I keep my mind clear as Amethyst walks in a circle around me. The garden room at the Tower where she resides is still as beautiful as the day I stepped into it with Kent. It's where we mostly conduct our lessons and I practice the many spells that she's decided are imperative for me to know as Amethyst when the time comes.
It's been two years since I found out Bruce was Batman and Dick was Robin. Every day has been dedicated to some sort of education for my future. Either I'm at the Tower with Kent or Amethyst, or I'm at the Manor training with Bruce or Dick. My magic has grown significantly over the past two years but even so, I know I still have a lot of growing to do before I can take on the title of Amethyst.
As I mediate with Amethyst circling me, I reach out into the Tower searching for Kent. He's been gone for some time now but it's not unusual. He's always going out on some adventure. As of late, he's been taking me with him more to look into the magic community. This time he left me behind without even informing me he was leaving. Amethyst had been the one to tell me that he had gone out to stretch his legs.
While searching for Kent, my magic latches onto five people entering the foyer of the Tower. My eyes pop open and spot Amethyst circling me with her eyes closed. Sensing my discomfort, her eyes open and train themselves on me.
"What's wrong, Kimberly?" she inquires.
I stand to my feet as I explain. "Five unfamiliar people have just entered the Tower. I'm going to investigate."
Amethyst nods her head before moving to sit on her favorite bench. "Go and take care of what you need to. We are finished today anyway."
I give Amethyst a smile before grabbing my backpack and swinging it onto my back. "I'll see you soon," I tell her before walking up the path a little way before summoning a door from the Tower.
I pushed through the door and find the five intruders standing in the foyer looking around. I raise an eyebrow at the mismatched group.
"Can I help you?" I ask them while shutting the door behind me.
They don't look like normal asylum seekers and I've never seen someone with green skin either. My eyes sweep over the group, taking in all their appearances. A girl with green skin, freckles, and red hair. Another girl with long blonde hair and a bored look on her face. A tall boy with black hair and a scowl on his face. Another boy has red hair, green eyes, and freckles dotting his face. His attention seems to be solely on the girl with green skin. The final person in the ensemble is a tall boy with blonde hair and a track suit with sandals.
The red head steps forward and beams brightly at me. "We are true believers, and we are here to find Doctor Fate!" he exclaims.
I watch as the boy grins back at the green skinned girl, who smiles brightly back at him. However, before I can ask exactly what they are talking about the floor beneath them starts crumbling beneath them and the Tower sends them falling. Running forward to the edge of the pit, I see that the Tower has sent them falling into a lava pit and the heat from it pushes upward, skyrocketing the temperature in the foyer.
Before thinking through it clearly, I leap into the pit and with an outstretched hand shout "Etativel!" My own body stops falling through the heated air, but the others keep falling at a fast past.
The green skinned girl grabs hold of the ginger and is floating down slowly, the heat seemingly affecting her ability to fly. As she struggles with the ginger, the blonde haired girl withdraws a crossbow and fires a grabbling hook from it. It embeds itself into the wall and she swings forward, catching the blonde hair boy along the way. The surly boy with black hair catches himself and digs both his hands and feet into the cavern wall to stop his descent, and barely manages to stop himself. However, his feet still enter the lava, only for him to shout about his shoes. He climbs the cavern wall some to show his shoes gone, but his feet uninjured.
"Looc eht aval!" I shout, casting a spell on the Tower.
Immediately the bubbling lava turns hard, cooling itself and allowing the five intruders to safely land on the rocky floor. They stand together on one side of the cavern as I stand alone on the other. I raise an eyebrow at the group.
"How about someone be honest about why you all are here? And don't bother trying to lie again," I warn them. "The Tower will know, and it will not hesitate to drop you back into another lava pit."
The blonde guy steps forward slightly, "We apologize for the intrusion. We were not aware of your presence in the Tower," he apologizes to me. "We were sent by Red Tornado to check on Kent Nelson and see to it the Helmet of Fate is safe."
I frown. Red Tornado is one of the few Leaguers I hadn't meet through Kent or Batman. He wasn't aware of my existence.
"Unfortunately, Red Tornado is unaware of my existence here in the Tower. But I can assure you all that Kent is merely on one of his adventures. He's always wandering off," I inform them. "As for the Helmet, the Tower keeps it safe. Without Kent here, the Tower won't even reveal the helmet."
"So…who exactly are you?" the blonde girl asks with a raise eyebrow and her arms crossed over her chest.
