Onee-san! Misty-oneesan!
Toby! You're… you're back!
I've missed you, Misty-oneesan! Laughing, he leaped into his older sister's open arms but crumbled to dust just upon contact. No matter how many times he was reformed, in the end, it was just another illusion.
It had been five whole years. Sixty months. Nearly two thousand days since he was taken from her.
Why? Why did it have to be him? An innocent young boy with an entire future ahead of him?
Why did it have to be my little brother?
The memory remained clear as glass. After countless days of searching, Toby's body was finally discovered at Daimon, buried under the rubble in the wake of the Black Rose Witch. Upon hearing the news, Misty had dropped her phone in complete shock and it had slammed down on her foot, but she didn't even feel the pain. The mix of shock and numbness in her body caused her to later drive off the road into the sea of darkness. Everything after that was abruptly cut off, as if a movie suddenly stopped playing.
There was a period of her life where Misty did not remember anything, yet she did recall summoning the vengeance for her brother. She remembered how, for the first time in her life, she was in charge. She felt she was able to crush her enemy with her bare hands.
But as she found out Divine had been the one to murder her brother in cold blood, a wave of power surged through her body. Once Ccarayhua ate him alive, everything else she was led to believe simply… evaporated. From the darkness sprung a beam of light that glowed before her eyes. Even after everything that happened, she had never felt so much at peace. Her heart had burst with elation and all at once, it was calm again.
The next thing she knew, she found herself back in the world of modeling. Life had resumed, but did not return to normal. It was also around this time that the spirit of Ccarayhua began to haunt her dreams, jolting her awake and drenching her in sweat. Why did she not remember what this creature meant to her? Yet the hissing from its tongue sounded familiar, its incoherent mumbling seemed to make sense, and the grey surroundings all felt familiar. It was vague, but it was there.
Always there.
Is it foreboding my death? Or have I already been here before?
The dreams were frightening, and worst of all, unceasing. Misty continued sending letters to Aki to lead her mind elsewhere. Anywhere was better than the engraved image of Toby's body which never ceased to haunt her. She hoped that in time, the troubles of her mind would disappear. If pain could no longer hurt her as much, would she someday be able to forget the sorrow, too?
She shook her head; it was impossible. It was her destiny to be bound down by the chains of his death.
Will I ever be free again?
