Sylvix Week 2022. Day 7. Hand-holding + Jealousy
Felix and Sylvain have been dating for nearly a year now, and he knows Sylvain doesn't mean anything when he flirts with girls. Still, sometimes actually seeing it makes him a little, well, jealous.
Enjoy, and please let me know what you think!
Day 7.
Felix' day had started out as normal. Waking up next to Sylvain, wiggling out of his grasp to get some clothes on and head out for a quick breakfast, then off to the training grounds, where he spent few hours practicing. After that he talked with the Professor about his certifications and classes. On the way back he stopped to pet some of the cats, since them being attention-seeking creatures that they are, wouldn't leave him alone until they all got some chin-scratches and pats.
Now he's walking past the dining hall, on his way to the pond. He considers spending a bit of his time fishing. The Professor had recommended it, saying it might help him relax a bit, as he's apparently often too wound up from his training. That's when he notices Sylvain. With a girl. He knows he probably shouldn't, but sneaks a bit closer anyway, to hear what they're saying.
"I could take you out for lunch," Sylvain says, giving her that charming, flirty smile while leaning way closer to her than necessary, lightly playing with her long hair. The girl is eating it up, smiling, blushing, clinging to his arm and leaning in close to him.
Felix knows it doesn't mean anything when Sylvain flirts with girls. He doesn't actually have an interest in any of them. And yet...
He marches up to Sylvain and the girl and grabs Sylvain's arm. They both look at him in surprise, though there's definitely some irritation in the girl's look.
"No, you can't," Felix almost growls at Sylvain, completely ignoring the girl. "Because you already promised to train with me today, idiot." It's a lie. Sylvain hasn't promised to train with him for the past two weeks. But it's still a believable lie, and Felix wants to get Sylvain away from that girl right now.
"Oh, right!" Sylvain laughs sheepishly, running a hand through his hair, going along with Felix' lie. "I totally forgot, sorry!" The girl is clearly not happy with this.
"Can't you train some other day?" she whines, pouting childishly and putting her hands on her hips. Actually expecting Sylvain to go with her instead of Felix.
"Nah," Sylvain shakes his head. "I promised Felix I'd train with him. Can't go breaking my promises, can I?"
He looks like he might be about to add something, so Felix tightens his grip on his arm and drags him away, leaving barely enough time for Sylvain to call out a bye! to the girl before she's out of earshot.
Felix drags Sylvain with him through the grounds and up to the dormitories. He's tense and irritated, and apparently it's very noticeable, as people practically leap out of his way when they see him coming, Sylvain in tow.
He's almost tempted to take Sylvain to the training grounds instead, getting some more training done and getting to work off some of the irritation and tension that's building in him.
They're halfway through one of the empty gardens when Sylvain tightens his grip on Felix' hand and forces him to stop by digging his heels into the ground and refusing to move.
"Felix," he says quietly, eyes sweeping the nearby area, probably to make sure they really are along. "What's up? You don't usually act like that. I something bothering you?" Felix turns sharply so Sylvain will be able to see his irritated glare.
Typical Sylvain, who can sometimes be so smart, but sometimes also completely oblivious to something he's just said or done.
Maybe Felix should explain the problem calmly and rationally, like an adult. But right now, he's not feeling particularly calm or rational.
"No," he snaps, annoyance clear as day in his tone of voice. "I only just watched the man who claims to love me more than anything else, flirting with some girl. Not only that, but also letting her cling to his arm, petting her hair, and asking her out for lunch. How could that possibly bother me?"
Sylvain winces and looks down at his feet guiltily. Felix just looks at him, not even really sure why he's this upset. It's not like this is the first time he's seeing Sylvain flirting with girls. It's not even the first time since they started dating. Flirting is just a part of Sylvain's existence, as much as his red hair, his carefree attitude, and his loyalty to those he cares about. It's never bothered him before.
Or has it? Maybe it has been bothering him, but he's just tried to ignore it, push away and bottle up the uncomfortable feeling of jealousy he gets whenever he sees Sylvain with a girl clinging to his arm. Maybe this is a conversation they should have had a long time ago, when they first started dating.
"Sorry," Sylvain murmurs, with a light squeeze to Felix' hand. "I guess I didn't really notice what I've been doing." He gives Felix an uncertain smile. "I'll try to tone it down," he promises.
"Hmm..." Felix doesn't answer, thinking through what he actually wants to say. He feels it would be a bit too unreasonable to demand Sylvain stops flirting altogether. He never means anything with it anyway. Never did, even before he and Felix started dating. But maybe he could ask –
"You could at least stop taking them out for lunch, or on dates," he says. "Gives them the wrong impression," he adds, squeezing Sylvain's hand back.
"I think I can do that," Sylvain promises with a small grin, looking relieved. He uses his grip on Felix' hand to pull him closer and presses a quick kiss to his mouth.
"You know," he says when he pulls away, his grin widening. "You're kind of cute when you're all jealous."
"Idiot," Felix grumbles half-heartedly, poking Sylvain in the forehead. "Just don't go trying to make it happen on purpose."
"Don't worry, I won't," Sylvain says, pressing another kiss to Felix' lips and pulls them together by placing his free hand around Felix' waist. "I don't want to actually upset you," he murmurs quietly, carefully moving his head to nuzzle Felix' hair.
"Good," Felix simply says, leaning into Sylvain's touch. "I'd have to kick your ass if you did."
