Chapter #13: Too Late?
Tsuna realized that this…was probably the luckiest moment of his life for he and his beloved fiancée are currently curling together on the couch in their room while watching one of their favorite movie after having that very nice dinner she had prepared for him.
There is no paperwork, his troublemaker guardians, or a sadistic tutor that would disturb this precious peaceful moment that he could rarely share with his Kyoko. Their hands were intertwined together as the orange haired beauty snuggled closer towards him, seeking for his warmth.
He is so lucky, he thought as he kissed his fiancée lightly on her forehead.
"Mnn… Tsu-kun…" Kyoko murmured softly as she felt his soft lips pressing against her forehead gently. Recently, it is getting rare for them to get together like this with no one to disturb them. Normally, Tsuna is too busy with his work or they just didn't seem to have the time to see each other due to their positions in the mafia world.
"Have I told you how much I love you recently…?" he whispered into her ear, his hot breath made her shivered as she felt her face burnt up from his sweet talk. She curled herself into a ball in his embrace to avoid the brunette from seeing her blushing red face.
Giving the embarrassed orange haired girl a soft chuckle, Tsuna ruffled her hair softly before he whispered.
"Ne… Kyoko-chan, don't be shy." He embraced her even tighter, loving how he could feel her heartbeat against his. Her sweet scent of strawberry is so intoxicating and addicting. It makes him feels relaxed and calm every time as he knows that his sun will always be there for him.
A blush crept up her cheeks as she shifted slightly. "T-Tsu-kun... I-I can't focus on watching the movie..."
Tsuna chuckled, tilting her chin up to give her a light kiss. She stared up at him, shy and wondering. Before she knew it, he'd managed pinned her down on the comfy sofa and she squeaked in return at the brunette who was nuzzling against her ear.
"T-Tsu-kun!"
"It's fine… because from now on..." Tsuna said with a smile before he leaned in and whispered, his lips just millimeters away from her ear. "I'll make it so that all you think of...is me."
"B-But that's n-not fair…" Kyoko pouted in return as she turned her gaze away, making a light chuckle escape his lips. She is referring about how he'd always managed to make her blush like the same young and naïve girl she once was ten years ago while he himself had changed all these years into a cunning Tsuna who always enjoys teasing her.
Tsuna loves how his fiancée, knowing that she will always blush whenever he talks sweetly to her. He is the only one who could make her like this, and that fact made him feels so special. Kyoko looks so tiny, pure and naïve in his arms now that he feels like he's the big bad wolf while she's the innocent little red riding hood.
"Kyoko…" He muttered her name in a deep tone which sent shivers down her spine. However, when things are just about to get wild, a soft knock echoed in the room and disturbed the peacefulness of the soon-to-be married couple. Tsuna let out a low growl. Who the hell is knocking at the door?! It's already around 2 o'clock past midnight and everyone are supposed to be asleep right now! Who's this person who is just begging to be killed for disturbing his peace?
"A-Ano… did someone just knocked the door…?" Kyoko asked as she pulled herself away from her fiancé's arms, changing back to her 'normal' mode instead of her 'uke' mode.
"It's your imagination, trust me." He muttered and pulled his lover back into his arms. If they ignored the knock, the person at the door would probably go away, thinking they had fallen asleep.
However, another knock was heard before a familiar soft voice called out.
"B-Bossu… K-Kyoko-chan…" both Tsuna and Kyoko immediately looked up at the door when they heard the call.
"A-Are you two asleep already…?" The couple frowned when they could hear the soft sniffing coming from the person outside. Something is wrong with the purple haired illusionist. They could sense it.
Tsuna stood up from the couch and went to open the door. Once he turned the doorknob open, he saw his female mist guardian standing in front of the door. She had a coat wrapped around her shivering body and her eyes were puffy red.
"Chrome / Chrome-chan?" both Tsuna and Kyoko were shocked seeing her in such a fragile state. She is the last person who will ever disturb someone during the night, so it must mean that something had gone wrong between her and a certain pineapple head or a certain skylark.
The purple haired illusionist wanted to say something but she blushed when she saw her boss's brown mane looked even messier than usual, his shirt was already halfway unbuttoned, and Kyoko's night dress looked crumpled too.