"I'm Kimberly Miller, but you can call me Kim," I introduce myself to them. "And you five are….?" I question.
The blonde-haired boy who stepped forward to answer my question introduces himself first. "I am Kaldur'ahm, but you may call me Kaldur."
My eyes raise at his name. "Wait…Aqualad?" I ask him before turning to the red head. "Kid Flash?"
The red head and Kaldur look at each other questioningly before turning back to me.
"You know our identities," Kaldur questions.
I smile at the two of them. "Yeah, I've been trained by Batman for the past several years. I keep up to date on League files. Including the one where you two went to Cadmus with Robin and saved Superboy over there," I inform them while looking to the surly black-haired boy. I glance at the girl with green skin and red hair, "That must make you Miss Martian. Martian Manhunter's niece."
The girl grins at me. "You can call me Megan," she tells me.
My eyes turn to the last person in the group who's eyes are narrowed at me. I know who she is and her relations, but I also know how she came to join the team. She's helped them when fighting that Amazo robot a couple weeks previously. Bruce had assured me that Artemis was nothing like her father and her mother had started a better life, hoping that Artemis would keep to that life instead of following the dark path her father and sister took.
"Artemis, right?" I ask her.
The girl nods her head, keeping her arms crossed but not saying anything.
"So now that we've all been introduced, how exactly are we going to get out of here?" Superboy asks in a huff, gesturing towards the now closed cavern ceiling.
Kaldur looks to me, "Kim, you cooled the lava with magic, didn't you?"
My gaze tears away from Artemis and find Kaldur bent down touching the ground. "I did. A simple cooling spell counteracted the Tower. Thankfully, it is familiar to the touch of my magic and allowed the lava to cool. Otherwise, the lava would have stayed until someone had spoken the true reason of you five being here."
"Could you perhaps, get us out of here?" he asks me.
I shrug my shoulders. "I can try. Give me a second to sync my magic with the Tower's."
Before I can even try to close my eyes to connect with it, Kid Flash—or Wally as Robin had referred to him multiple times over the years—reaches out and pats Megan on the back. "Don't worry Megalicious, I got you!"
Artemis storms forward and shoves him back against the cavern wall. "Enough!" She shouts in his face before gesturing wildly at him. "Your little 'Impress Megan at all costs' game nearly got us all barbecued."
"When did this become my fault?" he argues back.
Artemis glares angrily at the boy. "When you lied to that whatever it was and called yourself a 'True Believer'."
Megan glances at the redhead. "Wally, you don't believe?" she asks him.
He glances between the two girls before breaking and gesturing his hands out. "Fine! Fine!" he shouts. "I lied about believing in magic. But magic is the real lie, a major load."
"Wally," Kaldur calls to his friend. "I studied for a year at the Conservatory of Sorcery in Atlantis. The mystic arts created the skin icons that power my water bearers."
"Dude," Wally drawls out. "Have you even heard of bioelectricity? Hey, in primitive cultures, fire was once considered magical, too. Today it's all just a bunch of tricks."
I keep my mouth closed as the group argues. Artemis throws her hands to her hips and glares at the boy.
"You're pretty close minded for a guy who can break the sound barrier in his sneakers," she informs him.
"That's science," Wally shoots back at her. "I recreated Flash's laboratory experiment, and here I am. Everything can be explained by science."
"Let us test that theory," Kaldur tells him before turning to me. "Kim, would you be so kind?"
I glance between the group and realize that I was supposed to be creating a way out of here. "Oh, yeah. Sorry. Just a moment," I inform them before closing my eyes and reaching out to the Tower with my magic.
After a few seconds, I feel the familiar tug of the Tower's magic reacting to my own. When I open my eyes I out stretch my hand and chant, "Teg su tuo fo ereh!"
A trapdoor appears near Kaldur and he grabs the handle and as he pulls the door open Wally starts shouting at him.
"Wait! The backdraft from the lava will roast us alive!"
But when Kaldur pulls the door up snow flakes drift upwards as does the cold draft from the artic air. I frown at the room that the Tower opened up.
"Sorry, you guys. I tried for the foyer, or the sitting room. Tower had different ideas," I explain to them.
Megan smiles brightly and reaches out to touch the snowflakes. "It's snow!"
Artemis turns to Wally and smirks. "Do you ever get tired of being wrong?"
