
The bouncer nodded his head, clipping the velvet rope back into place and ignoring the moans of the growing crowd by casting them a stern look.
Fixing his arms back across his chest the man thought back to the skinny male he just let inside. Something about his face had been familiar. Really familiar.
The red-head was just another faceless patron, but him? No there was something more about that toothpick. Something so strong it had struck actually a chord with him. He couldn't tell if it had something to do in the lazy way he stood or the odd way he looked at him through those god awful glasses, but something about him had made him pause.
Speaking of which, who in the hell wears sun glasses at night?
He shook his head. Probably just some crazy kid he thought he recognized. In his line of work he wouldn't be surprised if it was just some punk that caused a drunken scene a few nights back. Yeah, that had to be it.
Ignoring the uncomfortable rumble in his stomach the man went back to work, putting people in their place and escorting the unruly ones to the curb. Of course it did little to settle his stomach but there wasn't much he could do now that the boy was out of his sight. He figured he'd see the boy again when he and his friend decided they had had enough of the party scene but he conceded that it wouldn't be likely. For now he put the boy out from his mind and went back to being what he did best, bouncing.
Kevin led Edd inside and took him upstairs. They couldn't go up to the third level where the VIP sections were but the second level was still a bit tamer from the dance floor. Kevin figured after a few drinks they would get their party on and he was more than eager to down a frosty one. Or two for that matter.
Edd ordered their drinks and handed the bartender the money Kevin had given to him. To make up for the outrageous price the tickets had been that evening they were given a complimentary plate of nachos. They weren't the best looking nachos Edd had seen but they would have to do for now.
Edd returned with Kevin's beer and sat his lemon soda on the round table they had claimed before anyone else has a chance to steal it. The club was far more packed than he originally anticipated. Getting through the sea of bodies to their table had been an adventure all on its own and Edd had to swerve from side to side to keep from accidently dumping his drink on the floor. Thankfully he made it to their table with little trouble and plopped himself down in his seat.
"Oh my. I'm starting to think this wasn't such a good idea." He said, raking his fingers through the ends of his hair.
Kevin snorted, sipping gratefully at his beverage. The refreshment gave his throat a cool and soothing impression, sending chills in the form of goosebumps throughout his body.
"Nah man. We haven't even begun to have fun."
The glasses on Edd's face tipped forward and revealed the unamused expression written in his eyes.
"Dude there's some pop idol chick playing live tonight. We're freakin' lucky for even getting in."
Edd shrugged, a disingenuous smile tugging at his lips. "I suppose you are right. The night is young after all."
Kevin smacked his lips, shaking the sense of tension rising inside of him by winking to the boy across from him. He raised his glass in the process, a sighing heavily through his nose.
"To a night out on the town."
In response Edd raised his glass, not quite meeting Kevin's gaze but forcing his smile to widen.
"With good friends."
Keivn and Edd sipped at their drinks simultaneously. Kevin slapped his half empty glass on the table and howled, making the sockhead jump and nearly spill his drink for a second time that night.
"Damn that was gooder than hell."
Edd's lip twitched, his mouth screwing together in playful disapproval. "Better, Kevin. The correct word is better."
The red-head frowned and stuck out his tongue. "Whatever dork."
Edd smirked, sitting straighter in his seat as he sipped proudly as his glass of lemon soda. Phrase correcting, it seemed, was just one of those things he was never going to grow out of. He remembered how badly it drove Eddy nuts when he went around correcting nearly every broken sentence he said but Kevin somehow didn't make him feel bad for his habit. If anything Kevin made him feel good, superior really. It gave him a sense of confidence and power he wasn't used to having but he found he could get used to it. He liked this feeling and throughout the night he rode on that high, his smile never once leaving his face.
In time the music grew faster and the people grew louder. Abandoning their table Kevin and Edd took to the dance floor, squeezing through the sea of bodies to the center where most of the fun being had. Music poured the speakers and made the walls shake. The smell of alcohol and sweat permeated throughout the room but it wasn't a scent that Edd couldn't handle. If anything it fueled the flame of excitement that coursed through his system and before he knew just what he was doing the dork had taken to letting the music flow through him.
