Harry was jogging down the street with tons of zombies chasing on his tail.

The more he ran the more he encountered, some down the street, others came out of nowhere from the alleyways, stores, limping out of vehicles, falling off from roofs or windows.

He was part of the Parking Enforcement Team assisting civilians on Joshua Road when those things attacked, the entire unit is down, he's the last one standing, no civilians could be saved, the only savable one is himself.

He didn't wanted to die, at all costs, even if he may be called for a chubby coward for running away as things went south pretty quickly.

But it was by logic he had to! everyone was overwhelmed pretty quickly! everyone, his partners even himself are unprepared for this even with their weapons!

Running past zombies, pushing some away, for a moment he was losing hope but then...

"Attention any nearby unit this is 9812 and 5609, Eric and Elliott, we're at the Main Street, need of assistance over."

Finally some hope...! and the best of all it was a block away and to the right, he can make it!

...

...

- Main Street -

Harry lost 'em, finally, he panted and panted, looking from left to right, the once very active street with cars driving constantly was now completely empty, with the corpses of the undead laying around... maybe Eric and Elliott took care of them...?

Harry pulled up his radio and, as he kept the radio channel on, answered yet panting.

Harry: 222 here... [pant] from P.E.T... [pant]... i'm on main street...

Elliott: 10-4, i think i can kinda see you down the street... are you the one resting on the wall... with that security vest that looks like from a construction company?

Harry: Yes...! yes thats me...!

Elliott: Holy christ Harry i'm surprised you're still alive with your chubby ass!

Harry: S-shut the hell up...! i've been running for 8 minutes straight give me a break...!

Elliott: Sorry man... get over here quickly!

Harry looked to his right, he could barely see a small barricade down the street, simply consisting of generic crowd control barriers... either it last long or not is up to question, yet Harry jogged his way up there to the 2 white sofficers.

Harry: N-no way...! i-is it j-just the 2 of you?!

He yelled in surprise. Eric stood up as he was busy preparing something.

Eric: Uh yeah? dind't you know about the operation

Harry: What operation

Elliott: Eric remember that most of P.E.T haven't been informed about this.

Eric: Oh eh... well we've got orders from Chief. Irons that we set up multiple explosives all over main street, call the attention of those things big enough that looks like a parade, and then... well... boom boom...

Harry kept panting out of tiredness, but understood the situation.

Harry: Then... why is it just the 2 of you?

Eric: Well Chief here decided to use the rest of the units as bait to distract multiple of those things far away from us, then when we where ready we would call ya'll so we get all the cannibals here.

Harry: So the evacuations where just a bait...?

Elliott: Not really, but still, we've got the bombs ready, we just need to gather as much cannibals here as possible.

Harry: Hard to not get a entire block behind you...

Eric: Well uh... how do we put this...?

Harry: Oh don't tell me...

Elliott: Harry please...

Harry: No! i've been running for a entire block for 8 MINUTES! Give me a break!

Elliott: And you'll have it...!

Harry: Then why not one of YOU do it?

Elliott: I can't just leave the bomb prepper on his own!

Eric: And the detonator isn't ready yet!

Harry: WHAT-

Eric: Just...! you just have to attract them over here! they're slow so you can still walk past them!

Harry: I-

Elliott: Don't worry we'll think of a good reward for your bravery! think of it...!

Harry pondered while he sat down to the floor. Then sighed and nodded.

...

...

- Water Lane Street, close to the Apple Inn-

At long last after driving down the street, they reached the main evacuation checkpoint, multiple civilians rested and waited on the floor or near benches, still shooked, terrified, paranoid of the recent encounters with the undead.

Raymond parked the cruiser on the side, everyone except Raymond got out, quickly he maneuvered and a simple barricade with his car, along with other that had a collision god knows for how long ago.

Raymond got out from the passenger seat.

D.C. Raymond: Right so, take a rest everyone, vans should take you when the all clear warning is said, and you'll be brought to the police station.

He quickly announced to the civs. Most where relieved they could finally get out of this mess, others where still skeptical, but didn't said anything. Until one asked.

"Why don't you guys just get us out of the city straight away?"

Asked one man. Raymond hesitated to answer right away and attempted to find good alternative words to put in what he was about to say.