I watch as everyone drops through the door and gains their footing on the new direction of gravity. Eventually it's only Wally and I left in the cavern. His frustration is evident on his face. I'd heard Dick talk about how Wally was very set in his science reasonings, but I didn't realize that he didn't have even an inch of belief of the mystic arts.
I gesture towards the trapdoor. "We should move quickly, the Tower will close the door shortly," I explain to him.
The redhead glares at me before leaping into the cold artic. I merely shrug my shoulders before following. I've barely regained my composure in the new direction of gravity when the door glows yellow and closes itself.
I turn around to face the group and find Artemis smirking at Wally.
"Well?" she asks.
He merely rolls his eyes. "Ever heard of string theory, we're in a pocket dimension," he explains.
"Ahh!" Artemis groans out.
I step forward beside Wally. "He's not wrong. The entire Tower is comprised of pocket dimensions," I explain.
He turns and grins at Artemis, "See! Science!"
I turn back to Wally. "But we got to the pocket dimension with magic. It's the only way to break through the walls of dimensions without causing a rip that would leave lasting damage," I explain.
Artemis grins back at Wally. "See! Magic!" she taunts back at him using the same tone he had with her.
"What's that?" Megan calls out to me from the far edge of the group.
I turn to see her pointing at Kent's cane floating in midair. I move forward towards it with a frown on my face. Scenarios of why it's here and not with Kent fly through my mind. The only thing I know is that if Kent doesn't have it with him then he's in trouble.
"Ooh," Wally calls out sarcastically. "Maybe it's Nelson's magic wand."
I turn to give him a small smile. "Pretty much," I tell him before looking back at it.
Artemis has moved forward with me to examine the cane. We reach out at the same time to grab it, only for Wally to speed over and grab it as well.
"I got it!" the two say in unison. "Ahh, I can't let go!"
The cane starts glowing and I turn back to the other three watching everything unfold. "Keep walking, the Tower will provide you an exit."
I barely get the words out when the cane lifts the three of us into the air and has us disappear in a bright flash. When the light disappears, I find we've been dumped on the stairs of the tower. The cane still has the three of us attached to it and we struggle to get to our feet. Below us, I spot Kent on the ground with two familiar figures.
"Oh, no," I mumble, catching the attention of the other two.
"Abra Kadabra!" Wally calls out, getting Kent's attention.
The other figure with Kent pets his cat familiar as he smirks at the older man, enjoying whatever pain they were inflecting upon him.
Suddenly Kent starts glowing yellow, as does the cane.
"Get ready," I tell the other two as Kent starts floating through the air towards us, pushing his captors out of his way.
When Kent reaches us, he extends his hands for the cane. The moment his hands touch the cane, our hands are released and Kent's ropes around his wrists disintegrate. He moves past me and calls to the Tower for a way out. I move to his back to provide coverage as Klarion the Witchboy starts throwing a temper tantrum.
"No. NO. NO!" he shouts. "I want that helmet!"
"Dleihs su!" I shout, creating a shield around the elevator Kent summoned.
A hand grabs me around the forearm and pulls me into the elevator with a jerk. Klarion's magic disintegrates my shield just as the elevator doors close before us.
I turn to find the hand still attached to my forearm belongs to Wally. I raise an eyebrow at him and he realizes that he's still gripping my arm.
"Sorry," he mumbles before placing his hands on his hips.
I glance at him. "It's alright. Thanks for dragging me into the elevator. Klarion and I probably would have gone for a round 2 if not."
Kent clears his throat. "Friends of yours, Kimberly?"
I glance at the two, "Friends of a friend."
The older man chuckles before turning to the two. "I'm Kent Nelson," he introduces.
Wally rolls his eyes. "No duh," he comments.
Artemis elbows him, causing the boy to grumble before introducing herself. "I'm Artemis," she glances at Wally. "And Miss Manners over here is Wally."
"Well, Artemis, we're up against an opponent with tremendous mystic power," Kent informs her.
Wally scoffs, "Abra Kadabra? Flash proved that he uses futuristic technology to simulate magic. Guy's all show, no biz."
"He is?" Artemis asks, stunned.
I shrug my shoulders. "Yeah, but that's not who Kent's talking about. That other guy, Klarion the Witchboy, he's a Lord of Chaos."
"An ultimate enemy of a Lord of Order, like Doctor Fate," his eyes glance over at me. "Or even Kimberly here."
"Right," Wally draws out. "You two are Lords of Order." His eyes shift to me. "You aren't even a guy," he comments.
