Previously: Robin leaves for several months to take care of family business, and like the last time he had been gone for a long time, the Titan's decided to raid his room to see what they could find. In the process, Raven discovers that Robin's room is where he does most of his major investigations. Two months later, Jump City is plagued with crime sprees, and it has run the Teen Titans ragged. They decide to visit Haley's International Traveling Circus which according to telepaths around the world, has been experiencing abnormal spikes in "mind pressure". After the show the Titans are alerted to the fact that a thief which had been caught by the Teen Titans trying to steal from LexCorp had escaped and was trying to break into LexCorp again.
Chapter Two
Beastboy grabbed the thief's shoulders and flipped over him, sweeping his feet out from under him. Before the thief could retaliate, he turned into a bird and flew up into the air where he took over the job of air support by dive bombing the thief and distracting him for the rest of the team. Meanwhile, the thief was simultaneously fighting off Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire's attacks.
Like last time, the thief was putting up a good fight, and Beastboy had to admit, although he had often complained about Robin's training sessions, he was now glad that he had attended, but above all he was glad that he had kept up with it and improved since Robin had left. Of course, that was more of a necessity than anything. After The Breakout, he had taken up martial arts with new vigor.
Several weeks after Robin had left the Hive 5 broke into a museum. A massive fight had followed where the Hive had put up more of a fight than usual. When they were captured no one had given it a second thought, after all they had put up such a huge fight, it was obvious they didn't want to go to jail this time around.
It had been a roués. The Hive 5 not only broke out before they entered their cells, but they also broke out every single prisoner from Jump City Maximum Prison. The guards had been overwhelmed, along with Raven and Beastboy. They had both split off from Cyborg and Starfire because they had been in the middle of a fight with Mumbo when the breakout happened. When the couple finally woke up, they found out that not only had the prison break been successful, but every criminal in the city had been freed from wherever they had been held.
The Teen Titans worked nonstop for several days to capture the villains, even Titans East came to help, at first it seemed like everything was going to be ok and Titans East left, but then the worst happened. Red X had made a broadcast calling the Titans weak and helpless without their leader. Stating that if Robin had been there, the breakout would have never even occurred. The media ate it up and soon the Titans had been labeled as wanabe heroes, with Beastboy had gotten the worst of it. He was called a one trick pony (which he could and often did turn into), unable to do anything other than head-butt an enemy. He was called thick headed, unimaginative wanabe hero who could do anything without his big bad friends to back him up.
It had hurt, badly, and Beastboy had been determined to become the best he could be. He had never learned how to fight solo because he had never fought crime without a team, so he went out at night and patrolled the city. Even though he often got beat up, he slowly learned how to fight of large groups of people, especially in small spaces like allies where he couldn't turn into something big and brush them aside because he would destroy the buildings.
He also got better at Martial Arts which he hadn't used excessively in battle before. Sure against people like Robin, he wouldn't stand a chance, but he was good enough that he could beat up people without turning into an animal. During the day when he worked with the rest of the Titans, he didn't use it as much, since he had people to back him up, but secretly, he felt like he was a lot more useful now and that made him happy.
He hadn't actually needed advanced Martial Arts until now and he was REEEEAAAALLLLYYYY grateful for all those hours of brutal training. Raven threw a car at the thief and he dropped flat onto the ground. Beastboy used that chance to come in low. Turning into a falcon, he dived the thief, but instead of pulling up like last time, he turned into a tiger and he prepared to land on him. The thief rolled out of the way, and spinning on his hands he kicked Beastboy in the head with all his might. He flew through the air and crashed into Raven who had come in low to detain the teenaged thief. They crashed right into the car and left a huge dent in it. The force of the blow knocked Raven unconscious, and Beastboy fell to the ground in pain.
Through the haze of pain that washed over him, Beastboy saw the thief launch himself onto Cyborg and in a move eerily similar to one he had seen a long time ago, he saw the thief grabbed Cyborg's shoulders and with a cry, he jumped down from Cyborg and heaved Cyborg into the air. Starfire squealed and stopped firing starbolts. She attempted to dodge Cyborg, but she was to close and they flew straight into the electric fence. They screamed and fell to the floor, silent.
"That was to easy." The thief complained. "I was expecting more of a fight." Beastboy froze. He knew that voice, but it wasn't possible. The thief started to walk away and headed towards the entrance of the building. Beastboy shook his head and attempted to block out the pain. He grunted and slowly got to his feet, "Stop right there! I won't let you get away!" The thief turned around and laughed. "Oh yeah! Bring it on!" They rushed at each other and the fight was on.
Beastboy was not as good as the thief in martial arts by any means, and to make it worse he couldn't transform into an animal and fight him like that because the thief had a nasty habit of sending him flying into something. He couldn't afford to pass out because he was the only thing stopping the teen from breaking into LexCorp and stealing weapons grade technology for some psycho to use. Unlike Wayne Enterprises, Lex Luthor wasn't afraid to make weapons of mass destruction, weapons that had the potential to wipe out entire cities. He wasn't as good as the thief, not by a long shot, but he was good enough to keep up with the thief.
There fight had turned into a sick dance. The thief would throw a punch and Beastboy would duck. The thief would then try to knee him, but Beastboy would turn into a kangaroo and hop into the air, getting behind him and turn back into a human in time to sweep the thief feet out from under him. The thief would then balance on his hands and try and kick him, but this time Beastboy was prepared and he hit the ground low and tried to kick the thief's hands out from under him… only for the thief to backflip away, pulling Beastboy's leg with him, and sending Beastboy flying over him, hitting his head with a harsh crack. The last thing he saw was the teen leaning over him, laughing at him with a taunting laugh that he swore he had heard before.
