Kissing Abe was everything Mouse always thought it would be, loving, sweet, and passionate- though sometimes the two had a hard time staying locked in an embrace for too long when they realized that the two of them were reading each others minds by accident and just hearing their own thoughts echoing in their heads. Mouse always laughed when that happened, a laugh that made Abe fall deeper in love with her while she covered half her face with her hand shut her eyes as she laughed. Her curly hair bounced as she laughed and Abe couldn't help but love her even more.

"We really have to work on not reading each others minds," Mouse laughed as she looked at Abe one afternoon after that had happened yet again.

"I'm afraid I was mildly distracted," Abe smiled at her, bringing a hang up, brushing the backs of his smooth webbed fingers against her cheek. She leaned towards his hand with a smile before leaning in to kiss him again. His lips brushed against hers, soft at first, and then just as he leaned in, deepening the kiss there was a knock on the door. "Who is it?" Abe asked her softly making her sigh and then lift her hand up, holding it towards the door. Even when they were together he would constantly get her to work on her abilities.

"What is it Myers?" she asked.

"Can I come in?" he asked through the door making her chuckle lightly and then fix her hair, Abe stood up and walked to the door, when he opened it, Myers looked startled to see Abe and looked down quickly. 'Oh god of course I interrupted them, doesn't look like anything got too far but-'

"Did you want something?" Mouse asked quickly, wanting to turn his thoughts away from where they had been going.

"Yeah, sorry, um, I have some news for you," he said quickly. "It's your dad,"

"What about him?" she asked, her interest peaked, she hadn't spoken to her adoptive family since she joined the BPRD and they had made no attempt to contact her.

"Well uh-" Myers was being slow, so she tuned into his thoughts 'Oh god, how do I tell her? She hasn't spoken to them in ages she must miss him so much, and she never got to see him again before he died-'

"Oh," she breathed as Abe walked over to her, he had obviously done the same thing, read Myer's thoughts and found out what she now knew. "He's dead, okay, um, when did it happen?"

"Two days ago," he sighed. "I'm so sorry Mouse,"

"It's like you said, I haven't spoken to him in years."

"I uh- I never said that." he commented, making her roll her eyes.

"Okay, thought it." she said dismissively as she waved a hand and dragged the other through her thick curly hair. "So- So is there like a funeral or something?" she looked up at him and he nodded.

"Yeah, tomorrow afternoon. Your sister called, she's the one who wants you to go."

"Right, of course," she nodded slowly and then looked up at him. "Right, okay, thanks Myers." she said as she looked down at her knees. He nodded and gave Abe a small nod before leaving the room, closing the door softly behind him.

"Marion, I am so sorry," Abe said as he laid a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I hardly knew the man," she said as she looked at him. "I just know a man who yelled at me for using my abilities and told me that if I ever changed my mind about being a part of the BPRD I could never go home."

"He was the man who raised you to that point," Abe reminded her gently. "He was a fearful, and flawed man, but he was your father."

"I know," she nodded. "I know, and that's why I'll go to the funeral," she looked at him and gave him a small smile. "Will you come with me?"

"Marion-" he tensed slightly. "I want to be there for you- you know I do, but I can't go out there, you know I can't."

"I know," she put her hand over his and nodded. "I know, I just wasn't thinking."

"If I could-"

"I know." she assured him. "I know."

John Myers ended up escorting her to the funeral, and Mouse had to admit she was surprised how well the young agent cleaned up with a hot shave and a nice suit. Mouse was wearing a black dress that went to to her knees and had a bow at her waist, along with a pair of black flats, she had actually managed to control her usually uncontrollable hair and was sitting in the back of the cab they had taken to the church. She sighed as she stared out the window at it, members of her once family, and her old neighbors and her parents friends were outside the church, saying their greetings while John paid for the cab. "You ready?" he asked and she looked at him for a long moment before sighing and nodding.

"As ready as I'll be I suppose." she said before getting the small purse she'd borrowed from Liz and slowly got out of the car. John followed and gently put his hand on her elbow as the two walked up to the church, her mom and her sister standing there, receiving everyone's words of praise of her late father. Their neighbor, Mrs. Dormett was just finishing up when her mom turned to her, and froze, her face hardening as she looked her youngest daughter over.

"Mary," she said stiffly and Marion nodded.

"l'm sorry," she said softly. "He was so... Full of life." Chrissy let out a little snort making their mom look at her quickly and Mouse smiled. "He was so young." Chrissy bit her lip and looked down, trying not to laugh at Mouse who was saying the most typical things one could say at a funeral, as their mom looked between the two girls, a look of irritation crossing her face.

"Mary, I don't know what's gotten into you, and Chrissy, I don't appreciate you encouraging her." she huffed before looking back at Mouse. "I expect you both to be on your best behavior." she snapped, pausing only long enough to get a 'Yes ma'am.' from each girl before she turned on her heel and stormed into the church.

