Bubble Buddies

It was a brand new day at the beach house, and on this particular morning, Steven was set on doing something very important. If not, it was to be the most important thing he'd ever do in his life.

At the moment, he was walking down the steps onto the sandy shore, wearing a red bicycle helmet on his head, and dragging along with him carefully a blue two-wheeler bicycle. However, the roar of a sudden earthquake suddenly emerged, causing the ground to shake tremendously. It also caused the bicycle to roll down the stairs, which Steven noticed and ran after to catch the bicycle before it broke by accident.

On the beach, Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst, and Moonstone were walking, examining the surroundings. Moonstone was looking through her notes on her notepad while Pearl was telling Amethyst, "I don't think they are earthquakes; they are too frequent."

"Note: perhaps the magma in the Earth's mantle is boiling into the crust and trying to expel itself, similar to the activity of a standard volcano," Moonstone theorized.

"There aren't any volcanoes in Beach City, so where would any lava expel from," Garnet asked Moonstone.

"Good point," Moonstone replied before the gems noticed the blue bike rolling up to them, with Amethyst commenting as Steven came over and picked up the bicycle off the ground, "Hey, look, Steven's got a bike"!

"Where are you going, Steven," Pearl asked curiously.

"Heading in or out of town," Moonstone asked as well.

Steven answered as he positioned his bike upright, holding onto it by the handlebars, "Just out for a ride."

"In the sand," Amethyst inquired in confusion.

"Yup," Steven replied before happily running off to go ride his bike.

"Note: I'm not exactly up-to-date on all Earth tech, but I am pretty sure the traction of bike tires would not hold a steady grip when in contact with the sand on the beach. So, how exactly is Steven going to be "riding" his bike," Moonstone pointed out.

"More importantly, where is Steven going," Pearl inquired, feeling slight concern that Steven might run into some trouble.

"Let's watch from inside the house, so we can see what Steven is up to without following him," Garnet proposed, which led the gems to head up to the beach house.

Meanwhile, Steven was out on his little "bike ride," which more looked like a struggle because he had a hard time trying to pedal it through the sand. But he was determined to ride it without hesitation. Why, you may ask was this boy doing this little task? The answered lied in what, or more specifically, WHO was up ahead.

Steven looked up and saw that sitting by the edge of the mountain was a young Indian-American girl with dark brown skin and a slim figure, who appeared a bit taller than Steven, who had black eyes with thick eyebrows, dark brown puffy hair that was currently at waist length, who wore magenta glasses with rose-tinted lens, and a white-mint green dress, a sunhat, and peach-colored boots with no socks. She was currently reading a book, not paying attention to what was around her.

Steven smiled, spotting the girl, and struggled to trek the rest of the bike trip over to her, stopping a sort distance away from her. He placed down the little pedestals to keep the bike in place, and said out loud, trying to look cool/get her attention, "S-smooth ride."

However, when he looked up to see if she heard him, the girl did not seem to be paying attention to him, more focused on the book she was reading.

Steven wasn't ready to give up, as he added, often looking back up to see if the girl was watching/hearing him, "Five speeds...Handbrakes...Electric-blue finish with the tiger bell."

Not even the adorable sound of his tiger bell ringing was enough to get her attention. But Steven still wasn't ready to give in, as he added while trying to get on his bike in a cool manner, "I bet there are a lot of kids who would love to ride this ba-"

But just then, Steven lost his balance and fell over, and it was this little incident that finally got the girl to look up at Steven.

Steven sat right up and saw that the girl had noticed what just happened, and while his cheeks flushed pink as he felt a little embarrassed/nervous, he threw his helmet off and let out a panicked shout before running off while the girl watched him run away.

Steven ran back into the beach house, slamming the door shut behind him as he took a moment to catch his breath. Nervous beads of sweat, partially from exhaustion, dripped from his face while he still was blushing in embarrassment, overwhelmed with a feeling of insecurity that things could've gone a little better.

Suddenly, looked up and saw that the gems, who had seen everything that happened from the window, were looking at him with curious facial expressions, prompting Steven to comment with a nervous smile, "What up"?

Pearl was the first of the gems to speak up, asking curiously, "Who were you talking to"?

