Chapter 24- Seriously?

~Luke's POV~

I gently lifted her up into my arms, carrying her like a princess. She lied limp and unmoving in my arms, completely dead to the world. She was extremely unconscious and her left foot was bent in a disturbingly weird way. I winced inwardly, realizing it was probably broken. I felt extremely guilty. It was my fault after all, for making her climb the epically tall tree when she obviously wasn't very experienced in the art of climbing trees like a ninja.

I had sprinted all the way to Harmonica Town, going past many bewildered faces that stared at Coryn and me as I made my way to the clinic. I almost laughed at their ridiculous faces, but remembered what my mission was and told myself to stop getting distracted.

I kicked the door epically and burst into the Choral Clinic, nearly scaring Jin, the doctor, half to death. Once he could breathe again, his eyes widened at the sight of Coryn, who was still lying, unconscious, in my arms.

"What did you do this time, Luke?" Jin said, face-palming.

"Ummm…Coryn's unconscious." I said guiltily.

"You, my friend, are a genius." Jin said, his face blank.

"No way, really?!" I said happily. 'Wait till I tell Dad this!' I thought excitedly. Jin gave me one of those 'Wow I can't believe you are this smart I never would have guessed that you were so epically awesome' looks. Or at least I think that's what they meant…maybe.

"This way." Jin said, leading me towards a small check-up table. I gently lowered Coryn's limp body onto the table, making sure I didn't hurt her even more. I looked down at her peaceful face. 'At least she doesn't seem like she's in pain right now…' I thought gratefully, ebbing some of my guilt. Jin began doing his doctor-y stuff, asking me to go sit down in a chair adjacent to the table. He looked at her seriously bent foot and his face crunched up a bit in concern and concentration as he prodded and examined it. When he prodded it softly, Coryn would mumble or scrunch up her face, the pain making it past unconsciousness.

"This foot is definitely broken. It'll need a cast." Jin mumbled under his breath. He headed to his cabinet to get out the cast supplies. I merely sat there in awe as the Doc wrapped up Coryn's petite foot expertly in a navy blue cast. I tried to convince him to give Coryn an awesome neon yellow cast, but sadly he shot down my idea. Just as Jin finished, Coryn began to stir, moaning quietly in pain. I looked on sadly, wishing I was the one bearing that pain instead. Jin left the room to go out and collect some herbs and told me to watch over Coryn and not do anything stupid. As soon as he was gone, I scooted my chair up to the table and looked down at Coryn. I glanced at her clammy, pale hand and randomly decided to hold it with mine. I held her hand, blushing slightly but happy to be there for her.

Coryn's eyes blinked open, after a while, revealing the emerald orbs. Her eyes were totally awesome, like the forest. I quickly let go of her hand before she could notice, embarrassed. Then she sat up, wincing in pain and looking at the giant lump of a cast on her foot that was propped up by a couple pillows.

"Navy blue is such a boring color." She said disappointedly.

"That's what I said!" I exclaimed. Coryn turned to me, surprised.

"Luke? What are you doing here?" she asked, confused.

"I carried you here after you epically fell from that tree and stayed to watch over ya!" I explained, proud of my gentlemanly actions.

"Oh! Uh…thanks! Sorry about that by the way…I'm such a klutz." She mumbled, her eyes downcast.

"Aw, it's okay! You're fine now, so it's all good!" I smiled at her. She looked at me and smiled back, blushing a bit. Then she winced again, feeling the pain of her broken foot in full.

Suddenly, the front door of the clinic burst open once more and a bullet with blonde hair sped to where Coryn sat.

"Coryn! You look like crap! What the hell happened?!" Kathy yelled. Coryn just sat there, pouting.

"Why would you tell someone who's hurt that they look like crap? It's not my fault! I fell out of a tree and apparently broke my foot!" she said sassily. Kathy rushed over to her and hugged her tightly.

"You poor thing! It's just one thing after another with you!" Kathy cried, nuzzling Coryn's face while Coryn merely sighed and rolled her eyes. I sighed exasperatedly.

"Kathy, geez! Chill out a bit! It's not like she's dying." I said.

Kathy stopped nuzzling Coryn and turned to glare at me.

"If ya hurt her again, I will never let you live to see the light of day." She declared menacingly. I swallowed, nervous. An angry Kathy can be a dangerous Kathy.

"I didn't hurt her though! The ground did!" I whined.

"I don't give a flying shit whether or not you hurt her! You were there, and you should have protected her!" she growled. I jolted, beginning to feel guilty once again. She really hit home with that one. I quickly decided to just back away slowly. I sat back down and started counting the tiles on the floor.

"Well, Ryn, if ya ever need any help or anythin', just call! Love ya!" Kathy said as she exited the clinic as fast as she had come. Coryn blinked in surprise.

"Ryn, huh? That's an epic nickname!" I exclaimed.

"I guess…but she's never called me that-"

"But you wanna know what nickname would be even better!?" I asked.

"What?" she asked.

"Cori! Ya know, like the beginning of your name! Just cut off the –yn and add an –i! EPIC!" I declared, feeling like a genius. Coryn just sat there, looking slightly dumbfounded. 'She's probably extremely amazed that I came up with such an inventive nickname.' I thought smugly. I was a genius of epic proportions, after all.

"Do you like it?" I asked excitedly, grinning from ear to ear.

"Ummm…" she thought for a second. "Sure?"

I jumped up and down.

"YESSS! I knew it!" I exclaimed. Coryn smiled at me.

After a long while of sitting and talking about lots of random stuff, Jin told me to go home so Cori could rest.

"Aw, I guess I'll leave then…" I conceded.

On some strange impulse, when Jin left the room, I went over to Coryn and gently kissed her on the forehead. When I pulled away, her face was really red for some reason.

"Rest up, Cori! Try to get better real soon so we can hang out again!" I said. Cori smiled hugely.

"Sounds like a plan! And actually, I really like the nickname. Thanks Luke." She said. I just smiled back, and then took my leave. Once I was out of the clinic, I slumped against the building, lost in thought.

'Why is Cori so damn cute? Whenever she smiles, my cheeks feel all hot and I feel like I'm gonna throw up or something. Am I sick?' I felt my forehead, but it wasn't irregularly hot. 'Hmm…what's wrong with me? This has never happened before…'

I shrugged it off in confusion. I stood up again and ran all the way back to my house, pretty sure Dad was going to be beyond pissed at me because I've been skipping work. I shivered, dreading having to face the evil, pissed off dad demon.