Over the years, I had learned quite a bit of patience, but Wally was making my patience draw thin tonight. "You don't have to be a guy to be a Lord of Order. It's just a title. And technically I'm not a Lord of Order yet. My training isn't finished," I explain.
"I'm not one either," Kent explains himself. "I'm just an old coat Fate used to put on until my wife Inza convinced me there could be more to life." He pulls out his pocket watch which has a picture of his wife in it. "Ah, she was a real pistol, that Inza."
I turn my attention away from Kent reminiscing. "Anyway," I say to draw the other two's attention. "Klarion's after the Helmet of Fate."
Kent puts his pocketwatch away. "If he get's his sticky little mitts on it, he'll turn the planet into his own personal playground of pandemonium."
The elevator dings and we all turn to see a large bell. Kent leads the way to it and when we reach it, the Tower opens up a trapdoor and Kaldur and Superboy fall through. Megan simply floats down after them. Kent turns to Wally.
"Friends of yours?" he asks as Artemis runs forward to help the boys up.
Before Wally can answer, a bolt of electricity shoots past us and sends the three of us leaping out of the way. My attention turns to Abra Kadabra and Klarion, who stand on a platform not far from us.
"Friends of yours?" Wally calls back to him.
As he helps Kent up and out of the way, I stand solid against another blast. "Dleihs!"
A purple shield appears, and I follow after Wally and Kent as they head towards the bell again. The shield follows me as I move after them, keeping the electricity from touching any of us. I hear the bell tolling from behind and Wally's gasp from the yellow light shining from it.
I glance over my shoulder and when the two disappear into the bell, I dive in after them and appear on top of the Tower. Kent goes to grab the helmet that's floating midair but gets blasted by a red bolt of magic.
"KENT!" I scream before turning to glare at the Witchboy standing atop the tower.
I extend my arm and send a bolt of purple magic flying through the air, striking him and sending him flying backwards into the air. It takes him a moment, but when he recovers his attention turns to me. However, I've already made it to Wally and Kent. Wally's helping support Kent's weight as he starts chanting a shield spell. As soon as he's finished and dug his cane into the cobbled roof of the Tower, he collapses backwards into Wally.
"Not bad for a former "Doctor Fake," eh, Kid?" Kent jokes.
His attention turns to me. "The Bubble'll give you just enough time to do what you need to do," he explains.
A frown etches across my face. "I'm not ready," I tell him. "I need more time."
Kent chuckles, "Time's up, Kimberly. I've always had faith in you. Your parents would be so proud of everything you've accomplished."
Tears start to prickle the edges of my eyes. "You can't leave me, Kent! Not like this!"
Kent's older, wrinkled hand grasps my own. "I will be with my Inza again. Find your own Inza, Kimberly. Do not let your responsibilities rob you of a life you deserve."
Tears flow down my face as Kent turns to Wally. "Have faith in what you can't explain, kid. Believe in what you can no longer deny."
Kent's last breath escapes him and a heart wrenching scream escapes me. Wally launches into CPR to save Kent, but I know it's no use. He's 106 and been looking forward to reuniting with Inza. His grip on death is tight and he won't relinquish it easily.
Using the back of my hoodie's sleeve, I furiously whip away the tears and calm myself. Klarion will take no pity upon me. I need to recenter my focus and get a grip on my magic. With Wally here, any slip of control could result in an injury to him.
When I look back to Wally to get a quick strategy in place, I see him stopping the CPR that he had started the moment Kent breathed his last breath. He turns to me with a frown. "I'm sorry, Kim. He's gone."
A sob wells up in my throat, but I hold it back. I can mourn later. No matter how much I want to crumble to the ground right now, I need to uphold my responsibilities. Klarion will get the helmet and I can't allow that.
"I WANT THE HELMET AND I WANT IT NOW!" Klarion screeches as he launches blast after blast of magic at the shield, trying to break it. His red magic curling around the shield.
"Wally, I need you to keep the helmet safe," I tell him. "I'll take care of Klarion."
He glances at the helmet. "My team, they're in trouble," he says quickly. "We need Doctor Fate."
I snatch the helmet from the air and put it in his arms. I point at the helmet. "I will take care of Klarion and then we will help your team. But by no means should you put this helmet on. You may never get it off, do you understand me?"
Wally gives me a couple short nods and I take a deep breath before turning around.
