Thank you for the review. Shout out to bladekerr for leaving a review. Sorry for not updating sooner, but I've been busy. But I am updating now. Yes, Flo is rather oblivious to the change, as she now has the daughter she always wanted, and doesn't want to lose her. As for Spinelli spending more time with the Ashleys' than the gang, we'll see. Just keep reading to find out.
Now, onto the next Gretchen chapter.
Chapter 11: Gretchen – no homework?
Today was Monday, which for Gretchen usually meant, getting up early to get a head start, work on a new invention or project, or polish her homework, and to have breakfast with her parents, but not today. Today, she slept in, to the point where her mom had to wake her up, to get ready for school in time.
"Gretchen, wake up. You're going to be late for school." And after some time, Gretchen finally woke up.
"Huh, what time is it."
"It's almost 7, and you're still not up. You have to get up if you want to get to school in time. Your father and I have to get to work, and you always get up on time."
"Okay, thanks. I'll get dressed and get some breakfast."
"There's no time. Just take a bagel with you on your way to school and hurry up."
As her mom went downstairs, Gretchen got dressed. Instead of her usual wardrobe, she decided on a pair of jeans and casual shirt, as well as a pair of sneakers, along with a cap, and put her hair in a low ponytail instead of the usual braid or bun. She went to go wash her face, and then went downstairs to grab a bagel on the way to school. She took her new skateboard with her, and said goodbye to her parents, hoping that she could get to school in time. Her glasses were getting annoying to wear. But luckily, she would get the laser eye surgery on Friday, and then Monday, she would be back at school with no glasses. She hoped to be able to meet up with her friends before school starts, like they always did.
With a bit of luck, and use of her new skateboard, she managed to meet up with them on time. They all looked different, aside from T.J. (A/N: I have already described Spinelli's new look in her chapter and will get to the others in their respective chapters). T.J looked the same, while the others looked differently, but then again, so did she. They all talked about their respective weekend when the bell rang. She had her first class with T.J, which was history. One of the few classes she had, that was not an advanced class.
As they sat down, T.J spoke to her. "Hey, Gretch. What's with the outfit."
"What outfit?"
"The one, you're wearing right now."
"What about it?"
"It's not what you usually wear."
"So. I just decided to try and wear something else. What's it to you anyway."
"Nothing. I was just wondering."
"Just because you prefer to wear the same thing you wore throughout middle school, doesn't mean that the rest of us do."
"Okay, okay. You don't have to bite my head off."
"Well then, mind your own business."
Honestly, this was the second time that he questioned her about her wardrobe. Why couldn't he just leave well enough alone. Why did he always have to meddle in everything.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the teacher arriving.
"Okay, everyone. I hope you all did your homework this weekend because we will be discussing it today." As he said it, the principal had an announcement from the speaker.
"Due to an unfortunate accident last Friday, the science fair has been postponed by two months. That is all." It seemed like her experiment had been the cause of the accident, and she would normally try to help clean up the mess, but just couldn't be bothered to do so lately, for some reason. She had also spent the weekend deciding to quit the science club. It just didn't interest her anymore, and she might as well drop out of the science fair as well. She did initially have a project to work on, but it clearly exploded, and didn't have any affect, so there was no point.
"Well, okay. You heard the principal. It seems as if there was an accident here Friday, and the principal has decided that it would be best to postpone the science fair. I'm sorry to those of you who have already gotten started on your projects, but you will all have plenty of time to continue. Now, hand over your homework, and I will take a look at them." While the rest of the class handed over the teacher, Gretchen had none when it came to her.
"Gretchen. Did you not do your homework this season?"
"No, I did not."
"Care to explain why not."
"I just, forgot."
"Well, since you are usually a good student, and you always do your homework, I will let this one slide, but please do remember your homework another time."
"I will." And the teacher got the rest of the homework, before getting the class started.
T.J then asked her, quietly. "Okay, seriously. What is going on with you? You always do your homework. This isn't your normal behavior, Gretch."
"I just forgot. Okay. It can happen to us all."
"Yeah, but it never happens to you. You're always prepared, and you always have your homework done, and even extra credit. And not to mention, I saw you take that comic book Saturday. That's stealing, and you don't steal. You're a good person, Gretch."
"Gee, don't you think you're overreacting. It was just one comic book. It's not like I took something expensive. They won't miss it, and I was going to pay for it, but then, I just forgot."
"So, you're not even denying it. And even if it's just a comic book, it's still stealing. Is everything okay."
"Of course, everything is okay. Just drop it, T.J, and let it go."
"And if the two of you can stop talking in my class, then that would be great." The teacher interrupted their conversation, before continuing. "I will let you off with a warning, Gretchen, but T.J, this is not your first time disrupting my class, so I have to give you detention, after school. Now pay attention in class."
And so, their conversation stopped, much to Gretchen's relief. Even if T.J was right, that she normally a good student, who always did her homework, it didn't mean that she wouldn't occasionally forget, or just choose to not do her homework. She had spent so much time, being a good student, and following the rules, that she wanted to know what it was like to not follow the rules for once. And he was overreacting to her taking that one comic book. It wasn't like she had taken a computer. It was just one comic book that the store probably wouldn't even miss.
Eventually, the rest of the day had passed, and Gretchen would normally be in science club by now, which she was on her way to, but just to tell them that she was quitting the club.
She arrived at the club, and every other member of the club was there. The science teacher was the first to speak up. "Ah, Gretchen. You're just in time. We were just discussing the fact that the science fair has been postponed."
"Actually, I just came here to say that I am officially quitting science club."
"Gretchen, what is this all about. You are a bright student. You sure you want to quit."
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Well, I can't stop you, but you are always welcome to rejoin at any point."
"Don't count on it." And with that, she left. She was thinking of going to Kelso's to get something to eat.
Next chapter: Vince – first week.
So that was it for chapter 11. I hope you all enjoyed it.
Okay, so I have decided on a deadline for T.J before the changes become permanent, which will be the science fair. He'll have to find a way to reverse the changes before it's too late.
Anyway, as always, please R/R and let me know what you think.
As always, I do not own recess or its characters. Only my OC's
