Amy wasn't sure what was worse about what had been happening lately. She, her older twin sister Mal and her friends Jay, Carlos and Evie had learned about an event being planned that in theory should have sounded cool. It was called the Jewel-bilee. It was a ceremony that was supposed to take place soon...

There had been a slumber party in the throne room and despite not only the ranger activity but a dance that had also had a slight interruption from CJ, daughter (and one of the children) of Captain Hook energy had still been high as Audrey told them all about a party that weekend.

"How does anyone get any studying done around here?" Freddie, daughter of Dr. Facilier questioned though Amy doubted her friend was really all that worried about studying. Of course as far as the rose haired girl knew Freddie was also not in on the whole 'ranger' thing and hence didn't know how much studying really didn't happen in their circle anyway.

Mal had asked what the party was for and Audrey and proclaimed, "The Jewel-bilee."

"Wait, wait, I'm going to a Jewel-bilee?" The purple haired girl asked.

"Oh, that sounds so awesome." Amy said happily. She loved parties and thought the idea of a party around sparkly jewels would be, to quote their new Enchancian friend Princess Sofia, ah-mazing.

Jane had gasped and said softly, "They don't know."

Audrey had explained it was a ceremony that where each of the children of Auradon were given birthright jewels upon proving they were good. Something each of VK's had proven in very recent times when they took on the role as the power rangers of Auradon.

"For the first time they're releasing jewels for the VK's." Audrey had gushed. "When the villains were relocated their jewels were collected." Mal had interpreted that as stolen but Amy wondered if there had been a reason for that, maybe they were more than just ceremonial. "And now Auradon will now bestow them upon you at the Jewel-bilee."

"They're giving us our own jewels?" Freddie asked deadpan. "How generous." Again though Amy found herself wondering if they were more then just a ceremonial thing. But no one seemed to even think about that.

They had been having tea at the time and Jane revealed she had tried a spell that would help their skins, and it had not gone well, instead giving them all different colored faces almost like the many colors of Lonnie's neon dance routine. Amy was glad hers at least been pink, a lighter color, while Mal's had been a darker pink.

"Maybe mine will even match my jewel." Mal tried to roll with the situation.

"I'd love a pink jewel." Amy said. "Maybe it'll match my hair. I could get it in pendant to go with my clothes." Most of what she owned was pink in color, including her pink and white leather tank top she wore that day, though this one just straight out had the words 'Think Pink' on it, a she had started ditching the evil portion of the saying.

"Wait, nobody told them." Lonnie commented in surprise.

"Maleficent hid your jewel somewhere on the isle." Allie revealed to Mal.

"Everyone looked but it was never found." Audrey added.

"What about Amy's jewel?" Evie asked. She could already feel her chosen sister's disappointment and given how the evil fairy had thought about Amy dealt the younger twin was going to receive any better news.

"When Maleficent got a hold of their jewels and did whatever she did with Mal's jewel, she simply tossed Amy's in the ocean." Jordan had answered. "We couldn't find it. Even King Triton's people tried to help find it, but they never did." The ocean was a big place, arguably the biggest place on the entire planet. It could be anywhere...including in the stomach of an ocean creature that may or may not even be long dead.

Mal sighed, trying to hide her disappointment. "After all this time, mom is still ruining our lives." She mused. Never before had she wished her mother was still a newt shoved in a jar somewhere, she could have thanked Paradias for that given freedom if the team hadn't destroyed him a while ago.

Later on it had just been the three VK girls. "So thanks to our mom, we're now outsiders. Again." Mal huffed as she paced. Amy sat on the chair by Evie's dresser while the blue haired girl sat on the edge of her bed. "But you know what, not this time. I'm going back to the isle and I'm going to find that jewel."

"I wish I had that luxury." Amy admitted softly. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be really mad and blow something up or be really sad and cry for a week.

"Well okay, then I'm going with." Evie decided as she stood up.