"Huh," Steven replied hesitantly, trying to play it off like nothing happened.

"That girl," Garnet pointed out directly.

"The one whom you appeared to fall off your bike in front of," Moonstone added.

That made Steven a little surprised to hear that they had see what happened, prompting him to ask while he blushed again, "You saw"?

Getting a series of nods as his response, Steven shyly replied, "She is just a girl I know, except she doesn't know me. We've never talked."

Amethyst let out an excited gasp, realizing why Steven was talking to the girl, and exclaimed while squishing Steven's cheeks, "You like her"!

"I like everyone," Steven tried to rebut, but even he couldn't deny that he really did like the girl he was trying to talk to, and not just simply like, but "like" like.

"Aw, Steven has a crush! That's so sweet," Moonstone squeaked out happily.

"Let's set up a play date," Pearl suggested while Steven gently pushed Amethyst away from his face, while Pearl began to mentally organize a plan, stating, "I'll write up an invitation and work out a schedule. Oh, we'll have to find out her favorite kind of tea..."

"Pearl, it's a get-together, not a tea social," Amethyst commented with an annoyed sigh.

Before Pearl could divulge deep into her plan or come up with a remark to respond to Amethyst's comment, Garnet stepped in, addressing as a suggestion, "No. Just talk to her."

"Yeah, Steven; just relax and simply converse with the girl," Moonstone added on reassuringly.

Steven gave it some thought before replying, "Okay. But you guys can't watch this time! It'll mess up my funky flow"!

"Funky flow," Amethyst and Pearl both asked together in confusion.

"Sounds like the name of a river bend," Moonstone commented in confusion while scratching the back of her head.

"We won't watch," Garnet responded while adjusting her glasses.

"All right," Steven happily replied before he ran to the kitchen to get something.

He opened the freezer door and took out what looked like a red glowing bracelet. He held it in his hands, trying to keep it hidden from the gems, as Amethyst asked when she saw the glow, "What's that"?

"Nothing," Steven shouted as he ran out of the beach house and slammed the door behind him.

"Ah, the sight of first love. What could be sweeter than that," Moonstone commented with a sigh of awe.

"How about a tub of ice cream and a straight binge of video games," Amethyst suggested to the moonstone gem, saying as she headed to the temple door, "I'll be in my room if ya need me."

This led Pearl to let out an annoyed groan and facepalm while Garnet simply smiled and chuckled in response with Moonstone rolling her eyes to the purple gem's offer.

Back outside later on, Steven was walking over to where the girl was, and monologuing to himself various lines of how he wanted to introduce himself to her. He kept repeating over and over in different tones and accents, "Hi! My name is Steven. Hi! My name is Ste-van. Hi! My name is... Stephen."

Just then, another roaring rumble shook one that prompted Steven to stop walking andf hold his ground. Just then, he looked up and saw a chuck of rock break loose and about to fall onto the girl he tried to talk to before. Quickly acting to save her, he ran forward and tried to push her out of the way, shouting as he did, "Hey! My name is Steven"!

His gem glowed and a pink rose-like flower blossomed over the pair before it encased both kids in a pink solid bubble, one that protected them from the rock chunk that merely crumbled into pieces upon impact with the bubble.

Steven almost couldn't believe that he had just done that! In shock, he asked himself while looking at the bubble in its entirety, "How did I do that"?

He then looked down at the girl that he saved, introducing himself with a grin, "Hi! My name... is Steven"!

The girl was still a little shocked by what had just happened but regained enough composure to adjust her glasses and respond back, "Connie," introducing her name to Steven.

Steven offered to help her up, with Connie accepted the help and getting gently brought back up onto her feet while she asked Steven and looked at the bubble that the pair were in, "What... happened"?

Steven answered as best as he could, "I'm magic. Well, half-magic; I'm my mom's son."

"You did this," Connie inquired, almost surprised by the fact that this boy, whom she just met and told her that he's half-magic, was capable of doing this.

Steven replied back, "Apparently," before he added, "I'm a member of the Crystal Gems; we fight monsters and protect humanity and stuff."

