Dana had never been nervous before.
Perhaps she'd been a little tense when something hadn't went as planned when she was thirteen years old. But she had never felt her stomach roll as it was now. Her fingers tapped anxiously on the kitchen table as she stared off at the clock, watching time slowly pass by.
It was one minute from two o'clock.
Inside she was hoping Kol wouldn't show. She figured it would be best for everybody if he didn't. However Kol didn't strike her as someone who gave up easily.
"Will you stop that blasted tapping?" Stacey's voice reached from the living room.
Dana's fingers ceased tapping at the table, one eyebrow arching upwards . She'd always known people in her family had fairly sharp hearing, they had to for what they did, but she hadn't expected it from her grandmother.
Just then the doorbell rang, easily reaching her ears. She heard her gran shuffling around in the living room to get to the door. But Dana wasn't going to allow that, she wouldn't give Kol the opportunity to get so close to her grandmother. In just a second she'd stood from her place at the table and then she was standing at the door, just a few feet in front of Stacey.
"I've got it." She offered helpfully with a smile over her shoulder.
Stacey rolled her eyes and Dana expected her to amble off to continue her knitting, but she kept her feet planted firmly right where they were.
An inaudible sigh brushed between Dana's lips as she opened the door to see Kol standing there. His brown hair was tousled as if he'd just rolled out of bed and a smug smirk seemed to tug just at the corners of his mouth.
"Right on time." Dana greeted in a wry tone that she figured wouldn't escape Kol's notice.
"I suppose you could say I was looking forward to seeing you again." Kol's almost smirk turned into a full smirk, one that seemed to be filled to the brim with haughtiness he wasn't afraid of hide.
"Dana." Gran's voice seemed to hold a warning, even as Dana attempted to shift into a position that would better block her view of Kol. Still, nothing ever seemed to escape Stacey, no matter what.
"Don't worry Gran. Kol and I are just going out to…" She hesitated then because she didn't exactly know what they were going to do.
"Just for a picnic in the park." Kol offered in a way that seemed to come off as pleasant, but Dana had been trained to know better. Especially with people like Kol Mikaelson.
Stacey trained a firm stare on Dana, one that told her she'd have to endure a lecture when she got home later. "I'd advise you to have her back before eight tonight."
Dana winced when she heard Stacey's newly appointed curfew. Eight o'clock seemed like a bit much to Dana, the girl who'd never really had a curfew before now. However, if her grandmother wanted her home by eight then that was when she'd be home. Unless Dana wanted to face the consequences of disobedience.
She slipped out of the front door, throwing one last goodbye to Stacey over her shoulder as she shut the door behind her. Her gaze instantly caught the black Ferrari now sitting in the driveway of Stacey's house, one that looked rather new.
"Nice car." Dana stated, a wry tone lacing the edges of her voice as she walked towards the passenger side. Nice. She'd figured Kol was loaded with money, especially as old as he was. One day perhaps it would be her who was able to afford such luxuries, but now she knew she was much better off living with her grandmother.
"I know." Kol responded casually as he swung himself into the driver's seat.
So not only was he obviously a maniac, but he was an egomaniac too. Great, Dana thought as she slid in the car, Of course I have to catch the attention of him. I should have just kept my fangs to myself that night and I wouldn't be in this situation.
Dana leaned her head against the window of the car as Kol drove, watching the surroundings fly by. She said not a word. Instead she mulled over the fact that she was riding with someone who evidently had expensive taste. She glanced over at him, noting the dark jeans with stress marks, the expensive looking button up shirt, the Rolex watch that decorated his left wrist.
Soon enough they reached the park he'd apparently been serious about going to. Dana climbed out of the car, her eyes surveying the area with a watchfulness that came with years of practice. Then she spotted Kol actually pulling a basket out of the trunk of the car, much to her surprise.
"Follow me," he commanded, jerking his head towards the direction he apparently wanted to go.
Dana grumbled under her breath as she trailed after Kol, stuffing her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket. On the way they passed by several people, some couples, and even young children running about and playing.