D.C. Raymond: Unfortunately many roads that lead to the exits are... overwhelmed... but we're doing our best efforts to take care of those things.

Then one woman spoke up.

"But my daughter just talked to me to the phone that multiple cops from the city aren't letting anyone enter or leave the city"

"Shit, no point in keeping it i guess...". Is what Raymond said in his mind.

"H-Hold on what...?!" yelled another man.

D.C. Raymond: W-Well we can't take the risk of people affected with this "disease" leave the city at the moment, nor do we want other people get in for their own safety.

"You're saying you guys quarantined the entire city?!"

Raymond: We can't risk it, as its possible this may be a disease, we don't want it to spread to other cities.

But that last fact, as expected, is what the civilians didn't listened to. Everyone was slowly turning against Raymond, complaining, yelling, begging, to be spared on being in quarantine.

Kevin: Alright everyone shut the hell up!

Everyone looked at Kevin as he yelled.

Kevin: Do you want to make this worse? do you want this same thing happening to anywhere you go? NO? Then quit the complaining and be grateful we're doing what we can to keep helping YOU ungrateful bastards to be alive and keep whatever this cannibal-disease in the city so it doesn't spread anywhere else! Just be patient for god sakes!

The crowd remained silent, other then some side eyes, glares, or looks of shock or despair, they decided to no longer go on with it and everyone stepped away from Raymond.

Raymond looked and walked to Kevin.

D.C. Raymond: Kevin that wasn't-

Kevin: Raymond look i respect you and all for being my superior, but you shouldn't take all the yelling of the people to yourself like this.

Raymond just sighed tired.

D.C. Raymond: Alright it'll let that behavior slide this time. Thanks.

Kevin: You're welcome buddy.

Mark and Emily rested.

Mark: You alright?

Emily: Yeah just... i...

Mark: There wasn't much you could do... the man turned and you had to do it for survival.

Emily: I... yeah... but eh... here have it...

Emily handed Bob's handgun to Mark.

Emily: Its Bob's handgun... i don't want it...

Mark stared at the handgun, but grabbed it regardless.

Mark: It was do or die, you had to do what's necessary...

Emily: Just like Kevin did with Bob...?

Mark remained silent. Emily did too, they didn't wanted to go on with the conversation.

...

- 10 minutes later -

At long last 2 vans where seen and stopped on the street, the driver of the first van got out and used a megaphone.

Kevin: Hey... is that...?
D.C. Raymond: Dorian? yeah.

Dorian: This is the Raccoon City Police Department, please try to stay calm, the vehicles are standing by to commence the evacuation, we need everyone here as quickly and organized as possible!

Nobody wanted to complain anymore, so in orderly fashion, they got behind the vans, one by one the civs got in, totaling just... 10...

Then Dorian saw Kevin as Mark and Emily got in the second van.

Dorian: Kevin?
Kevin: H-hey Dorian...! how's it going in the shithole...?

Dorian: Good to see you're still in good condition Kevin, so far can't tell if things are going to get worse or better... i just hope for the best...

Kevin: Same...

D.C. Raymond: Well that's it then? lets go.

Both officers nodded, Kevin got in the back seat with the rest of the civs and Raymond while Dorian got in the driver seat.

And so, they drove off.

[CALL STARTS]

"Sergei. This is U.S.S Command, Tucker, news have arrived from higher ups."

Sergei: I expected a web mail personally sent.

Tucker: I'm afraid we had problems with the servers recently, specially with the outbreak happening at Raccoon City. It'll get to the point. U.B.C.S operatives are needed to be prepared by tomorrow, and sent for civilian evacuation, "Monitors" are to have orders to the disposal of sensitive information implicating the corporation.

Sergei: Da.

Tucker: U.S.S clean up team operatives may be deployed as well, do not inform this to the U.B.C.S operatives, and only to the monitors when the units are deployed.

Sergei: Of course. Why the call for the team? you doubt the efficiency of my soldiers?

Tucker: They're mercenaries. Sergei. The U.S.S operatives are deployed as a extended force for the disposal information, in case U.B.C.S monitors cant get the job done, we also cannot risk for them to gain the information to extort or blackmail the company, or go rogue for the purpose of harming the corporation, as well as to deal with rogue internal agents, i may inform you 3 agents are attempting to black mail us with the confidential information.

