Separation

"I would like to present our newest student, Scorpius Malfoy, who has been transferred to Durmstrang due to some doubtful company at Hogwarts. He will be entering 5th year." Mr. Ankher announces to the school, grasping my shoulder far too tightly for comfort. I scowl at him, he obviously had to quote my father's exact words.

"It wasn't f****ing bad company." I mutter to the annoying headmaster, and then pull away from him to go sit down in the first spot I see, between some random bimbo with far too much make-up and a cheery looking boy with his tie done up awkwardly. There is a silence as everyone stares at me for my attitude, and then a few girls giggle and flutter their eyelashes at me. I scowl at them all and cross my arms.

"You're cute." The bimbo next to me says, winking flirtatiously, "If you ever want some help getting around school, I'll help. My name's..." I cut her off.

"I honestly couldn't care less what you're called, and if I arrive to a few classes late, that's all the better. So save your breath and your make-up. No amount of cosmetics could make you pretty, and no amount of words could make you seem even remotely intelligent." I then get up again, knocking over my chair, and stride out of the hall, my hands clenched in fists at my side. My footsteps echo around the depressing hall, which is made mainly of dark stones. The tables are set up like at Hogwarts, except, because there are no houses and less students, there are only three tables, and they are slightly wider than the ones at Hogwarts, due to the huge space they occupy. Pictures of old Dark Wizards, Quidditch throughout the ages, the Triwizard Tournament and other things like that line the walls, and flaming torches hang from brackets in a pathetic attempt to provide some light. Everyone stares at me again as I walk out of this gloomy room, and I am sorely tempted to do a particularly rude sign to them all. I don't hold back, and there is a collective gasp when I hold up my middle finger for everyone to see.

I walk through the empty Durmstrang corridors, thinking of the Hogwarts feast and how beautiful the Great Hall would be tonight, with it's enchanted ceiling and the thousands of stars glittering above. After a while however, I come back to reality and realise that I'm completely lost.

"Damn." I mutter, looking around the dark corridor, a few portraits are hanging on the walls, and I go to the closest, intending to ask for directions.

"Excuse me?" I say to the young man in the portrait, who looks at me sharply. I look at the plaque under the portrait, and start when I see what is written.

Gellert Grindelwald.

The dark wizard smirks at my reaction, "I would advise you to know who you are talking to before opening your mouth in the future, you foolish boy."

"Was that meant to sound scary?" I ask, smirking. It really is pathetic that the second greatest dark wizard of all time is reduced to terrifying random students from a picture.

"No, it was a warning." He says, eyes flashing dangerously. Normally, I would have been terrified, but at the moment I'm just annoyed.

"It's not like you can do anything to me from a painting." I shoot back.

"Unfortunately, you're right, but I know many Durmstrang students who would gladly go to Azkaban for me."

"All the more reason for me to clear out of this madhouse. Now, can you tell me how to get to the 5th year dormitories?"

"Left, right, right, left, down." he tells me in a bored voice, "I won't help you further."

"Trust Durmstrang to stick the rooms in the dungeons." I mutter darkly, turning on my heel and striding off down the corridor.

I've been walking for about two minutes when I see the turn to the left, I turn the corner, but a girl's voice interrupts me.

"I wouldn't go that way if I was you." It says, with a small giggle, and I turn around, not bothering to mask my impatience. A blue eyed, blond girl is surveying me, her eyes twinkling with amusement. She looks like a first-class airhead

"Why shouldn't I?" I ask her, crossing my arms.

"Grindewald is always directing the first years towards the ghost's ballroom, just to freak them out, I'm surprised you fell for it, you seemed more intelligent than that."

"I am more intelligent than that." I hiss at her superior tone, "But without any other option, I had to go for that one."

"It's your fault for leaving the feast early, so stop so being moody, you british moron."

"Then where should I go? And I don't think a norwegian cretin should be allowing herself to insult me."

"You're so bitter. Did you have a girlfriend at Hogwarts to make you so annoyed at being here?"

I feel as if she's stabbed me, spot on.

She takes my silence as a yes, "Poor you, but you know that us Norwegians are better than any British bimbo."

"Rose is not a bimbo!" I snap, and her eyes widen.