Awkward silence…
"U-Uhm...I'm s-s-sorry for disturbing..." Chrome said with her face resembling a tomato but Tsuna and Kyoko grabbed her hand before she could leave.
"W-Wait!" They both screamed in unison.
"I-It's not what you think, C-Chrome!" Tsuna said before he continued while scratching his cheek sheepishly. "... w-well, actually it is..."
Kyoko pouted with a blush and stepped on his feet, making him yelp from the pain while she muttered in a hush tone "Tsu-kun! Just keep quiet and button up already!"
Tsuna frowned, muttering in a low tone. "…In the first place, you were the one who-"
Kyoko gave him a warning look. "Tsu-kun…Not now."
Tsuna shivered. No one likes it when the lady of Vongola is mad. The brunette looked like he wanted to cry. (Tsuna: I want my Kyoko-chan back...~!)
"C-Chrome-chan, w-what brings you here at this hour?" Kyoko asked, turning her attention back to the blushing red illusionist as she fixed a smile on her face.
"Ano… am I disturbing you two…?" she asked out in a low tone as she could sense the romantic atmosphere that had been ruined by her. Tsuna and Kyoko blushed heavily but before they could reply, Chrome looked down as she muttered out an apology. "I-I'm sorry… I'll leave now."
However, when she was about to leave, two hands grabbed her forearms firmly once again before the couple said in unison.
"No! You are coming with us!" Tsuna and Kyoko exclaimed before dragging the purple haired girl into their room.
"I-I'm very sorry, Bossu…" Chrome muttered once again when her boss and best friend led her into their room. Tsuna is now in a panic state since he didn't know what he should do with his mist guardian looking so moody…which is why he is so glad that at least his fiancée is here with him to comfort the seemingly broken illusionist. Kyoko came back from the small kitchen and handed her best friend a glass of icy cold water. She took a seat next to Chrome on the couch as she placed her hand on the other's shoulder.
"Chrome-chan, did something happen? You can always talk to me if you want to..." Kyoko asked gently, patting her friend comfortingly on her back.
Chrome bit on her own lip and let one last hiccup escape from her lips before she threw herself into Kyoko's arms, sniffing as she tried to hold back her tears. All Kyoko could do was whispering soft comforts as she wrapped her arms around the younger girl.
"There, there… I won't know what happened if you don't say anything to me, Chrome-chan. Please tell me what happened." Chrome didn't say anything as her hands gripped tightly around Kyoko's night gown desperately. Tsuna who had been walking around his room while watching the two girls couldn't contain himself anymore.
"… What did Mukuro do?" Tsuna sounded furious as he finally voiced out after being the watcher of the two girls just a moment ago. He somewhat can feel that it was Mukuro who had done something to upset Chrome and nobody, not even his own guardians could ever upsets Chrome who is like a younger sister to him.
"B-Bossu… please calm down…" Chrome mumbled as she looked at her boss pleadingly. She knew that if she didn't stop the older brunette now, he might dash out of the room and yelled at her ex-master for explanation.
"Chrome…" Tsuna looked at the purple haired illusionist before he continued. "How can you tell me to 'please calm down' when you suddenly appeared right in front of my door, looked all broken and almost crying out? I may not be the smartest man, but I know what kind of situation you're facing right now!" he nearly yelled out in frustration as he slammed his fist at the nearest reading desk.
"Tsu-kun!" Kyoko called out in a warning tone. Chrome was already in a bad shape, and she didn't want her fiancé to make the situation even worse now. Tsuna sighed as he ran one of his hands through his hair that resembled a lion's thick mane.
"I went to apologize to Kyoya for not being able to reply his feelings for me… b-but Mukuro-sama thought that I loved Kyoya… I… I tried to explain to him… but he got so mad and hurt that he attacked Kyoya! I was furious at him afterwards as he'd hurt Kyoya… " A single tear dripped down from her violet hue. "It was my fault… it was my fault for not explaining everything to him and letting him leave with a broken heart once again… but now I'm worried over Kyoya's safety as well…"
Kyoko gave out a gasp in surprise. Hibari likes Chrome? Well, of course both of them are very close to each other and they might make a nice pair… but still… it surprised her as she had not once see Hibari showing such feelings of affection to any girl before.
"Chrome… would you mind explaining everything to me?" Tsuna asked as calm as he could manage, but it wasn't much though.