Sergei: I see... i see... can i get a better status report on the Raccoon City T-Outbreak, news transmissions from the city stopped rolling.

Tucker: Operation Nestwrecker ended in failure, Alpha Team hasn't reported in the expected 7 hours after the Operation's start, the pilot "Nighthawk" reported members from the team had been yelling and screaming. From this point is just speculation, but it is possible Alpha Team has encountered an unexpected party that eliminated them, and T-Virus samples from the containment briefcase have broken out and spread through the sewers, rats may have been infected with T or for the worse G samples and infected the city's water reservoir.

Sergei hummed.

Sergei: Are you going to send another team to check on Alpha Team and recover any possible intact samples?

Tucker: We will do such act, however, not at this time.

Sergei: Reasonable enough. I guess after i sent U.B.C.S teams you will send both your clean up and recovery team?

Tucker: Certainly.

Sergei: Good. I expect you to keep me updated on the city's status, as well from the operations of your operatives, and from some of the none-rogue internal agents. So we don't get any possible mix-ups.

Tucker: I expect you to do the same with your "Monitors" and the field combat reports on U.B.C.S contact with B.O.W's that may be sent to the city after you deploy your forces.

Sergei: Will do.

[CALL ENDS]

...

...

...

Dorian and the second van where driving around carefully through the city's side streets.

Emily: Why can't we go to main streets or highways?

She asked concerned as the rest did so, noticing they're taking longer then expected to just get to the police station.

Dorian: The highways are too dangerous, good parts of it are blocked off by us the police or by multiple vehicle collisions, and no not even the tram system is safe, for now. So we're mostly limited to taking side streets.

Emily: Oh...

She looked down to the floor, kept silent.

They kept on driving, up until the van stopped suddenly, people gasped in absolute shock by the rough stop, the other one barely inches away from the back doors, slowly backing up.

Dorian: Damn...! another barricade...

"What's going on?!"

"Why did we stopped?"

D.C. Raymond: Everyone calm down! it'll go and check.

Kevin: Will do too.

Both officers got out through the back and went to check on Dorian, Dorian already stepped out from the driver seat, as he looked at the concerned police men, he decided to report immediately.

Dorian: It'll be quick, there's a barricade, and i don't think it'd be safe if we detour all the way around... we're pretty close at the RPD after all...

Raymond and Kevin frowned and sighed.

D.C. Raymond: Can't complain from that much at our current situation.

Dorian: From the map i have...

He said as he took out a very folded map that he took out from his uniform shirt pocket and unfolded to reveal the city map, and pointed with his finger their current location after some minutes from looking.

Dorian: We're at the... Warren and Luigi's built overbridge, we go westbound, walk a few kilometers and then southbound, from there its a straight road to the PD. What do you say?

Kevin: Well... hmm... considering its a main road it might be troublesome... however its the closest we have to the PD, so if we inform the rest to get their eyes wide open that we're coming straight towards them with a crowd of civs then it'll be good enough...

D.C. Raymond: The problem as you attempted to say, may be those things may be on the road, maybe some are around that the officers haven't taken care of, or are just recenlty passing by... it'll have to to contact dispatch for a status report on the road...

Dorian: So what you'll be taking? wait till we get taken care of the road hole or do you will walk all the way to the PD?

Both Dorian and Kevin looked at Raymond, since he's the superior of both. He sighed.

D.C. Raymond: We'll take our chances walking.
Kevin: Alrighty then!
D.C. Raymond: Dorian you'll be continuing the evacuations by vehicle?
Dorian: Of course.
D.C. Raymond: Alright, i need some one to take care of my vehicle.

Dorian: James, the guy from the shotgun seat at the second van can take care of it.

D.C. Raymond: Good then, it'll be taking my shotgun very quickly, be right back.

Raymond quickly came back to his cruiser, took his SPAS-12 Shotgun, as well as the box of shotgun shells, and gave some to Kevin for him to reload the borrowed Mossberg he has, let James know about the whole ordeal and gave him the keys to his cruiser.

D.C. Raymond: Alright, lets get it on.

And so Kevin and Raymond quickly informed the civs of their current situation, with some complains here and there, however none the less the plan of going on foot had to go on as such.

Walking to another walkaway in a side street and alleyways.

