Kol was at her doorstep the next day.
Dana knew she shouldn't have even answered the door when she heard the doorbell ring. She should have let her grandmother answer, or just let Kol stand outside until he finally understood that she wasn't coming out.
Unfortunately that wasn't the case, and her grandmother had decided to not even make an appearance that entire afternoon. So that left Dana to answer the door only to find Kol dressed as nicely as he had been the day before. Not that that came as a surprise to her. There was a slight air of arrogance surrounding him, something that Dana couldn't decide whether or not it irked her.
"What?" She knew she may have come off as rude, but at the moment she couldn't find it in herself to care. Granted, she knew she could have went with her first idea of not answering the door, but that would have gotten her nowhere with the exception of an agitated Original.
Kol's eyebrow arched upwards, "Someone has their knickers in a twist today."
Oh, how Dana wished it were safe for her to punch the Original vampire's lights out. Or plunge a stake through his heart. At that moment she was have settled for either choice. Instead she leaned against the doorframe, just out of reach to where he wouldn't be able to cross the threshold to get to her. She had just enough distance between the two of them to where it was safe enough for her to smart off to him as she pleased.
"Not going to invite me in?" He asked coyly, a smirk playing on his lips.
Dana snorted, unattractively so, and she even caught the way Kol rolled his eyes when she did. She didn't really care what he thought though. "Good luck getting my grandmother to let you in." They both knew if it were just Dana living here he wouldn't have to be invited in. That, however, wasn't the case. "Why are you here anyway?"
"I heard they found a couple of dead teenagers in the woods," he stated in a bored manner, copying Dana's movements of leaning his shoulder against the outside doorway, appearing much more relaxed than the younger vampire did.
Dana's eyes widened. Then a scowl set on her face and she brushed past Kol, growling low under her breath as she pulled the door shut and asked, "What do you want?"
A bright grin lit Kol's face up and soon he was strolling ahead of Dana and towards the sleek sports car he drove. "Just something to do."
"And how am I supposed to help with that?" Dana's voice fell flat as hesitated before the car. Kol gestured for her to go ahead and get into the car. So she did, not even bothering to buckle herself.
Kol swung into the driver's seat, that same smug smile gracing his lips, "You have no idea how dull it is being around my family right now. Doppleganger this, hybrid that."
Dana quickly reminded him that she had no idea what he was talking about, neither did she particularly care. Then she informed him that she also didn't know his family and assured him that they couldn't be that bad.
Kol simply laughed.
She almost mentioned her family. That would give him something to compare to. She changed her mind though, figuring that Kol had had to deal with his family way longer than she had her. He had who knew how long when compared to her.
Dana didn't even ask where they were going. She leaned her head back against the head rest, eyes fluttering shut for a moment. Her grandmother was going to be so pissed if she discovered Dana was at fault for the deaths of the five teenagers. Dana, however, couldn't quite find it in herself to care if she had angered the old woman.
Coming to Mystic Falls almost felt to Dana like she had returned to her family. Since arriving she had been constantly restrained by Stacey, even more so than her own family had. She had little she could do without constantly being criticized and reprimanded for.
She pulled her cell phone out, glancing at the numerous texts she had. One was from Matt, saying that he hadn't seen her around the Grill in a while. Then there was a text from a number she didn't recognize.
She ran her eyes over the message that had been sent. A warning. One that could have cost the sender's life if it were to be discovered that they had sent it. Dana drew in a deep breath. She wasn't going to run anymore. If they came to Mystic Falls she would leave dealing with them up to the Originals and the other numerous supernaturals residing in town.
Dana slid the phone into her pocket. It was then that she realized they'd arrived at what she easily recognized as the Mikaelson home, the one she'd attended the ball at. She glanced over at Kol, confusion written across her face.
"I thought being around your family was dull," She pointed out flatly.
"Luckily they're out at the moment," he explained with that same arrogant grin that Dana figured she may as well get used to seeing.
Dana grumbled under her breath as she got out of the car after he'd parked, dutifully following the Original vampire up the front stairs. The inside of the mansion was just as grand as she remembered, except now she was able to appreciate the grandeur with the lack of people occupying the house.
Dana continued trailing after Kol, her eyes surveying the area as she was used to doing. Checking for any and every possible exit, something that had become habit for her when she was just a child.