The purple haired illusionist loosened her grip around the older girl's nightgown before she took a deep breath and stared down at the floor.
"Kufufu… have I come at the wrong time and disturbed your sweet, sweet time with my Chrome, Hibari Kyoya?" Mukuro asked monstrously, looking at the pair on the floor from his spot.
Chrome was surprised and her eyes widened when she saw Mukuro, though she noticed that his usual smirk seemed bitter.
"M-Mukuro-sama! It's—I-I wasn't…" A lump was stuck in her throat as she tried explained it all to the male illusionist. But if she did say that it was all a misunderstanding…then Kyoya would be hurt…!
Her hands trembled as she gripped on the hem of her skirt, her head hung low as she couldn't make her choice. Suddenly, she found a warmth wrapping around one of her clenched fist and tilted her head at the skylark. He was worried.
"If I do love her...what can you do, herbivore?"
Both illusionists looked at the skylark in surprise as it's the first time he'd ever said something like that aloud. Mukuro frowned bitterly as his grip around the metallic trident that had just form in his hand tightened.
"Whom she would choose at this time should be none of your business. Forcing her to pity you won't mean that she will fall in love with you." The skylark continued, noticing how his rival was now gritting his teeth. "I will never allow you to have her… if you continue acting as if you are just fooling around. I'll bite you to death… if you can't even believe her although she'd tried to explain herself."
"Kufufu… are you trying to tell me that she would choose you instead, Hibari Kyoya…?" Mukuro asked bitterly, his anger is about to reach its limit. The skylark shrugged his shoulder, before he slowly said.
"It doesn't matter who she chose. Because… at least I'm not a coward who can only make her cry from time to time."
Mukuro's eyes glowed in rage and hatred as he slammed his trident on the floor. All of a sudden, the floor suddenly started to shake and trembled terribly, forcing both Hibari and Chrome to stumble and fall on the hard cement floor. Mukuro's red orb glowed and three horizontal lines appeared. The kanji of 'three': The Realm of the Beasts
Snakes suddenly flew out from the cracked floor and attacked the raven-haired ex-prefect. Hibari tried to slash them down, but even if he does, those snakes would just form into two once he sliced them. He let out a pained grunt when one of those snakes managed to catch him off guard and bit him on his right arm.
Hibari managed to swing the snake away before he stumbled backward with his arm bleeding badly. He gritted his teeth as he narrowed his steel-grey eyes at his attacker before him.
But Mukuro didn't stop his attacks. The snakes lunged towards to attack Hibari once again as the ex-prefect immediately swung his tonfas right in front of himself as a shield. He lunged himself towards the blue illusionist, however, just when his tonfa could hit the pineapple-haired man…
CLANG!
Sounds of metal clashing echoed through the room and Hibari widened his eyes to see Chrome holding her trident right in front of him. She looked at Hibari with a pained and worried expression before turning her attention towards his right arm.
"You are injured…." She muttered, lowering down her weapon as she lifted her hand to gently touched his right arm, making Hibari flinched slightly in pain, but it didn't make him failed to notice how teary her eyes were.
He knew she was feeling guilty as she was just right in front of them. Yet…she couldn't even protect him from getting injured.
"Kyoya… enough…" she whispered softly, her small figure slightly shivering.
That was all he remembered before she skillfully delivered a blow at the back of his neck without him noticing and everything turned into darkness.
Both illusionists stayed in silence. Chrome was too furious yet at the same time, confused that she seriously wanted some time alone to herself. Then again, she also needed to make everything clear for Mukuro so that the misunderstanding between them can be settled.
"Was it… really just a misunderstanding?" Mukuro finally asked after a few minutes of awkward silence.
Chrome tilted her head and took a deep breath. "Y-yes! Kyoya and I weren't doing what you were thinking of! He was just comforting me just now because I'm feeling down and…"
Mukuro had stopped listened, as it's too much for him. He knew he might be called as childish for attacking the skylark due to his jealousy over how close he was with his Nagi, but now, he just can't help but felt anger and disappointment swelling up deep inside himself as it seems like Chrome favoured Hibari more so than she does for him.
"… Do you even love me?" he mumbled out softly, making the purple haired girl stopped her mumbling before looking up at him in surprise.