Mal held up her hand. "No, Evie. I don't want you to get in trouble." The purple haired girl looked to her rose haired younger twin sister. "Either of you."

"But it's okay for you?" Evie pointed out.

Mal started walking to the door.. "I'm the daughter of the most evil villain in the world you know...at least in our world anyway. I'm always in trouble." She countered

"Hey, I am too." Amy gave a weak protest at that. She was in theory Maleficent's younger daughter as well.

"Yeah but you're never in trouble." Mal reminded her. She had always been too good for the isle, and possibly too good for Auradon sometimes. "I getting that jewel, and nobody, not even my mother, is going to stop me." With that her older sister had left.

Amy should have gone with her, she knew that. But she couldn't find that energy. She instead went to the library and tried to research her own jewel as much as she could. She had wondered if Maleficent had stolen that information somehow with her most recent visit.

"Need some help?" Melody asked as she and Aquiella came up to her.

"Thanks, but you don't have to." Amy said to her mermaid friends.

"We want to." Aquiella assured her. "I even called my sisters and cousins in Atlantica and asked them to keep see if they could find anything out." She sat by her friend as they spoke,

Amy nodded a bit. She couldn't really stop them anyway, now could she? "Thanks guys." She said with a sad smile. It wasn't long before Alex, Ellie and Miranda had also shown up to help out. After some digging they actually found pictures of the birthright jewels, including Amy's. It was indeed a light pink jewel that would have gone with just about everything. To think she never would have it...it made Amy even sadder now.

"I'm sorry." Ellie said to her as Alex squeezed her shoulders softly. "I wish there was something we could do." But of course Arendelle was far away and what happened in Auradon was something no one there had control over. She did notice Miranda had taken out her phone and was sending a text to her mother though. Maybe it was her birthday or something?

"It's okay." Amy said as she placed one of her hand's on Alex's hand. "It's not the fault of anyone here. Just my mother, proving once again what she thinks about me."

Later that evening Amy had learned Mal had indeed gone to the isle to search for her birthright jewel with help from Freddie. That had amused Amy just a little as Mal and Freddie were not exactly best friends, despite the purple haired girl knowing that her twin sister liked her just fine. Mal had not wanted to go into detail and she knew that Mal being closed off about it hurt Evie almost as much as it did Amy herself.

But later that night, while Mal slept in her bed, across from her Amy started to get a headache that she couldn't shake off and she couldn't understand why...nothing seemed off, even that weird necklace thing that Freddie had given Mal as a consolation prize seemed perfectly normal to her.

"I still don't understand how my rehearsal got so messed up." Audrey said even as she slashed down an Imp with her silver bow. Somehow with the loss of Paradias some of the minor demons had taken up the role of foot soldiers. At least Chad was no where around. "Not without some kind of magical help."

"But we know it wasn't Mal." Lonnie reminded her as she took out an Imp with her tessen. "She's proven she's not evil anymore. Amy and Evie aren't even capable of that kind of magic." Evie had all but rejected the magical heritage that came with being daughter of the wicked witch Grimhilde and Amy's magic was more elemental control and mind reading though she had not been able to figure out how she couldn't sense anything amiss during the rehearsal.

Miranda impaled an Imp with her two swords, it dissipated before they could see if she would have gutted it in half to continue their fight. "Maybe it's another monster then. We've had our share of magic using beastie's in our time. Red Magi easily comes to mind." She suggested.

"Sure, maybe he secretly hates dance routines." Will suggested as he used his recursive blade to take out his own Imp.

Further on up Mal, Amy, Carlos, Jay and Ben were teaming up against the monster that had lead the attack, thankfully not a demon, just some kind of weird monkey like creature that reminded the Auradon Knight and king of the land as a bit too much like one of Sermaya's minions, another old adversary long gone.