This was a shocking fact to hear, yet one that Connie found herself relating to...in a sense, as she brought up, "Oh, that's kinda like my dad. He's a cop, well, more like a private security guard."

The pair remained standing in a small awkward silence for a brief moment before Connie, who noticed that the bubble had yet to have disappeared, asked Steven, "Sooo... how long does it usually last"?

Steven realized that Connie had brought up a good point about the bubble still remaining, commenting in response, "Oh, right," while he tried to reactivate his gem so the bubble could go away. But, tried as he may, the bubble still seemed to stay up, no matter what.

The sight of Steven struggling, or at least she thought he seemed to be struggling, had Connie ask in concern, "What's wrong"?

"It, uhh... doesn't seem to wanna go away," Steven hesitantly answered with a nervous smile, trying to make the situation not appear as severe as it does already.

The girl understood what was going on, but there was a hint of worry in her voice, and Steven was determined to make sure nothing bad happened to her, so he was gonna do everything he could to get this bubble popped so he could get them both free! He tried to push on one side of the bubble, hoping that the force of his pushing would pop it. As he did it, he also tried to make conversation with Connie and started things off by telling her, "So, I don't see you around that often."

"My dad works for a bunch of different beaches, so we are never in the same place long," Connie explained as she came over and helped Steven push on the side of the bubble.

Connie's statement gave Steven a glimpse of hope for something that he and Connie could connect on, as he happily responded, "I go on adventures with the Gems sometimes. They usually say it's too dangerous for me though."

While the pushing didn't help pop the bubble, it did make Steven fall over momentarily and it helped move it though, freeing it from the rocks that trapped it in earlier, before Connie asked, "Do you always go in a bubble"?

Steven replied as he got back onto his feet and started to help push te bubble again, "No, this is new; I don't know what this is."

Worried his statement would scare Connie, he immediately added, "But it's okay! The Gems will know what to do."

Together, Steven and Connie pushed the bubble up the path that would lead up to the beach house, with Steven thinking that if anyone could help break this bubble, it was the gems.

However, their little bubble pushing had one denominator that made it hard to do so; gravity, which made the bubble roll back down, causing Steven to shout, "Ohh, what," when he saw they were back on flat land and not up by the stairs.

He tried to call the gems out, shouting as loud as he could, "Hey, guys! Garnet, help"!

But none of them came out, mainly because inside the bubble, no one could hear Steven shout because it muffled his voice, and it was this factor that Connie pointed out, "I don't think they can hear you."

Steven then realized one other factor that he failed to remember, face-palming as he addressed, "Oh, that's right. I told them not to watch."

"We can just wait here until they come out," Connie suggested, though Steven could tell that the look Connie had was one of concern.

Not wanting to let Connie feel too worried about what was going on, he commented reassuringly, "No, no, no, it's okay! I've got other friends that can help"!

Steven tried to think of who he knew that could help him and Connie break free from this bubble trouble, before an idea came to him, making him smile in determination.

At the Big Donut, Lars and Sadie were currently on their work shift when they heard the door go THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

Lars looked up from his phone, saying with a lack of interest, "We're open."

Sadie, however, noticed that outside, through the windows, there appeared to be something pink, and whatever it was might be whoever was making that THUMP! noise on the door.

She walked away from the counter and went to open the door, saying at first, "Can I help-WOAH"!

Her sentence got interrupted when she saw Steven, and Connie, whom she didn't know yet, both in a gigantic pink bubble, and Sadie's exclamation prompted Lars to look up from his phone, the boy becoming shocked himself.

"Steven! What happened," Sadie asked while looking up and down at the bubble.

Steven scratched the back of his neck while answering, "It's a long story, Sadie, but Connie and I are trapped in here. Think you can help us get out"?

Sadie took a closer look at the bubble, giving it a gentle poke, before saying, "Well, I can certainly try. I think we have a hammer lying in the back room. Lars, can you go get it"?

Lars immediately scurried into the back room and came back carrying a hammer, giving it to Sadie.

Steven and Connie stepped back, pushing the bubble back so there was room for it to pop, if this idea worked. Meanwhile, Sadie gripped the hammer and started to hammer it into the bubble, thinking it'd be strong enough to break it.

