EXT. DOWNTOWN WOODSBORO – NIGHT
Tatum darts into an alley. She watches in horror as more businesses and buildings are set aflame. The prisoners have vantage points set up on all sides.
Militia men, made up of ordinary citizens, drive by in pickup trucks, exchanging fire with the prisoners. The National Guard marches down the street with red vehicles, spraying tear gas, driving the criminals back. More criminals pop up on rooftops, opening fire with their stolen rifles.
Woodsboro has officially become a war zone. Tatum backs up into the alley – a shadow falls over her.
PRISONER #1: Well lookie here boys – we got a young 'un.
PRISONER #2: Ah, it's been so long since we've had a woman …
The second prisoner reaches out a gnarled hand, pawing at Tatum's shirt.
TATUM: Leave me alone!
She reaches into her purse, ready to grab Dewey's taser. A fourth shadow appears. The three escaped prisoners turn – Big Earl is there. He grabs all three prisoners and knocks their heads together, dropping them like flies.
BIG EARL: Some people just have no respect. (motions with his hand) Go. Get someplace safe.
TATUM: T-thanks …
BIG EARL: S'was nothin' – jus' go hide!
Tatum nods. She turns, back towards a side street –
AN ARM GRABS HER AND PULLS HER INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF A CAR!
Tatum is about to unleash the full force of her pepper spray when she brightens up.
TATUM: Carrie!
Carrie shifts her car into gear and takes off, away from the carnage.
CARRIE: Figured you'd be out and about doing something stupid like turn yourself into the killer.
TATUM: How'd you find me?
CARRIE: I didn't. I just knew you'd be where the action is.
TATUM: I have to turn myself fin –
CARRIE: To lure the killer out? Fine. But you're not doing it without me.
TATUM: Carrie …
CARRIE: I was there in San Martin Inlet! There in that amusement park! I didn't turn my back on you then either.
TATUM: Thanks Carrie.
Tatum's cell phone RINGS!
CARRIE: It's him. Answer it.
She puts the phone on speaker.
GHOSTFACE: So you decided to do the heroic thing and turn yourself in after all?
TATUM: Where are you?
GHOSTFACE: Where it all began! And for extra insurance, some friends want to say hello!
She hears two voices on the killer's end.
JOHN: (O.S.) Tatum! Run away!
RENEE: Forget us! Save yourself!
Tatum feels fury building down to her bones.
TATUM: If you hurt them –
GHOSTFACE: No one ever harms their insurance. Come here, and they'll be left unharmed. Ten minutes. Ten minutes or I swear Tatum, I'll slice them open from groin to sternum!
TATUM: (thinking) Where it all began … (realizing) Cotton Weary's old house!
GHOSTFACE: You're a smart girl. See you soon.
The phone cuts out and Tatum stares at Carrie who nods.
CARRIE: Cotton's old place it is.
EXT. WOODSBORO SUBURBIA – NIGHT
Billy and James stand by a payphone. Much of the carnage is still centered downtown with Billy and James relatively safe – for now. Billy is speaking into the payphone.
BILLY: Greg! Yes, thank God you picked up!
GREG: Billy? What's going on? Mona and I are hunkered down at home.
BILLY: I'll fill you in later. We're on the outskirts of town. We need a ride. Pronto!
GREG: You want me to go out in the middle of a war zone?!
BILLY: We're not Downtown! We're in suburbia!
GREG: Who's we?
BILLY: (mumbling) James … might be with me …
GREG: James? JAMES?! Jab-you-with-a-knife-James?!
BILLY: I'll explain later! Just get here!
He hears a female mumbling in the background.
BILLY: (exasperated) Yes, Mona can be in the damn wedding party! But it won't matter if you don't get your ass here now!
He slams the phone down. James is casually looking at his fingernails.
JAMES: I get the impression Greg may have some animosity towards me …
Billy facepalms.
CUT TO:
EXT. COTTON'S HOUSE – NIGHT
Carrie's car pulls up along the gravel. Tatum stares at the old farmhouse, the memories of the first massacre still fresh. She turns to Carrie.
TATUM: Okay – now you get out of here!
