Grand Entrance
I grip the broomstick Luna has just "passed out" with a wave of her wand, and prepare for the signal, which logically , should be impossible to miss.
It is. The bang reverberates throughout the airborne train, and causes the whole thing to shake in midair. Professor Longbottom opens the train door, smiling at me encouragingly, but my mouth is so dry that I can't do anything more than nod at him. I take a deep breath, then run towards the open doorway, and jump.
The long robe, which I had to wear for maximum effect, makes me especially visible by spreading out above me, and glinting with it's ever changing colors. Even in free fall, I can see the Durmstrang students in the snow below, pointing at me, and surely gasping or screaming, though I can't hear anything above the rush of wind in my ears. At the last moment, I slip my Nimbus 3000 under me, and shoot up just before hitting the dark water of the lake.
I can see the other students soaring out of the train on their broomsticks, backlit by a shower of red, green, yellow and blue sparks, which, as I watch, begin to take shape into the most incredible fireworks I have ever seen. The red sparks transform into a roaring lion, which stalks slowly around a giant yellow badger. Meanwhile, a hissing snake takes form with the green fireworks, and lunges at the lion, which turns around and takes a mighty swipe at it with its huge paw. A bright blue raven circles over all of these animals, occasionally lunging at the snake or the badger, as, meanwhile, the Hogwarts student weave in and out of the display, swerving away from the snake's lashing tale and diving to avoid the badger's claws.
I watch in aw as these beautiful creatures battle relentlessly, until, eventually, they work together to create the Hogwarts seal. Gold, silver, grey and bronze fireworks go off, and finally the shinning Hogwarts sign appears in the sky, with white letters weaving words underneath it, glittering softly, so that it looks like thousands of stars are forming the words : Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus, the school motto.
"Never tickle a sleeping dragon." I translate in a whisper, grinning. I then fly up to join the rest of the school, and we all trace patterns in front of the seal, trailing red, blue, green and yellow sparks behind us with our wands, depending on our house. Our long robes billow out behind us, creating a spectacular effect. At one point, I do a particularly sharp turn, and fall.
Once again, all I can hear is the wind rushing in my ears, and the flapping of my cloak as I tumble towards the earth. My fall is brusquely cut off however, when I land, hard, on Buckbeak's back. I immediately throw my arms around his neck, hugely relieved that this particularly daring trick worked, and then sit up again, waving at the Durmstrang students as the huge hippogriff flies towards them, and feeling immensely relieved that this daring trick worked out. They clap wildly, and the rest of the school dives down to join me as we soar towards them. Suddenly, we disappear.
Or at least, it looks like we do to the norwegians, who stop clapping and look around, seemingly puzzled. It's really a simple concealment charm which the teachers threw from the train, but to the spectators, it must really look like we disappeared. A bang sounds from the mountains behind the students, and they all turn around hurriedly, and stare at the scene which is unfolding before their eyes.
The castle of Hogwarts is rising up from the mountains, glittering white, with the occasional window through which you can see the norwegian night sky. It stays there, regal and beautiful, for a few seconds, and then an evil cackle resounds in the night, and all hell breaks lose on the castle. Giants appear and start smashing down the towers, while dark shapes with eight long legs climb up the walls, only to get blasted back down with short bursts of light. The whole castle almost seems to light up green with the amount of killing spells, and figures fall from the highest towers, limbs flailing and screams of terror accompanying them. It's a reconstitution of the battle of Hogwarts.
We watch all this in awe for about a minute, and then all action around the castle stops, leaving only ruins and the occasional person walking across the grounds. As suddenly as it stopped, the action starts again, as a giant snake slithers over the castle, curling itself around turrets and snapping them in half. We all understand what it represents, Voldemort's snake, Nagini. A glittering sword appears in mid-air, and is poised over the unsuspecting snake's head for a few seconds, before it swings down and slices Nagini's head off. Everyone laughs as the head falls back behind the mountains, little Xs representing it's eyes, closely followed by the body.
The sound of cheering breaks out across the Durmstrang grounds, representing the end of the battle, and words form themselves underneath the scene of the castle being rebuilt in a few second. They say : U-No-Poo, the Constipation That Was Gripping The Nation !
Everyone laughs at this, as it's the sign that's on the door of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.
We appear again, over the frozen lake, and all point our wands at it, making a large crack which causes everyone to turn around again, as we break a sheet of ice, and then pull out drops of water larger than our heads with our wands, which we hold as if they were quaffles as we go towards the group of Durmstrang students, which are clapping wildly at our performance. I smile, relieved that everything worked out as planned.
We land in front of the huge group of norwegians, and then hold up our drops of water, ginning wickedly before throwing them. The students scream, laugh, and cover their faces with their arms hurriedly, but the drops all stop centimeters from the first row's faces, and then drop to the ground, much to the student's relief. Wherever the drops touch the ground, the snow melts, and is replaced by red, green, golden, yellow, blue and silver flowers, which look like they're made out of shinning jewels and precious stones. The train bursts from the forest to the student's right, and pulls up behind us. The teachers and students that weren't involved in the entrance all jump out, almost everyone cheering wildly.
