Chapter 10
The Mobile Suit Corps

Los Andares Military Police Jail, building 402
Interrogation Room 3

Sergeant Anthony Hayfield had been sitting quietly inside of his cell for three days. On the third day he was moved to interrogation room 3. He was quietly awaiting the arrival of whomever was going to talk to him. He hadn't managed to destroy evidence before the MPs got to him. But he was confident that he could get out of a conviction because had done it before, because he was educated in law before he was drafted into the UED. But he was not ready for what I had for him. Colonel Powers, the Los Andares MP Commander, General Salinas, Captain Luther, myself and two MP Staff Sergeants walked into the interrogation room. Hayfield was seated toward the door. Four chairs were setup for myself, Salinas, Luther and Powers. I could tell right away that this guy was cocky. I read his file before meeting him, how the heck I let him into my unit, I will never know. Maybe I wanted to give him a chance. I placed him with Weapons team two. I regretted that decision. The four of us sat down and we all looked at Hayfield. I was the first one to speak, "Got anything you want say hayfield?" "What am I being charged with, Sir?" "Before we go into that…" I opened his file. "Your file is a joke, Hayfield. Twelve accusations of UCMJ article 88, three accusations of article 89, and four charges of article 112a, one conviction sentence suspended due a technicality. How you managed to get the rank of sergeant is beyond me. You are once again being charged with article 112a." hayfield replied, "How do you know that the stuff you found was mine, Colonel? "I'm not finished…you are also being charged with article 91, article 95 and article 107. The Military courts Judge that we spoke to is fed up with you. You are not authorized for trial nor counsel." Hayfield expression went from cockiness to shock and panic. "The judge gave us an automatic sentence for you. Sergeant Anthony Hayfield, effective immediately, you are Dishonorably Discharged from the UED Military, stripped of your rank, and taking into account all of your article 88 and 89 charges, and with putting the lives of numerous service in jeopardy, hereby sentenced to fifty years at the UED Corrections Facility at the Leavenworth Penal Colony on Heccatencires." I closed his file and stood up. General Salinas said, "Sergeants, Get this Scumbag out of our sight and on the next transport to Heccatencires." "YES SIR." "YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME, I HAVE RIGHTS, I WANT A FAIR TRIAL." I shouted, "YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO DOES NOT DESERVE A FAIR TRIAL. GET HIM OUT OF HERE." The sergeants restrained Hayfield and took him away, with him yelling expletives the whole way. While walking out of the building, General Salinas said, "You know, we were lucky to have Judge Sterling. He is ruthless and unforgiving when it comes to things like this." "Yeah. Well that's one bad apple I don't have to deal with, and the rest of the men are getting medical treatment. Hopefully they'll be okay." "Bog is an extremely addictive drug. It's almost three times more potent than the cocaine of your time and lasts twice as long." I shook my head and continued toward my vehicle to go back to the 1st R&D. Before I got in, General Salinas said, "Oh by the way…the plans for your three mobile suit types and the Pegasus were approved." I looked at him with surprise. "However, they want the RX-02 to be lightened, and they want the RX-03 and RX-04 to have a more versatile weapons system, something along the lines of interchangeable weapons. And… they would like the Pegasus to be ready for testing in three months." I thought for a moment, and then said, "Okay sir, and thank you." I saluted him and was about to get in my vehicle when he said, "Hey Tom, would you like to join Madison and me for lunch?" "…Sure, sir. Where are you going?" "We were going to Mario's out by the marina in town. They got some good pasta." "All right, I can meet you there in about an hour, okay." "Sounds good." I got in my vehicle and drove back to my office to grab some files.