"H-Huh?" she didn't quite understand what he's trying to tell her before the other illusionist gaze at her with a cold look.
"I said…" his voice sounded emotionless, yet hints of pain could be heard in his voice as well, "Do you love me? Or were you only acting because you pity me and felt sorry for me?"
"… Acting…?" she realized what he was trying to imply to her. She bit on her lips as she can't believe he had just asked her such a ridiculous question. "Are you doubting my feelings for you?"
He saw how shocked she was, yet it didn't stop the one single hurtful word that slipped out from his mouth. "… Yes…"
She didn't even know what to say after hearing his reply, really. Who does he think she was? Does he really think that she's such a cheap woman? She frowned, holding back her anger before she slowly took a few deep breaths.
"You don't even need me to say it aloud, do you? You do know how I felt for you-"
"But I'm not that sure over myself and your feelings already." The atmosphere around them felt so cold. Mukuro didn't even seems to care about her feelings any longer as he had lost control over himself, hurting her with those words that seemed like poisonous needles pricking her entire being, slowly killing her.
"What are you talking about? Kyoya is just a very close friend of mine, and I…!" she tried to explain once again, yet Mukuro cut her off as he continued to speak.
"You still called me 'Mukuro-sama' when you are already calling him by his first name. See the difference?" he took a step closer towards her. The fury and jealousy he was currently feeling was something that he rarely felt in his life. Who did she think she is, to play around his feelings like it was nothing but a game?
"Mukuro-sama… just calm down and listen to me…" she tried so hard not to let those those tears escaped from her eyes. She wanted to explain to him so desperately, yet every time she tried, he just wouldn't listen to her and just hurt her even deeper than before.
"Calm down? Kufufu~ why must I listen to you when I know that everything you had done are just your sympathy towards me? I'm not falling for it again even if you cry, Chrome. But you are smart. Really, really smart." He laughed humourlessly. His mind wasn't working right now as he was just saying things out of frustration. He never meant to say those hurtful words to her, but he was feeling alone… betrayed… and unloved… "I guess the Nagi I know really had died. My Nagi is supposed to be naïve, innocent and pure like an untouched, precious treasure. Yet… you are completely different."
"Would you just stop talking nonsense and listen to me-"
"And I believe you aren't exactly a virgin now. You probably had slept with the skylark already, am I right?"
Shock and disbelief filled her pair purple hues and her hand wasn't listening to her orders as she raised her hand up and…
SLAP!
The loud sound echoed through his ear, before he felt the pain slowly forming on his left cheek.
It was already the third time she had slapped him, yet this time, it hurts him even more than the first two times she did. He may have been hit harder during his life for sure but the weight of her hitting him was the greatest he had ever felt. The only time she had harmed him was during the reunion whence he had kissed her without her permission, which she never intended to as she had believed that he had cruelly abandoned her.
"… Get out." A trembling whisper managed to escape from the purple haired illusionist's lips. Her bangs covered her eyes, not allowing the other to see her teary eyes.
"Pardon?" he raised his left brow as he swore that he must have heard her wrong. She didn't really just…
"I said, get out from my room!" this time, Chrome's voice was even louder and filled with hatred and anger. She pointed her finger at the oak door right behind Mukuro before she said once again in a deadly serious tone. "Get out of this place. I don't want to see your face."
Mukuro didn't move, as he was mostly in shock and stunned when a droplet of Chrome's tear was seen dripping from her cheek.
"OUT!" she screamed out once again before the floor suddenly cracked and fire gushed out from it up to the thin air. Mukuro had to jump back before the flame burnt him and he hissed out when pain strikes through his right cheek this time. He glanced to his right and widened his eyes in surprise at seeing a real illusion metallic dagger stabbed on the wall.
"I did not deserved those words when I didn't do anything wrong!" she exclaimed as her illusions were pushing him towards the door. When he was finally at the hallway, the latest dagger nearly stabbed him through his head before all her illusions dissipated into thin air.
"I may not be the same, naïve Chrome that you used to know… but I had loved you from the very first moment we met! Even when you had been treating me as a tool and fooled around with my feelings for you, I always believed…that one day, you will realize my feelings for you! I apologize for never really confessing my feelings for you up 'till now, but that still doesn't mean that you can insult me like that!" she was yelling at the top of her lungs. She didn't even bother it if the workers or even the other guardians might hear her yellling.
