NYLON ~ 80 ~ ANY CONCERNS
Hanna pulled up her jeans and struggled to button them. She was only two months pregnant and already her belly was protruding just below her belly button. She grabbed a hair tie and wrapped it around the button and through the hole to giver herself some extra room, a trick she'd picked up during her first pregnancy. Then she threw on a grey v-neck over a tight tank top. Her phone beeped and she picked it up to see Caleb had texted her from downstairs. She grabbed her purse and ran to the elevator before hopping into his parked car.
"How was work?" she asked as he drove them toward the doctor's office.
"Pretty good," he replied. "I'm finishing up the plans for Jason's house and we should be done in two months."
"Great," she smiled. "Are you planning any more trips out there?"
"I have to go next month," Caleb replied, "to check on the renovations but Toby said he'd take the follow up trip."
"I don't like it when you're gone," Hanna pouted.
"I know," he said rubbing her growing belly, "but it's only a couple of days."
"We're going to miss you," she told him pressing her hand over his.
He smiled as he drove through town. Finally he pulled into a parking garage and they took the elevator to the doctor's office. Hanna put her name on the list and they sat down in the waiting area. It was only a few minutes before they were called into the back. Hanna sat up in the exam chair and they waited for the doctor to arrive after her vitals had been recorded.
"Hello, hello?" there was a tap on the door.
"Hi," Hanna smiled at Dr. Morgan.
"And how are you today?" Dr. Morgan asked.
"Good," Hanna replied. "This is my husband Caleb."
"Nice to meet you, Caleb," the doctor shook his hand.
"Alright," the doctor had Hanna lean back as she began the examination. "Do you have any concerns for me?"
"Um," Hanna paused for a second, "I…uh…maybe I'm not remembering things correctly but I feel like this baby is much bigger than my last and my morning sickness is a lot worse."
"That happens sometimes with the second child but you're growing at the prefect rate," the doctor said pulling out an ultrasound machine. "Are you ready to take a look?"
"Yes," Hanna smiled lifting up her shirt as the doctor spread a gooey substance on her belly. The doctor rubbed the monitor around and finally landed it on Hanna's right side.
"See right there?" the doctor asked pointing at a spot on the monitor.
"Yeah," Hanna and Caleb replied in unison.
"There are actually two embryos," the doctor explained.
"What does that mean?" Hanna asked concerned.
"You're having twins," the doctor said.
"Twins?" Caleb echoed in shock.
Hanna stared at the monochromatic photo in her hand while Caleb drove them back home. She traced the two dark splotches and then pressed a hand to her growing stomach.
"Well," she turned to Caleb, "I guess we can't say you ever half-ass anything."
"Oh, it's my fault?" he asked.
"We weren't even trying with JT," Hanna reminded him, "and now we were only kind of trying and you get me knocked up with twins."
"I know," he laughed. "I'm pretty impressive."
"Oh my God," she groaned. "What are we going to do with two babies?"
"It's gonna be fine," Caleb placed his hand over hers. "Trust me, we're ready for this."
"Nope," Hanna laughed. "No one is ever ready for this."
"I mean, as ready as we'll ever be?" he offered.
"At least you got your wish," Hanna teased. "We're definitely on our way to having a big family."
"JT will be stoked," Caleb smirked.
"Yes he will," Hanna laughed as they continued their drive home.
