(Fringe Element – The Age of Man)

A lone figure floated in the Lanes Between, unconscious, breathing slowly but just enough to keep him alive. In fact, he wasn't even supposed to be alive, but here he was, facing against all odds for a reason unknown.

"You were made to live in darkness."

The figure closed his eyes tighter at the voice echoing in his head. He wanted to open his eyes, hoping that the god that said that would be right in front of him, so that he could end him faster, but he knew he was not there, so it was meaningless.

"You will always reside in darkness, don't think that the brief change of heart you had at the end of your life will change that."

Vanitas shot his eyes open at these words.

"So why did you bring me back?" Vanitas asked, trying to not sound demanding but it slipped out that way.

Cosmos folded her hands together before she looked around at the land around her, the place where go hearts go once they leave their physical form. "There is a battle to be fought, and I am afraid you are the only one who can stop the threat," she replied.

Vanitas laughed, crossing his arms. "What the hell are you talking about? How am I the only one? Why don't you just get one of those keybladers to do it," Vanitas continued to speak.

"Unfortunately, they have been suffering a great loss for some time, but are managing to move on and continue their lives," Cosmos continued, "So they are not able to stop the threat this time."

"I hope you understand that that's the biggest load of bull I have ever heard in my life," Vanitas retorted.

Vanitas could see the slight hint of anger appear in Cosmos's eyes when she said that. "You can believe what you can, but do know that I am the one that brought you back, and I can take it away much easier."

After Vanitas heard these words slip out of the goddess's mouth, he stayed quiet and listened.

"Yeah know for someone who used to kill people for a living you sure are being nice to me," Vanitas said sarcastically.

The young woman laughed. "I wouldn't be talking like that, I can easily kill you or worse," she glared at him with her vibrate green eyes.

"Worse? Like what?" Vanitas asked.

"Turn you into the people that are trying to throw you in prison for what you did," she looked to him again.

Vanitas gulped, being in the hands of those people was the last thing he wanted. However, he still tried to remain calm by saying, "So you've heard of me."

"I think a better phrase would be who hasn't heard of you, Vanitas," she said his name in a tone that he could not describe.

"Well unfortunately, I haven't heard of you," Vanitas continued the conversation, "So what's your name, red head?"

The young woman's red curls bounced as she turned her head slightly to look her right in the eyes. There was a look of danger in her eyes, as if she was wondering whether or not to give him her name. But after a short few seconds, she finally gave him a name,

"Rushman, Natalie Rushman."

"When the keybladers fought Chaos in their last battle together, they thought that closing the Realm of Darkness was the only way he could escape, but unfortunately Chaos has a skilled mind, and has seemed to find a way around it," Cosmos explained.

"And what is that?" Vanitas asked.

Before she spoke, she looked down at the meadow by her feet, before she looked back up. "You do remember how Xehanort said he could transport through time, as long as there was another version of himself in that time, correct?" Cosmos asked.

"Yeah, what of it?" Vanitas tried not to say to many words to the goddess, since honestly, she scared him in the slightest way.

"Chaos technically is in this time frame, he is just in the Realm of Darkness where time flows differently, so he can transport another version of himself from the past here," Cosmos continued.

Vanitas's eyes widened, "So Chaos can come here?"

Cosmos had a look of worry wipe across her face. "Not just Chaos," she hissed out the next two words, "Feral Chaos."

"Hello love."

Vanitas froze in his spot. Was that… Really her? Not knowing so, he turned around, and was shocked by what he saw.

"I haven't seen you in so long," Xion said, only it was not Xion. This Xion was the Xion that Xehanort created when he sent his heart into her, the Xion that was a member of the Organization along with him. Her yellow golden eyes still stared deep into his soul, her skin was a shade darker then it normally was, and her ears were slightly pointed.

Not knowing what to say, Vanitas simply said one word, "Hi."

"Why would Chaos just create an army the same way Xehanort did? We all saw how that turned out in the end," Vanitas asked.

"He is not creating an army identical to Xehanort's," Cosmos continued to explain, "He needs to save his own energy to bring his younger self to this time, so he can only bring a selective few that still are alive in their present form. He has, however, gathered up a group of selected people that are working for him that are working towards their one goal."

"What goal might that be?" Vanitas asked.

"Simply to bring Feral Chaos here," she explained, "Thankfully, Feral Chaos can only be brought here if Chaos is strong enough to do so, and thankfully, he is still gathering up energy to do."

"And I take it that his army is here to back him up and to make sure that he gets here?" Vanitas asked.

"Exactly," Cosmos continued.

"Commander Leon sir, the UWWLA is ready, what do you want us to do?" One of the soldiers asked.

Leon glared out of the Radiant Garden castle before saying, "Just capture Vanitas before he does something dangerous," he looked away, "I don't care if he had a change of heart that the end of his lingering will life, he will be served to justice if it is the last thing I do."

"I still can't believe you want me to save the worlds single handedly!" Vanitas yelled as he began to feel his body leaving the place were good hearts go and Cosmos's figure began to blur out of his vision.

"I know you can do it, Vanitas," Where Cosmos's last words to him before he vanished, back to the land of the living.

Entering the New Void

"Mom! The man that fell from the sky is over here!" A young, brown haired girl said as she kneeled down to the young man, passed out on the beaches. She and her younger, red headed brother did not know how he got on the islands, but they couldn't just leave him there.

As their mother walked over to the man, she recognized the red and black body suit instantly, and for a brief moment, Kairi did not know what to do.