Mario's Restaurant
Manaus, South America
Since Los Andares was located just northwest of Manaus along the Amazon, it naturally served is an easy getaway for the military personal of Los Andares. Mario's was apparently very popular with the bases commissioned officers. I apparently had just arrived after the Salinas's because when I walked in I could see that they were just sitting down at the table. There was another person with Andrew and Madison, a civilian female. I went up to the table and said, "Have you guys been waiting long?" Andrew responded, "Hey Tom, no we just got here. I don't think you've meet my wife. Anna, this is Thomas Eugene Radford, he's the Commander of the 1st R&D." Anna Salinas was a woman of late thirties, very fair. "Hello Tom." She held out her hand and I took it and said, "It is nice to meet you, Mrs. Salinas." "Please, Anna is fine." Andrew continued, "Anna is actually the commanding officer of the Los Andares Supply Group, she too holds the rank of Brigadier General." "Two Generals and a Lieutenant Colonel. Quite the Military family, Sir." I took my seat next to Madison. It was subtle, but I could tell she was kind of nervous. I asked her, "something wrong, Madison?" she was also a little jumpy. "AH…uh…no…no, nothing's wrong." That was followed by a slight giggle from Anna. Now I was confused, but decided to let it go. "So what's good here, Andrew?" "Their Mostacholli is excellent." "Okay." We ordered our food and drinks. After ordering I asked, "Andrew, Is it possible to setup a meeting between you, myself, Madison, Admiral Cartwright and General Hayward, and General Gillespie?" "What for?" "Because I would like to recruit some new recruits to be MS pilots. Obviously if we are going to make the MS Project work, I'm going to need some test pilots. Also if the Mobile Suits go into full production, we are going to need a new MOS for MS pilots, Sir." "well you don't need to set up a meeting with them, I was going to tell you later, but the UED president himself has already authorized the formation of 4 MS Brigades, pending satisfactory testing of the three new units." "Really?" "Yes really. However the President has decided that everything pertaining to the mobile suits will fall under the control of UED Marine Corps. They will be called Mobile Suit Marines. Also the president has authorized you to use whatever materials you need in order to accomplish this. Also because of its inherent value, the President has ordered Commander Usarians Mining teams to send you all of the Gundanium to Earth for use. You are authorized to use it in whatever way you see fit." I was absolutely floored by this. "I guess the UED president has a lot of confidence in the mobile suit." "He does. He see the mobile suit as the next generation of deterrence weapons. Deterring anyone from launching all-out war against the UED." "Well the mobile suits could do that. One mobile suit provides the firepower equal to that of an entire Wraith Squadron. But wait a minute, I'm not a marine, who will command the mobile suit units?" "You and Madison." We both look at Andrew with shocked faces. "Commandant Gillespie has received my request to have you both transferred into the UED Marine Corps, and it was accepted. You both will receive the official notice in one week. I have requested that the 1st R&D fall under the Mobile Suit Corps jurisdiction. This way you can still create and design new units while being in command of the Mobile Suit Corps." "Well thank you Andrew. You are way too kind. I am sure we will put the mobile suit corps to good use." And with our food came and we sat the rest of the time in quiet. After we ate, Anna asked me, "Tom, Could I see you on the patio please?" I was a little confused, but I complied. We went to the edge of the patio and she turned around and asked, "Tom, do remember at the beginning of the conversation when Madison seem very nervous?" "Yes, ma'am." "Well, I'm giving you a little hint, and I've already discussed this with Andrew, she likes you." "What?" "Ever since you came to our time, she has been somewhat infatuated with you. Remember she was somewhat obsessed with you and the MS Project from a young age. If at some point you wish to make a move on her, you have our blessing." I didn't know what to think. But then I heard, "I do hope you will accept her feelings. She is precious to me, but I know she will be safe with you." I saw that her lips were not moving. But I said, "Thank you ma'am. I'll have to think about it. This is a lot to take in." "I understand." I could have sworn it was her who spoke in my head. So after lunch I said my thanks and went back to the base. But instead of going back to the 1st R&D, I went to the Base hospital, and went to the clinic. When I saw the doctor I told that while I was having my conversation with Anna, I swore I heard her voice in my head but she was not speaking. The doctor referred me to the Psychiatric Ward for testing. After a series of tests that lasted for well over three hours, the doctors came to the conclusion that I was a psychic. More specifically, the tests were to determine what my Psychic Index reading was. They told me that any PI reading below a 3 was considered non-psychic. A rating of 4 was considered borderline telepathic. Individuals with a rating of 4 could feel the Psychic influence of others but could not communicate with them. A PI rating of 5 through 8 was considered telepathic, meaning that an individual can speak in the minds of others and they can read another's thoughts. Any rating above a 9 is considered a telekinetic, meaning that you not only can read minds but can manipulate objects with training. The doctors were just as surprised but it seems that I had PI Rating of 12, but somehow it remained dormant until now. They immediately notified the head Psychiatric medicine, Whom I talked with about my options. He said that I have two option, One: Resign my position as Commander of the 1st R&D and join the Ghost Program, and be trained as a special operations operator, or two: keep my position and receive regular training on how to handle my innate abilities. I chose to keep my position. He said that he would notify the Ghost Academy and they would have someone from the academy see me regularly to train on how to use my abilities. After I was finished with the doctor I went back to the 1st R&D. I had some things to do.

