Dear Diary,

Today is my 12th birthday, and what was one of the first presents I received was you. I suppose, I should introduce myself to you. My name is Thomas, but my friends call me 'Tart', because in the first grade I won a baking competition with my apple and lemon tart…

The small boy sat in his room staring at the diary as if expecting it to prompt him what to write next. The room the boy was in wasn't shabby, nor was it fancy. There was a comfortable looking bed with too many pillows, a bookshelf that was overflowing with a large assortment of books and a medium sized desk that looked as if it had never been cleaned.

A large shiny PC sat on one corner of it, contrasting the mountain of dusty pile of paper who sat on the other. A half full bathtub sized bowl of ramen and an empty plate of cake sat in front of the boy who was now chewing on the end of his pen as if his life depended on it.

The boy looked like any normal boy, tall for his age, had thick eyeglasses and was as thin as a piece of paper. He looked as if a slight breeze would break every bone in his body. He was wearing all red and was wrapped up in a thick blanket. He sighed to himself gazing outside of the window. Pallet town was a small but calming place. The warm air was pleasant and soothing, as if it cleansed all your bad thoughts and feelings.

Tart sighed to himself. 'Tomorrow is supposed to be the day' he thought to himself. 'The day when I finally get my own Pokémon'. Tart had turned down the offer of a Pokemon the previous two years, claiming that he wasn't responsible enough. But now, he was ready. He looked on his bookshelf and pulled out a book the size of a brick and flicked through it. 'I wonder which Pokémon I should ask for if I have the opportunity. An Oshawott looks cute, maybe a Poplio.'

He continued to flip through the pages of the book, looking at the pages of Pokémon the size of a stamp to those the size of a mountain until he stopped at a page. Mew.

Mew. One of the most mysterious Pokémon. The book said. It is believed that this Pokémon is the first one made by Arceus himself.

The book had a crude drawing of the creature, as well as a blurry photo that barely showed the creature. Tart smiled to himself. How cool would it be that he would be the person to find the Pokémon?

DING

Tart practically jumped out of his skeleton the sound came out of his window. Almost immediately he composed himself as he looked out of the window to see a familiar figure out of the window.

The boy outside was quite tall, and he had hair that looked like he had a fire on his head. He was wearing a large yellow and gold tracksuit that was made to show off his muscles and he had a smile big enough to dock an armada of ocean liners.

"Hey T!" The boy hollered, "ready to come down?"

Tart smiled to himself "be down there too Beige."

Tart stood up and threw on a layer as he jogged down to the door where Beige was practically nose to nose with Tart. "I enjoyed your party!" Beige said as he practically dragged Tart to the open road, "However its time for us to really hang out together."

The road was practically empty save for the few late worker coming home, however the bright lights from the streetlamps provided the kids with some sort of safety.

"But Big B" Tart said, "I'm not quite ready for a Pok…"

"Nahhh…not today" Beige said with a smile as he withdrew his Quilava out of his Pokeball, that immediately began to run around the street. "Anyway, I thought we agreed to see Lime for ramen, sushi and tempura."

"Your always hungry Big B" Tart said with a small smile.

"Hey!" Beige cried "I'm a growing boy! I deserve a treat okay!?"

"You had 4 slices of my cake this afternoon" Tart retorted.

"Because it was the best cake I ever had!"

"You're welcome, but I only had 3 slices."

"Come on! I need good food! That's what bro's do! Look out for one another."

"Yeah yeah." Tart said with a smile "I remember the Magikarp soup incident"

"Yeah." Beige said his face turning beet red. "The food tech lab was closed for over month because of that."

"And I had to take most of the blame."

"And I returned the favour by saving your life from that Sharpedo."

"Anyway, what are your plans for the summer?" Tart asked.

"Me?" Beige said "Well, Mom is in Kalos helping with construction in Lumiose City, and Dad has business in Unova so it's just me and Big Sis."

"And your brother?"

"Has a trip in Hoenn. He has a new partner with this reclamation of land company…I think his name was Maxie…what about you?"

"Oh, I don't know" Tart said "Get my Pokémon…Go around the region, maybe pop into Johto."

"Maybe. Let's just hope that Lime's Dad's boss has a good Pokémon for you."

"Yeah…" Tart said, more to himself than to Tart

"What Pokémon type do you think works best for me?" Beige said "I kind of see you as a dark or maybe a psychic type. Perhaps even Fairy"

"I see you more as a fighting type myself." Tart responded. "Or maybe a steel one"

"Why thank you" Beige said proudly as he flexed off his muscles to an invisible audience.

"This ain't a locker room Beige." A small voice said behind them. The two boys jumped out of their skin as they turned around to see a beautiful looking girl with long blonde hair. The girl was tall for her age, and she was wearing a royal blue dress that looked as if it cost all the money in the world. "Don't do that Lime" Beige cried.

"Sorry." Lime said in a mildly amused tone as she threw herself onto Tart giving him a rib crushing hug, "Happy Birthday Tarty boy"

"Thanks Lime" Tart chocked "How's Lemon?"

"Busy as usual" Lime said sadly. "She is all the way in Paldea helping to do some renovations to a school." Then almost to herself she mumbled "Stupid overachieving sisters, stupid mom always comparing me to her every 5 seconds." She shook herself as if her bones had turned to jelly "Anyway today is your birthday!" She said injecting as much enthusiasm to her voice.

"Thank you for that new game, Lime" Tart said "I look forward to playing it with you."

"Your welcome Tart." Lime said with a small smile.

"You two are the only people that I know that has the Jupiter, the 65 and the GamePlatform" Beige said enviously.

"Then why did you turn down my gifts when you were over at my place then?" Lime said in an overly restrained voice.

"I…well…my mother…" Beige stammered as if the words refused to come out of his mouth.

Lime sighed to herself "Anyway, what Pokémon are you thinking of getting Tart? I would recommend an Eevee; they are cute, and they can evolve into anything!"

"I don't know." Tart said, "I like all of your Eevee's, but I am not sure if I am up to it."

"I don't know what kind of trainer you would be." Lime said, "but I wish you all the luck in the world with it."

The three friends stopped outside a rather nice-looking restaurant, one that isn't too expensive but looks like it serves food that costs a fortune. 'Dragonite Noodles', the large sign declared that came with a crude image of a dragonite swimming in a large bowl of noodles.

The inside of the restaurant was nearly empty save for some half asleep businessmen and a tiny handful of employees, one of whom perked up upon the three entering the restaurant.

"Table for three please Lance" Lime said.

"Lime!" Lance cried clapping his hands softly "It's been a while since we met, how's your dad, brother and sister going on?"

"Same as always." Lime said weakly, "Both of them so busy that they leave me and my brother alone in the house."

"And Tart! How have you been doing! I hear it's your birthday today! Happy Birthday to you, my pal!" Lance said as he jestered for them to follow him.

"Thanks." Tart said.

"And Beige!" Lance said "I haven't seen you since…"

"Thank you, Lance," Beige said as he turned bright red "I rather not be reminded of that incident".

"Anyway! I hope you enjoy your birthday, Tart!" Lance said, "and I look forward to seeing you around."

Little did the small group of friends in a few hours time they will find something that will change their life forever.
