NYLON ~ 77 ~ WE'VE MADE IT THIS FAR

Hanna rolled over in bed. The moonlight shone through the crack in the curtains as the night sky slowly lit up into dawn. Her peaceful sleep was disrupted by the sudden urge to purge her body. Throwing off the covers, Hanna ran for the bathroom. She hunched over the toilet and everything she'd ingested came pouring out. When the nausea had passed, Hanna brushed her teeth. She pressed a hand to her cold stomach and wiped her clammy forehead. She stepped back into the bedroom and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was just past five in the morning.

Then she looked at the calendar on her dresser. A red circle signaled when she should have had her period. She was a week late. When she hadn't gotten her period she was suspicious but she didn't want to get her hopes up like before. Today marked the first day she had felt nauseated though. She desperately wanted to know if she was pregnant but she also needed some sleep so she crawled back under the sheets.

"Hey," Caleb tapped her. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she groaned turning around to face him. The motion made her sick all over again and she bolted for the bathroom. Caleb ran after her pulling her long hair behind her head and out of the way. He soothed small circles on her back as she hacked up the rest.

"Better?" he asked when she was brushing her teeth again.

"Kind of," she sighed. She spit and rinsed her mouth, then turned to Caleb. "I think I might be pregnant."

"That's great news!" he smiled. Then caught himself. "I mean, I'm sorry you're not feeling great."

"I don't know," she sighed sitting on the ground. "I just don't want to get my hopes up like last time."

"We don't have to find out right now," he said rubbing her shoulders.

"No," she said finally. "I need to know."

"I'll uh," Caleb got up unsure of what to do, "make you some tea."

Hanna opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed a pregnancy test. She chugged some water from the faucet and then sat down to pee on the stick. Once she'd finished, she replaced the cap and laid it on the counter top.

"Here," Caleb appeared in the doorway holding a steaming mug of tea which he handed her.

"Thanks," Hanna smiled. She took a sip and placed it on the counter before hopping up onto the vanity.

"Five minutes?" Caleb asked standing opposite her. She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him close.

"Thank you," she told him resting her head on his chest, "for being here with me right now."

"I told you," he said rubbing her back. "I want to be with you every step of the way this time."

"I'm sorry," she replied, "for not trusting you before. "

"Hanna," he laughed, "that was years ago. And we were different people then. I'm just glad we've made it this far together."

"I'm scared," she said finally. "What if this baby drives us apart like before?"

"Hanna," he kissed her deeply. "I won't let that happen again. I've lost you too many times. Nothing will tear us apart again."

"Promise?" she asked. He didn't have a chance to answer before the timer went off. Hanna snatched the test off the counter and shrieked when she saw the double lines. "I'm pregnant!"

"You're pregnant?!" Caleb laughed hugging her tightly. Then he brought his lips down to hers. "I love you, baby."

"Holy shit," Hanna rubbed her aching stomach. "We're doing this again."

"Yeah," Caleb placed his hand over hers. "JT's getting a little brother."

"Or sister," Hanna corrected him.

"Or sister," Caleb echoed.

He kissed her forehead and she rested her head on his chest as a smile spread across her face.
