Dana was pissed off.
Her being angry was never a good combination with being a vampire. When she got mad, she was impulsive. She didn't think clearly, she killed without thought, and at that point she wouldn't even have it in herself to feel guilty about it.
After discovering what had really happened with Elijah and her family years ago, and especially after finding out how Daniel was even still alive, she was utterly infuriated.
That was how she found herself out in the middle of the woods, uncaring if any of the Chasseur hunters found her. With the mood she was in, she would kill any one of them. She would feel no guilt over doing it, and she would relish in the kill.
The woods were surprisingly silent. It was almost as if the creatures that normally roamed about were afraid to come out, knowing what a mood the vampire girl was in as she slammed her fist into a tree angrily.
The tree creaked and groaned as it fell over. Dana watched it with just a hint of satisfaction. She pulled in a deep breath, walking to the next closest tree to lean against it. Her back slid against the bark, digging into her skin through the coral blouse she wore as she lowered to the ground.
She exhaled, clenching her hands into tight fists. She remembered a time, a time that seemed like so long ago, she had become angry. It was a distant memory, but it was one that changed her course of thinking.
Dana stared across the room, eyeing her twin brother. Anger sparked in the young girl's blue-gray eyes at the sight of the sick and frail boy lounging on the couch. His head was tilted towards the ceiling, his pale lips parted. His chest heaved up and down, unsteady as if he had to struggle to properly breathe. He as so thin.
He wouldn't stand a chance against the supernatural. Dana thought to herself, pursing her lips as she leaned backwards, wrapping her arms around her legs tightly. She hated thinking that, but it was true. He was so fragile. A vampire would barely even have to lift a finger to break her brother.
"Daniel?"
Daniel turned his head towards Dana, strands of dark blonde hair falling across his forehead as his eyes found hers. "Yes Dana?"
She hesitated before she spoke, unsure how he would take her question. Even if she were just sixteen, she had been thinking about this for a year or so now. She'd been thinking about it long and hard.
"What if we found a way to make you better?"
Daniel laughed. He actually laughed at her question as if she had meant for it to be funny. Her cheeks burned. "Don't be so naïve Dana. There's nothing that's going to make me better."
The fact that he so easily excepted that nearly devastated Dana.
It killed her that he had known he would never get better from a young age. He had been born frail and sickly. He'd never been cut out to be a hunter like she had. She'd been the lucky one. But there was a difference between the twins.
He had always yearned for the life of a hunter. Dana, however, had become rather infatuated by the idea of…something else.
"What if we gave you vampire's blood? It would heal you." Dana meant for her words to be a harmless suggestion. She knew it would never happen. Her parents would probably ground her or assert some other sort of punishment for uttering those words. But they were out on a hunt with her aunt and uncle. They weren't there to hear their conversation.
His eyes narrowed at her words. "I will never drink the blood of a vampire. They are evil creatures, and they are by far the most disgusting out of all the supernaturals to roam the earth."
Dana was stricken by his words of contempt. She had never known how he really felt about vampires. He just knew what he heard from their family about vampires. He had never really seen them action. He hadn't seen how quickly they could move, or seen how quickly they healed. He had not felt their tremendous strength as their fingers tightened around a fragile, human wrist.
He hadn't seen how beautiful they could be.
"What if a vampire turned you Daniel? What would you do?"
His gaze didn't falter. He turned his head to resume staring at the ceiling. "If I were to become a vampire I would stake myself. Either that or expect you to kill me."
Her face paled, her jaw falling as her lips parted in surprise. "Why me?"
Daniel sighed before he said, "Because Dana. You're my twin. And I've seen you in action. You're ruthless, unforgiving, and merciless when you're fighting. I know you would be quick to end my life…you wouldn't resort to other methods like our parents would."
Dana swallowed. Surely their parents wouldn't torture any of their children if they were to become vampires. It was such an inhumane thing to do to one's own children. But here recently Dana had begun to feel as if she didn't really even know her parents.
"Actually, now that I think about it," Daniel mused with a wry smirk, "with the way you kill, you would make an extraordinary vampire."
She wasn't sure if her face could pale even further, but she felt as if all color had drained from her face. Whether it was from the fact that those words had left his mouth, or because she had actually wondered what it would be like to be a vampire, she wasn't sure.
All she knew at that point, was that she could never reveal her thoughts to her twin.
At the time Dana had had enough restraint to hold back how angry she had really been that their parents had brainwashed Daniel into hating supernaturals so much. Vampire blood could have saved his life. Maybe it was selfish. Maybe it had been blasphemy to the ways of their family's rules, but she hadn't cared.
Back then, Dana would have done a number of things to make Daniel's life better.
But as it turned out, he wasn't quite as noble as he had once acted out to be.
"Would you look what I've found here."
At the sound of a familiar voice, Dana was at her feet in an instant. She narrowed her eyes at Kol, wondering how he'd found her in the first place. And what was he even doing here? He was one of the last people she wanted to be around.
"Leave me alone Kol."
"Someone's woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, or maybe just in the wrong bed," he retorted, smirking when Dana rolled her eyes, "I'm assuming you took your sexual frustrations out on that tree over there. Tell me, who was your victim, and what did you do with his body?"
Dana's eye twitched. "There's no body and I can't kill you, but believe me when I say I could think of a few…creative ways to torture you."
Kol took her words in relatively good stride, his fingers twitching as if they were itching to wrap around her slender throat. "Hm, I have always wondered what it would be like to be tortured by a Chasseur. I've heard they have interesting methods."
Dana snorted despite the previous anger brewing inside.
"Interesting huh?"
Kol seemed rather smug as he stared down at her. "For someone who doesn't seem to have such a problem killing, you detest the way your family runs things."