Mukuro was speechless. She had loved him? All along? He always knew that she had a crush for him…but love?
"I had been wounded deeply all these years… both physically and mentally thanks to all those misunderstanding between us! There were times when I feel like I don't even want to live in this cruel world anymore. But every time I try to commit suicide, Kyoya was there to stop me from doing so! Of course I felt only grateful towards him! You seriously never realized… that all these years, despite those injuries you had caused for me, I still love you..." she choked on her tears before she continued. "But now, you and I are done! Forget about everything that concerns me….I never want to see you again for the rest of my life!"
She entered her room once again before slamming the oak door closed with a loud 'BANG!'.
Mukuro was there, on the floor, in a speechless and confused state. It was when a certain ex-Arcobaleno walked past him with a cup of espresso in his hand did he seemed to snap out of it. Reborn sighed when he saw Mukuro before taking a sip of his coffee nonchalantly.
"I'm impressed how much you can screw things up, pineapple."
"I… I said those awful and shameless things to him!" Chrome nearly screamed out as she wrapped her arms around her shivering shoulders, streaks of tears wetting her pale cheeks. Both Kyoko and Tsuna were surprised to hear of the female illusionist's actions. She would never have any intention of killing another person for no reason. However, from the way how she had just explained to them, it felt as if she really was going to kill Mukuro if he wasn't skillful enough to dodge all her illusion attacks.
"I told him…" she hesitated for a moment before she continued. "I confessed to him about how much I loved him…" she whispered softly, her tears draining her face. "B-But it shouldn't have ended up like this…"
Kyoko smiled lightly knowing this. No girl would want to confess their feelings for their loved ones in such way. She wrapped her arms around Chrome once again, giving her the comfort she needed.
"Don't worry, Chrome-chan…." Kyoko said, gently ruffling the other girl's purple locks as if she was a motherly figure for the illusionist. "I'm sure everything will be okay. He will realize how wrong he is and how much he shouldn't have said those mean words to you."
"K-Kyoko-chan thinks so…?" Chrome asked, looking up at the older girl as she dried up her tears. "Because I believe I've just told him I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore… a-and I don't want to see him again…" she murmured lowly, fumbling with her fingers as those guilty feelings kept pricking her deep inside.
"If anything…" Kyoko tried so hard not to let the single scowl to form on the sweet smile of her lips. She won't want Chrome to felt even worse 'cause she swear that she's going to curse the pineapple guy to death for hurting and humiliating her friend like that. "Mukuro-kun is the responsible for all this. He will come back soon and apologize to you. Trust me." Kyoko's hand squeezed Chrome's tightly in confidence.
"Still, can I go out and at least ask him for some explanation?" Tsuna asked, massaging his shoulders and cracked his knuckles, a sickly sweet smile presented on his face as a dark aura spread around him. "… then we can have some pineapple salad or pineapple pie during breakfast."
"N-No! Please don't, bossu!" Chrome quickly said. "M-Mukuro-sama haven't recovered from his injuries… p-perhaps he's stressed up, that's why he said those mean words he didn't mean to say..."
"But that still doesn't make me pity him for all those insults he had spat to you. Thinking back, I believe he deserved to be nearly killed by you." Tsuna murmured out, but it was loud enough for the illusionist to hear it. Chrome lowered her head as the gloomy aura around her become even thicker. Kyoko immediately shot the brunette a dead glare while Tsuna gulped, cursing his stupid mouth.
"A-Ano… Chrome, what I meant is…"
"Chrome-chan, Mukuro-kun is just probably feeling jealous 'cause you favored Hibari-san more than him. You know, men do stupid things all the times…" Tsuna winced as those words seemed as if Kyoko meant it for him too. "… but then… that's how they show their love to us. So, don't worry, he will be back and apologize for his rudeness soon."
The orange haired girl smiled for one last time before hugging Chrome tightly. "You will always have my shoulder to cry, Chrome-chan. I'm really happy that you came to me for comfort. It makes me feel special."
Chrome smiled for the first time ever since the night as she squeezed tightly in Kyoko's embrace, the lady of vongola giving a light giggle in return. A faint blush form on her pale cheeks as she nodded her head before she got up and pulled herself away from the older girl's arms.