At that moment, I think that nothing can make me happier, but then I spot a dark red rose growing in the middle of the rest of the flowers. I immediately scan the faces of the Durmstrang students, until I see Scorpius, grinning at me and tucking his wand back into his school robes.
It takes all my willpower not to go hug him then and there.
…...
We're brought inside the school, and the Hogwarts students all let out a sigh of contentment as we step into the warmth of the great hall. As I take off my scarf gratefully, I look around at the huge room which we were brought into. It's quite gloomy really, with it's dark stones and flaming torches. There's a fireplace in every corner, but I doubt it really provides all the warmth in the hall. It's probably due to a heating spell or something of the sort that we're not shivering right at this moment. The walls are adorned with a few paintings of quidditch and dark wizards, which still surprises me, despite the school's reputation.
I feel a warm hand taking my freezing one, and start slightly, before I realise who it is.
"Scorpius!" I exclaim, hugging him tightly and ignoring the stares from the rest of the students at my outburst. He hugs me back, and we stay like that for what feels like ages, just holding each other like I've been longing to do for months.
Someone clears their throat next to us, and I reluctantly break away from Scorp to see who it is.
"As touching as your public displays are, Malfoy," The cold, callous voice of a tall man with dark hair and harsh features says, "I have specific orders from your father to keep you two apart, to avoid such scenes."
"And who are you?" I demand aggressively, clutching Scorp's hand.
"Mr. Ankher, the headmaster." He replies icily, and I feel my rebelliousness waver slightly under his gaze, but keep my ground.
"Well, F*ck off."
There's a collective gasp from the whole room, and Mr. Ankher's eyes narrow dangerously.
"How very poetic, Weasley, it makes me wonder why Mr. Malfoy disapproves of you."
"He disapproves because he's petty and childish, and can't forget his rivalry with my parents, so don't you dare pull that crap with me." I snap. Scorpius winces from my nails digging into his hand in my anger, but I ignore him.
"Rose, that's enough!" Luna exclaims, striding towards us and looking remarkably down to earth, for her.
"Yes it is. Tell that stupid man that nothing he can do will keep me and Scorpius apart, so he should just bugger off and give us all some peace!" I growl, and then drag Scorpius to sit down with me, Zaza and Albus, ignoring the stares of everyone around us.
Scorpius seems dumbfounded as he looks at me, and I grin at him.
"Didn't expect that for an arrival, did you?"
A smile slowly spreads across his face, "No, I most certainly did not."
With that, he leans forward and kisses me, right in front of the whole room of students who are still staring at us, but at the moment, I can't be bothered to feel embarrassed. All I know is that I'm back with Scorpius, and nothing can separate us.
The Headmaster pulls us apart, and drags Scorpius up to the teacher's tables, up front, separating us.
Okay, nothing except that infuriating man.
…...
"Albus." I hiss at my sleeping cousin.
"Geraway." He mumbles, turning away from me and snuggling even deeper into his blankets.
"Oh get up you idiot!" I hiss again, shaking him roughly.
"Dahwannagehup." He groans, curling up slightly, and I sigh frustratedly.
"Fine, then I'll just tell Zaza about how you always ran into the same glass screen at your house until the age of 8."
He bolts upright in his bed, "You wouldn't dare."
"Oh yes I would, if you don't give me your invisibility cloak right this instant."
"James has it." He groans, flopping back onto his mattress and gathering up his sheet around him.
"There, that wasn't too hard." I say, rushing out of the compartment where Al, Max and Jun are bunking.
"And Rose?" My cousin calls just as I'm sliding the door back into place.
"What?" I demand, pausing.
"Please don't tell Aliza?"
"Yeah, whatever." I reply, dismissively shutting the door.
I tiptoe down the dark corridor as silently as I can, until I reach the compartment James, Fred and Micheal are sharing. I creep into the room, and carefully close the door behind me so that it doesn't slam shut at the worst moment, before taking a step forwards in the dark room.
My foot lands on something soft and squishy, and I practically jump out of my skin when this something moves!
"Ow! What the heck?" Fred exclaims, waking up from his spot on the floor.
"Shut up!" I hiss once I've gotten over my surprise, but my cousin has already woken up James and Micheal with his complaining.
"Rose?" James asks, blinking as he looks at me blearily.
"Yes, but please keep quiet or you'll wake up the teachers." I plead, taking out my wand and lighting up the compartment just enough so that we can see each other properly.
Fred's eyes light up delightedly, "Oooh, our darling Rosie Posie is breaking the rules. Let me guess, you want James' cloak."
