NYLON ~ 53 ~ GET OUT

Hanna opened the front door and kicked off her shoes before heading to her room to put down a handful of shopping bags. Then she headed into the kitchen where she found Spencer feeding JT who was playfully hopping in his high chair.

"Mama!" he smiled when he saw her.

"Hey little man," Hanna ruffled his hair. She turned to Spencer. "Where's Caleb?"

"He's at the office," Spencer replied guiltily. "I asked him to deliver some documents to Toby."

"Couldn't you have used a messenger?" Hanna asked. "The whole point of you staying here is so that you and Toby can have a better working relationship."

"Sorry," Spencer scoffed, "it's just too soon still. Plus Caleb offered. It's not like you own him."

"He works every day and puts up with you and Toby giving each other the silent treatment," Hanna replied. "He should be spending the weekends with his son instead of refereeing the two of you."

"Wow," Spencer rolled her eyes. "No wonder Caleb didn't want to marry you."

Spencer knew she was in the wrong the moment she said it. She wished more than anything that she could just take in a deep breath and swallow back those words. Hanna stood there in complete shock as the words cracked like a whip.

"I'm sorry," Spencer said slowly. "Hanna, I'm so..."

"Get out," Hanna said calmly.

"Hanna, I didn't..." Spencer tried to recover. Hanna glared at her. Defeated, Spencer grabbed her things and left the kitchen but not before uttering one last phrase. "Happy birthday Hanna."

"Mama!" JT banged his fists on the tray. "Hungy."

"Okay buddy," Hanna said faking a smile as she sat down. "How about some peas."

Hanna finished feeding JT and then cleaned him up. The argument, if you could even call it that, with Spencer still hung over her head but spending time with her son was slowly healing that wound.

"Mama pretty," JT said as they played one the floor with his train set.

"Thanks JT," she kissed his forehead. "You keep saying that and you'll be the only man I need in my life."

In that moment the door opened and Caleb stepped inside carrying two wrapped boxes.

"Hey!" Hanna smiled when she saw him.

"Happy birthday," he said handing her the gifts and giving her a kiss on the forehead.

"Caleb," Hanna smiled. "You don't have to do this."

"I want to," he replied. "Open it."

"Wanna see what Mama got?" Hanna asked JT who was leaning on her thigh.

"Pesen! Pesen!" JT smiled grabbing at the box.

Hanna smiled and opened the first box. It was a large cupcake with her favorite mint icing. She laughed and scooped up a chunk with her finger before popping it in her mouth.

"Thanks Caleb," she said as JT snatched at the pastry.

"You want some?" she teased letting JT stick his finger in the frosting and licking it off. His tiny hands barely held anything and mainly just maimed the cupcake until it looked like a pile of garden mulch. Hanna offered it to Caleb. "Want some?"

"I'll pass," he laughed.

"Come on!" Hanna teased trying to entice him. Caleb didn't waiver, until finally she just shoved the whole thing in his face leaving a trail of icing across his nose.

"That's the last time I give you a gift," he groaned wiping his face as JT doubled over with laughter.

"Wait, wait, wait," she said picking up the other gift. "I didn't open this one yet."

"Yeah, and you don't deserve it anymore," Caleb scoffed.

"It's my birthday!" Hanna stood her ground and ripped off the wrapping paper. She tossed it aside and opened a large square box. Inside was the slinky red dress she had convinced herself not to buy online last month. She turned to Caleb and her mouth dropped open. "How did you know?"

"You used my computer for some online shopping," he reminded her. "I figured it was a hint and I thought maybe you'd like to wear it out to dinner tonight. I made reservations at the new restaurant we just designed."

"Caleb, thank you," she smiled, "but I have plans with Andrew tonight. He just got back from a book tour in Australia."

"I should have guessed," Caleb said defeatedly.

"I love it, though," Hanna kissed his cheek. "I promise, we can go out as a family this week and I'll debut it then."

"It's okay," Caleb told her. "Wear it tonight."

Before Hanna could reply, the doorbell rang. She glanced at the time on her phone.

"It's Andrew, sh-" Caleb cut her off and pointed at JT.

