„We´re in Position."
„Copy that Archer. Do you got a visual? "
"Wait a second Sir….Yes, there are seven people in the Governor's office."
"Good. Do you see Price in there?"
"Positive Sir. Captain Price´s one of them."
"Roger. Stay in Position and wait for my orders."
With a sigh Soap turned his comms down. It was good to know that Price was in there, they got the chance to rescue him right now, and all they needed was a good plan. Right at this moment Soap didn´t care if Makarov was in there as well, this bastard would get what he deserved soon. Impatient Soap lit himself a cigar and let his eyes wander over the footprint they had from the building, they could storm into the building through the secret tunnel underneath it or they could try and storm the back entrance, it was his decision. Every soldier and police men out there waited only for him to give them the instructions but before he could tell them what to do, he needed to know what exactly was going on in there. Were they placing bombs to destroy the building or was the whole situation just a diversionary tactic? As long as he wasn´t sure about that he wouldn´t send dozens of men into the building.
Just as Soap wanted to discuss his next move with Ghost, a Ranger stormed into the tent, looked around frantically, before his eyes landed on Soap and the man quickly cut the distance between them and took a deep breath.
"Captain?" The Soldier asked out of breath and Soap nodded in response.
"Here!" The Soldier stretched his arm out and held a black phone right in front of Soap´s eyes. "They want to talk to you." The Ranger said as he handed the phone over to Soap, turned around and left the tent again, without any more words.
With knitted eye-brows Soap stared down at the little black object in his hands, before he slowly raised it to his ear. Unsure what to say Soap turned around and glanced at Ghost, who had risen from his chair and now stood next to his Captain with his arms crossed in front of his chest and Soap knew that his friend was shooting him a confused look. Soap breathed out heavily only a second before he heard a voice over the phone and he immediately knew who wanted to talk to him.
"Captain MacTavish?" The caller asked and Soap felt the anger rise up in him.
"Makarov?" Soap answered through gritted teeth. There was a silent pause in which Soap only heard the man´s heavy breathing.
With a mix of curiosity and anger Soap started to strode through the tent, not having the strength to keep his nerves calm. What did he want from him? Did he call to make him insecure? Would he try to negotiate with him? What should Soap do if Makarov demanded something? Should he give in? Soap thought about giving in for a second, maybe it would safe Price. Soap closed his eyes for a second before he answered.
"What do you want?" Soap asked, his voice full of anger and disgust.
On the other side of the phone Soap could hear a quiet laugh. "What´s wrong Captain? You sound angry?" Makarov asked and Soap knew his enemy was smiling.
"Why´d you care? Just tell me what you want?"
"Well, I see you´re not one for small talk. I think you want to know why we´re here. Don't you?"
Soap let a quiet yes slip from his lips and Makarov continued to speak.
"First of all I want you to come in here, it´s easier to talk face to face."
"And why should I do that?" Soap asked and let out a sigh, why wanted Makarov him in there?
"Don´t play tricks on me Captain. I know you´ll come or do you have already forgotten about Captain Price? I don´t think you want him to get hurt." Makarov let out a chuckle as he heard how Soap breathed out heavily, he knew that he had the Captain wrapped around his finger.
"You don´t say anything? Good, I think we agree that it´s the best for you to come in here. You know I wanted you to come here immediately but I understand that you will need some time to call your men and explain them what they should do so I give you fifteen minutes to come in here."
Soap wanted to say something to his counterpart, something that would wipe the smile off Makarov´s face but as he opened his mouth to speak, he heard Makarov´s voice once more.
"Oh and Captain tell your Lieutenant I want him in here as well, it would be unfair to let you come alone, also I want the two Sanderson's to come in here, I think they should celebrate their reunion."
With that Makarov hung up and all Soap heard was the beeping sound of the telephone. Angry Soap squeezed his right hand, in which he held the phone, till it started to crack and with all his power Soap threw the phone away. The small object crashed to the floor and broke into pieces. Confused Ghost watched his Captain´s outrage, before he stepped up to him and laid a hand on the other man´s shoulder, making the Scot look at him.
"What did he want?" Ghost asked calmly and Soap just shook his head.
"He wants us to go into the building otherwise he´ll do something to Price." Soap answered and clenched his fists.
"Well." Ghost started and walked to the tents entrance. "If he wants us, he can have us. He doesn´t know that this´ll be his seal his fate."
"Hey!" Chrissy looked up from her laptop and was greeted by Julia´s face. The young blonde showed a weak smile and nodded.
"Hey! How are you feeling?" Chrissy asked and watched Julia take a seat next to her.
"I´m feeling better, thanks to the medicine Dunn gave me." Julia answered and took a sip from the cup of tea she had with her.
"That´s good to hear, so you´re not ill?" Chrissy kept on asking, her eyes back on the screen.
"No, you know me. I always feel sick when we go to a place I never was before." Julia answered and put her cup down.
"True. Since I know you, you always felt uncomfortable in new places, remember as we were on vacation and you were the only one who stayed at the hotel at night, while we all went out to party?"
"Of course I remember. How could I forget that you came back, shitfaced, and you threw your skirt over the TV and the next day you couldn´t remember how it got up there?" Julia countered and smiled.
"Ah, happy days." Chrissy answered, crossed her hands behind her head and smiled at the memory. For a minute both sat there in silence, till Julia opened her mouth to speak.
"What are you doing here anyways? I thought you´re gone with the others?" She asked curious and took a look at Chrissy´s laptop, on which she could see some reports.