"Ooooh! Rose Weasley! The daughter of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, right? I'm surprised she went for an irritable troll like you. She must have all the guys at her feet." She says, obviously delighted at this newest piece of gossip, "Plus, you're a Mafoy! I bet that's why you were sent here! Your Daddy didn't want you with a Weasley... So sad." She wipes away an imaginary tear.

Merlin, that girl is much more perceptive than she looks.

"Shut up. We're not even going out. Where are the dormitories?"

She wags an elegantly manicured finger at me, "I'm not telling you anything until you spill all the dirt on you and Weasley."

Were the Hogwarts girls this annoying? Surely not.

"There's nothing to tell. I like her, but she hardly even considers me a friend." I say through clenched teeth.

"Forbidden romance, so adorable." She says, smirking.

"Can you tell me where to go now?"

"Oh no! It appears I have the cute new boy all to myself for a while, I want to make the best of it!"

"Has anyone ever told you how annoying you are?"

"Yes! It really hurts my feelings..." She answers, pouting.

"Then I'll hurt them even more, you are honestly the most infuriating girl I've ever met."

"Said, like that, it sounds like a compliment that I'm the most infuriating! I must be really phenomenal to capture your attention like that."

I sigh, this will be a long year.

…...

Dear Scorpius,

What the f**** are you doing at Durmstrang?! You need to get your rather large arse over to Hogwarts pronto! You know Jake Aaron? That Slytherin git? Well, he's been turning around Rose for ever! It's only a matter of time until he asks her out and she accepts! Don't Durmstrang kids learn to apparate early or something, you need to come claim Rose, or I swear I will never speak to you again if you let her go out with a Slytherin! Other than that, how are you? Hope you're having an okay time at Durmstrang. (OK because you couldn't possibly be having a good time without me to keep you company, or Rose to snog)

oooo (no x, i'm not gay!)

Albus

"How tragic." An annoying voice I have come to know well, says.

"Shut up, Arla. And what gives you the right to read over my shoulder?" I answer testily, quickly stuffing the letter into my pocket.

"Uh... Being your future girlfriend, duh!"

I groan and get up to head over to my first class of the day, which is potions. Ever since that first day when she found me in the corridors, Arla has just been getting more and more insufferable, even going as far as to announce that she is doing me the "honor" of making me her next boyfriend. I had flat out refused, obviously. Not that this fazed her in the slightest.

"Scorpiiiiuus! Don't abandon me like that! You're so mean." She complains, running after me and slipping her hand into mine. I don't even try to shake her off when she does this anymore, she must have a grasp stronger than a grindylow's, those water demons that latch onto their prey. Actually, she's like a Grindylow in much more ways than just that if you think of them as demons.

I thus completely ignore her, and think of Albus' letter. I hate Aaron, ever since the first year I have hated him with a passion for the way he treats girls and for his superior attitude. He has had more girlfriends than I can count, and I don't think that he has ever stayed longer than a week with any of them. I do not want him to hurt Rose in the same way that he has hurt those many girls which you see crying at the breakfast table almost every week. I need a plan. Rose will never accept to have a long distance relationship, I need to show her that I can be there when she needs me. I need to go to Hogwarts.

…...

"You know it's not going to work." Arla's voice says, and I turn around with a jolt to see her calmly lounging on my bed, flipping through the book I'm currently reading, Quidditch Through the Ages. She was not there about five seconds ago.

"It has to work." I answer shortly, rummaging through my trunk for my traveling cloak.

"It does, if you want to get your darling Weasley back, but it won't." She throws my book down and lazily sits up, "That is honestly the most boring book ever, I never got this obsession with quidditch."

"That's hardly surprising, you don't understand much." I say, grabbing my broom and jumping up onto the window ledge.

"I do, for example, I understand that I'll need to get my wand out for a cushioning spell when you fall miserably from your broom."

"I don't fall." I answer, launching off the ledge on my broom and into the cold night sky.

I have about five seconds of freedom, then hit what feels like a solid brick wall, and fall.

Even falling, I still hear Arla's annoying voice, which she has magnified just for that purpose, "Will you look at that? What a surprise." She then giggles annoyingly, and that's the last thing I hear before hitting the ground and passing out.

…...

"What are you doing here, Aaron?" I ask the sandy haired god who has just sat down opposite me in the library.

"Aren't I allowed to come see my favorite ginger?" He asks with a flirtatious wink, causing me to roll my eyes at him.

"Normally, people come to libraries to study, not to flirt."