Today we were going to be graced with the Commandant of the Marine Corps, so he could see the progress of the Mobile Suits and the Pegasus. Because of my designs, I inadvertently made the RX-03 and RX-04, Which I reassigned as the RX-77 and RX-75, extremely limited in terms of versatility. The RX-77 could only be refitted with and 6-tube mini missile launcher in place of the cannons, and the RX-75's arms could only be refitted with 75mm "Igelstellung" quad turrets. I had decided to keep the three RX-77's here at the base and use them for training purposes only. However, the RX-02, which became the RGM-79 was apparently well-suited for versatility. So far we were able to come up with eight different variants: RGC-83 GM Cannon II, which was the replacement for the RX-77, was equipped with thick pieces of Luna-titanium/ ceramic composite armor as well as its armor on its frame, making it heavily armored but light than the RX-77 and was more maneuverable, and it was equipped with 180mm beam cannons on its shoulders, and it could also be equipped with the Guncannons beam rifle, or a 90mm bullpup machine rifle; The RGM-79D GM Cold Districts type was setup like the RGM-79 except that its internal mechanisms were more insulated to protect it from harsh environments, specifically extreme cold, and it was outfitted with the 90mm bullpup rifle and a 180mm recoilless rifle; the RG-79F Desert GM was equipped with flexible shrouds and extra filters over air intakes to prevent mechanical malfunction due to sandy environments, it was armed with the 90mm bullpup rifle and the S000010 beam pistol and the S000011 Beam rifle; the RGM-79C GM Command was a GM that was equipped with extra radio and sensor equipment and had slightly heavier armor than the base model, as this unit was designed for commanders in the field, and it was equipped with the 90mm bullpup rifle, a S000010 Beam pistol and S000011 Beam Rifle; The RGM-79G Ground Combat GM was designed for multi-role ground combat for standard ground forces, it was equipped with the 100mm machine rifle, the S000011 Beam Rifle and the 180mm Recoilless rifle; The RGM-79T GM Trainer was designed as a two-seater training unit for new recruits; the RGM-79SC GM Sniper I which was equipped with upgrade sensors for sniping missions as well as being one of the only unit types to be camouflaged, it was equipped with the S000010 beam Pistol and the BR-M79L3 Beam sniper rifle, which was tuned to be effective up to 4000 meters; and finally the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II which was a pilot customized united for sniping missions, it was the only production model unit that was custom ordered for each pilot, it standard equipped with much finer tuned sensors, the S000010 Beam Pistol and the BR-M79L8 Beam Sniper Rifle which had an effective range of 10000 meters. I also made a new Gundam Unit, RX-79 Ground Combat Gundam, was to be the primary unit for elite pilots, it was made to be mission adaptable, meaning it could handle 2nd line artillery support, front line offensive action or Sniper missions. Its chest, reactor areas and its joints were made of Gundanium but the rest was Luna-titanium. The RX-79 was standard equipped with a 75mm "Igelstellung" Vulcan cannon, a flare launcher and chaff launcher in its chest, as well as the best sensors, the 100mm Machine Rifle, the S000011 Beam rifle, the 180mm Recoilless rifle, a 380mm Rocket launcher and a 6-tube handheld missile launcher. All of its weapons were stored in a backpack mounted on its back.