"She's not actually sad," Chrissy said as she looked at Mouse. "She didn't really like him that much, especially towards the end. They were talking about getting divorced." she explained. "And then this happened."

"Heart attack?" Mouse asked as she searched Chrissy's mind. "His dad had a history of heart disease too, didn't he?" Chrissy nodded and Mouse sighed softly before looking after their mom.

"You know, they wondered about you. After you left."

"I know," Mouse muttered softly.

"And I missed you..." That surprised Mouse, when the two were growing up she and Chrissy had constantly been at odds, each believing the other got special treatment, Mouse believing it because Chrissy was older, Chrissy believing it because Mouse was different, at least that's how it read in Chrissy's mind.

"I missed you too." Mouse said after a moment. Chrissy stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Mouse's neck, and the two sisters shared a long embrace before she finally pulled back and took notice of John.

"Oh, you must be Mary's boyfriend-"

"No, I'm just her... Friend." John said as he extended his hand. "John Myers."

"Christine, nice to meet you." she shook his hand before looking at Mouse. "Come on, the family is sitting in the front."

"Mom won't want me up there," Mouse shook her head and Chrissy took her hand.

"Dad would." she insisted before gently leading her inside and towards the front of the church.

After the funeral there was a reception at Mouse's childhood home. People were gathered, eating trays of deli meat and scones and drinking lemonade made just for the occasion, while Mouse watched her mom receiving people and bouquet after bouquet of flowers. At one point Chrissy actually announced that they had run out of vases, and their mom, at her breaking point said she would go get one she had in the garage. It was then Mouse took the opportunity to slip away from John who was getting himself a slice of key lime pie and was telling Mouse a story about him as a child with key lime pie that would go on a few more minutes, giving her time to get away while he was distracted. She walked out to the garage and saw her mom leaning against a wall, a hand over her face and tears rolling down her face.

"You don't need to feel guilty," Mouse said as she walked into the garage, the door closing behind her. Her mom jumped and looked over at Mouse before sighing.

"What would you know about it?"

"Well, number one, I'm not twelve anymore," she said with a small shrug. "And number two, I can read your mind." she held her hands out as if to say 'what can you do'. "I know you're not a fan of it, but you know... It doesn't take a mind reader to see you're upset."

"Of course I'm upset, I'm in mourning."

"Yeah, but you also don't feel like you're mourning right," Mouse said as she walked in a little further. "You know there's no right way of doing it. Just because you and Dad were going to get divorced before this happened doesn't mean you can't still feel upset, and feel everything else you're feeling. Just don't feel guilty. It wasn't your fault, and you need to stop blaming yourself." Her mom sighed deeply as she looked at Mouse before she wrapped her arms around her and hugged her tightly. "I'm sorry he's gone Mom," Mouse said softly as she hugged her mother back.

"I'm sorry I was a terrible mother," she replied making Mouse pull back.

"No, mom, you weren't-"

"I always yelled at you for doing something you couldn't control, if I had encouraged you maybe you could have learned control without having to leave..."

"Mom, it was the best thing for me," Mouse assured her. "I got to be trained by people who know about my abilities because they gave the same, or similar abilities. I'm grateful you did let me go." the older woman sighed deeply before nodding and then looking towards the door to the house.

"Okay Marion, where is the vase your Grandma Joyce gave me and your father as a wedding gift? I now it's here but I can't remember where."

"Testing me?" Mouse asked with a smile.

"Just seeing what they taught you wherever you went." Mouse nodded and then sighed, concentrating as she looked through her mom's mind and then finally opened her eyes. There were several closets in the garage and Mouse walked over to one and opened the door before pulling out a newspaper wrapped vase. "That's right! I hid it because your uncle Ronny came over and I didn't want him to steal it to subsidize his drug habit."

"Good old Uncle Ronny." Mouse sighed as she looked at the cabinet full of boxes and different wrapped things. One box in particular stood out to Mouse, an old shoe box with 'Marion's Adoption' written on the side. "Mom, what's this?" she asked as she pulled it closer.

"That's all your adoption papers, your birth certificate, things like that," she said as she unwrapped the vase.

"Can I have it?" Mouse asked as she opened the lid to the box, after removing a daddy long legs from the box she picked up a folder and opened it, inside was her birth certificate.

"Sure, I don't see why not, you're an adult." Mouse's mom replied as she walked towards the door to the house. "You coming?"

"Yeah, I'll be right there," Mouse said and her mom went inside as Mouse continued to stare at her birth certificate. Her eyes locked onto two names. 'Regina Hartwell and Richard Daniels'. "My parents..." she muttered to herself softly.

I hope you enjoyed the update, as I said, I'll be updating all of my old stories and getting some closure on them all soon!