Soon they arrived at one of the city's footbridge that had a decent view to one of the citys main streets, everyone, was absolutely shocked, even Raymond, despite expecting it. And oddly enough a weird odor close to napalm.

Kevin: Oh god...

Mark: Oh that smell... thats and odor i don't want to experience again...

Emily: No...! no...! it can be...! so many...

And so everyone watched in horror as a eye widening huge long parade of zombies could be seen in the main street, there where so many that the line was almost seen infinite.

And that entire parade just barely holded off by a simple barricade and 3 officers, Elliott and Harry killing as many as they could, while Eric was close to finishing connecting the detonator appropriately.

...

...

Elliott: Eric what's taking so long?! hurry up!

Eric didn't mind the huge number of zombies just few feet in front of him, the sounds of the undead and the gunshots, he kept focus.

Eric: I'm trying i'm...! almost done...!

Harry began to panic already.

Harry: Oaaaah! its not gonna last hurry! hurry!

Then the barricades finally let lose and fell with the zombies, most on the fronts crawling.

Eric: ITS DONE!

Elliott: ERIC!

Eric looked in front of him to lastly see a horde of zombies to fall on top of him, eating him, it was absolutely painful that he already started screaming.

Elliott was gonna back off, but the crawling zombies got him by the legs and fell too succumbing by the undead.

All that was left was Harry, aiming handgun high at the zombies but backing up.

Harry: W-W-WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

He kept backing up, overwhelmed, he ran away.

Kevin and Raymond quickly looked at each other.

D.C. Raymond: Kevin-

Kevin straight up began running his way and went down the stairs to the main street.

D.C. Raymond: Kevin! KEVIN GOD DAMMIT!

Kevin: Get the civs to safety! it'll take care of this!

He yelled.

Mark: It'll go and help him!
D.C. Raymond: Wha-!

"That's suicide!"

One woman yelled.

Mark: I made it through 'nam, this ain't nothin'!

He yelled determined. Raymond doubted, but seeing that Operation: Mop Up all of the sudden went south, he nodded to Mark, as he ran down the stairs.

"W-w-what are we doing now?!"

Yelled another man

D.C. Raymond: Everyone follow me! quickly!

Raymond said as he lead the group of civilians on the path to the R.P.D, Emily was left last, she decided to stay, hoping for the best to Mark and Kevin.

Kevin: H-Harry is that you?!

Harry: Kevin?! oh thank god you're here! help me!

Kevin: The hell's going on wh-

Harry: Look look i-i-it'll be quick! these guys where doing some operation to plant bombs and take care of the zombies! the detonator's is on Elliott's and Eric's bodies down the street, please use it to blow these guys sky high!

Mark: SAY WHAT?!

Kevin: WOAH! M-Mark?! what are you doing here?!
Mark: What do you think? i'm helping you out!

Kevin: You shouldve-

Harry: STOP ARGUING HERE AND HELP ME! THOSE GUYS ARE GETTING CLOSER HERE!

Finally, not wanting to waste any more time, Kevin and Mark went out of their way, shotgun and pistol fully loaded, both men charged at the horde of zombies in the look for the detonator.

Kevin: MARK RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!

Mark quickly crouched as Kevin shot the zombie in half, falling to the ground.

Kevin: BEHIND YOU!

Kevin quickly turned around, and kicked the incoming zombie right in the chest, leaving it stunned, and shot at in straight in the face.

They had no time to thank each other, as Kevin quickly cocked the shotgun and shot another one that was walking straight to him to eat his face out and shot it in the chest, creating a huge hole.

Mark was trying to quickly get decent shots on the head to the rest of the zombies, but seeing as more appeared by the moment, he decided to push his way through the zombies to grab the detonator.

Kevin: MARK! MARK HOLY SHIT!

Mark fell under his weight, and his handgun slid on the ground, but alas he quickly got a hand on the detonator, only to realize it didn't had the handle.

Mark: Where the fu-?!

Then noticed it was a few feet away from Kevin was.

Mark: KEVIN THE DETONATOR! KICK IT TO ME!

Kevin: WHERE IS IT?!

He said as he ran out of shotgun ammo and used his handgun.

Mark: A FEW FEET IN FRONT OF YOU ON THE FLOOR!