"I wanted to go with them but they thought it would be better for me to stay here. They said that I wouldn´t be ready to go on a mission, Michael even said that I´m traumatized by Makarov´s capture. Sometimes he´s a real Idiot." Chrissy answered and shook her head with an expression on her face, which showed Julia that she was really angry to be left behind.
But she decided to keep her mouth shut and not say a word to the things Chrissy had said, she knew that everything she would tell her, only would make her even madder and Julia didn´t had the desire to argue with her friend. What was more important for her was what Chrissy was doing on her laptop. Caroline told her that she and Chrissy sneaked into the General´s office, back at their base, and Julia was sure the reports on the screen had something to do with it.
"Well, you know he´s overprotective, especially if it´s about you. But tell me what are you doing on your laptop? This has something to do with Makarov right?" Julia asked and took a long look at the screen in front of her friend.
Nervous Chrissy switched in her chair and leered at Julia. Sure she knew what Chrissy was doing; Caroline must have told her. But what would her friend say, if Chrissy told her that the information on the USB-Stick all were a dead end? Nothing Chrissy could find there made anything clear about Makarov´s actions. There was nothing in this man´s record, which showed, that he was a terrorist. If anything this records only showed that Makarov was a brilliant scientist, the best in his area. Something definitely was wrong there, why the Russian Government did even have a record about him, if Makarov didn´t do anything bad? What was the need of this? Chrissy didn´t know and it worried her.
Chrissy shook her head, there was no use to think about that right now. Maybe she would find something useful about Makarov. She couldn´t allow herself to get depressed that she hadn´t found anything out till now. With a sigh she turned her eyes back to the laptop and typed something in.
"I try to find something about Makarov´s backstory, I mean this man must have done something bad in his life that makes him the powerful terrorist we´re after. But the problem is, I can´t find anything evil about him. I almost checked everything I found in the General´s office but not a single report is showing that he had done anything to menace us. If I can´t find anything soon, I think I´m going to cry." Chrissy explained and furiously read over the reports.
Julia let her friends words sink in for a moment, before she got closer to her friend and also read over the reports. From what Julia could read, she had to admit that Chrissy was right. What if Makarov wasn´t the head of all this? What if he was forced to do all this? Could it be that Makarov only was a victim? What if someone threatened him to do all this? But who could have the power to do that? Julia knew that they checked every man that they knew was on Makarov´s side but none of them would have the power to force someone like Makarov to do that. Was there someone else? Who could it be? Lost in her thoughts Julia didn´t recognize the two persons, which were standing behind her and Chrissy and took a look at the laptop.
"What are you doing?" There was a deep voice, which made the both girls jump a little in surprise.
The girls exchanged a help seeking look and swallowed hard, before they slowly turned around to face their teammate.
"Hey Frost! I didn´t know that you were still here!" Julia said quietly and examined the man next to Derek. Julia was sure, she had seen the man somewhere before but couldn´t remember where. She stared at him for a while, he must have been in his late fifties, his hair began to turn grey, his face was clean shaved, his blue eyes and the suit he was wearing made him look very important. Intensely thinking where she had seen the man before, she knitted her eye-brows and rubbed her nose with her right index finger, normally she wouldn´t forget a face so easily. She wanted to ask Derek, who the man was, as Chrissy already opened her mouth to speak.
"And who is you friend? Why hasn´t he introduced himself? I hope he knows that we´re in a critical situation, we don´t have the time to keep ourselves busy with paper pusher looking over our shoulders and stand in our way." Chrissy said snippy and crossed her arms, waiting impatient for an answer.
Julia started to smile but as she realized that Derek was looking at Chrissy with wide eyes, his mouth slightly open, and her smile faded. She could feel that Derek was shocked about the words Chrissy said. She also recognized that the American Soldier started to sweat more than normal and his face began to turn slightly red.
Derek swallowed hard and the embarrassment he had felt, turned into slightly anger, before he calmed his nerves a bit and answered.
"Watch your tone Chrissy. Don´t you know who this man is?" Derek asked puzzled and as Chrissy shook her head, he turned his glance to Julia, who just shrugged her shoulders and smiled. Derek shook his head in disbelief, cleared his throat and turned to his side to face the man.
"I have to apologize for my teammates Sir. They aren´t from the United States and they don´t watch or read the news." Derek explained and shoot the two girls an angry glance. Disgusted Chrissy arose from her chair and wanted to yell at Derek, what he was thinking he was telling the man, as the unknown suddenly started to chuckle.
"It´s Okay Mr. Westbrook, the young lady is right, I should have introduced myself to them." The man smiled and offered Chrissy a handshake.
"My Name´s Larry Baker." He said and offered Julia a handshake too.
"And what are you doing here Mr. Baker?" Julia asked curious as the man let go off her hand and smiled.
"I´m here to check on your work, Miss?"
"Julia. I´m a nurse." Julia answered and smiled.
"And what is your friend doing for her living?" The man kept on asking and turned back to Chrissy.
"I´m a nurse too and you Mr. Baker? What are you doing for your living? Let me guess, your job is to check on the teams and decide who should stay and who should leave?" Chrissy asked and turned around, to work on her laptop again.
The man chuckled quietly and shook his head.
"Not exactly, my job is to lead this nation!"
"What do you mean by that?" Chrissy asked angry, why couldn´t this man just say what he was doing exactly? Why did he have to speak in riddles? "What is the exact definition of your job?" She kept on asking and stared at her screen.
"The exact definition?" The man asked visible amused. "Well Miss." He said and Chrissy turned around in her chair, to shoot him a scoffing glance.
"I´m the President of the Unites States of America."
With big eyes Julia and Chrissy stared at the man and didn´t know what to do.
