If Wei had been human, he would have vomited. As it was he trembled as he tried to exert control over his form. His body felt as though it had been ripped apart and recombined like Frankenstein. It was only slowly and with great effort that he was able to rise off the ground.
"Stupid dog fucking bitch..." Wei whispered venomously to the unconscious Kagome while reaching for the Shining Hate. He could feel that his connection to this world had been twisted and weakened terribly, but was not severed. With some time I can recover fully and regain my hold in this world.
"I am glad you are still alive though," Wei whispered to Kagome. "I told your brother I was going to rape you and when you awaken-"
"NO!"
It was only one word, but the conviction behind it spoke worlds to Wei about an unspoken devotion as Kouga landed heels first into Wei's back, penetrating through to his abdomen and smashing him into the ground. Without wasting a moment, Kouga's claws found the back of Wei's skull and opened it up in a shower of gore. Pressing the advantage for all it was worth over his weakened opponent, Kouga took hold of Wei's left leg just below the knee and leapt clear of the newly formed crater taking a disoriented Wei sailing through the sky with him.
In the air, Kouga considered his options. There was only one real option and no matter how dangerous it was desperation demanded it be taken. At the apex of his leap, Kouga shifted his murderous burden. Swinging Wei over his head in a tight arc, Kouga let gravity take over as he released Wei.
For a moment Wei, was afforded a brief glimpse of his handiwork, the sight of miles of the city ruined and in flame brought little joy to his heart. Rather it brought feelings of disappointment and shame as he considered the pitiful amount he had accomplished.
Further time for contemplation was ended abruptly though, as Wei's descent terminated and he hit the sidewalk while going roughly 70 miles an hour. His form, already shaken from spiritual warfare with Kagome, lost cohesion and splattered into a red mess held in the vague form of a man by virtue of the clothes he wore.
Unfortunately the red refused to die, and knit itself into the familiar features of Wei. Once Wei's vision was restored, he sat up to see Kouga before of him and backlit perfectly by the moon's silvery light. It may have been a trick of perception, but Wei could have sworn that Kouga looked more massive than previously.
"Wei," Kouga growled, sounding as though the words were ripped from his throat.
"I don't usually do this..."
Kouga dropped to all fours and elicited a scraping sound from the concrete
"It's too wild to be set free..."
The sound of his sword and scabbard striking the ground and clattering against it echoed in the night.
"BUT FOR YOU..."
A thick coat of black hair sprang from his skin and covered him completely.
"FOR KAGOME..."
Kouga's bulk increased exponentially to that of a car and continued growing larger.
"I'm pulling out all the stops!"
Kouga's voice, which had been steadily growing coarser and less understandable degenerated completely into a feral snarl as his nose and jaws elongated into a muzzle. A deafening howl split the night and the entirety of Kouga's savagery was loosed. Standing three meters tall and weighing more than a bear, Kouga's lupine shape was corded with muscle that bulged from under its pelt.
Wei only had a moment to bear witness to the transformed Kouga before the beasts hungry eyes focused on him. A split second was all it took and Wei's chest was caught between its jaws and staining them crimson. Wei did not bother to struggle free of the crushing maw, but instead focused on calling the Shining Hate to him.
The call went unanswered.
The dog fucking bitch...expended too much energy...
In the next moment though, Kouga's jaws had found their way through Wei's form and severed it into separate halves. Not satisfied with that, the wolf then flung both pieces into the flames consuming the night.
Wei landed roughly with his upper torso smashing wetly into a cement support pillar for an Exxon gas station's overhang and his waist and legs crashing through a display in front of the sliding glass doors of neighboring a Pachinko parlor. To the credit of the designers, the doors did detect the approaching lower half, but were not sufficiently fast to open before they smacked up against the glass, smearing it red.
Dissolving his upper half, Wei flowed into the gambling den and regained his bearings. A quick survey of his surroundings provoked a deep sense of disquiet to form within him. Standing under the garish red and pink neon sign, Wei saw nothing openly threatening, but the strange absence of the Japanese finally forced itself into the front of his deranged consciousness.
Where the hell are they? Except for those few others...I haven't seen anyone...A city of how many?...Puzzlement creased Wei's brow as he observed signs of how quick the...whatever it was had occurred.
The pumps of the station where his torso had landed still had cars parked before them. In fact, the Toyota nearest to him still had the fuel nozzle in the tank and the door to the vehicle stood slightly ajar.
Curiosity prompted him to jog over and open the door the entire way. Within the grey leather interior Wei took immediate note of the cup holder. In it rested a nearly untouched cup of instant coffee. Wei could tell that its heat had dissipated some time ago and was now the same temperature as the surroundings.
If everyone simply disappeared though, the vehicles on the road would have careened out of control...
Nothing hinted at mass carnage though. Looking back to the silent street, Wei noticed that it was empty of cars, damaged or otherwise. Unlikely as it was that a population would undergo a mass disappearance, it was even more unlikely to occur and not leave behind ruins. Something had purposefully kept order in the city while eliminating the Japanese.
Wei, of course, had no sympathy for the Japanese, but felt that whatever force had exerted itself against them was a threat to him and the Chinese. It required investigation.
Besides, I could use a moment to regain my strength.
Steadying himself, Wei walked back to the pachinko parlor whose doors slid open with a curiously apologetic whuffing sound, as though remorseful for not having admitted him before.
Wei continued past the threshold of the doors and threaded his way through the eerily silent rows of slot machines to the service counter, where he guessed security footage from the surveillance cameras could offer up some explanation.
The beast that Kouga had transformed into did not know who or what Wei was. Anything that required higher levels of thinking was impossible for him. He wouldn't have cared even if he did know. The world and all in it was separated into two categories: prey and non-prey. Wei was the former. However, this prey confused Kouga. He had killed it, but felt no compulsion to feed, which was unsettling in the extreme. What was more, something kept nagging him that his prey wasn't actually dead. It was all so confusing to Kouga and he did not like being confused. The only appropriate response was biting something's head off.