CARRIE: Like I said – with you to the end.
Tatum nods. The two of them get out of the car and approach the old, broken down mansion. Tatum's phone rings.
TAUM: (answering) Yes?
GHOSTFACE: You follow instructions well. The basement. (Beat) You do remember the basement, don't you?
TATUM: Like yesterday. Get there. Now.
INT. BASEMENT – NIGHT
Tatum and Carrie enter the basement. A ceiling light BLARES on!
JOHN AND RENEE ARE ON THEIR KNEES, BOUND AND GAGGED, THEIR ARMS TIED TO THE PIPING ABOVE!
TATUM: Mom! Dad!
She rushes for them – her phone rings again. She answers.
TATUM: Let them go!
GHOSTFACE: Uh-uh. Not yet. You know how this works, Tatum. We're going to play a little game for keeps. THE FINAL ROUND!
TATUM: Bring it you fucker!
GHOSTFACE: So confident this time! Is it because you know your remaining lifeline is dwindling away as we speak? Whether by my blade or by your sickness – your time is nearing its end!
CARRIE: What's he talking about?
TATUM: (to Carrie, hand covering the phone) Go upstairs. Get help. I'll keep him occupied.
Carrie nods, racing back upstairs, leaving Tatum alone as she puts the phone back to her ear.
GHOSTFACE: Now that she's out of the way, we can play our little game of Family Feud!
CUT TO:
INT. COTTON'S HOUSE – NIGHT
Carrie runs upstairs. She darts through the old living room, into the kitchen – AND FINDS A GUN POINTED AT HER HEAD!
HICKS steps out of the shadows in his PANTHYR uniform, handgun raised. His arms and uniform are covered in blood.
HICKS: What are you doing here?
CARRIE: I could ask you the same question.
HICKS: Cyrus sent out an alert. Tatum and Billy are our top priority. I saw Tatum get in your car back in town so I tailed you.
CARRIE: Convenient.
They're circling each other.
HICKS: I'm not here for you, Carrie.
CARRIE: Oh, so you just wanted Tatum for yourself, huh? Is that her parents blood on your pants?
HICKS: What are you talking about?
CARRIE: Come on, Hicks – I'm not stupid. You go to work for these PANTHYR guys in the prison and the same day, the supposedly inescapable prison just happens to have a mass breakout?
HICKS: I think you're misreading the –
CARRIE: Not to mention your younger sister was one of Sidney Prescott's accomplices.
HICKS: I'm only here to help stop the killer, that's all!
Carrie backs up to a kitchen counter. Her fingers graze a pan.
HICKS: (cont'd) Whatever you may think – I'm not a killer! I'm nothing like my sister!
CARRIE: Oh yeah, and how can I be sure of that?
Hicks lowers his gun.
CARRIE: (cont'd) If you really wanted to prove it to me, give me the gun.
HICKS: (eyebrow raised) I don't think so. You're gonna have to take my word for things. Now – where is Tatum?
CUT TO:
INT. BASEMENT
Tatum is on the phone, eyes streaming. Her parents are struggling, frightened, crying.
GHOSTFACE: Question #1 – for John! Who were the first victims of Sidney, Cotton and Judy's massacre?
TATUM: Megan and Jake.
GHOSTFACE: Very good, Tatum. They both may make it out of this alive yet! Question #2 – for Mommy Dearest!
Renee's eyes are widened with terror.
GHOSTFACE: You should remember this one a bit more clearly. Who was the sea captain killed by Desirae?
TATUM: I don't remember!
GHOSTFACE: Tick-tock, tick-tock.
TATUM: (trying to think) Sea captain, sea captain …
ANGLE ON: Renee crying, tears streaming.
ANGLE ON: Tatum, running a hand through her hair.
TATUM: Louie. Captain Louie.
GHOSTFACE: Yes! Correct! Now for the real questions!
TATUM: No! You said two questions and I got them both right!
GHOSTFACE: But those were only the warm-up questions. Besides, you're doing so well. We can't stop now. I have full confidence in you.
TATUM: Fine – bring it!
GHOSTFACE: Oooh cocky. I like it! The speed-round then! Name the girl killed in a swimming pool!