"I don't have a problem kill because it's what I was raised to do," Dana responded quietly, her fingers brushing over the bark of the tree she was standing next to.
"Are hunters not supposed to be raised to believe vampires are the ultimate evil, and to protect the human race? I would assume you would have qualms with killing humans." Kol moved closer to Dana, his eyes twinkling with a certain mischievousness that she surprisingly missed.
"But you don't understand do you?" Dana questioned, standing up straight, "I stand on a line. If I cross that line I become like you." Her eyes flickered to the ground, and something stirred inside of her. She didn't want to be like Kol, not with the way he so ruthlessly killed his victims. Maybe she could live like Damon, reveling in the vampire way of life, but not constantly killing to feel a sense of contentment.
Suddenly Kol was standing too close, so close that he had her backed against the tree. His eyes ran over her face, not dismissing the fact that she refused to glance away when their eyes met. He lifted a hand, brushing back strands of Dana's hair with a wicked smirk. He leaned in closer to where his lips were at her ear.
"But maybe you want to cross that line," he murmured, his smirk widening in a smug grin when he pulled away.
Dana seemed to be torn between glaring at him or appearing confused. Before he could say anything else, she put a hand on Kol's chest and gave him a solid shove. With hard eyes she watched him stumble. The two knew that the only reason she'd really had any effect in moving him was because she'd surprised him.
Before he could lash out Dana was gone. Yes, he could catch up with her if he so wished. He could compel her. He could kill her. But this had become far too interesting for him to even consider such options.
Kol cocked his head to the side with a glint in his dark eyes. Yes, he was going to break Dana Chasseur if it were the last thing he did.
Dana didn't make it too much farther.
If it weren't for the fact that she had just encountered Kol then she may have been paying more attention. If her thoughts hadn't been racing a million miles a minute then she would have been more alert.
An arrow flew from nowhere and struck her in the abdomen. Pain wracked her body as her hands wrapped around the arrow, breaking the end off and yanking on it. A cry left her mouth, a shudder running through her body.
Then she was glancing around with furious eyes.
"Dana, I see you're still in…good health." A voice said, sarcastically of course.
She rolled her eyes as she slowly turned to face the source of the voice. Not too far off stood her cousin Galen. If Galen were here then her Aunt Kyra and Uncle Seth surely couldn't bee far. She took in his tall, lean form. The way his dark hair fell to one side in a Justin-Bieber sort of fashion she hated.
"Galen, I still see your aim is off. As usual. We all know Daniel was the one skilled with a bow. Not you," Dana mused, smirking when a fire lit in his eyes. Maybe she shouldn't have been antagonizing him, but it had always amused her to see him get so fired up. Especially if he were being compared to any of Dana's siblings.
"You and your twin are both disgraces to this family," Galen spat.
That had Dana interested. She raised an eyebrow at Galen and asked, "What are you talking about? Daniel is the most dedicated one of us. Even if he was sick."
"You're naïve if you think he survived by himself," Galen snarled, taking a step closer to her, "Your parents fed him-"
"Galen that's enough."
The stern voice of Seth Chasseur stopped Galen from saying anything else. Galen stepped back, his eyes burning with a particular hatred that had always been there. Dana found Seth standing off to the left, leaning against the tree, a dagger held loosely in his hands.
"Dana, my darling. What a long time it's been." then there was Kyra, her aunt. She was standing on the other side of Dana, a crossbow in her hands. Meaning that it hadn't even been Galen who shot her. It had been Kyra and she had been intentional shooting Dana in the stomach instead of the heart.
As Dana spoke her ears caught something so distinct that not a single one of the three hunters would be able to catch it. She shifted her weight onto one foot, noting the way that Kyra noticed her shift in position.
But before Dana could even move there was another arrow lodged into her leg, which only gave her uncle incentive to move. Before she could move he had his thick arm wrapped around her throat, his free hand restraining her hands. She jerked forward, a growl tearing through her throat when she couldn't move. The veins under her eyes darkened, fangs protruding from her mouth.
"Dana, my darling, I always told your father you weren't going to last." Kyra's hand caressed the side of her niece's face, the smuggest of smirks curling her lips, "But he didn't listen to me."
"You're going to die."
Kyra seemed taken aback at Dana's words. She was sure that her niece's being a vampire had somehow affected the logical part of her mind. Kyra was pretty positive that Dana didn't realize that not only was she outnumbered, but she was facing two hunters who had two times the experience she did.
"You are such a foolish child," Kyra scoffed out.
"Actually, I would say you appear to be the foolish one." A new voice joined in and Dana nearly smirked because she would recognize that voice anywhere.
Suddenly Seth's arm was no longer around Dana's neck and her hands were free. She removed the in her leg, hissing in pain as it slid through her muscles. Then she had her aunt pushed back against a tree, her fangs bared right in the older woman's face.
"You and the rest of my family seem to forget one little detail," Dana spat, "I'm not the only vampire in town." She push her aunt away, scowling as she stumbled backwards and fell to the ground due to the force Dana put behind the shove.
"Sorry mate," Dana glanced over just in time to see Kol snap her uncle's neck with a quick twist, "but you lot have already pissed me off."
A twig snapped, easily catching Kol's attention. Galen froze in his tracks, no longer the fearless hunter he liked to pretend to be. Kol blurred to Galen's side, smirking wickedly as his hand disappeared in the chest of Galen, soon leaving her cousin just as dead as her uncle.
A/N~
long time no update. So it feels like. My freshmen year of college is coming to an end I suddenly had inspiration to write more of this story which is fantastic and not awesome at the same time because it's distracting me from studying. xD But just leave a review (because I really do appreciate those) and let me know what you did or didn't like about this chapter and how I can improve! Much love and thanks!
