They had been seated in the secluded corner of the dimly lit restaurant for an hour when things began to take a turn for the worse.
"So what's your family like?" Asked Wally over the rim of his glass, gauging her reaction carefully.
"Honestly?" She paused for a minute to take a long sip of her beer, "really god damn awful." Wally sputtered not expecting her bluntness.
"I'm sorry," he said after a few breaths, "care to elaborate?"
"Yeah, I'm not sure that's first date material. We're supposed to keep this light." The air grew silent between them as the two took big gulps from their drinks. Wally felt his communicator vibrate in his pocket, and swore mentally.
"My phone's vibrating do you mind if I take it?" He asked sheepishly; she nodded looking only slightly put off at his inquiry. He gave her a small smile and stood quickly pulling his communicator from his pocket as he sped through the restaurant and out the front door.
"Flash here."
"Wally it's me." He groaned inwardly.
"Are you fucking serious man? You know I'm on a date." He asked angrily of his best friend.
"I could seriously use your help if that's what you mean." Wally heard shots fired and yelling in background. "As quick as you like man."
"You owe me big man, be there in a flash." He cut off the laughing on the other end with a snap of the communicator, and headed back inside. He paused a moment to watch Artemis at their table. She was looking out the window onto the dimming street with a small smile on her mouth as she ran her fingers through her long hair. Oh how he really wanted to be the one with his fingers tangled in her gorgeous blonde mane.
"Hey Artemis?" She looked up at him and her smile widened. You owe me so big Dick. "I'm really sorry, but that was Dick, something's happened, I'm not really sure what he was kind of babbling, but, god I'm really sorry-"
"Wally, it's okay I get it, you can go." He smiled down at her at leaned down to press a quick kiss to her cheek, and throw some money on the table.
"You're the best, I'm going to make it up to you I swear," he yelled as he shuffled back out of the restaurant. Wally turned down an abandoned alley and quickly changed into his Flash getup, and pressed the comm link in his ear.
"Alright Dick, where are you?" He asked as he began running in the general direction of Bludhaven, Dick's current home.
"The docks, and… really?! The Batman personally trained me do you honestly think you can take me down that easily." The line went silent for a moment as Dick concentrated on taking down another one of the many armed thugs. "Wally, if you could get here sooner rather than later that would be amazing."
"Dude where's the family?" He asked as he pushed himself faster, the city lights of Bludhaven cresting over the hill before him. He heard a grunt in his comm and the thud of flesh on flesh. "Yeah I'm coming Dick, five seconds."
Wally could hear the fight now as he ran through the maze of shipping crates until finally he could see them. There were fifteen guys tops, ripped like all hell, and in the middle was Nightwing his bo staffs in each hand swinging forcefully at the thugs.
"It's about time," He called out as Wally swung into action grabbing the first guy he could get his hands on and throwing him into another.
"Seriously man? You understand I can run at the speed of light right?" Dcik laughed as he smacked two of the thugs heads together.
"Yeah yeah, that's real impressive Flash."
"Do you want me to leave, cause I really enjoying myself on-" He was cut off when a guy got a quick shot in, a knife right to the side. "Oh you fucker," he whispered as he gripped his side. Another saw his chance and punched him square in the jaw, he staggered on his feet for a moment, stars swimming in front of his eyes. And then it all went black as he felt a prick in his neck a burning sensation spread through his entire body.
