The One That Got Away
Chapter 13
Midorima Shintarou pushed himself off his swivel chair. He gathered his personal notepad and his lucky item for the day. The stethoscope dangled on his neck as he made his rounds in the hospital. Nurses, patients and colleagues greeted or nodded at the doctor as he roam throughout the hospital. The green haired shooter of The Generation of Miracles step in a particular floor and stopped in front of a room. The slight drawing of the curtain made it possible for him to see inside through the glass windows. A pale woman was on the bed, her face was beginning to colour compared to the previous week she was confined. His gaze next went to the silent man on her right side, sitting on a wheel chair. His hand grips her pale ones. He stood on his spot for a while before pushing his glasses up and walk toward the door. He checked upon Mrs. Kuroko and asked a few questions to Takeru, who answered absentmindedly, not taking his eyes off his wife. He lingered for a minute before taking his leave, the man clearly do not want any companion, not that Midorima cared or so he says. He needed to update his patients profile and there is a lot of paperwork waiting for him. Entering his working place, he was mildly shocked seeing the figure inside, obviously waiting for him.
"Shintarou-kun. I see, you've grown up well." A redhead man greeted eyeing him with approval "Pardon my sudden intrusion, I hope you don't mind."
Finding his voice, Midorima answers "Not at all Akashi-sama." He ushered the older man to his sitting area on the other side of his office. He asked a nurse to prepare some tea. After the tea was served with some cakes, Satorou spoke.
"I heard a lot about your achievements from your father. You mother must've been very proud." He said for a start as he took a small sip of the green tea, with the usual Akashi grace. Akashi Satorou shares a major part of the Midorima's hospital, the businessman is engage in many different business, from art, medicine, agriculture and the long list go on. He had been partners with the Midorimas since Shintarou could remember and one could say that the the family of doctors was the closest one to be called a family friend of the Akashis.
"I do not deserve your praise Akashi-san. Though.." Shintarou suspiciously looked at the elder man. "I'm quite sure that my achievement has nothing to do with the purpose of your visit."
Akashi smirked inwardly 'Hm, nothing less than what I expected from Midorima's son', humoring the other a bit "Shintarou-kun, you sound like you don't want me here."
"That is not what I meant Akashi-sama," the smirk got wider.
"Well, what do you think is the matter that brought me here? I'm certain you are very much aware since you were at the festival, right Shintarou-kun?" Midorima stiffened, that confirmed his suspicion. The older Akashi learned about Tetsumis reappearance in Akashi's life. It did not shocked him though, he knew that the older Akashi was bound to find that out sooner or later but he must say that he did not expect for the businessman to come to him about it. What he knew about Akashi's father was he deal things like this with Akashi himself, he was never indirect.
"And it seems that the foolish son of mine had the audacity to disappear like thin air and leave a rather amusing letter." He said 'amusing' but judging from his looks it was anything but. Now that was news, so that was the reason. Midorima knew Akashi had plans but the red head did not gave anything to Midorima, 'What did you do Akashi?'
"Letter?"
"His resignation letter." Midorima almost choked on his tea, well the truth is he did a little. 'Akashi resigned?' He could not say that saw that coming but it made sense. If Akashi cut all ties with the Akashi conglomerate the marriage is immediately off. Satorou's objective is clear, it was to ensure Akashi's position in the business world, not that it was precarious in the first place. He wanted his son to continue his line. The marriage is there due to merging. But with him resigning, the older Akashi's goal could not be completed and such the marriage is off. He could not marry his son off and let another person take over the company. That would be pointless.
Satorou leaned on the chair and his attention fully on the doctor infront of him. "Now Shintarou-kun, I want to know what you think." He demanded.
Midorima tried to mask indifference but with the way the older Akashi is looking at him it was near impossible to do, under those cold and calculating eyes. He felt like he was waiting for an untimely death. Gathering his courage; he is not a coward but be in his shoes and he'll see what others would do, he answers "Akashi did not confide with me Akashi-san." The man said nothing, just continued to study him in the same manner.
Stare.
Without a word Satorou stood and fixed his tie.
"I'm afraid I must go now Shintarou-kun, my apologies for the trouble."
"You are always welcome Akashi-sama." He bowed. After the threshold was closed with a click he let out a relief sigh. 'Damn these Akashi's and their ways' no harm was done. But that was where the doctor was wrong, he did not see how those golden orbs glinted when he walked out the door.
The red haired man can't say that he did not expected the doctors reluctance to say anything, but the visit was necessary. The contact he had did not report to him. Nothing. Someone is messing with the Demon of the businessworld and he did not like that. Things are slightly getting out of hand. He may have given his son a little credit than what he deserve. All because of a girl, he snorted inwardly.