TATUM: Jenna!
GHOSTFACE: Who was eaten by a shark?
TATUM: Dylan!
GHOSTFACE: The couple killed in the House of Mirrors?
TATUM: Shane and Ashley!
GHOSTFACE: Name the victim who –
TATUM: (interrupting) Casey Becker! Mr. Lovedge! Judy Hicks! Captain Louie! Ashley Becker! Shane McKonnell! Veronica Tate and Brian Orth! Jake and Megan! Maureen Prescott! Neil Prescott! Randy Meeks! Stu Macher! It's one of those right?! Right?!
The line on her phone has gone dead. Tatum looks around. Nothing. She rushes forward towards the tool table, grabbing a power tool. Crying hysterically, she CUTS her mother and father free. John and Renee stand up, removing their gags. Tatum grabs them both and hugs them.
TATUM: I got it right! I was fucking right! We have to find Carrie!
CUT TO:
INT. COTTON'S HOUSE – KITCHEN
Carrie and Hicks are still staring each other down, still not trusting each other.
HICKS: If I'm a suspect because my sister was involved in a prior massacre, then you're suspect since you were too!
CARRIE: How does that even begin to make sense?!
HICKS: I'm not giving you my gun, Carrie!
TATUM: (O.S.) You won't need to!
Tatum appears in the kitchen, her parents in tow, worse for the wear, but very much alive.
CARRIE: (relieved) Tatum! (Hugs her) He – he just let you go?
TATUM: I got his questions right.
Carrie backs away.
CARRIE: Something's not right …
BLAM!
A GUNSHOT goes off, BLASTING A HOLE RIGHT IN HICK'S HEAD! Hicks sways and collapses to the floor, blood pooling around his corpse.
ANGLE ON:
JOHN IS STANDING THERE WITH A SMOKING GUN!
CARRIE: Oh crap!
BLAM!
A GUNSHOT HITS CARRIE IN THE STOMACH! She doubles over, her shirt blossoming red. She stares up at Tatum is screaming and crying hysterically. Blood pours from her mouth.
CARRIE: Tatum … I … I'm sorry …
Carrie collapses next to Hicks, bleeding out.
Tatum turns – John now has Renee at knifepoint, the blade pressed up against her neck. Renee is absolutely terrified and confused.
JOHN: This isn't exactly how I wanted you to find out Tatum, but here it is …
RENEE: (confused) John …
JOHN: Sorry, Renee. It's nothing personal. (thinks about it) No – scratch that! It actually is personal!
TATUM: Dad … all those people? Dead! How? … why?
JOHN: (shaking his head) Oh no – I haven't been running around in a Ghostface costume killing people. I'm not in good enough shape for that. I'm just a delivery man. One task – to deliver you to him. Unspoiled.
TATUM: And who is "him"?
JOHN: Uh-uh. Not yet. I wouldn't want to take it away from him. We've been waiting a long time for this.
TATUM: Just tell me why!
RENEE: John … please … just kill me … don't tell her …
JOHN: Oh? You want me to keep lying to her? As I lied throughout her entire childhood and our marriage? As you'vebeen lying?
TATUM: Mom … Mom, what's he talking about?
JOHN: Should I tell her, Renee? Should I tell her about your cheating, whoring ways?
RENEE: Please – Tatum, I never meant –
JOHN: You never meant it?! 'Not meaning it' would have meant you didn't sleep around with another man! Not meaning it would have meant you wouldn't have carried his child!
The soundtrack thuds.
TATUM: What? Dad?
JOHN: Sweetie … I'm not your Dad. But I'll let our guest waiting in the wings have the honors of revealing it all.
He jerks Renee around and points at Carrie's body.
JOHN: Get her car keys.
CUT TO:
EXT. COTTON'S HOUSE
Tatum is hysterical. John shoves Renee into the backseat of Carrie's car, holding a knife to her neck with one hand and a gum aimed at Tatum's head with another.
JOHN: Drive. I'll give you the directions.
Tatum enters the driver's seat, starts the ignition and puts the car in gear. The soundtrack thuds as the car takes off.
