NYLON ~ 96 ~ CHIMCHINAS
Hanna bounced Ashley in her arms while her Emily held a sleeping Tai against her chest. On the couch opposite them, Aria and Spencer were chatting away as they sipped glasses of rosé.
"They're really sleeping through the night?" Aria asked her.
"Pretty much," Hanna replied. "Tai wakes up sometimes but usually they go down pretty easily."
"You have it made," Spencer told her. "Victoria still wakes us up in the middle of the night."
"She'll get there," Hanna assured her. Then she turned to Emily. "So, when's the big wedding?"
"It's hard to say," Emily replied. "With the studio still in it's first year we don't have a bunch of extra time and money. Plus I want Ben and Ali to get a chance to adjust to Paige before we tie the knot. It could be a while."
"Just let me know when you set a date," Hanna told her. "I still have some connections at Vera Wang and I can probably get a couple of dresses on loan."
"You're the best," Emily told her.
"How is Paige, anyway?" Spencer asked her. "Is she still working for the city?"
"I think she might be moving to a hospital," Emily explained. "She loves the private practice but working out of the hospital will make it easier for her to take the government jobs."
"I think that would be good for her," Hanna said.
"We'll see," Emily replied.
"Hey Han," Spencer asked. "Ashley's named after your mom, right? Where did you get Tai's name?"
"From Clueless," Hanna replied matter-of-factly. "Brittany Murphy's character."
"You named her after a character from a nineties movie?" Aria laughed.
"Who are you to talk?" Hanna laughed. "You named your kids after characters from books I read in ninth grade English."
"More like, you read the abbreviated notes," Spencer told her.
"Whatever," Hanna scoffed. "High school was a hundred years ago."
"Well, you weren't great at math either," Spencer teased. "High school was only eleven years ago. I know because we went to our ten year reunion last year."
"Woah," Hanna laughed. "What's up with the sarcasm?"
"Sorry," Spencer sighed. "Victoria is up all night and I'm a little sleep deprived."
"I see that," Emily smirked.
Then they all turned their attention to the door where Caleb emerged carrying JT in his arms. He placed the little boy on the ground and he went running toward Hanna.
"Mama!" he jumped into her arms. "We went to the zoo! I saw all the animals."
"Really?" Hanna smiled. "Which animals did you see?"
"We saw giraffes and flamingos and," he turned to Caleb, "what was the fuzzy gray one?"
"Chinchillas?" Caleb shrugged.
"Yeah!" JT cheered. "Chimchinas!"
"I'm glad you had fun," Hanna told him. Then she turned to Caleb. "Did you enjoy yourself?"
"Of course," he laughed. "Thirty years old and I finally know what a zoo is like."
"Dad I'm tired," JT rubbed his eyes.
"Come on bud," Caleb picked him up, "let's go take a nap."
Caleb carried JT into his bedroom leaving Hanna with her friends to gush over the baby girls.
"I should probably get going," Emily said grabbing her purse. "I don't want to leave Paige alone with the kids for too long."
"Well," Hanna got up to give her a hug, "thanks for coming."
"I'm glad I got to spend some time with the girls," Emily told her. "They are adorable."
"Thanks," Hanna smiled.
She hugged her friends goodbye and then walked her to the door. Then she turned back to the room and saw how loved her little girls were and how blessed she was to have so many people who loved her.