He saw the girl himself and failed to see what his son saw in her to give up such things. The girl was plain, emotionless and too blunt for a woman and her status is nonexistent. A person who is hardly noticed, literally or not is not someone deserving to be an Akashi or to be with an Akashi. At first he was convinced that the girl was hiding something big and important because why would his son be attracted to her? She had to be something. He had the girl investigated and frowned, he found nothing noteworthy of her. Mediocrity. Average. To say he was disappointed on Seijurou's choice was an understatement. His son would be ashamed with such wife and it is a flaw to the Akashi's impeccable image. He decided to do something. One day he cornered the girl and he would never forget how the girl challenged him and questioned his ways when he commanded her to end her folly with his son. The girl got a nerve, he could give her that.
"Please take back what you said." The girl said! Satorou has never been so shocked in his life and she did not stopped there. She continued shocking him in her flat tone,"Akashi-kun is not a puppet to be controlled. He is the one who will decide what he should do or who he chooses to be with. I believe I need to go now Akashi-san." She stood up and bowed. She was implying unspeakable things! Satorou spoke as she was about to leave.
"You are not willing to leave my son are you?" She looked at him head on.
"I will never leave someone I love."
"You are willing to rob off Seijurou's future for what you so called love? If you know him truly like what you'd like to think, then you are aware of his endless potential. To be with you, Seijurou would sacrifice his name, everything he has and will have. Do you think you are worthy of these sacrifices Ms. Kuroko? Never mind answering, you will not even imagine what he will lose. Despite knowing these facts, you still won't leave him?"
I took a second for her to reply, "...Until Akashi-kun wants me by his side, I will not leave."
"Let me tell you that it won't be long, you should save yourself the trouble but you may do as you like while you can." He too made the move to leave the private booth but not before stopping on her side and say "As long as you keep your word that you will leave. Until then." He said loud enough for only Tetsumi to hear.
Seijurou withdraw from the company, his men mysteriously disappeared and he had no choice but to make a move himself. Whoever is messing with him sure had guts, Seijurou or not he'd pay; Akashi vowed, with a high price. No one messes with an Akashi and got out unscathed.
The wedding was already arranged (without Akashi's knowledge of course. It was a surprise! He sadistically insist.) the announcement and invitatons are about to be sent. And because of the girl it was in jeopardy, and he absolutely loathe it when things do not go as planned. He likes to be in control and the unwanted element will be taken care off immediately. He had three weeks before the appointed date, plenty of time. The trip to the doctor has been worth it, with his perfect and overly sharp eyesight and memory just a glance was enough for him to get the information he want. 'It seems like the girls mother is confined in the hospital. If he can't find the cat, he would look for the kittens.
Kuroko's POV
'I feel warm. I snuggled deeper into the source, whatever it was, it was extremely relaxing.
Fullfillment.
Nothing could describe the feeling than that. The feeling of belongingness, the feeling of being loved. A feeling I crave, it's been a while since I felt contented and warm like this. This familiar feeling. What could have given me warmth similar to his? I wonder what?
Memories are flashing as I slowly stir up. Red? I saw red in my blurry vision and I blinked my eyes. I was... I was on top of the warm-giving thing. My head hurts but determined to get to the bottom of things, drowsiness left me and I gasped. That was not a thing! He is indeed in here with me, our limbs tangled and arms draped over each other. Suddenly I was very awake and conscious of our position.
I panicked, and he caught the sight of my panicking eyes. So he was awake, making his hold on me loosen. I immediately sat and picked my clothes quickly as I could, not wanting to expose myself any longer than necessary before running to the comfort of the bathroom making the door slam closed.
Akashi sluggishly sat on the bed before running his hand on his flaming red hair. Fetching pants and shirt from the closet he ran his hands on his face. She was clearly not happy, if her reaction was anything to go by. His mind going haywire from the emotion swirling into him uncontrollably. He sat down on the bed and closed his eyes. He heard a door opening and quiet footsteps drawing far. She was leaving without a word, and it hurt. It hurt so fucking much.
"Your'e cruel Tetsumi." He said quietly, successfully stopping her on her tracks. He opened his eyes to see her frozen frame. Her wrinkled clothes, her barely tamed bed hair, her small back far from his grasp. "You are so cruel" he repeated. "...always leaving me in a mess." she may not have seen the helpless look in his eyes but she could definitely feel it in his voice.
"I told you I love you still and admit it or not I knew you love me too. Damn it! Look at me Tetsumi, I..." 'I don't know what to do anymore'
"You are so full of yourself Akashi-kun." back still turned.