We also made pretty good progress on the Pegasus. The ship was 280 meter long and was 180 meters wide total. It two forward hangers, and one rear hanger. It was composed of entirely of Luna-titanium laminated armor. It had the look of the ancient Sphinx of Egypt. It was going to be equipped with eight 75mm "Igelstellung" CIWS Turrets, one 420mm triple barrel "Isolde" cannon mounted below the bridge, one "Lohengrin" Positron Cannon mounted in a concealed hanger between the legs, two Mk. 71 "Gottfried" High-energy beam cannons, one mounted on each side of the ship, behind the forward hangers, 12 multi-missile launchers, 6 on each side which could fire the new "Sledgehammer" anti-ship missile, "Wombat" Air-to-surface missile, and "Korinthos" Air-to-Air Missile, and to top it all off, a 24-tube "helldart" mini multi-purpose missile rack. The engine and propulsion systems were about four times faster than a Behemoth and we developed a new computer and reactor system for the Pegasus giving it almost ten times more computing power and quickened response time, and the new reactor gave about five times more power generation.
General Gillespie arrived and was thoroughly impressed with everything we had accomplished in such a short amount of time give that almost everything was experimental. He was extremely impressed with the Pegasus even though it was only 76 percent complete. He said, "Well Colonel, you exceeded my expectations and in record time. How soon do you think we can expect the Pegasus to go into full production?" "Unfortunately General, Because of the complex construction of the Pegasus, as well as the implementation of the materials we are using, it would be too costly to the UED. Plus given the types of weapons and power that the Pegasus Carrier provides, the need for it to go into full production is more than likely not necessary, Sir. And I will stand behind that statement." The general nodded and said, "Very well. So you say that a small number of these carriers with a handful of mobile suits would do the same job, if not do a better job than an entire Battle fleet of Behemoths, Minatours, and a full complement of fighters?" "Yes sir." "All right then. Excellent. I would rather have a small force get the job done rather than have a large contingency. I'm looking forward to the shakedown." "Me too, General. There is something I did want to show you." We both walked over to Hanger 5 where we were house that were already built. I took him halfway to the back of the hanger and showed him a completely customized Mobile Suit. It was colored red, white and orange. It had a large Gatling gun mounted on the left arm with a shield mounted to the Gatling. It had a 3-tube missile launcher mounted on each shoulder, two leg mounted mini-missile launchers, and what looked like a knife on the underside of its right arm. "What is this?" "This is a mobile suit that has been constructed completely from Gundanium. It has three times more power than the RX-79 Ground Combat Gundam and has almost as much firepower as the Pegasus. It is capable of both ground and space combat. It has a 90mm Beam Gatling gun. It is a beam weaponry gun but it fires low power beam shots at three thousand rounds per minute. It has a total capacity of 12000 rounds. In its chest it has two 75 mm Beam Vulcan cannons, which fire at 2000 rounds per minute, 6000 rounds each. It has shoulder mounted missile launchers, which fire six helldart missiles. It also has two micro-missile launchers mounted on its legs, which fire twenty-four micro missiles. It has two 75mm "Igelstellung" cannons in its head and it has two 90mm Machine cannons mounted by the neck. And if the pilot has used up its ammo, it has a folding knife mounted on its right arm. This unit is designed for total assault of a target. It is the XXXG-01H Gundam, Code name: Heavyarms." I could tell that the general was impressed. "How much Gundanium did you us to construct the Heavyarms?" "It weighs in at about ten metric tons, unloaded weight." "Wow. And the reason for this type of mobile suit is?" "These Gundam mobile suit serve a dual purpose. First they will be the prototypes for various high power weapon systems for use on the production units, and two: because I am designing them with customization in mind, once I find some candidates, they will be assigned to the Gundams as Elite Mobile Suit pilots, also known as Gundam Pilots." "Well I am thoroughly impressed Colonel. When do you think you will be able to start training recruits?" "we can start as early as next week. I do however want to have only six recruits so that both Colonel Salinas and I can have one on one training with them so they are able to sufficiently handle the mobile suit." "Sounds good. Good Luck." "Yes sir." We saluted and the General walked away. I looked up at the Heavyarms and said to myself, "Well you may not end up being my unit in the end, but ill be damned if I don't find someone suited for you." With that I walked over to the Mobile suit maintenance chief to have him ready two trainer units for next weeks first MS Class.