"Ydaer em rof elttab!" Purple smoke swirls around me and my clothes change from the jeans and hoodie I had been wearing to my training attire. I'm wearing a deep purple Kevlar suit with a pair of boots the same color, trimmed with silver. The sleeves of my suit are cut off at the shoulder and a tunic is situated over the top of it. It's held against my suit with a silver belt and silver shoulder covers. Fingerless gloves made of Kevlar run up my arm and stop short of the shoulder covers. Silver bracers with amethyst gems are embedded in the bracers that stop halfway up my forearm. Around my neck is a silver necklace and across my chest is a golden bird with it's arms spread and an amethyst gem embedded in its center. Flowing from my shoulders is a purple cape lined with silver. Lastly, at my hip, a silver hilted sword is attached with it's blade sheathed.
Klarion glares at me with narrowed eyes. "Amethyst! I should have know you were meddling around here!" With a grunt, he casts forward two clawed hands that sink into the shield.
I turn back around and see Wally holding the helmet to his chest. "Are you ready? He'll go after you because you have the helmet."
Wally's eyes look up to meet my own. "Have faith," he mumbles. His hands start raising the helmet above his head.
"Don't Wally!" I shout as I move forward. But I don't get far before the shield gets torn apart and get a blast in the back from Klarion.
I get thrown into the side of the Tower's wall but I quickly stand to me feet in time to see Klarion releasing a large blast of magic at Wally, who slides the helmet on just in time for Fate to shield him. I turn to Klarion and throw my own blast of magic at him.
He tries to block it but doesn't succeed. It throws him several feet and his anger turns to me again. "You're messing everything up! Why can't you mind your own business?!" He reaches out and sends a blast of energy at me.
"Dleihs em!" I shout, casting a large purple wall to block the blast of his magic.
The force of it shoves me backwards a few feet, but my shield stands strong against him.
Doctor Fate's glowing stops, meaning that he's taken full control of Wally's body, and he floats into the air. "Klarion. This ends now."
Klarion turns his attention away from me and starts casting blasts at the floating Doctor Fate. "Give it up Nabu! Order went out of style in the twentieth century."
"This battle is pointless," Nabu announces. "You sought to take the helmet before it claimed a host, but you are too late."
"Shut it you old fart!" Klarion shouts at him. He raises his arms and two pillars made out of the Tower raises and arches until it traps Doctor Fate within.
"WALLY!" I shout, moving forward, alarmed at what Klarion's done. Nabu takes most of the hits, but physical ones like that can still hurt Wally.
Doctor Fate sends a blast of magic back at the Lord of Chaos, causing the witchboy to teleport out of the way. He reappears behind Doctor Fate and before he can do any damage, I send a blast of magic his way, toppling him over. The electrical magic he was sending hurtling towards Fate's back misses it's mark. However, Klarion's attention focuses on me.
"AGH! I'm done with your meddling!" he screams before teleporting away.
I whirl around, only to be met with Klarion's face in mine. His hand grabs my bicep and an electrical current rips through my body, blinding me with pain. I slump to the ground and spots cloud my vision as pain continues to erupt through me.
Above me, Klarion sends another attack at Doctor Fate. He manages to dodge the first one, but the second one sends him tumbling to the ground. Klarion starts sending smaller blasts at Fate but thankfully, he manages to shield himself in time.
My vision starts to clear again and it gets easier to breath, but pain still erupts through my body. Klarion's Chaos magic is not agreeing with the Order magic within my body. They are fighting for dominance within me.
Fate's shield breaks and Klarion starts breathing magical fire at the Lord of Order as he flies above us. Klarion manages to sneak a blast of magic at him as he dodges another attack, sending the Lord of Order falling to the ground.
"You're out of practice, Nabu, and that pathetic host body, zero affinity for the mystic arts," Klarion taunts him before summoning a storm above our heads.
Red lightening shoots from the sky and Fate manages to cast a bubble shield just before it hits him. Klarion's familiar meows from next to me and the witchboy's attention turns back to me.
"Yeah, I should do something about her," Klarion admits. It meows again and he huffs. "I am paying attention. In case you haven't noticed, I'm winning!"
Klarion raises a hand towards me and I fight the pain as I stand to my feet, sneering at the witchboy. "You're not winning, Klarion," I tell him. "As long as we are here to stand against you, you are merely existing in our plane."
At those words, Doctor Fate breaks from the bubble shield and sends a powerful wind towards Klarion and I. The wind merely blows past me but it nearly knocks Klarion off his feet.