"That I'am.." he honestly and shamelessly admitted. "But how are you going to explain yourself of what happened last night? When you whispered my name, when you called me? God Tetsumi! How are you going to deny that? You love me!" Akashi do not know if it was the aftershock of alcohol talking but he really did feel like shouting. No more plans, no more measured moves, right this moment he will say what he want to say.
A pair of flaming blue eyes pierced his hetero chromatic ones.
"How about you Akashi-kun?" She barely raised her voice but he can tell. She made his way towards him "You could say that so easily but what changed? Nothing and nothing will! Even if I love you or..." she choked "if I believe you love me...", gripping the hem of her clothes, she glared at him hard. "We cannot be together. What happened five years ago will repeat again and this time Tsuji will be hurt too! Tell me! What am I suppose to say!" She was shouting back, her lithe frame is trembling and the once calmed ocean blue was caught in fire. All the suppressed emotions she had is forcing it's way out. She's hurt but saying those words made her breathed a little. Silence ascended.
"I'm scared." if the room wasn't dead quiet Akashi would have not heard the two words her trembling lips formed. "..'m so scared. When you leave again none will be left. None Akashi-kun none..." Akashi's heart broke at the sight knowing he was the reason of those tears, again. "I don't think I could take it a second time. I couldn't trust you with my heart again." she move away from him.
Strong arms captured her in an embrace. The crushing hug shook the tears she was suppressing with her back hit his strong chest. He closed his eyes as his own tears fell. He broke her and in turn he broke himself for it. He did not know what to do and he was called a genius.
"I'm scared too." He confessed still holding her, unwilling to let her go. He don't think he could, he felt like if he did he will finally lose it.
"I don't have any excuses for my sins to you Tetsumi, but believe me when I say it was not intentional. I never dream to hurt you, but it's ironic how I became the one who hurt you the most. I was blinded and was too foolish to realize my mistakes. Contrary to popular belief Akashi Seijurou is not perfect." He managed a small chuckle before he was serious again. He turned her around swiped away the lingering tears in her face before kissing her forehead lovingly. The innocent kiss was full of emotion that she was forced to closed her eyes. Her frame was crushed again against the strong chest that makes her knees weak.
"I'd say I would not hurt you two again but I'd probably would one way or another. But believe me when I say I will never want to. I'm too scared to lose you and our son. It won't be easy, I know. I'd probably cause you more grief and pain but at least now..." He faced her pouring all his emotions into his eyes for her to see. He was never the kind to say mushy things so he poured his heart out. "...I could take full responsibility and you can hit me all you want, push me away however I will never leave you again. I won't let you go again." His grip tightened as if she will disappear.
Her tear stained eyes searched his own and for a moment that feels like a lifetime she nodded.
Tetsumi knew and she understood.
Without as much as hitch they arrived in Tokyo well enough. Completely in pieces. Tsuji was happy, it seems that the trip paid well! His parents are acting comfortably around each other. The tense atmosphere was gone and his mother was finally comfortable enough to offer small smiles upon his father. He was seated on Akashi's car in the backseat and all he had to do was watch, there is nothing he could miss anymore. He was giddy and very excited (if your not Tetsumi you could not tell). Something happened without him looking but he do not mind as long as his parents are getting along well. Akashi dropped them on their house, Tsuji was wordlessly begging him to not go but one look Tetsumi gave him he stopped.
He helped his mother and son to the house, patted Tsuji's hair and smiled at Tetsumi before waving off. They decided to take things one step at a time and Akashi was more than glad. Along with Tetsumi he is starting to heal. It was a surely long walk but he did not mind. They got each other and he won't let anything get in the middle of things. They will eventually talk about things that happened in the past but there is time, and he need to come clean to Tetsumi. But for now Seijurou have to face his own demons. He allowed himself a smirk, he knew terribly well that his father would flip once he had received his resignation letter. He was not the powerless boy he was anymore, he is a fully grown man but his father had overlook certain things in the past. The man believed that after Kuroko left he gave up. That was mistake number one. Two, he thought that he did not know of all his plans, sadly Akashi do not want to continue his line on the so called throne. His father is right though, he is reserved for far greater things and such he do not want a leftover kingdom. He will build his own empire in fact he already had one. He drive his way through Tokyo, He glanced at the tall building of the Akashi corp. Just a couple of blocks away, not too far away from the Akashi corps. Akashi entered a building. Seeing the familiar car the guard need no inspection and immediately opened the gate. Akashi entered the building with ease. He parked his car and went out of the car to enter the building. One of the many guards there put away the sign away from the parking space labeled as VVIP.