"Ano… I'll need to go and check Kyoya's condition now." Using the sleeves of her coat, Chrome lightly rubbed her tears away. She smiled at both her boss and best friend for the last time before she twisted the doorknob and walked out, but not before bowing politely and muttering a soft 'thank you' to the two whom she secretly regarded as her older brother and sister.
Once the door closed right in front of the couple, Kyoko turned her attention back to her fiancé who was scratching the back of his neck, trying to avoid his lover's stare. "You know, Tsu-kun…I never realized you are such a bad comforter.
"W-Well…" Tsuna smiled nervously. "It's because Kyoko-chan is always here comforting the others before I do. Besides… the sun always helps the sky to illuminate everything… right…?" he murmured, a faint blush formed on his cheek.
"Well, I know that now." Kyoko slightly giggled before wrapping her arms around Tsuna's neck. "You depend on me too much, my 'sky'."
The brunette's blush deepened as she called him with that nickname while his lover merely giggled in return.
"Geez… you men are all just the same. Saying sweet nothing and thinking that it could catch a girl's heart just like that." She said with a light 'hmph!', though the smile was still on her lips.
"Well… it works on you."He smirked lightly as he gently ran his fingers through her streaming orange locks before kissing her on her lips softly.
"The nurse told you to stay on bed, didn't she?" Chrome frowned lightly as she eyed the skylark who is now struggling to get out of her grip. But of course, since his right arm is bandaged, Chrome is much more stronger than him even if he always sees her as a 'little animal'.
"… Have you been crying?" Hibari asked out of the blue, stopping his struggles when he saw her red eyes. The purple haired girl widened her eyes in shock, before she muttered in a low tone.
"It's nothing…"
She looked really down, and it hurts Hibari more so than he thought. Sighing, the skylark placed his hand on her cheek.
"Chrome." He looked at her, brows furrowed but after years of being with him, she knew he was trying to apologize from his behaviour.
"What are you trying to apologize for Kyoya?" His lips became grim.
"I will never force you to be with me. Even if he is the one you choose..." His hand moved over her head, patting her gently, which also blocked her from seeing his expression.
"I'll always be with you... to catch your tears." Chrome was surprised but when the hand was gone, the skylark was already settling himself back on his bed.
"Kyoya…" the mist guardian called. And even though the other didn't reply her, she knew he was listening. Leaning forward, she kissed him on his forehead and looked at him with a smile.
"Thank you… you'll always hold a place in my heart."
A small smile formed on his lips as she walked out of the room.
Her words will always be engraved in his mind and heart forever.
Chrome gazed at the starry night. A pillow was hold firmly against her chest as the bright moon illuminated her purple hues, making her look all the more fragile and weak like her younger self years ago. She grabbed one of the yellowish envelopes from the torn bag on her desk before she opened it, purple hues scanning the contents of the letters. He had casted a spell on those letters to make sure she was the only one who can read them.
She read on the letter, recognizing the familiar, neat and orderly handwriting as if it was her own. She held a breath, hot tears dripped down from her violet hues before falling onto the letter, blurring the words in an instant.
Setting the letter down on her desk, she finally let her tears flow down freely. How long… had she held back all these feelings…? How long… had she held back her tears and tried to act strong in front of everyone when in truth… she was still nothing but the same fragile girl deep inside…?
The windy night breeze from her opened window caused the letter to lightly flutter to the ground, clearly forgotten by the purple haired illusionist.
...
This will be the last letter I will write for you. I'll be out from the Vindiche prison soon. I'll be back in only another three weeks. And I can't even wait for one more minute to see you again. These ten years had been so agonizing, but I can't help but be a little proud of myself as I've survived it all. I know you might be furious at me for all these years, but you have to understand that I'm doing all these… just for you. I've been locked in here, all alone… without you… or anyone. But I do these… all for YOU. I will pour in all my effort so that I can continue being with you.
Because during all these years, I realized how much you meant in my life.
I love you.
Mukuro was staring at the oak door right in front of him, with his hands stuffed in his pocket. He had been standing there for almost an hour. And all he's doing was just… staring while wrecking his mind to find a way to make Chrome forgive him.
