"I think there is a part of life that I'm missing."
― Kenny Chesney
"Hallo!" a girl around her age with auburn hair and thick rectangular glasses flung open the door even before it was knocked on. "Wie geht es Ihnen?*"
"I'm good," Aki meekly responded. She smiled and held out her hand. "My name is Aki Izayoi, nice to meet you."
The girl grabbed her hand and shook it so hard that Aki was positive her hand would fall off. "Ah, so you're Aki! Gretchen Eichelberger at your service! You can just call me Gret. Ah, this is so exciting!" She practically danced around the room as she talked. "You're going to be my roommate this semester! We're gonna have lots of fun together..."
Aki only sweat-dropped as Gretchen chatted on. As the redhead moved to unload her bags, her hand was grabbed. "You can do that later. Come on! I know some really cool people you should meet!"
…
As she settled down that evening, she turned on her phone and immediately, a new message popped on her screen.

Our dearest Aki, have a safe trip! Call us often whenever you can. No need to worry about the time difference.
Always with you,

She smiled as she clutched her phone to her chest; she was eternally thankful she had mended a broken relationship with her parents. For the longest time, she had nothing… but then she was the Black Rose Witch. She had no family, no friends, no soulmate to lend her a helping hand. Divine alone tried to give her all three, but even then she knew he was unable to fill in all the empty voids. She was by no means completely healed from the pain she had received and dealt from the past, but friends and family had helped a lot in her goal to start anew.
Then, when she first stepped off the plane in a completely new country, she might have been back on base one. But after the events of the day, she thought differently. Her parents already texted her upon arrival, and her roommate could potentially become her best friend here. Plus there were her other friends on the other side of the world, still close to her heart.
We're always together, aren't we?
She went over and picked up the photo of Team 5D's, which was already framed on her desk in her new home. It was taken at the celebration party after WRPG had ended. Her eyes found its own way towards the man in the middle. He seemed happiest in this photo, but then he deserved all the happiness in the world after all he had done.
There was no doubt about it, he was a hero who would go down in the history books. But to her, he was the one who had pieced her life back together. Most of all, he was the man who had stolen her heart some time ago. If only I had the courage to tell him back there…
Sighing deeply, she put the frame back on the desk and fell back onto her bed. As she stared at the ceiling, thoughts began to swim through her mind. The human heart had a natural tendency to divide love into three parts: a family, a best friend, and a soulmate. Sometimes they would mix and blend together due to circumstances, but…
Until she knew he felt the same for her, thirty-three percent of her would always feel missing.
* German for 'how are you (formal)?'
Gretchen is my OC, because Aki needs a friend in Germany. :)
