The elevator dinged and Clark stepped across the threshold. He had a boquet of Iris's.
"Clark really you shouldn't have" said a croaky Lois Lane taking the flowers from him before he had chance to reply.
"Actually I didn't" Clark finally said but Lois was already walking away from him.
"Too sweet for words" Lois said just managing to keep in a laugh.
"How did you get that frog in your throat?"
"That's what happens when you get a neck massage from barbie the barbarian, the doctor said I shouldn't talk too much."
Clark felt a pang of guilt for not being there to protect Lois, yet try as he might he couldn't resist the chance to tease Lois.
"Gee that's too bad"
"Don't get your hopes up Smallville, It's not permenant" Lois looked at her watch "Ooh I gotta catch a plane in two hours and if I'm late the general will court marshal me so..."
As Lois was saying all this Clark was surprised how miserable he was to see her go, he had grown to like having her around despite how much he claimed to hate her.
"I wanted to thank you, you probably saved my Mom's life and you stood up for my Dad so..."
Lois interrupted him. What had originally been a teasing smile on her face had turned into a modest blush.
"Smallville thank you don't have to.."
"Lois you saved their lives and that means a lot to me"
"I'm sure it does, but not enough to give me a deluxe Iris arrangement" She smirked
"No, but how about a boquet of Lillies?" Clark said
Lois' mouth fell open. From somewhere she didn't know Clark produced a gorgeous selection of Lillies.
"I hope there OK, I asked Chloe and don't take this personally but you don't seem like a flower's girl." Clark smirked trying to break the awkward tension.
Lois took them still in a bit of shock. They were her mother's favourite flower and they always reminded her of Mom.
"Thank's Clark"
"Lois I want you to know that I appreactiate everything you've done for me. My parents love you and your welcome back anytime."
Lois smiled "Even if it means you giving up your bed?"
Clark looked undecided for a second then said "Yeah I think you'l have to sleep in the barn though"
"Fat chance" Lois laughed
The awkward silence returned and Clark watched as she tilted her head slightly as she was looking at him.
After a few more moment's Lois said "Clark I really have to go, we're going to find Lucy and bring her back."
Clark nodded and Lois thought she detected a grimace.
"I thought you would be glad to see the back of me"
"But that was then... and now.." Clark left the sentence hanging unsure how to continue.
"Aww I'll miss you too you adorable oaf" Lois wrapped her arms around him in a friendly hug, carefully minding the precious flowers.
She could feel him grin next to her face.
Then doing something that surprised the both of them Clark kissed her cheek.
Cursing the blush that was now covering her face and neck Lois squirmed a little out of the hug to look at him. He looked just a surprised as she felt.
She looked straight into his eyes. She thought he looked like he was going to kiss her again. He leant in and she didn't pull away. In fact she closed her eyes expectantly.
His lips instead went to her right ear. Where he whispered.
"Don't get your hopes up too much Lois their only flowers"
Her eyes shot open, she was now blushing from head to toe. She couldn't believe what Clark had just said to her. Who knew he had it in him.
Lois could see the teasing glint in his eye. She knew he meant no malice behind it.
"Shut up Smallville!" Lois seized him and firmly planted her own lips on his and to give credit to Clark was a completely willing participant. The Iris' Clark had brought for Lana were dropped to the floor unnoticed by both and Clark trampled them as Lois pushed him back into a wall still kissing feverishly.
