"Rebeccah?" at Sunday night, right before we´d go dancing I had at last pulled out the make- up- toiletry- bag Katheryn had given me from my bag.
"Yep."
"I´ve got some make- up. I wondered if you could… well…"
"Of course I can, just let me finish my make- up first."
"All right," I put the make- up on the table and started searching my bag for the cardigan I would be wearing over the dress. I had been wearing it at the spring- prom at school, over the dress, everything to cover the terrible scars on my arms and back. I couldn´t find it, so I thought back, where had I put it.
I had made a list of what I would bring- then I had laid it all on my bed, on the floor and on the desk. I had packed the clothes in the big part of the trunk- including the cardigan, then- the same day as we left I needed a T- shirt from the trunk. So I had pulled up something to reach it… what was it I pulled up- oh no! I had pulled up the cardigan and put it on my bed to reach the T- shirt.
"Oh no" I moaned and sat down on the bunk.
"Lex? I can do your make up now." Rebeccah came into the room from the bathroom.
"You won´t need to. I´m not going." I said.
"What´s wrong?" Rebeccah sat down next to me.
"I forgot the cardigan I´m supposed to wear over the dress. Without it, there´s just no way I´m going to the dance."
"Why not?"
"Because I´ve got scars all over my back and arms, I don´t like them being visible. "
"Is this why you wear long- sleeved shirts even when it´s hot outside?" I nodded.
"Yeah it is. I just... I don´t like them being showing."
"But Lex, no one´s gonna notice them!"
"Yes they are, and then… if some little kid asks me what happened, then what am I supposed to say, that I was abused?"
"Why not just say, that someone was hurting you. It´s the truth, but it doesn´t reveal too much."
"Don´t you understand? I don´t want them showing, I forgot the cardigan and I couldn´t show all my scars with going to the dance in just the dress."
"Maybe if we could… no, the tax- frees are closed for the night… Lex, say it like this. You come to the dance with us others, and if someone´s looking, which no one will. Then you can go back here." I bit my lip and thought for a second.
"Okay."
"Can I put make- up on you then?"
"Sure." I reached her the toiletry bag, she took something I barely knew what it was and pulled out the brush. For I don't know how long I sat there and let Rebeccah do my makeup, until she had put on lipstick, and put everything back in the bag.
"So, go look yourself in the mirror." I stood up and walked into the bathroom.
"Oh my." I exclaimed. "Oh my good lord."
"You like it?"
"I… I love it… oh thank you so much Rebeccah. I couldn´t thank you enough,"
"My pleasure, but we´re running a bit late, we should change and just go up to the others." I had laid the dress I had as a birthday present from Kurt, Blaine and Finn on the bed, laid the hairband and the shoes next to the dress, and in a little box I had put the necklace that Tyler had given me, and a bracelet I had bought a while ago. The wristband was made of fabric and was dark red, and attached to it, it had sparkly letters that created the word "Hope." I pulled the dress over my head and asked Rebeccah to pull up the zipper, then I pulled the shoes on, tied the hairband and put the jewelry on.
"So, look nice?" I asked Rebeccah and showed her.
"Look nice, look very beautiful." She said with a faked accent. I chuckled and opened the door. Then I and Rebeccah walked together to the hall slash dining room where the dance was held.
Mum, dad and the boys already stood right down the hallway by the door to the dining room. Tyler stood turned towards the hallway, and when he spotted me- he smiled big. He was looking better than ever in jeans, black shoes, a light- blue checkered shirt and a tie in light blue, dark blue and grey, as he came walking towards me.
"Alexandriella," he said. "May I take you to this dance with me?" Tyler bowed and stretched his arm forward.
"Oh, Prince Tyler." I said in a really screechy voice. "I would love to go to the dance with you." I heard the others laugh in the background. Then I took Tyler´s hand. Together we walked into the dining room. Tyler had decided to be a gentleman, and pulled out the chair for me. We ate, and then we walked into the bar, where there was a dancing floor and music playing loudly. I and Tyler danced together for… well who cares how long? After a while, we decided to get something to drink, so I waited by a table while Tyler got colas.
"Hello beautiful." A drunk man- about dad´s age stumbles his way to my table. "What is a b- "hick" beautiful girl like you doing "hick" here?"
"Get away from me." I told the man.
"Why "hick" be so rude?"
"I said get away." When the man reached out a hand to touch me, I lifted my arm, and hit his hand.
"Oh, got some guts sweetie."
"Don´t call me that."
"Oh… you know "hick." You´ve g- "hick" got scars on your arm! What happened to you?" Out of nowhere dad turned up and pressed up the man to a wall.
"Don´t you dare to ever talk to my daughter again!" He fizzled. "DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" That´s the last thing I heard, as I- blinded by tears stumbled out on deck.
Rebeccah POV
I saw Lex half- run out the door to the deck, obviously crying.
"Wait here." I told Finn and walked after Lex- who I found out on deck leaning against the rails.
"Hey." I walked over to her. "What´s going on?" Tyler came out after me and laid his arm around Lex´ shoulders.
"This man- he was drunk, and he came over to me, talked to me and then he saw the scars."
"That´s not so bad is it?" I asked, in an attempt to comfort.
"I told you! I don´t want anyone seeing the scars. If they see them, maybe they´ll understand... and if they understand... what would they think?" Tyler let go off his girlfriend, and rolled up his sleeves.
"Lex?" Tyler began. "Look at this." He held out his arms, the inside of his forearms were covered in scars- I assumed from cutting himself.
"What are you trying to say?"
"Lex. Before I showed you these now, did you notice them?"
"No."
"If you had noticed them, would you have understood where they came from?"
"Probably."
"Would it make you think I´m a bad person, or something else like that?"
"No."
"Would you think that anyone does?"
"Probably"
"And what would you say about that?"
"It´s their problem! They´ve got nothing to do with you, how the scars got there, or why."
"So… what do you think about the people who sees your scars, and thinks something about them?"
"I guess that…. Oh, see your point… it´s their problem, they´ve got nothing to do with it."
"So, what are you going to do now?"
Lex POV
I smiled, as I was trying to come up with a good answer for Tyler´s question at last I smiled and looked to him.
"First talk a few words with dad. Then I need to wash out this make- up. Then you and I are gonna dance this night away."
"That´s my girl." Tyler laid his arm around my shoulders. I stroke away a few tears from my cheeks.
"Gosh, first time I wear make- up and I completely ruin it with crying over a stupid drunk."
"Don´t worry about it." Rebeccah said. "It happens to everyone, and tomorrow I´ll teach you how you put it on yourself."
"Dad?" Burt and Carole came walking out from the dancing hall.
"You´re okay?"
"Yep I´m fine. Can I speak with dad alone for a minute?" The others nodded and walked inside.
"Was it just me?" I started. "Or did you actually call me- your daughter in there."
"I did, why wouldn´t I?"
"Can find a few reasons… ehrm, the adoption´s not through yet, I don´t share last name with you yet…"
"When will you understand?" Dad interrupted me. "It´s not about the legal part, it´s not about the last name or the DNA. What matters is the fact that I and Carole love you very much. We love you just as if you were our own. That´s what makes us family." I hugged dad.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you too." He answered me. "All the way to the moon and back again, don´t you ever doubt that."
"I´m not."
Before we had actually finished dancing that night, and finished moving rooms because we were moving into four different couple- rooms, the clock had reached three in the morning. At last, I and Tyler snuggled close in our own room.
There were sparkles flying also later that night, but what happened, it stays between me and Tyler.
So, I don´t think I actually need to write out what actually happened that night. Don´t like, don´t read.
I think there´s two or three more chapters left on this now.