Like waves chasing on a beach he felt the rhythm take over and nothing else in the world seemed to matter. His focus tumbled from thoughts of himself to the red-head across from him; those impressive sun kissed arms reaching out to hold him close and that rock solid chest providing just the slightest bit of balance as he drew closer. Grind for grind their hips met, thighs brushing and knees knocking in the process. Edd threw his arms around Kevin's neck and Kevin obliged him by wrapping his arms around the dork's waist, latching them together in an intimate embrace.
From behind the glasses Edd's eyes beamed and Kevin pecked let his lips fall into heated kisses across his forehead. He tasted sweat but he didn't mind. If anything it made him think of what other body parts on the sockhead that could possibly be sweating and in dire need of shedding those clothes of his. Maybe his chest, Kevin thought sultrily or the beautiful expansion of his narrow back.
What Kevin wouldn't do to leave a trail of hickies there!
He could practically taste the kid's skin on the flat of his tongue. Oh there were other parts of the dork he'd love to put in his mouth but for now he'd settle with the meat of his neck.
Edd cried out softly, his arms tightening around Kevin's neck. A hot and heavy gasped washed over the side of Kevin's face the red-head couldn't stop the moan that escaped him. Edd's head lolled back into the hand that cupped the back of his neck, his body rolling up and down in furious need. Kevin smirked against Edd's cheek and stroked it with his tongue. Mmm. So good.
Colors and sounds and shapes swept around them in a tornado of sensation. Every vibration and feeling that could be felt rushed at them, carrying them along the current that was their elation. It hit them hard like that first taste of Dilaudid as it surged through one's blood stream, nearly knocking them flat on their faces until Kevin pulled Edd close. Just a number of centimeters separated their faces, their lips on the verge of caressing. Edd pressed his cheek to Kevin's and brought their bodies even closer. He couldn't stand life without that heat. He felt as if he'd freeze without it.
Kevin grinned into Edd's ear and suckled softly on its lobe.
"God you make me want to do things to you."
Edd's face was already flushed in crimson. "What s-sort of things?"
Kevin hummed and Edd shivered in response. The lights above flashed, washing their faces in hues of red, blue, and green.
"Like this." His hands came up to the sockhead's shoulders and curved their way down either side of the boy's spine. "And this." His hands cupped Edd's rounded hips, pushing past the flaps of Edd's coat and grasping them.
"Oh and this."
Kevin's hands grabbed a hold of Edd's bottom and the sockhead jumped, hips grinding back and forth feverishly.
Edd stepped away just long enough to turn around and leaned back into the heat of the body next to him. Kevin's roaming hands continued their adulterated escapade, smoothing out the nonexistent wrinkles of his lover's shirt. He was wearing that adorable get up Nat had given to him; the heels, the pants, the whole nine yards. The black shirt Kevin had confiscated was back in Edd's possession, wrapped snuggly around his torso and revealing that delicious expansion of skin known as his shoulder. This time Edd wore is hat and the shadows from the hem hid his eyes just long enough for the light to hit them just right, sparkling like sapphires beneath a jeweler's light.
Then, to Kevin's surprise, Edd pulled away. Kevin couldn't presently form words so simply watched, everything he wanted and needed to say conveyed through his eyes.
Edd danced alone for a moment, extending his arms and really losing himself to the music. Left to right he swayed and never once did he take his eyes off Kevin. It was like Eddward Vincent was a new man; graceful and poetic but confident his every stride. The people around him scooted away to give the dork room but for all they knew he was just as hip as the rest of them. He was a dancing fool, taking Kevin's hands and placing them exactly where he wanted them. The motorcyclist could barely keep up and soon enough Edd was out of his hands once more. The crowd around them cheered and Edd's face lit with a smile that could out shine the sun itself.
"Oh my god he's so cute!" A girl from the side had shouted. "Look over here cutie!"
As if on cue Edd turned, his step never faltering even as the random girl whipped out her cellphone and began recording him. If anything Edd danced as though he were teasing the camera, spinning on the balls of his feet and caressing his hands over his hips, chest and through the visible strands of his inky black hair. Off to the side a fairly handsome gentleman had looked his way, casting meaningful glances of approval and curiosity. Edd caught the man's eye and his neck burned form the blush that crept up to his face.
Now this was something new. The attention he was now receiving made Edd feel like he was on top of the world. He felt desired, a feeling he wasn't accustomed to. A fire surged through him, the flames of his amusement licking the sweet and tantalizing flavor that was the moment.
The gentleman waved to him from his place just outside the circle, nodding his head towards the bar.
An invitation.
