Beau gave Angela a relieved smiled as the two finally stopped dancing...
"That was amazing... You're amazing..." he blurted out as they bowed at each other... Honestly, he had no idea Angela could dance so well...
"So that was what Miss Potts was being so secretive about for weeks..." he thought with a grin... Also, he was immensely surprised and not to mention relived that he had stumbled through this dance without completely trampling over her bare feet... Angela smiled.
"Thank you... Did you... Did you enjoy..."
"I had a wonderful evening,... I've never enjoyed a ball more... I hated them in the village but... This... This was one of the most enjoyable nights of my life..." Beau admitted.
"One of?" Angela thought quizzically... This was easily the best night of her life...
Hand in hand, the two stepped out for a breath of fresh air and the servants who had been holding back their ecstasy for far too long finally exploded into a loud cheers of jubilation...
Outside, Beau led Angela to a stone bench over looking the castle gardens... They sat together in silence... Comfortable silence... Not awkward silence... with Angela leaning on Beau's shoulder and him on her head...
Angela closed her eyes enjoying the sweet smell of roses carried by the soothing evening breeze that swirled around them, ruffling through her fur... She smiled...Soon... Very soon...
"Beau..."
"Hmm?"
"Are you happy? I mean... happy here... with me?" she asked softly, trying not to sound... desperate...
"Of course I'm happy... I mean this place is amazing... Its like a fairytale just being here and I honestly love it here but..." Beau's voice trailed off...
Angela raised her head from Beau's shoulder... Worried by the sudden change in his voice...
"Beau, is something wrong?" she asked.
Beau looked at Angela's concerned face... Her ears were flattened against her hair, her head cocked to a side... Her animalistic but still strangely human face furrowed with adorable apprehension... He felt almost... bad for speaking his mind...
"Its nothing... It's just that... I'm worried about my father that's all...
Angela's stomach dropped a little... Right... Beau's father... The poor old man who she had thrown into a dungeon cell to rot... She cringed a little at that memory... Regret bubbling at the pit of her stomach...Though it seemed a little hypocritical... She couldn't believe that she did that... It was just... so beastly... She looked up fearfully... Afraid that Beau might remember... and hate her for it... Thankfully he didn't seem to and was still talking cheerfully...
"He's got a brilliant mind but can be quite an... Eccentric... I just hope he hasn't blown up the basement..."
Angela raised an eyebrow.
"Blow up the basement?"
Beau shrugged.
"Wouldn't be the first time..." he shrugged before smiling brightly and playfully lifting Angela up bridal style and twirling her.
"But that doesn't matter right now... Its your birthday so you're going to have my full attention today!" he announced.
Angela laughed, wrapping her arms tighter around him. She really wanted that... With all her heart... but a nagging voice at the back of her head kept bringing back the unpleasant memory of what she did to Beau's father... and she still really really regretted that... Deeply regretted it... To the point it was almost painful... As Beau let her back down on her feet and before she could even stop herself... she gave him an offer he couldn't refuse...
"You know Beau... You could check on your father from here..."
Beau's smile vanished while his brown eyes widened...
"What? How?"
Angela smiled.
"Magic... Follow me..."
Gently, she led him back into the castle, up the marble stairways, through the hallway of knight armors and up a flight of... Beau stopped short upon recognizing the gargoyle statues... Angela paused upon feeling Beau freeze in his tracks...
"What's wrong?" she asked quizzically.
"This... This is the West Wing..." Beau whispered as his eyes travelled down the dark hallway filled with its shattered mirrors and torn paintings... Angela took a look down the familiar hallway... puzzled by Beau's reactions...
"Yes..."
Beau backed away a little... He really didn't mean to bring up any unpleasant memories, he genuinely didn't want to... but the last time he was here... Angela did attempt to rip his head off... Beau shuddered; he did not want to remember how much of a monstrous animal Angela could be... After all... It had been so easy to forget...
Angela studied Beau's face in confusion before realization dawned on her... Slowly, she approached him, an arm outstretched...
"Beau... I won't hurt you... I can never hurt you..." she said softly.
Beau looked at her outstretched paw... and then back to her face... This was Angela... The girl he had been spending last two months with... Angela... His best friend in the entire world... Taking a deep breath... He willed himself to trust her... With a smile, he wrapped his hand around hers...
"I know... I trust you..."
Together, they made their way down the hallway and into Angela's room...
Beau took a hesitant glance around the room... The last time he was here, it resembled more of a storage room for broken furniture. This time however, it actually looked like a room fit for living in... With unbroken furniture, silk curtains and even a mirror... Beau raised an eyebrow at that but said nothing... He watched as Angela made her way to the stone table, and pulled out a hand held mirror...
"What's this?" he asked carefully as Angela handed it to him.
"It's a magic mirror..."
Beau raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Magic mirror? Are you actually telling me this is a mirror with magical properties?"
Angela nodded before grinning wolfishly at his expression...
"Don't be such a skeptic... I'm living proof that magic exists..." she joked lightly.
"Oh and in what way?"
"Well... You can say that I was created by magic..." she mumbled.
That was true... Sort of... Not really but sort of... However, not wanting to dwell on that sensitive subject any longer, Angela cleared her throat and continued.
"Anyway, this mirror is magical, it can show you anything you want..."
"Anything?"
"Anything at all... All you need to do is ask..."
Still a little in disbelief, Beau took a cautious look at the mirror and back at Angela... Noticing how her tail seemed swished back and fro impatiently, he sighed and asked his question...
"I want to see my father... Maurice Chevalier... Please..."
Yeah... This was quite a sort chapter I know... but I'm working on the last few climatic chapters and to fans of my other works, I have started revisiting and writing story lines for them again so... Hehe... No but seriously the next chapter will be longer, I solemnly promise... Plus, I think you guys waited too long for a chapter and I didn't want to come back on a dark note so... sorry... Enjoy and review because they make me happy