"I always break the rules, stop acting so surprised." I snap, "But yes, I do want the invisibility cloak, and if asking politely doesn't work, then I will use any means to get it." I add the threat at the end for good measure, showing that I am in no mood to be messed with.
"Would this, by any chance, be to see Malfoy?" James asks, grinning, but I just roll my eyes.
"No actually, I thought I'd go for a midnight dip in that freezing lake." I answer sarcastically, "Of course it's to see Scorpius you troll!"
"I'm allowed to ask!" he complains, holding up his hands, "So you basically want us to risk our cloak for your romantic ventures? We'll need some convincing to help you with that."
I point my wand at him menacingly, "Is this convincing enough for you?"
"Ummm... Yeah it is actually. Here." He digs around in the bottom of his sleeping bag, and pulls out the shimmering fabric. I roll my eyes at his paranoia, and grab the cloak from him before slipping out of the room, and throwing the invisibility cloak over myself as soon as I've slid the door shut.
One alohamora charm, several erasing spells (for my footsteps in the snow), and a quarter of an hour later, I find myself in front of the huge double doors which are the only entrance to the Durmstrang school, realizing what a stupid idea this was. I honestly doubt that a simple unlocking charm will work on this fortified castle, and even if I manage to get in, I have no idea where Scorpius' room is. I try to open the door in vain, but it's completely locked, and no amount of charms or spells are able to unlock it. I'm just trying Alohamora for the 6th time, when the door creaks open. I jump back in fright, and, to my horror, my feet get tangled up in the invisibility cloak. I tumble backwards, and the invisibility cloak slips off of me, leaving me completely visible and lying on my back in the snow, clutching the useless cloak in my hand. I'm bracing myself for discovery and a sever punishment when...
"Rose?"
"Scorpius?" I ask, amazed at my luck, as I vainly try to get up in the heavy, powdery snow, though every time I put a hand down to pull myself up, I just sink in even further.
Scorpius laughs at my pathetic attempts, and puts a hand out to help me up, grinning widely. I grab his offered hand, and then, smiling wickedly, tug him down into the snow next to me.
He yelps a tiny bit, but any other sound he could have made is muffled as he falls face down into the thick powder. I burst out laughing as he raises his head up slightly, revealing white eyebrows from the snow clinging to them.
He joins in easily, and then, turning onto his side, grabs my shoulders and rolls onto his back, pulling me on top of him. Our faces are inches apart, and he obviously makes the best of it, by closing the space between our faces and crushing his lips against my laughing mouth. I smile against his lips, and we proceed to kiss passionately, momentarily forgetting the cold, the dark shape of Durmstrang towering above us, and basically everything else in the world.
Half an hour later, we find ourselves sitting on a fallen tree trunk beside the lake, and basically talking about anything that crosses our mind. As I tell him about the changes at Hogwarts, I notice he becomes slightly distracted, and ask him what's wrong.
"I was just thinking... if I win the Triwizard Tournament, I'll be able to go back to Hogwarts, I could pay the fee with the prize money, and my dad couldn't do anything against it." He explains, biting his bottom lip in a way that's honestly very sexy, but I hardly even notice that, I'm so shocked.
"You're not really considering doing the Tournament?" I exclaim, pushing away from him and staring at his handsome face. He nods.
"Haven't you thought about it at all? What about Cedric Diggory, who died the last time there was a tournament?!" I demand, becoming slightly angry at Scorp's recklessness.
"That was because of Voldemort." He argues, "Besides, I'd do anything to get back to Hogwarts. I'm absolutely miserable here! Do you know how I spend my days? Thinking of you. Remembering random conversations we had years ago, remembering your smile, your laugh, and how it feels to kiss you. I spend every day thinking of how much I'd rather be at Hogwarts, as opposed to this gloomy school where the only person I remotely consider a friend is a girl who wears far too much make-up and annoys me incessantly! I can't keep living like this, longing for something I can't have."
I simply stare at him, feeling like I might cry at his words, "Scorpius..." I whisper, gently placing a hand on his cheek. His gaze burns into mine intensely, and I couldn't possibly tear my eyes away from his icy blue ones, even if I wanted to.
"If I win this, we can be together. My dad would never have any power over me, or us again." Scorpius announces, and I bite my lip as I consider this. Together. Uninfluenced by our parents, and no one able to tell us what to do or who to be with any longer. Together.
"Fine. But I'll protect you in any way possible. For this Triwizard Tournament, my name will be in the goblet of fire as well."
Our favorite couple is back together! Finally! I had originally planned stalling them getting together even longer by using Arla, the girl from Durmstrang, but decided that would be too evil.. ;P Next chapter is the choosing, and either the first task or a halloween ball, whichever I feel like doing.. ;) If you have any suggestions for the tasks, I would still like to hear them, even though I already have the first one planned out. ;P
Thanks for all your reviews! They really make me happy! XD