Lars, meanwhile, was having a laugh about the situation. He had known prior to this that Steven wanted to try and impress Connie, mainly because the boy would not stop talking about it whenever he came to the Big Donut over the past few days. So, to him, this bubble Steven had seemed like a gigantic romantic gesture for him and Connie to spend some "date time" together.

He continued to laugh, saying to Steven while making a series of different silly facial gestures, "Way to go, Steven! Is this your magic love bubble or something? Did you make it because you're in love..."

Steven turned to face Connie, telling her, "That's Lars; we are basically BFFs."

"He makes weird faces," Connie addressed, cringing uncomfortably as she and Steven noticed the facial expressions Lars was making on the surface of the bubble.

Sadie had also noticed this and retorted to the boy, "Lars, quit being a jerk and help"!

"What? I'm helping Steven on his date," Lars plainly stated back in response.

Sadie knew that wasn't true, arguing back, "You're embarrassing him"!

"Oh, I'm not..." Lars argued back, the two workers getting into a verbal argument, all while Steven and Connie were watching, with Steven telling Connie, "He and Sadie run the Big Donut."

"Do they get along," Connie asked curiously, pointing to the two arguing workers, while Steven replied, "They're crazy about each other."

When Sadie started to grow weary from hammering, she dropped the hammer and ran back inside the donut shop, declaring, "I'm gonna go try something else"!

Steven then decided to change the subject and talk about the Big Donut, explaining to Connie, "Anyway, this place has the best donuts. I come here like every day."

Connie mentioned in response, "My parents don't let me eat donuts; They have trans fats."

This shocked Steven a lot; who in the world doesn't eat donuts?! And it made him reply with a loud, "Whaaaat," before he added with a sheepish smile, "Well, it's still a cool place to hang out."

Sadie came running back out, swinging a stool against the bubble in hopes that would break it. However, instead of the bubble breaking, the stool was the item that wound up being broken.

Seeing this wasn't working, Steven suggested to Connie reassuringly, "I have a better idea."

The next stop on the little mission to break free from the bubble was the docks, where the boats and ships all rested, ready to be out on the sea.

The sight of all the boats was amazing to Connie, who commented happily, "Whoa, a trawler, and a little skipjack"!

Steven was impressed by Connie's knowledge of boats, pointing out, "You know a lot about boats."

"That's what happens when you hang out at the beach and don't swim, and don't have friends; y-you look at boats.," Connie replied, adding that last part a little sadly.

Steven let out a little nervous chuckle, not really sure how to respond before he saw someone coming that he thought could help, calling out, "Oh, hey! Onion! Onion"!

Onion, who was a fair-skinned boy with a small tuft of blond hair and a chubby face that framed his onion-like head, who wore a white sweater, a deep periwinkle shirt tied around his neck, and pale red footie pants, was running along the docks carrying a tub of popcorn when he heard Steven call his name and stopped, turning around and facing the boy in the bubble.

Steven explained to Onion, "We need a harpoon gun"!

Just the sound of the words "harpoon" and "gun" was enough to make Connie a little uneasy, asking, "What" in confusion about why they needed a harpoon gun.

And Steven's response to that? "To pop the bubble"!

The logic was...scarce, and the idea itself sounded dangerous, which lead to Connie asking nervously, "Can't we just go back to your house"?

Steven tried to reassure Connie, telling her, "It's okay; I'm a Gem."

It didn't do a lot to put her at ease, but it did give her a small sense of hope that perhaps the idea, as crazy as it was, could possibly work, and watched as Steven tried to explain to Onion slowly so he would understand, "Onion, we need a harpoon gun! Har... poon... guuuun"!

Onion ate his popcorn innocently, looking completely oblivious to what Steven was telling him.

Steven sighed, deciding to use another way to tell Onion about what they needed. He breathed on the side of the bubble and drew out an image of the bubble, the sea, the sun, and the harpoon gun on one of the nearby boats being launched at the bubble to pop it, while spelling out slowly, "Haaaar... poooon... guuun."

That didn't seem to work either because Onion continued to happily at his popcorn and showed no response whatsoever to understanding the task, leaving a frustrated Steven to facepalm tiredly.