A smirk curled a corner of Dana's lips. It still amazed her to this day how oblivious most humans were. They had no idea what or who walked among them. If the two of them wanted, Kol and Dana could massacre every individual human being in the park and there was nothing anybody could do about it.
Well, maybe there were a few people who had a few tricks up their sleeves.
Dana realized Kol had stopped walking and almost rammed right into his back. She abruptly pulled herself to a stop, blinking at the now spread out blanket with the picnic basket and Kol sitting on top.
This was way too weird for her.
Instead of saying anything she sat herself down, legs crossed out in front of herself. "So, why am I here again?"
"To entertain me," Kol said, smirking over at Dana who rolled her eyes.
"I'm not some toy you can play with."
"I wouldn't be quite so sure."
Dana's eyes snapped over to the Original, watching as he poured himself a glass from a wine bottle. Her eyebrow rose high when the scent of blood reached her nose. He tilted the glass to his lips, eyes scanning over the people wandering around the park.
"What brought you to Mystic Falls?" Kol suddenly asked, looking over at Dana with a strange glint in his eyes.
Dana looked over at him. She didn't like the way he was looking at her. She also hated the fact that he could get his answer if he wanted to. "What's it to you?"
Kol's eyes narrowed. Dana could sense the irritation that seemed to roll off of him in waves. Evidently this vampire had a short temper and she already knew he wasn't one to be trifled with.
Their eyes met.
"Kill that girl over there," Kol demanded, lazily gesturing towards a girl sitting underneath a tree.
Before Dana realized what she was doing, she had already flashed over to the girl, jerking the surprised human up by the neck and slamming her back against the tree. The girl's head bounced backwards and off the trunk. She let out a yelp of surprise, but before she could make another noise Dana snapped the girl's neck.
The brunette girl fell limp and Dana allowed her body to crumple to the ground. Then she was back by Kol's side, staring down at him angrily.
"What the hell was that about?" She seethed, hands curling into tight fists.
He raised an eyebrow at the clearly infuriated girl. He vaguely recalled Beckah once telling him to never anger a woman, because an angry woman would be the end of him if he wasn't careful. However, Dana was the last girl he found himself worried about.
"Today can go two ways. The two of us can have a nice little chat, or you can go about murdering innocent people," Kol explained, that same mischievous glint from before dancing in his dark eyes.
Dana's jaw tightened. Her eyes narrowed and she forced herself to sit back down, flexing her hands as she fixated her gaze on the Original vampire. "Fine," she spat out.
Kol seemed pleased with himself as he stretched his legs out in front of him. He took a moment to make himself comfortable, leaning back against his elbows. Dana waited until he finally glanced back over at her.
"Now, answer my question."
"I came to Mystic Falls because it's safe here."
Kol nearly laughed.
This silly girl thought that Mystic Falls was safe. Home to witches, vampires, and now the Originals? From what Kol heard Mystic Falls always had something going on, normally revolving around the Salvatore brothers and the Gilbert girl.
But instead of questioning her further about her stupid assumptions, he instead said with a certain smugness, "Killing runs through your blood."
Dana cut her eyes towards him, narrowing her lids until they were slits. "No it's not."
"It is, I can tell."
"Sure," then Dana snorted, clearly amused.
"The girls neck was a clean snap, and the man the other night. You didn't even make a mess, something younger vampires tend to have a problem with. You don't move like a normal vampire either."
Dana stared at him, her mouth open. How could he gather anything from that? How did he even know she'd cleanly snapped the girls neck? It wasn't entirely difficult for a vampire to kill someone by snapping their neck anyway. And Dana knew several younger vampires who could drink from a human without making a mess. It just took practice.
However, Dana didn't respond. Instead she allowed her eyes to travel elsewhere, and Kol didn't miss the guilt that flashed in the girl's eyes she did, which just further proved his point.
*tries laughing*
So yeah it's been a while since I updated this. ACTUALLY I question now if I have any readers, but I'm going for this anyway.
You get to see more of Dana in this chapter, killing, telling Kol about herself. Kol forces her to kill an innocent girl.
You may also notice that I took the "Kol/OC" off. Because I may be changing directions with this fic. Nothing too dramatic, just something I can use to better develop Dana's character and etc. *ahem* anyway xD
