Lucky – Chapter 6

He had been wandering around Headquarters searching for her when he heard self-conscious giggling. "Please play, Natasha," a garbled voice was saying. He didn't even think anyone in the building knew how to giggle, let alone her. "Ok, ok, Maria," she returned. A guitar scale reached his ears. He thought he knew her so well… But even in their month of dating, and years of friendship, he never knew she played the guitar.

"Do you hear me, I'm talking to you

Across the water, across the deep, blue ocean

Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying."

A shiver ran down his spine. She sung, too? He had never heard her voice like that, and it wasn't what he was expecting. Her voice fell easy on his ears, but was still slightly gruff, winding its way around his heart.

"Boy, I hear you in my dreams

I feel your whisper across the sea

I keep you with me in my heart

You make it easier when life gets hard."

He closed his eyes, letting the song and the guitar fill his chest.

"Lucky I'm in love with my best friend

Lucky to have been where I have been

Lucky to be coming home again

I'm lucky we're in love in every way

Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed

Lucky to be coming home someday."

"That was beautiful. Wow, Natasha…" Hill sighed when she had finished the song. He could picture her blushing all shades of pink, just like when he tickled her, or swung her over his shoulder and she laughed.

"Yeah, well," she flustered, "Thank you."

There was a pause and then, "Was… was it for Clint?"

His phone went off before he could hear the answer, skittering away before they could catch him eavesdropping.