"Okay I'm just gonna nuke this thing." Mal decided as she got ready to activate her battlizer. Then she felt...something strange but she wasn't sure what it was. A green tint flooded her vision. Then Mal powered down. "Uh...what the heck just happened to my powers?" She asked.

"Don't know, but we're all doing just fine." Jay replied as Ben stepped forward to protect Mal in case the monkey monster noticed the purple ranger's power fizzle out and decided to act upon it.

"Uh oh." Ruby gasped a bit from the middle and shouted out, "Our purple leader just had a short circuit."

"Audrey, you might want to get up there and nuke that monster so we can move onto the next problem of the day." Ellie suggested to the Auradon red ranger princess.

"I'm on it." Audrey replied and quickly made her way up front, seeing Jay and Carlos move in to keep the monster distracted. As she moved forward armor assembled all over her body. It glowed with a mixture of red and pinks. The earrings slipped out of her helmet and the long elegant silk like ribbons emerged from over her shoulders, she felt the same colored crystals that resembled her earring growing around her waist and then moving all around it like a skirt.

The monster leapt past the black and yellow rangers toward Mal and Ben. Ben brought up his shield to deflect the monster and toss it away. Then Audrey rose above them and unleashed a crystalline shower down on the monster before the ribbons encircled it. With a mighty toss the ribbons didn't seem capable of doing, the creature was high in the air before the red crystallized armored ranger blasted it with a beam that destroyed it.

The last Imps were easily dealt with and the team assembled around Mal. "What happened to your powers?" Grant asked.

"I have no idea." The purple haired girl replied. She took out her iPhone and input her numbers, 6319, and morphed again. "But they look like they're working now."

"I'll take them to the command center and have them analyzed." Evie said. "Maybe it's something we all need to be aware of. I mean aside from some upgrades we've been using these non-stop. Maybe it's some sign that we need to think about repairs."

"Good idea E." Mal said as she powered down and handed her blue haired chosen sister her morpher. But even as they started back Mal's eyes flared green again.

That evening after rehearsals as Melody and Aquiella were heading to their bedroom they heard Audrey scream. Worried that Chad was involved they rushed to her room, the aqua ranger already summoning her trident but instead found one wall of her room had been vandalized, the words Long Live Evil were spray painted with the shadowy image of Maleficent there.

"Is this...some weird joke Chad is pulling?" Aquiella asked uncertainly.

"Not his style." Audrey said dismissively. "But it is Mal's style."

"She wouldn't do this though." Melody reminded her. "Maybe someone is trying to frame her though."

Amy and Ellie appeared moments later. "Oh my pink." The rose haired girl gasped. That was certainly had been her twin sister's calling card and yet..."I know what this looks like, but this can't be what it seems."

"Then what would you call it?" Audrey asked her. "Because short of some unknown trying to frame Mal for some reason, I can't think of anything else that it could be. Sometimes, the most obvious thing is the right thing."

It hadn't stopped Audrey from going to confront Mal even as Amy, Ellie and the two mermaid girls watched her go. "Something is going on here." Amy said. "I can feel it. Mal...I admit, there's something going on. She isn't herself. I don't know what's going on though.

"But she wouldn't be evil." Aquiella said. "If she were truly turning to the dark side, you and I would feel it." Amy's bond with her twin sister already made reading thoughts and emotions easy enough, but with Aquiella around that power seemed to increase. Yet, they hadn't felt anything concrete since all of this had started.

Still Evie was the one to call everyone to the lunch room after hours. It was a good thing Amy was getting in an afternoon swimming session with Melody and Aquiella because when she had shown up with them, the rose haired girl noticed one glaring omission; Mal wasn't there. If she had been with her sister, she would have noticed her sister being left out of it. Ben however was also missing, courtesy of a council meeting.

"Something is wrong, and it's only getting worse." Evie had just said to Jay and Lonnie. When Amy asked what happened she explained the slight chemistry disaster that she had had to gloss over with a fashion faux pas that even Aquiella, the girl who spent most of her life under the sea, was surprised was bought. "Top that off with the morpher malfunction and...I don't know what to think."