Connie found Steven's idea to be useful, but perhaps it just needed to be done a different way. She gave Steven a reassuring smile and said, "Let me try."

She walked up to the side of the bubble and breathed on it, before spelling out the actual words "harpoon gun" on the wall. That time, Onion finally got what the kids were saying, and went to go get what they needed.

Steven was very impressed with Connie's tactic, as Connie happily explained, "It just made more sense."

Suddenly, the sound of a ship's horn blaring startled them both as they turned and saw Onion standing on a barrel of a nearby ship, ready to fire a harpoon gun at them. With a flick, the harpoon was fired, but instead of popping the bubble, it bounced off it and broke through the trawler, making it sink, with Connie saying sadly as she watched the boat sink, "The trawler..."

Steven felt awful; at the same time, he was also growing very worried. there had to be a way to break out of this bubble! Then, he and Connie could finally have a proper talk and they'd have fun- fun...fun...wait a minute! Steven suddenly got a great idea of where to go next.

His idea led him and Connie to the entrance of Beach City's greatest attraction: the Funland Amusement Park!

"Funland," Connie read the entrance sign in confusion.

Steven and Connie began to push the bubble and rolled into the theme park, with Steven happily explaining, "Yeah! Tons of horrible accidents happen here every day! There's gotta be something to break this bubble."

Connie felt a little unsure about the idea, letting out a worried, "Um...," while Steven had his eyes peeled, saying while looking around, "We just gotta find the right ride."

Luckily, he found the perfect ride that he knew no bubble could resist: the Appalachian kiddie coaster! It went so fast, the cars could travel through a train and come out the other side! Determined, he and Connie headed towards the roller coaster, waiting by the edge of the waiting platform, while Steven explained, "All right; we just roll down this ramp, as the carts are coming at us, and the crash will break us free"!

That plan made Connie's initial concerns rocket sky high, especially after almost getting harpooned by the docks earlier She admired Steven's creative thinking, but was baffled by how very little concern of danger that he possessed because this idea had "death trap" spelled all over in capital letters! Plus, she brought up, in nervousness/hesitation, a very solid question that had her worried most of all, "What happens after the bubble pops"?!

"We'll be free," Steven answered whole-heartedly, oblivious to how crazy and dangerous the idea was!

"Steven, this is a bad idea," Connie pointed out, not wanting herself or Steven to get hurt doing this.

Suddenly, another roaring rumble shook the Earth, and Steven wasted no time making the bubble roll onto the coaster tracks, shouting, "This will work"!

Connie and Steven shouted in panic while rolling for their lives down the tracks as the roller coaster carts pushed them along. The man working the ride saw the bubble and pulled a lever to make the carts stop, but the friction of the carts stopping made the bubble roll off the tracks, sending Steven and Connie deep into the ocean.

The bubble luckily didn't pop as it sunk to the bottom of the ocean, and luckily for both kids, it was airtight, so they could breathe while in the bubble.

Connie's glasses had fallen off upon impact of the crash, so she wasn't able to see at first where they landed, asking while trying to see, "Where are we"?

"The bottom of the ocean," Steven answered as he gave her back her glasses, adding reassuringly when he heard the loud gasp of shock she emitted, "It's okay"!

Things might've seemed ok, but Connie was the only one not feeling ok, asking in concern, "Are we even close to the shore"!?

"Yeah, sure," Steven replied nervously, mainly because he had no idea if they were close, before Connie suggested, "Let's start rolling."

The pair began to roll the bubble along the sea floor, with Steven mentioning, "It's a good thing this bubble is airtight, otherwise, we'd be drowning right now."

Just hearing that didn't do any good on Connie's nervous tensions, with Steven trying to make things a little better, saying reassuringly, "Don't worry, Connie; I have an idea that will definitely work. When we get back..."

However, he couldn;t even finish saying his sentence because what both kids saw next was breath-taking and scary at the same time! Swimming in front of them was a gigantic, transparent, jelly-like white-and-orange worm, with some sort of gemstone, tentacle-like appendages, and a circular leech-like jaw. Just the sight of it alone made Connie cover her eyes in fright while Steven commented in shock, "A huge worm"!