Well, what should he say? What can a man say when you accuse your… 'woman' to be sleeping with your rival when she was already showing to really loves you (and not for sympathy)?
See why he was just standing there dumbly? He had just perfectly screwed up everything.
It had just been a night ever since the whole disaster. Right now, standing right in front of the very same hallway Chrome had just nearly killed him in and yelling out all those things he deserved to hear, he was wrecking his intelligent brain for a way to make his Chrome forgive him because he had just realized how right she was.
"Ara? You're still here?" two voices asked in unison behind him. Turning around, Mukuro saw both Kyoko and Haru standing right in front of him. The orange haired Vongola lady was holding a tray filled with breakfast while the other was holding a tray with a jug of water and some pills he assumed as painkillers.
"Let me guess… did Chrome-chan open the door when you knocked…" The orange head said innocently, her typical smile holding a tinged of coldness as she now stood before him…not as the warm Kyoko Sasagawa, but as the lady of Vongola and more importantly, Chrome's friend.
"But when she saw you….she slammed the door right on your face?" The orange haired girl said. She couldn't forgive anyone who hurts the girl she'd regarded as her own sister…and she was sure Tsuna would do worse to the pineapple illusionist anyway.
"Hahi! Kyoko-chan!" Haru squealed but had a hidden grin on her face as she agreed with the orange haired girl.
Twitch.
That Vongola woman sure has some guts to ask him such a question with that 'oh-so-innocent' tone of hers.
"Kufufu…" Mukuro laughed in a sickly sweet tone, a vein popped on his forehead but he tried to calm himself down from the girl's insult. "That's really thoughtful of you, Sasagawa Kyoko. But for your information, I haven't even knocked on her door… yet."
Kyoko just shrug her shoulders to show that she had no interest what he's attempting to do. The two girls walked past the male illusionist without a care before Haru knocked on the door lightly, calling out for the meek guardian.
"Chrome-chan! Haru and Kyoko-chan brought breakfast for you, desu! Please open the door!" they waited for a few seconds, but there was no response. Kyoko raised her brow as she knocked the door this time.
"Chrome-chan! It's me, Kyoko! Are you alright?" Kyoko said with a frown tugging on her lips as she grew worried for the illusionist.
Mukuro stared at them and turned around, ready to leave since he knew Chrome won't want to see his face now. However, he stopped when he smelt something. He quickly turned around, his eyes widened in shock at the familiar metallic scent that can only mean one thing…
"Move!" he lightly pushed both the girls away before twisting the doorknob, hoping it's opened. He had been standing here for nearly an hour, yet he didn't smelt anything 'till just now! This can only mean one thing…
"Something is wrong with her…" He turned around to say to the two girls. "Go call the others while I try to open this darn door!" he ordered them, and Kyoko seemed to pick up the alarm in his voice as she nodded and both placed their trays on the floor to call up the other guardians as fast as they could.
"Chrome! Open up or I'm going to break in!" when he finished saying so, he raised his leg and immediately kicked the door off, sending it flying away.
When he stepped in, he smelt the familiar scent that can only be the scent of blood filling the room. His eyes couldn't believe what he was currently seeing right in front of him.
Chrome's room is in a mess. Papers scattering around the room, flying everywhere since the window was open. But what made fear creeping up his very being was seeing those blood splattered everywhere as if a fight had just occurred.
He stood in front of her messy desk and stopped on his tracks when he noticed a velvety, neatly folded note lying perfectly on the desk. His sixth sense nudged him to examine the piece of folded paper and he did so.
A scowl formed on his face as he recognized the familiar cursive handwriting at the front. It was similar to a certain person's handwriting. He flipped the note open with a worried feeling gushing at him.
'You should have protect her even more~'
It ended with a playful tone. There's only a very simple and short sentence written on the paper in Italian, and that's all the blue haired illusionist needed to know.
That he shouldn't have make her cried and leave her alone, no matter how much she hated him that time. But now… everything is too late. She'd been stolen away from him.
To be continued.
Ending note: O-ho! Cliff-hanger! OvO Mwahahaha~ I love making my readers going all curious over the next chapter so be hold since I'm a sadistic writer! Mwahahaha~ XD Between, I'll be paying most of my attention on this story; 'Never Again' since it's about to reach its end already. :D But don't worry, I've a new plot for my next 6996 series story already.