Mark screamed as he hold off by the arm some zombies while avoiding to be bitten, pushing some away, and quickly was looking for his handgun on the road.

Then Kevin finally spotted the handle, quickly he pushed through some zombies and kicked the handle, as it slid on the road, a zombie got him on his back, nearly biting out his neck, he dropped the shotgun and pit his hands on the zombies chin and head, and got shocked that more where coming.

Kevin: GET THE FUCK OFF-!

Then the weight of the zombie got off, as he looked back, shocked to see Emily and Harry helping out.

Mark quickly saw the handle sliding to him, he crouched and grabbed it, put them together, quickly looked through the briefcase, watching the tons of wires, he connected the right one, and had his hand on the detonator.

He quickly contemplated, giving him memories from the Vietnam times, questioning if he should give the all-clear to send in the jets to burn the bush-hiding-soldiers, though its an action he regrets back in the day, this is a completely different context... war was better then this...

And so he pulled the lever... and truly... zombies went sky high as explosions filled the streets, debris and flying zombies where mostly seen, some burning cars that where close went up flying.

Everyone quickly took cover and ducked... the sound was deafening, the sight was slowly blinding.

And when opened their eyes, in just the press of a lever, the entire street that looked like it half the city's population, was now gone, only debris, shrapnel, body parts, the smell of smoke and fire, and the shocking sight of what looked like a street remained.

Kevin quicky breathed in and out.

Kevin: Now THAT was a rush...

He said as he got up, helping Emily out, while Harry helped Mark to stand up.

Mark thanked Harry nodded, Harry did the same, and he looked up in the night sky, mostly just seeing the thick layers of smoke.

Mark: I'm getting too old for this...

Harry: And i'm too young and underpaid for this...

Emily: We... we've made it... thank god...

...

...

Reinforcements from the code 3 calls have finally at last arrived, tons of cops from the PD and its other divisions, along with some officers of other departments and paramedics where now on the scene, providing assistance to Kevin, Mark, Emily and even surprisingly to Harry (despite the best he helped in was to gather all the zombies in the street).

Everyone rested as the other police officers with SWAT vans and more slightly heavy gear took charge of the situation.

D.C. Raymond: Nice to see you're still in one piece, all of you.

Everyone quickly turned to see Raymond.

D.C. Raymond: Kevin.

Kevin: Hehe yeah i'm... sorry man i-

D.C. Raymond: No, no its fine, you did good, reinforcements wouldn't arrive on time, so thanks for your assistance you sort of gave us more time for evacuation operations on the city.

Kevin: So we're basically heroes? saved the city?

Kevin gave a sarcastic response, Raymond sighed.

Kevin: Hehe, i'm just joking with you man.

He said between chuckles.

D.C. Raymond: It'll make sure you get a promotion after this Kevin.

Harry: And me?

D.C. Raymond: Thats up to question.

Harry: Oh...

D.C. Raymond: You where overwhelmed Harry, you did what you had to do.

Harry only nodded.

D.C. Raymond: And you 2.

He said to Mark and Emily.

D.C. Raymond: I, on behalf of the Raccoon City Department, thank you for your help, even though you risked your life, it was an true act of bravery.

Mark: Its just for the best.

Emily just nodded.

D.C. Raymond: Well then, lets get in my cruiser, want you guys in the station.

Emily: Oh yes please!

Nobody complained as they got in Raymond's police cruiser and drove parts of town's streets straight to the R.P.D. Everyone was stuck on their minds for a while.

Kevin (mind): Everything started to go wrong from then... no... maybe we just didn't realized things have been wrong for a long time... DEAD PEOPLE wander the city in the search for living... heh... when THAT becomes normal. I know that its time to just give up...

Mark (mind): This was just a horrible situation from the start... but the battlefield is always there to deal with... and you must always fight to win. That was all i could think of that time...

Harry (mind): Looking back, it was the beginning of a nightmare... seeing walking corpses and surrounded by flames... i couldn't help but wonder. How long will i last?

Emily (mind): Who could imagine such a day like this would've come...? with all the tragedies surrounding us i couldn't avoid but feel insignificant... but its different now that i will survive anything... i'm scared... but i HAVE to keep going...

And so passing front some barricades, they finally reached the R.P.D.