"Hey," Dana paused in her treks as they passed by an open door, "What's this?" She peered in the room, amazed by the canvases scattered across the room. Some where covered, others weren't. There were magnificent paintings, even drawings that had been discarded on the floor.
"My brother's art room," Kol explained, pausing to throw a quick look over his shoulder, then gesturing with his fingers for her to continue following.
Dana huffed, moving away from the room filled with beautiful art. She made a note to try and go back later on if she could to get a good look around. She had always been one to appreciate art and all things beautiful. Perhaps that had been what she had found so enticing about vampires, the eternal beauty that they seemed to possess. Now that she was a vampire she could appreciate beautiful things a hundred times more than she had before.
"How do you feel about pool?"
Dana started at Kol's question, shooting him a quizzical look as he turned into what appeared to be a den of sorts. There was a pool table and other various things meant to entertain. A television, a shelf filled with books, gaming systems, and so much more.
"I've never played before."
"You've never played pool before?" Kol asked, raising an eyebrow in surprise. True, he'd only played a few times since being undaggered, but he happened to find it fairly entertaining when he was bored.
"Never had the time," Dana said, her shoulders lifting in a shrug.
No, Dana had never had time for such small things meant for entertainment. Her sort of 'entertainment' had been different from others. Dana watched as Kol pulled two cue sticks out and toss her one that she caught with ease.
Dana almost informed Kol that she honestly had little interest in playing pool, but instead kept her mouth shut. She knew if she were to push him too far he would go as far as to compel her to do something she didn't want to do.
"So," Kol started to say as he set the cue balls up, "five?"
She didn't even have to guess at what he was getting at. Five was the number of people she had drained and killed in the woods. The five that he already knew about, however he'd found out. Then again, if they had already been found then word would soon spread around town.
Dana nearly groaned at the thought. Like there wasn't enough vampiric activity in town in the first place. "I was pissed off and hungry. Not exactly a good combination." She followed Kol's actions, copying what he'd done with the cue stick and balls, and to her surprise managed to land a ball in one of the table's pockets.
"You? Angry? I couldn't imagine." Kol smirked, his voice practically seeping with sarcasm.
She ignored him to the best of her ability.
Then her phone vibrated.
She pulled the cell out only to see that she had a missed call from her grandmother. That same spark of anger she'd felt last night returned and the cue stick snapped in her hands. Snapping the wooden stick got her a look from Kol, one she steadily ignored as she shoved the phone back in her pocket.
"You know how you mentioned the two of us could have fun?" Dana asked, turning a steely eyed gaze to the older vampire.
"Yes. I do recall mentioning that."
"Well…maybe you were right." Kol's face broke out in a wicked grin. However, Dana didn't return the grin. Her lips were pressed in a thin line and she simply followed Kol when he started out the door. Because at the moment she didn't care about the consequences, her mind only on her grandmother and how controlling she'd been. How her grandmother had just reinforced the rules Dana had tried to escape from in the first place, how the old woman had decided it was okay to reprimand the young vampire when she had no right to judge Dana.
But if Stacey were going to judge her, then Dana was going to give her something to judge her for.
Dana swiped her hand across her mouth, a grimace gracing her lips when she noticed the blood staining the pale skin. Her eyes wandered around the little camp area which had been pretty messed up during the struggle the humans had put up. It amazed her how feisty they'd been.
It also amused her how aggravated Kol had become with them. He'd gotten so annoyed with one man that he'd torn a limb off, seeming to relish in the human man's pain. That seemed to be taking it a little too far, but Dana wasn't going to question an agitated Kol.
Kol had stacked the bodies on top of one another and set fire to them, watching Dana with a seemingly amused smirk. Or maybe there was a hint of smugness in that smirk, she couldn't really be sure. Kol was almost like a ticking time bomb, and for once in her life Dana wasn't sure how to handle it.
Dana opened her mouth to say something, but right as she did something caught her attention. She had a split second to duck her head, just as a wooden arrow whizzed by, streaking past Kol who now had his eyes narrowed.
The younger vampire spun around, her own eyes seeking out what had launched the weapon until they found the target. But she ended up taking a full step backwards, eyes widening in surprise. If she had a beating heart she knew it would be pounding in her chest and that blood would be rushing through her veins. But as a vampire the adrenaline she was suddenly feeling felt increased by ten.
"Hello Dana. It's been a while, hasn't it?"
