Chapter Thirty

Breaking

"Got ya."

The Governor remained knelt in front of Anna, his eyes searching her face and noticing that she was looking at anywhere but him. He smirked, liking the fact that he unsettled her so much. He turned his attention to the rope hat was once around her neck but was now in a heap in her lap. He closed his eyes for a moment in frustration, feeling his anger begin to course through his veins. He took a deep breath, before opening his eyes again, maintaining the composure he was used to showing. Fake it 'til you make it, was his motto. And in situations like this, he had to keep his composure when all he wanted to do was beat her senseless.

"Y'know, that makes me mad..." He said, pointing towards the loose ropes in her lap. "Not gonna talk, huh?"

Anna moved her gaze from the door onto him. His face was emotionless but his eyes bore into her like he knew all of her secrets. He unsettled her; he had done so much to her that the thought of him being in front of her - so close to her face - made her uncomfortable. And the fact that he was so close to her face made her skin crawl. Anna narrowed her eyes at him, remaining as calm as she could even though she was screaming in her mind. Not answering him seemed to rile him up and it was then that she saw him crack, his whole posture became tense and his face was seething. She tried to keep calm and collected but she had angered him to the point that she was unsure of his actions afterwards. He stared at her for a moment, before his fist collided with her face.

The shock of his fist cracking her across the face made her body lurch forward slightly, causing the ropes to dig into her chest from the sudden movement thus causing Daryl's body to be pulled back towards her. The pressure on his chest was unbearable, but he knew that Anna couldn't control the lurch forward.

"Ya don't know who ya messing with, Gov..." Daryl hissed. "Ya hit her one more time, and ya'll have me to answer to, got that?"

"When you're tied up?"

"When I get out of this, ya gonna have hell to pay."

"Ooh, threatening me. Don't worry, your turn's coming once I'm done with her."

As The Governor finished his sentence, Anna began to laugh to herself. Her whole head ached from the sudden hit, and her teeth felt weird. She could taste blood coming from the cut on her lip. The laughing seemed to unsettle The Governor as his attention moved away from Daryl who was struggling against the restraints and onto Anna who had now sat up and was leaning back against the beam. Blood dribbled down her chin from the busted lip he had made. Her cheek was red from where he had cracked her. He watched as she continued to laugh. Her whole head felt as if it was on fire. Then the laughing stopped, and the room they were in was quiet.

"What do you want?" Anna asked bitterly.

"The thing is... If I tell you now then the surprise won't really be much of a surprise now, will it?"

"Why don't you just enlighten me?"

The Governor smirked. "You'd like that, wouldn't you? Well I'm not. You just have to wait and see," The Governor paused. "Anyway, I've got other things planned before the big surprise."

The Governor moved towards the door and knocked twice. Anna watched as the door opened after a couple of seconds and a man she barely recognised entered the room. He was the same height as Daryl, with short hair and a muscular build. He was carrying something in his hand. She noticed the look shared between both men, as well as the small nod coming from the newcomer. She watched as he threw something over to The Governor who caught it with no trouble, and then as both of them advanced towards her and Daryl. They struggled as something was placed over both of their heads, obscuring their senses. Both put up a fight as they were cut from the beam. Anna felt herself being lifted from the ground, and put over someone's shoulder. She heard as Daryl's yelling and shouting moved further into the distance, before a loud noise could be heard as the door shut behind them.

She didn't know where she was being taken, but it wasn't a long journey. And before she knew it she was in a different room. It was colder, lighter, and dirtier than the other room. She was thrown onto the floor where she crashed into a heap, pain reverberating throughout her body. The wind had been knocked out of her, but before she could do something, the sheet was pulled from her head.

The Governor's sickening smirk was the first thing that met her. "It's just you and me now."

It was dark when he awoke, and it took a few moments for him to acknowledge where he was. The pain came to him quickly, and he touched his face as gently as he could. Wherever he touched stung despite his gentle touch. He took note of other ailments he hadn't had before; his ribs were likely broken from how he was finding it difficult to breathe, his stomach hurt from where he had been kicked repeatedly. He had been moved into a different place, his arm was upwards and handcuffed to the radiator.

It was then that he heard it. The muffled sobbing coming from across the room. He squinted into the darkness, and saw a figure curled up with their back towards him.

"Anna?" He whispered. The sobbing stopped as soon as they heard his voice. They were silent for a moment.

"Yeah..." Anna whispered.

"Ya okay?" Daryl cursed himself for even asking when he knew she was anything but.

"Yeah, fine."

"He hurt ya." It was more of a statement than a question, and it tasted bitter in his mouth. Her silence spoke a thousand words, and he closed his eyes and tried not to think of what she had to go through but his mind was racing. He had hurt her in a way that he couldn't explain, and it made him angry to think that The Governor thought he could do something like that and think he could get away with it.

"I don't want to talk about it, Daryl."