He watched the worm swim and eat some glowing seaweed, which gave him the impression that it only liked to eat bright stuff, which was reassuring for them...right?

That was what Steven thought, as he told Connie, which seemed to help her relax a bit. "It's okay! Look! It only wants to eat that bright stuff. See? Not scary at all"!

Yes, witnessing a gigantic worm-like monster eat seaweed and have about 3 dozen sharp teeth in its mouth was totally not scary at all...but what happened next was probably even scarier, because it let out a defying roar and burrowed underground, the digging motion causing the ground beneath the bubble to crack, which lead them to fall into a deep trench.

Inside the trench, it was dark, with only a few hints of glowing anemones and coral to illuminate it. The fall had hurt Steven and Connie slightly, the bubble providing air and protection, but what Steven saw had him really worried. When they had landed, one of his feet...wound up on Connie's, not kicking her by the slimmest of margins luckily.

Steven saw what had happened and got up, saying in concern, "Sorry! Are you all right"?

Connie didn't say anything, and it was hard to see her facial expression because the light made her lens glow, hiding her eyes behind them, but the silence had Steven thinking that Connie might be feeling worried. He tried to be optimistic about the situation, saying, "It's not so bad! It-it's okay! I uh..."

Finally, Connie couldn't take it anymore, and in a fit of frustration and fright, she shouted, "It's not okay"!

The shout startled Steven, who listened as Connie exclaimed, "You keep saying that, but you don't know what you are doing! Now we are going to suffocate or starve at the bottom of the ocean, and only my parents will notice because no one else cares about me"!

That part made Steven blush a bit, but at the same time, he also felt...sad. He felt sad for Connie; why would no one care about a special girl like her? It wasn't only sad, that was... heartbreaking.

And when the light died down, he could see the tears flowing from Connie's eyes, with Connie sadly stating, "I'm gonna disappear without ever making a single friend," before she dropped into a sitting position and curled up, crying into her knees.

Steven felt his chest tighten in guilt; it was his fault that they were even in this mess, to begin with. At the same time, he also felt really bad for Connie too; no one deserved to be friendless.

Suddenly, Steven felt something in his pocket and pulled it out, revealing the glow bracelet he had brought with him. He looked at the bracelet, before looking back at Connie, and it came upon him what he could do to help her feel better.

He showed the bracelet to Connie, who looked at it in surprise, as he said with a sincere smile, "We could be friends"!

Connie was...speechless. Even with tears still flowing, she felt...so touched. No one was ever this kind to her; yes, today had been quite a hectic mess, but...the fact that this boy, Steven, had wanted to do so much to help her out of this situation, looking out for her...it was...so whole-hearted. And the bracelet-wait a minute. that bracelet...it looked... familiar?

Steven noticed that Connie seemed to recognize it, as he explained, "I saw you at the boardwalk parade last year. You dropped your bracelet. I picked it up, but then I couldn't find you."

Flashback to last year...

Connie was at a parade, but soon turned to leave, dropping the glow bracelet as she left.

End of flashback...

"I saved it in the freezer, so it would last longer, in case I saw you again," Steven added sincerely.

Suddenly, something clicked in Connie's mind, making her say, "Oh, wait! I thought you looked familiar"1

"I...do," Steven asked in confusion.

Connie nodded, explaining, "You were the kid on the car-wash float."

Flashback to last year...

Steven was sitting on top of Greg's van, which was decorated to look like a car wash's scrub brush, wearing a purple car wash uniform, and had bubbles in his hair, waving at the people watching the parade.

End of flashback...

"You had soap bubbles in your hair," Connie mentioned, stifling a chuckle that built up as she spoke.

Steven chuckled too, feeling slightly embarrassed, shown by the prominent blush he had, as he replied, "I-I was supposed to be a scrub brush."

Steven then placed the glow bracelet on Connie's wrist while apologizing sadly, "I'm sorry, Connie. If I had returned your bracelet back then, you wouldn't be stuck in this bubble with me now."

This time, Connie was the one who reassured Steven, saying with a genuine smile, "No, it's okay. I'm having fun."