"It is difficult for a Lord of Order or Chaos to maintain a presence on the physical plane," Fate announces.
Klarion's face morphs and he screeches angrily before sending powerful blasts of magic towards the Lord of Order. However, Fate merely dodges the blasts as he continues to speak.
"I am bound to the helmet, and use a human host," he informs before sending a blast towards Klarion.
The witchboy merely forms a wall from the brick of the tower to protect him.
"That is not your way," Fate continues.
"You're babbling, Nabu!" Klarion shouts.
"Am I?" Doctor Fate asks.
Klarion turns to find my hand trained on his cat familiar. I send a blast of purple magic towards the small beast. It reaches it's mark and sends the cat flying backwards.
"TEEKL!" Klarion screams before glaring angrily at me. "I can't believe you would assault a defenseless pussycat," he hisses at me.
"We all know that creature is no cat, Witchboy," Fate announces, defending my attack on the familiar. "And without your familiar, you have no anchor in this reality."
Fate raises his glowing hands, preparing for another attack. Klarion turns to face him, anger etching across his face. "Bully! Killjoy! Geezer!" He then turns to me. "Wannabee!"
Doctor Fate blasts at Klarion, causing him to portal away from the attack and near his familiar. "We're outta here!" the witchboy announces before teleporting away.
With Klarion gone, Doctor Fate makes his way towards where I stand, holding my bicep. Most of the pain was gone now, just the initial area where I was electrocuted was still pulsing with pain. I glance up at the glazed over green eyes of Wally under the helmet of Fate.
"You fought diligently against the Witchboy tonight, Amethyst," Doctor Fate announces.
I frown up at the Lord of Order. "I'm not Amethyst, not yet."
"Do not sell yourself short, Kimberly. While you still have a lot of training yet, you are on your way to becoming Amethyst. I do not see why you cannot take the name now," Doctor Fate says.
My eyes shift to the ground. "I'm not ready for the responsibility that comes with the name. Not yet at least," I explain before looking back up at him. "You need to released Wally. He doesn't have an affinity to the mystic arts and isn't able of holding his own to magical attacks. You need a stronger host."
Wally's eyes meet my own but I know it's Nabu staring at me. "This world needs Order. If you are not willing to bring Order—"
"I never said I wouldn't bring order. I just won't do it as Amethyst," I interject.
Nabu looks at me through Wally's eyes. "You and Kent make compelling arguments."
"Kent?" I question, my eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
Nabu nods. "He is inside the helmet. Offering to keep me company if I release your friend."
I frown at his statement. Kent must have been sucked inside the helmet when Wally put it on. He's been waiting for years to see Inza and now he'll have to wait who knows how long before Nabu releases him from the helmet.
"You shouldn't keep either of them. Kent deserves to see Inza again and Wally deserves to live his life," I argue. "Release them, Nabu!"
My hands glow purple from the anger, but I know I can't physically fight Nabu. It would only hurt Wally in the long run.
I watch as Wally's green eyes unglaze and his hands reach up and take off the helmet. In a flash of yellow light, Wally stands before me holding the helmet and smirking at me.
"Worried about me?" he questions.
The glow of my hands disappears but I do pull my arm back and punch the boy in the shoulder.
"OW! What was that for?" he questions as he rubs his shoulder.
I snatch the helmet from him. "You are an idiot! I told you to keep the helmet safe! Not wear it! Do you have any idea how lucky you are? Nabu kept Kent in that helmet for nearly forty years!"
Wally just gives me a sheepish look. "Kent told me to have faith so I did."
I breath out a hot breath through my nose. I close my eyes, harnessing my anger. When I feel in control of my anger I open my eyes and glare at the boy again. "He meant in magic. How does that correlate to you putting the helmet on?"
The boy shrugs his shoulders. "Everything worked out so I don't see why your so upset," he comments.
I point a finger at him before taking another deep breath. "I can't deal with you right now," I inform him before turning back to Kent's body across the roof.
My feet carry me forward until I stand next to him. I fall to my knees and grab his wrinkly hand that's just a few inches from his pocket watch with Inza's picture in it. I place it back into his hand and fold his fingers over the top of it.
I glance at the helmet in my hands and feel tears prickling my eyes. All he wanted was to see Inza again, but he couldn't. Nabu has him captive once again in that helmet. If his soul couldn't be with her for now, I would make sure his body could rest next to hers. It is the least I can do after everything he's done for me.
