NYLON ~ 91 ~ HE LIKES US

Caleb sat on the edge of the bed while Hanna searched her closet for something to wear to a black tie event that would fit her nearly nine month pregnant body. Finally, she settled on a floor-length long sleeve kaftan decorated with a tropical floral print. With all of the strength she could muster, she pulled it on and fastened the various buttons before tying the empire waist belt into a proper bow.

"How do I look?" she asked Caleb stepping out of the closet.

"Beautiful," he breathed.

"Shut up," she snapped.

"Hey," Caleb scolded her. "There are children in this home."

"They're sleeping," Hanna rubbed her belly.

"I still don't like the idea of us going to this party," Caleb told her. "You could have these babies any minute."

"That's what I'm hoping for," Hanna teased. "But seriously, I'm off of bed rest. The babies will come when they come and I'm not missing the opening of our biggest project ever."

"Okay," Caleb kissed her forehead, "but if you feel anything weird, you'll let me know?"

"Of course," she smiled, "now let's get this party started."

"No one has said that since before we were born," Caleb told her.

They laughed and she followed him into the elevator headed to the ground floor. The doors opened and they made their way toward Caleb's car parked a few feet away. Caleb took Hanna's hand as he helped her into the front seat. Then they were on their way to the majestic hotel set on the roaring plains of Long Island.

After nearly an hour of driving, Caleb finally pulled off of the main road and dove up the winding pathway to the estate which had been converted into luxury accommodations. He handed the keys off to the valet and helped Hanna out of the car.

"Thank you," she said lopping her arm through Caleb's.

"Ready?" he asked.

"Of course!" she squealed. "I never got a chance to see the final product."

"Come on," Caleb smiled at her.

He led her inside to the foyer revealing a vaulted ceiling and two winding staircases. Hanna's jaw dropped in awe at the sight of their combined efforts. She considered the hotel just as much her baby as the two girls growing inside of her.

"Hey!" Spencer said when she saw Hanna.

"Hi," Hanna gave her a great big hug. As much as she tried, she could no longer keep her distended belly from getting in her way.

"This is a job well done," Mr. Merkoff said approaching the group of designers.

"Thank you," Toby shook the man's hand.

"And nearly a month ahead of schedule," Merkoff smiled. Then he saw Hanna. "I heard you had a huge hand in the process."

"I'm honored you put your trust in us," she told him,

"Well deserved," Merkoff replied.

"Thank you," Caleb shook his hand and Merkoff strutted across the room to greet the rest of his dignified guests.

"He likes us!" Spencer squealed.

"Hopefully there's a lot more where that came from," Toby smiled.

The four of them wandered through the hotel admiring their stunning work and enjoying the compliments they were paid by the grand opening attendants. After nearly an hour of exploring the hotel in the crowded state it was meant to be, Hanna felt her body starting to rebel against her.

"You okay?" Caleb asked her.

"Yeah," she sighed, "but I think the girls need their rest."

"They're not even born yet," Toby said, "and they're already ruining our fun."

"Shut up," Spencer playfully slapped him.

"You guys should stay," Hanna told them. "No reason for us to bring you guys down."

"Yeah," Caleb replied. "I'll take Hanna home, but you two should stay. Christen the pool for us."

"Oh, we already did," Toby winked. "Last week."

"Gross," Hanna pointed to her stomach. "There are innocent children in here."

"They should know their uncle's a pimp," Toby replied.

"You did not just call yourself a pimp!" Spencer nearly spit out her drink.

Hanna laughed while she and Caleb said their goodbyes. Then they found the valet and had their car pulled up to the front. Caleb helped her in and they made their way back to their apartment on the Upper East Side.

"See?" Hanna said. "Everything went fine."

"I'll remember to listen to you next time," he told her.

"Don't be like that," Hanna replied. "You're usually the one that's right, but when it comes to the maternal stuff, leave it to me."

"As you wish," he laughed turning onto the main road.

They drove in silence the rest of the way until Caleb pulled into their spot in the underground garage. He got out and opened the door, helping Hanna steady herself, and then they took the elevator to their not so humble abode on the top floor.

Hanna headed straight to her room and got ready for bed. She threw on a stretched out night shirt and crawled into bed next to Caleb. Once she had fluffed up the pillows, she got comfortable and placed her hands on her huge belly.

"I don't think I can get any bigger," Hanna sighed, now accustomed to no longer being able to see her feet.

"It will all be worth it when they're here," Caleb smiled.

"Easy for you to say," she teased. Then she took a deep breath, "but you're totally right. I just want these little girls out."

"I know Han," he kissed her forehead. "I wish there was some way I could help."

"You could rub my feet," she smiled.

"Fine," he sighed throwing the covers off.

Caleb sat down at the edge of the bed and got to work easing the stress from Hanna's feet. Even though he put on a sour face, Hanna knew he enjoyed the chance to spend time with her in the calm before the babies arrived.

UP NEXT ~ FOREVER