Steven couldn't help but smile back in response, glad to see Connie was having some fun, despite their situation. And truth be told, both kids felt...content that they were at least facing this...together.

Unfortunately, the moment came to an abrupt end when the bubble finally popped, freeing them both, but also now trapping both kids, who struggled to hold their breaths, underwater.

Steven helped Connie swim up to the surface of the ocean so they could breathe.

The water looked still for an eerie minute before it broke and the sounds of both Steven and Connie gasping for air came through. Treading water to stay afloat, Connie soon found herself, strangely, immersed in laughter, breaking into a happy giggle, with Steven following tout suite and laughing alongside her.

But the moment did not last because, behind them, the giant worm creature from earlier emerged from the water, letting out a defying roar, set to attack them. It made a huge splash, sending a wave that brought both kids onto dry land before it slithered after them.

"Come on, come on," Connie shouted as she helped Steven to his feet, and they both ran to try and get away from the monster.

Connie shouted as she headed up towards the rocks, "Hide in the rocks, Steven," while Steven ran to take cover under the large boardwalk.

Just then, he heard Connie's panicked scream and saw the monster inching towards her, trying to reach her for some reason, making Steven question, "Why is it chasing us"?

Suddenly, Steven remembered that back underwater, it was eating glowing seaweed, which led him to think that it liked to eat bright stuff. And the only thing currently on them that was bright was..., as Steven soon realized when he saw Connie's bracelet, "The bracelet! It eats bright stuff"!

"Connie," Steven shouted as he ran to her.

"Steven," Connie shouted as she ran as fast as she could away from the monster before seeing Steven run up to her, asking, "Give me the bracelet"!

"What," Connie asked in confusion as she slipped it off and gave it to Steven, who replied, "It's okay! Now, go! Go! Run that way," and guided her to run off in a different direction while he held the bracelet high, luring the monster to chase him and not her.

"I'm sorry," Steven shouted before he began to execute his plan; if the monster wanted to eat something bright, he was gonna show him why "knot."

He ran past a lot of the boardwalk poles, making the monster weave by them, trying to catch him. Once Steven got it tied up really well, he ran over to Connie and stood by her side, watching as the monster got stuck, and struggled to pry itself free. However, the force of it pulling was also causing the boardwalk pole to break. Connie and Steven both held hands, determined to face whatever came next together.

As for the monster, it soon pulled so hard, the boardwalk collapsed onto it, causing it to get severely hurt, and poof back into its spiky gemstone.

The sounds of the boardwalk crashing were enough to have the gems come running out of the house, shouting in unison/concern, "Steven"!

"Steven! What's going on? What did you do," Pearl asked, taking the initiative of if Steven was harmed or not.

"What in galaxy's name happened," Moonstone asked while surveying the damages of the battle.

Steven was about to answer, but Connuie, who was incredibly impressed by what Steven had done and inspired by his bravery, exclaimed excitedly, "It was incredible"!

Steven was surprised to hear that, asking, "Really? You mean it," and got a happy nod from Connie in response.

Garnet ran over to the gemstone and bubbled it, sending it off to the temple, as Steven gave Connie back her bracelet, saying, "Here's your bracelet... again."

"Thanks," Connie answered while holding the bracelet.

Amethyst, Pearl, and Moonstone came over, and the trio excited to see Steven and Connie interacting so well together. Amethyst soon chimed in, asking Steven, "So, are you going to introduce us"?

Steven started to blush in embarrassment again while Pearl soon chimed in, saying, "Steven was so excited to meet you! Right, Steven"?

Steven was growing a little nervous, and finding it hard to speak again, while his cheeks burned with a prominent pink.

Moonstone stepped in, saying, "Note: He's been telling us all morning about how much he's wanted to talk to you."

Just then, Garnet soon stepped in, picking the trio up while saying, "Hey! Don't mess with his funky flow," and started to take them back to the beach house.

This left Steven and Connie alone on the beach again, with Connie asking Steven in confusion, "Funky... flow"?

Steven was still blushing as he found himself at a loss for words, unable to talk, as he could only nervously let his mind race about what he could say next.