"Doug, Evie and I did extensive testing between Mal's morpher and Evie's." Jane said now. "The morphers are in perfect working order, which might be odd considering all we've been through. But there is no explanation any of us can see for why Mal would have powered down in the middle of that fight."

"Well something is definitely wrong here." Audrey stated. She had been involved in all of the problems of late; the dance rehearsal issue, her room being tagged with the purple haired girl's once famous tagline, and now the chemistry incident. "And we need to find out what it is."

"Find out what it is?" They heard from the doorway. They turned to see Mal there. She came in, setting her iPhone down. "Did I miss a scheduled team meeting somewhere?" She asked as she leaned against the wall. "Odd, since I lead this team and all."

"Hard to have a discussion about certain things, when the topic involves that person." Grant commented. Not very subtle but given how he grew up, on the island of Schadel, tact was not his strong suit. It was actually something Jordan privately admired about him, he didn't feel the need to hold back like most did to spare feelings.

"Mal...I can feel something wrong too." Amy said. "With you. I don't know what it is. And it's kind of scaring me."

Evie thought that might snap some sense into her chosen sister but after a moment's hesitation Mal only shook her head. "You worry way too much Amy. Everything is just fine."

"What is going on with you?" Audrey asked now. "I get it, you have a lot going on. A lot of stress. We all do."

"Trying to make this about yourself Audrey?" Mal asked. That surprised everyone to hear just a little bit. Not that Mal wasn't one to stand up to the Auradon princess when needed, but in this case Audrey did appear to be in the right.

"No one said anything like that." Lonnie interrupted. "We're just trying to understand..."

"Yeah let's be cool." Carlos said. "We don't need accusations flying around like Aladdin on a carpet around here."

"Classy dude." Aziz shook his head at Carlos though he at least had the sense to look sheepish once he realized how weird that sounded, especially to his son.

"Is this about not getting a jewel?" Audrey now asked. "Look at your sister, she's not getting one either but she's accepted that with much more grace than you. She doesn't even seem upset about it."

Amy couldn't help it. "No one said I wasn't upset about it, I just..." She drifted a moment, trying to find a good way to explain it.

"Actually..." Miranda tried to cut in, hoping to change the subject a moment. Things had never been this tense, at least from an internal point of view.

"No matter how upset she would be Mal wouldn't do something like this." Evie said as she looked at Audrey. "It's not who she is."

As they all started trying to defend Mal or their positions the purple haired girl only watched impassively for a moment before trying to get them to stop arguing, then her eyes glowed green. "Bicker and holler, squabble and squawk, twist their words when next they talk." She intoned.

Sure enough when Audrey turned to Mal and spoke it was "In trouble big you are." Then she realized the incoherent sentence she had spoken.

"What now happening is?" Ally looked surprised, then realized she did the same thing too.

"Voices of our she's bewitched." Jane realized. She didn't even think such a thing was possible.

"Okay, okay." Evie tried to cut in now. "Things got a little heated, we're all saying things that didn't make any sense," And the blue haired girl wasn't just talking about the spell. "But I'm sure if we ask nicely Mal will take it all back." She looked to her chosen sister, their leader. "Right Mal?"

Amy felt that strange feeling again as Mal smirked. "Wrong. Audrey was right, I'm evil. Can't ever change that." She let out a small laugh as they all looked shocked. "Wouldn't want to take it back. Because I'm evil."

The the rose haired girl remembered the spell. Since Auradon always had food laying around she grabbed a strawberry tart and took a bite. "Eating breaks the spell guys. Dig in." The others did as she instructed.

Audrey looked to Mal now. What could they say? What was going on? "What is wrong with you Mal?" She demanded. "This isn't you...why, if I had the power I..." She really didn't know what to do.

