NYLON ~ 95 ~ YOU CAN'T WEAR A CAPE
Hanna finished folding napkins into delicate swans and placed one at every table setting. The girls were napping in the other room and JT was out with his dad. Spencer popped her head in from the kitchen and called Hanna over.
"What's up?" Hanna asked.
"Okay," Spencer told her, "the food will be ready in an hour. Emily just texted and said they're ten minutes away."
"Awesome," Hanna smiled. "How about the cake? Is it still coming?"
"Aria's picking it up on the way over," Spencer explained.
"Where is Caleb?" Hanna picked up her phone to text him but before she could press SEND he came walking in the front door.
"Sorry we're late," he told her. "I'll go get changed."
"Jamie," Hanna picked up her son. "Let's get you some nice clothes."
"Mama," he protested, "I want to wear my cape."
"We're having an engagement party," Hanna told him. "You can't wear a cape."
"Put Ben said he's wearing his," JT pleaded.
"Honey," she told him earnestly, "you can't wear a cape to dinner."
"Fine," he sighed defeated. "I won't wear my cape."
Hanna laughed and helped him into a pair of jeans and a red shirt. Then she helped tie his shoes and he went running into the dining room where Spencer was setting the table. The doorbell rang and Hanna answered it to find Toby at the door carrying Victoria in his arms.
"Come in," Hanna told him. "Spencer is in the kitchen."
Seconds later, the doorbell rang once again and Aria came in followed by her brood and Ezra carrying a white bakery box. Hanna pointed them toward the kitchen and returned to the door once again when Emily and Paige arrived.
"Hey!" Hanna squealed when she saw her.
"Oh my gosh," Emily smiled, "this place looks amazing. Thank you so much for doing this."
"Well," Hanna laughed, "it saves us the trouble of throwing two bachelorette parties, and we wanted to do something special for you girls."
"Hanna," Paige gave her a hug, "how do you have time to do this?"
"Trust me," Hanna told her. "I have a lot of help."
"Hanna!" a little voice at her feet shrieked.
"Hey Princess Ali," Hanna picked her up and kissed her cheek. "Do you want to help me in the kitchen?"
"Yeah!" Ali replied.
Hanna carried her to the kitchen and set the small girl on a dining stool. Then she handed her a stack of papers with names listed on them.
"Can you fold these in half?" Hanna asked her. "Then put them on the table so everyone knows where to sit?"
"Yupp," Ali smiled getting to work.
Emily placed a hand on Hanna's shoulder.
"Hey," Emily smiled. "You're really great with kids."
"Thanks," Hanna replied. Then she turned to everyone else in the room. "Can we raise a toast to Emily and Paige."
"To Emily and Paige!" everyone repeated.
