Chapter 7 Secrets part 2

It was April 19. Momoko, Miyako, and I were walking to Social Studies and saw that the boys were not here.

"I wonder where the boys are." Miyako asked as she sat down.

"I don't know maybe they are sick." I answered.

"Or maybe something happened that they couldn't be here." Momoko said. "I mean they were acting distant yesterday."

"I don't know." I said.

"Well maybe we can visit them today after school." Miyako said.

"How? We don't know where they live." Momoko answered.

"They live a few houses down from me. I've seen them out in their yard before." Miyako said.

"Well then it's settled! We are going to see the boys after school." Momoko said excitedly.

The bell rang and Mrs. Morris came in.

"Hello class! Today we are going to watch a video about the Murrah building bombing that happened in Oklahoma City nine years ago."

"Um Mrs. Morris. What is the Murrah building?" asked a blond headed girl named Rebecca.

"It was a building that housed a lot of offices and a daycare." Mrs. Morris answered. She put in the video.

After school we were walking to the boys' house. It started to rain as Momoko rang the doorbell.

"Hello?" Brick said as he opened the door.

"What are you guys doing here?!" Butch asked motioning us inside.

"We just wanted to see if you guys were alright." I said. "You have been acting weird." Boomer came up to us and gave us a towel to dry off.

"Where are your parents?" Momoko asked.

"Our father is at work." Brick replied, motioning us to the couch. I took the seat next to Butch.

"What about your mom?" Miyako asked. I forgot to mention that the boys' mother lives in Oklahoma. We looked at the boys and they didn't say anything.

After a minute of silence, Boomer said, "We don't live with our mom."

"Well anyway, why did you boys skip school?" I asked. The boys looked at each other and Butch started talking.

"Our mother used to work as a daycare teacher at the Alfred P. Murrah building."

"On April 19, 1995, our mom was going to work. She said goodbye to us and left. Dad dropped us off at school like he normally did." Brick said. We all knew what was going to happen, but we let him keep talking. "At 9:02 a.m. the building was bombed." Brick said with tears forming in his eyes. Butch got up and left the room. Boomer went with him.

"Our father checked us out from school and we went to our grandmother's house.

Police officers were searching for days after the bombing and they had no sign of our mother. They eventually found our mother, but she was already dead. Our dad was told about what happened to her and told us that we couldn't see her anymore.

Two years later, when my brothers and I were 8, our father got a job in Manhattan and we moved. Now he works in NYC." Brick finished. He wiped away his tears.

"We are so sorry about what happened." Momoko stated and hugged him. "I love you."

"I love you too." He smiled and kissed her softly on the lips.

Miyako and I went to find Boomer and Butch. We found their rooms. I knocked on Butch's door and he let me in.

"I'm so sorry about what happened with your mother. I just thought your parents were divorced." I said and held his hand. We sat down on the bed.

"It's okay." He replied and put me in his lap. I could tell that he was about to cry.

"Butch, you can let it out." He looked at me and kissed my forehead. A tear ran down his face. I cupped his cheek and kissed the tear away. He smiled slightly.

"I love you, Kaoru."

"I love you too." He hugged me tightly.

We went into the living room and talked with the others.

Their father walked through the door. "Hey guys." He waved. Apparently one of the boys told him that we were here. "So, these girls are your girlfriends?"

"Yeah." Brick said.

"Hi nice to meet you. I'm Momoko, Brick's girlfriend, this is Miyako, Boomer's girlfriend, and last is Kaoru, Butch's girlfriend." Momoko greeted introducing us.

"Nice to meet you girls. I've heard lots about each of you." Their dad replied. "Well I'm going to make dinner. You girls are welcome to stay."

"Oh, thanks for the offer sir, but we really need to go. It was nice meeting you!" Miyako said.

"You are welcome anytime." Their dad replied.

"By girls!" The boys said and gave us hugs.

"I love you, Kao." Butch said softly as he hugged me.

"I love you too." I replied.

We left their house and went to Miyako's.