"Would want to banish me from the Jewel-bilee? From all school activities?" Technically Audrey had that power as the head of all the committee's. "From Auradon?" Mal only mock pouted. "Oh that's okay Audrey. Because I'm evil. So good to be bad." With a laugh she used her magic to open the door and leave her stunned teammates, and her iPhone, behind.

"What is going on?" Jane repeated but this time did something no one expected her to do; she took off after Mal.

"This isn't Mal." Evie reflected as she took Amy's hand, both of them seeking comfort through the confusion. "Why is she acting like this?

Jane followed Mal to the Auradon museum and saw her cast a spell. The window vanished like it was nothing and the purple haired girl walked through it. "This is a bad, this is really bad." She sighed softly. She considered calling for back up but chose not to. Right now she was unnoticed, if she called the others that might change. She tailed Mal, seeing her grab the snake staff that once was used by Jay's father Jafar and then snuck out the window. "I've got to go tell the others." She decided.

Again the team assembled, this time in Mal and Amy's bedroom, and she walked in to see this. "Yet another intervention?" She questioned.

"Mal, why were you at the museum?" Evie asked.

"Do I look like I'm dressed for the museum?" She questioned.

"I followed you in." Jane said and got a green eyed glare for the admittance that made her back up a step.

"Mal, it's me." Evie reminded her. "I just want to help."

There was another flash of green eyes as Mal ordered, "Leave me alone!" When she pushed Evie back however the necklace that Amy had seen her with after her sister and Freddie had come back from the isle fell to the floor and broke open. And she recognized the green item inside when it broke open.

"Oh my pink, your jewel. I saw the picture with mine in the library yesterday." Amy gasped.

Evie knelt down to pick it up. "Your jewel...where did you get this?" She asked.

"That is mine." Mal stated and reached to grab it but Evil pulled away. She tossed it to Jay.

Jay caught it and Mal went for him but he was able to hold her back a lot easier than Evie could. "Sorry Mal, can't let you have it." He said.

Mal took a step back and seemed to come out of...whatever. "What is going on?"

"I'm thinking your darling mother cursed your jewel when she stole it and hid it that necklace on the isle." Jordan remarked. "That would explain your bit...witchy attitude as of late." She looked to Evie. "No offense."

"That would be why you've been acting so rotten to the core." Evie said.

"Freddie gave that necklace to you, not knowing that it would turn you into an evil she-witch." Carlos remarked.

Mal looked confused. "What did I do?" She asked. They explained what had transpired over the last day and she looked appropriately contrite. "Wow...that is horrible."

"I guess take some consolation in the fact she cared enough to curse your jewel." Amy tried to joke. "She didn't even care to curse mine." Mal gave her a soft, sad smile and hugged her twin sister. It was hard to say who got the worse end of the deal when it came to Maleficent but either way it stung both in different ways.

"I am so sorry everyone." Mal said with a sigh as she released Amy and stood up. "I don't know if I can apologize enough for that."

Audrey sighed. "It's not your fault Mal. We should all be used to Maleficent trying to put one over on us. It's just usually more...visceral than this." She replied. She looked to Evie and Amy too. "Sorry guys, I should know better."

"Yes you should." Amy chided lightly, but she couldn't blame the Auradon princess too much, this entire thing had been confusing and honestly very different from what they often tended to face and so she gave her an understanding smile. "But it's cool."

"So, not to make this awkward again but Jane mentioned that while you were...possessed...you took Jafar's snake staff from the Auradon museum." Ally said reluctantly. "It's rather clear you don't have it on you so...what did you do with it?"

Mal blinked a moment as she tried to recall anything. But it made sense that since she could not recall the spells she had cast in that frame of mind that she did not have an answer to that one either. "I have no idea." She sighed. "But I have to find it and put it back where it belongs."

"We have to find it and put it back where it belongs." Miranda corrected her. "Because something tells me it won't be as simple as we'd all hope it to be."
