As Draco walked towards the teacher's office, he worried. There had been a few times he had gotten girls pregnant before at school, but every time, something happened to cause the girls to miscarry. First was Astoria Greengrass who was tripped by a fellow Slytherin, who also happened to know she was pregnant with Draco's child, and she fell on her stomach which killed the baby. After Astoria was her sister Daphne, and she purposely miscarried because the baby would have made her look fat. The last was Pansy Parkinson who got really sick, and the baby died as a result.

The only time a baby lasted full term, was an American muggle, who he didn't even know the name of, from a bar. They had both been extremely drunk, and woke up three days later to find themselves together. She knew about wizards, so he was able to use the spell while she was awake to check, and they stayed in contact for the baby, but he hadn't heard from the girl since she threatened to put the baby in an orphanage. Draco didn't know if she had followed through with the threat or not, all he knew was she wasn't talking to him.

Once he arrived at Professor Minerva's office, Draco entered, and she told him they could start work on his transformation in a week. They discussed the basic exercises he should do before they began, the main one being that he needed to attempt to cast a patronis in order to discern his animal form. The other exercise was merely practicing his transfiguration spells that corresponded with turning things into his animal. Draco thanked the kind witch and headed back to the common room.

"Draco, where have you been?" Hermione asked on his arrival.

"Professor Minerva is going to help me become an animangus. I just hope I'm not a ferret."

Hermione giggled a little, then went back to a straight face, "I don't know what to do, Draco."

"Please, just be careful," Draco stared at the floor.

"What do you mean, Draco?"

"All three previous children I've sired at school have died before birth," Draco began sobbing. "And one that was born of a drunken fling, I have no idea where he is."

Hermione pulled him into a hug, and returned the favor of comfort that he gave her earlier in the day, "I'll do everything I can to be sure nothing happens to us. As scared as I am about being pregnant, I want my baby, and that's that."

"Thanks, Hermione, but I fear that I'm cursed," Draco whispered.

"You've just had bad luck, Draco. We'll get through this. Now, let's try to get some work done before Emily wakes up again."

Draco smiled at her optimism, and they began the frantic work of finishing homework. They had to stop a couple times to take care of Emily, but they managed to get it all done before bed.

"I don't want to be alone," Draco said as they went to go into separate rooms.

Hermione sighed, "Okay, I'll be over once I'm changed."

"Thanks, and I really am sorry about earlier, and getting you pregnant. I should know better after the miscarriages."

Hermione smiled, and disappeared from his view. The next morning, Draco woke before Hermione, and decided to get her breakfast. Leaving a note, Draco sprinted to the Great Hall, and grabbed some food. When he returned to the common room, Draco found Hermione and Emily were both still asleep, so he summoned a tray, and arranged the food on it before walking silently into the room to wake Hermione.

"Good morning, beautiful," Draco smiled as she sat up. "That was the best night of sleep I've had in a long time. No nightmares."

"Glad I could help," Hermione replied as Draco placed the tray of food across her lap.

Draco smiled, and Emily woke up. He left the room to take care of her. Once he was done feeding Em, Draco took his food into the bedroom so that he could eat with Hermione.

"I'll take classes all day," Draco said.

Hermione cocked her head, "Why?"

"If you don't leave the common room, there's less chance of anything happening to you and the baby."

"Draco, I understand your worry, but our daughter will be fine. She'll be strong, like her father."

"Please, Hermione."

"Once I'm five months along, I'll do as you ask, but for now, Draco, I need to go to class. Please, understand."

"All right, but I want you to stay by Ron. I asked him at dinner to accompany you to all your classes today."

Hermione nodded and left to get dressed. Draco worried all day that something terrible would happen, and when Professor McGonagall visited, his first thought was that she was there to say something bad had happened to Hermione.

"Good day, Mr. Malfoy," McGonagall said kindly.

"Professor," Draco replied worried.

"Miss. Granger is fine if that's what you're worried about."

"Excuse me, Professor, but how did you know?"

"The walls have eyes, Mr. Malfoy," McGonagall pointed to a painting. "I've learned a lot from Professor Dumbledore."

"If nothing's wrong, then why are you here?"

McGonagall sighed, "It's about your half-blood son."

"You've found him!" Draco exclaimed waking Emily. "I'll go take care of her."

Draco stood and walked into Emily's room where he picked her up and brought her out into the common room.

"Yes, Mr. Malfoy, we've found him, but you're not going to like this."

Draco gulped, his only child that survived birth is in trouble. He would do anything to save him. Anything except endanger Hermione or Emily, "What's wrong?"

"He's in a muggle hospital in very serious condition. Apparently, he was sent to an orphanage and was adopted. The woman who adopted him started dating a very abusive man who threw him to the floor because he wouldn't stop crying."

"I have to go, Professor," Draco cried. "He's the only one that survived to be born. Please, let me go to him."

"I will take you, along with Miss. Granger for support."

"Thank you. I will forever be in your debt, and so will little David if he survives this."

I know, I know, it's a common, un-wizardlike name, but Draco had no say in the name, the woman did, and remember, she's an American muggle.