"Sorry little man," Hanna teased. Then she turned to Caleb. "Would you mind answering the door? I just need five minutes to get ready."

"Sure," Caleb said getting up as Hanna bolted for her bedroom. She pulled up her pant leg and realized she hadn't shaved her legs. After uttering a full curse word she grabbed the first floor length dress she found and threw it on quickly. Then she teased the crap out of her greasy hair and tossed it into a sleek pony and finished her look with a bright shade of red lipstick, a surefire way to instantly look hotter. Finally Hanna grabbed her purse and headed for the front door.

"Hey," Andrew said, his jaw dropping at the sight of her.

"Hi," Hanna gave him a hug.

"I thought you were gonna wear..." Caleb stopped when Hanna gave him a look. "Well, you kids have fun."

"So," Andrew whispered as they stepped into the elevator, "where am I taking the birthday girl?"

"I don't care," Hanna sighed, "as long as I get to spend some time with you."

"Well, I made six different reservations," he explained. "Your pick."

"Better idea," Hanna replied. "What if we order in at your place?"

"Skipping right to the good stuff, Marin," he laughed. "I like it."

They hopped in his car and drove to his sleek apartment building while Hanna called in an order. They'd only been inside five minutes before a delivery boy arrived with their dinner.

"This is probably the best birthday I've had in years," Hanna laughed taking another bite.

"Really?" Andrew asked. "What did you do last year?"

"I had a screaming newborn," she replied. "I think Caleb rented a movie and we fell asleep within five minutes."

"I guess it's not too hard to trump that," Andrew laughed leading to a pause in the conversation. "Speaking of Caleb, how long will he be living with you."

"Indefinitely I guess," Hanna replied. "His dad is staying at his place, and frankly, it's better for JT. That's what's most important anyway. Why do you ask?"

"I don't know," Andrew sighed. "I guess it's just weird that your ex-boyfriend answers the door when I come pick you up."

"I'm sorry," Hanna told him. "I totally lost track of time. I was running super late so I asked him to stall you."

"Yeah that makes it better," Andrew scoffed.

"Look," Hanna placed her hand on his, "I'm here with you."

"Are you sure?" he asked. "It seems like you'd always rather be with Caleb."

"I just live with him," Hanna explained. "It's like having a roommate."

"Yeah, except you have a child together," Andrew retorted. "You were engaged to him!"

"I don't think I need to justify myself," Hanna said getting up. "You knew my whole story before you asked me out. Maybe I should just go home."

"Yeah, you wouldn't want to leave Caleb waiting," Andrew scoffed.

"You know what?" Hanna turned to him, "we're done, romantically and professionally. I'll call your assistant in the morning to terminate our contract."

With that Hanna snatched up her purse and stormed out the door. She grabbed a cab and quickly made her way home where she nearly tripped over a suitcase walking into the dark foyer.

"-the fuck?" she muttered.

"Sorry," a woman's voice said in the dark.

"Spencer?" Hanna flashed her friend in the face with the glow from her phone. "Where are you going?"

"I thought you wanted me gone," Spencer replied.

"When did I...?" Hanna mused aloud. Then she remembered. "Spence, no. I'm not mad about that anymore."

"I'm sorry," Spencer told her. "Really. In fact, I have no right to say anything about relationships. I'm hiding out from my husband at his best friends' house."

"It's okay," Hanna replied. "We all say things we don't mean."

"I really am sorry," Spencer echoed.

"I know," Hanna sighed. "It's fine. I just don't wanna talk about it anymore."

"Are you okay?" Spencer asked. "You're home kind of early."

"I don't know," Hanna sighed. "Andrew and I broke up.

"Come on," Spencer took her hand, "let me get the wine cork. You can tell me everything."

With that Spencer grabbed a bottle of wine, foregoing the glasses, before she and Hanna crawled into the bed in the spare room. They took turns taking swigs until their eyes were heavy with sleep.

Anyhow, that's the end of Handrew. I'm so excited because I hated writing about him. Haleb fans, this is your time. Again, not sure how often I'll be posting but I will update as much as I can in the little time I do have. Thanks for reading :)