"And I am going to study!" He exclaims, as if I've just insulted him gravely in suggesting that he would do anything else, "We have OWLS in a few months."

"Where are your books then?"

"I seem to have forgotten them, but I can share with you." He answers, moving his chair so that he's sitting right next to me.

I grin at him, "You're insufferable."

"And proud of it!" he answers laughing, and I join in, his laugh is so infectious.

We continue to joke back and forth like this for a while, until the librarian comes around the corner and gives us both a stern glare, and threatens to take off house points if we make anymore noise.

We study in silence for a while, until Jake leans in even closer to me, and whispers in my ear, "Have you changed your mind for Hogsmeade next weekend yet?"

I consider this, far too aware of how close Jake is. I've refused Jake till now, knowing how he treats girls, and because of Scorp, obviously. But I can't wait for Scorpus forever, maybe it's time to move on...

"Promise that if I say yes, you won't treat me like shit." I whisper back, and he chuckles softly.

"Honestly Rose, if you were just a girl like all those other airheads, I would have given up ages ago, I've been running after you for the past month!"

He has a point...

"Promise."

"I promise, cross my heart and hope to die." he says, placing a hand over his chest, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

I smile, "Then yes."

On Saturday, I'm standing in the main hall, waiting, slightly nervously, for Jake to turn up, when Al and Zaza assault me.

"You're going to Hogsmeade with Aaron!? Are you mad?"

I scowl at my annoying cousin.

"No, I'm not mad! And what's it to you who I go with?"

"Are you sure about this, Rose?" Aliza asks, her hair a worried orange.

"Yes, I'm sure, Zaza. I trust Jake."

Al splutters, and opens his mouth, surely to shout at me, but Aliza just claps a hand over his mouth and pulls him towards the large double doors to go to Hogsmeade.

A few seconds later, slightly tanned hands are covering my eyes, and I slap them away, laughing.

"Really Jake! You couldn't be any more childish?" I ask mockingly, poking his stomach. I'm surprised by how hard it is. He must be hiding some pretty impressive muscles under that red t-shirt.

"Notice my inter-house unity?" He says, designating said t-shirt, and I grin, then unzip my jacket, showing my green tank-top.

"Way ahead of you, looser." I tease, and then grab his hand and pull him towards Hogsmeade, looking forward to an awesome day with Jake Aaron.

Hogsmeade really is freezing, so on the walk over through the snow, Jake throws an arm over my shoulders, and I snuggle into him gratefully. This seems to please him a lot, and his conversation is even more lively than usual.

We go to the Three Broomsticks, where Jake gallantly pays for both butterbears, much to my amusement, and he even accompanies me to look in a few dress shops. We also go to Zonko's joke shop, and Honeydukes. Jake doesn't try to drag me into Madam Pudifoots, much to my relief, I've always hated the cheesy atmosphere in there, but does insist on paying for the ridiculous amount of sweets I buy.

After a few hours shopping, we head over to the Shrieking Shack, and he throws his arm around me again, warming me up considerably.

We talk a while, and nibble at the sweets we bought, in fact, I'm having such a good time that I don't even try to pull away when he kisses me. I actually do the complete opposite, and kiss him back. It's not nearly as good as the kiss me and Scorpius shared, but good all the same, maybe even better than with Jun.

After a while of snogging, he pulls back and looks straight into my eyes, his green ones boring into my blue ones.

"Please go out with me, Rose."

I hesitate, thinking of Scorpius, and how much I miss him. Would it be betraying him to go out with Jake? I know how much he hates him...

Jake seems to read my mind, "You can't wait for Malfoy forever."

"Scorpius. His name's Scorpius."

"You can't wait for him forever, you need to move on."

I bite my lip, maybe it's time to give up on him, it will never work with our parents anyway... I look at Jake, see the fear of being rejected by me in his eyes, and the feelings he actually has for me.

"Do you really like me? Or am I just another conquest to you?" I ask hesitantly.

He takes a deep breath before answering, "You're not like all the other girls I've been with, Rose. I don't know if I like you as in love, but whatever it is, I think it's pretty close. All I know is that I don't want you to say no. I've never cared before now."

I look up at him. He looks like he's telling the truth, and he really is so adorable when worried.

"Yes."

"Yes?" His eyes light up, and he takes me hands in his.

"Yes." I answer, smiling and standing on my tiptoes to kiss him.

Ta Ta Ta Dum!
