17. Salvation
Joham was an attractive man, if you liked egocentric and fanatical as the main traits. He was Hispanic in origin, but that was mostly glossed over by the fact that he looked incredibly shaggy. Honestly, hadn't the man heard of a razor? At least someone trimmed his hair recently. I swear, my last visions of the man had him in style that neared is shoulder blades. Perhaps it was the hairdresser he had been attempting to court three months ago. Quite possible. Of course, there wasn't any substantial proof, as Serena had been bugging him for years to finally cut off that wretched ponytail.
And Serena, her mother had been young, like my own, when she became pregnant with her half-vampire baby. Just as Joham's had been, along with Maysun's mother and Jennifer's. That disgusting man preferred them that way, innocent and easy to manipulate. These girls and boys would never become fully mature.
Much like many vampires, this girl was a beauty. Much like most succubae, Heidi of the Volturi, and my mama, she was almost painfully gorgeous. Defined eyebrows, thick brown hair, full lips, large eyes, high cheekbones, and a button nose. She was slim but had definite curves. Sure, she wasn't the most endowed in the chest area, my mother was the queen of that with all the vampires I've met, but she wasn't exactly flat. However, she looked so dainty, much like myself. It was a trait all female half-breeds had as far as I knew, the fragility in their appearance.
I continued to watch them from my perch. Ever so slowly, I crawled down from my tree. It was my favorite tree, nice and lush. Joham and Serena were none the wiser, but my family could see me move. Like I knew, these two crazies had to be put down, like a lame horse. Unfortunately, guns weren't effective on vampires or hybrids. If they were, I could have done this from the trees. Of course, humanity would have a fighting chance if they worked as well. Honestly, humanity was so out of luck when it came to opposing the supernatural world. The best thing they could do would to be sure we're all in one location and then bombing the area. But, that would never happen, so it wasn't a true worry for me to think over.
As I approached the two, I directed my voice to Zafrina and her alone. "Take out Nahuel and Huilen's senses. They don't need to see this. Or hear it. I don't want them smelling the fire from their ashes either." Quickly, I tackled the hybrid fanatic to the rainforest floor. My father tried to charge Joham, but Kachiri kept him back. When my mother did the same, Senna grabbed a hold of her. This was my fight. This man killed my father. My mother would have died either way, but there was no reason for my father to die.
I snapped back my physical shield tightly around my body, its natural state, just as Joham joined in. Before he could do anything serious, I kicked him back while spinning out of Serena's intended punch. Two assailants would be no problem. I'd fought the sisters plus Huilen at the same time with no difficulty just last week. Immediately after dodging another swing, I had to bat away Nahuel's father yet again. Thankfully I kept another shield domed around us to keep either of them from escaping, because once Joham realized it was possible he could die today, he tried to take the coward's way out by ditching his daughter and running away. Unfortunately for him, Serena saw his back as he turned to retreat just before he smacked into my electrocuting shield. It wasn't much pain, but it was enough to knock him down.
Wuss.
As he convulsed on the forest floor, she abandoned our battle to kneel over him. The moment before he came to, she wrapped her hands around his throat. Her words were in Polish, but I understood them as if she were speaking English. "You son of a bitch. After all I have done for you? I have fought for you. I have stolen for you. I have killed for you! And yet you repay me by leaving me to my death? Your daughter! Your flesh and blood! My mother was your mate, your love! You would leave the child of your love-making to be destroyed? How dare you! I have done everything for you! Everything! I seduced human men for children. I seduced vampire men for children. How could you abandon me? How?!" By the end, she was weeping but didn't appear to notice the venomous tears streaming down her face.
Carefully, Joham leaned in to whisper to Serena, choosing Portugese, "I never loved your mother. We were never mates. I do not love you." He fell back with a laugh. Dear gosh, this man was nuts. He's more kooky than Rose Nyisland from 'Golden Girls'. "I never loved you! I never loved your sisters or your brother either. And you tried so hard to please me. I enjoyed watching you strive to win my affection. It almost makes it all worth it. Tell me, Serena, how could I ever love you when there's nothing in you to love?" This time, his laughter was dark and manacle. Up until the point that she bit off his head.
A moment passed in silence before she spoke again, "what have I done?" As if believing she made some grave mistake, she began trying to put his head back on his torso, but I hurriedly stepped in to stop her.
"I can ease your pain. The pain of knowing the one you care for most will never return your love. I know it well. Let me ease it for you. Let me end your suffering."
She turned to me, her blue eyes filled with wetness and grief. "Yes. Please, yes."
Swiftly, I blocked out her senses before wrenching off her head. I knew Zafrina was already starting the fire for their burning. As soon as we had a good blaze going, I threw Serena's head into it before following up with the rest of her, knowing it would be, at most with as high as the flames were, a minute for her existence to come to an end. I saw no reason for her to suffer.
Joham would be different.
I ripped out his jaw and cracked open his skull. All that needed to be destroyed was his brain for him to no longer be 'alive' in a sense. So, I tore it all out. Each and every little bit, as slowly as my patience allowed. Kachiri would have a body to experiment on to scar family crests into. Perhaps I would get her more later; certainly couldn't hurt.
It was a week before Nahuel could even look at me. He growled whenever we were close together, and since we were planning a search and rescue for his other two sisters, it was almost constantly. Once, he had snapped at me. He had charged me, planning on ripping my head right off my body like I had done his sister. For some odd reason, he thought he could lead the clan better, that he was more fit due to his status as older and, well, a male.
Swift as the coursing river, I threw him through one of the glass walls during his mid-launch. He was angry with me. He didn't think Serena's death was necessary; however, I knew better. If I had let her go, she would have sought out the Volturi and beg for vengeance. They, of course, would not give it to her. Instead, she would be tortured by Caius, studied by Aro, and bred by a guard. Most likely Demetri or Alec. Possibly Felix. Eventually the Cullens might have been called in, but it was unlikely. The kings knew how much of a bleeding heart Carlisle had. The good doctor would have wanted to take Serena home to Esme so that she could smother her. It wouldn't have ended well.
With a snarl as he flew through the air before smashing into some trees, knocking them right over, I launched myself after him. Nahuel was going to get what was coming to him one way or another. As soon as he landed, he vaulted right back at me while I was in mid-air. Someone with less experience would have been at a disadvantage as the new attacker had more control over the situation.
Upon contact, I swung a leg around his hips and another around one of his own legs. Nahuel tried to find purchase upon my face with his fingers, but my shield kept thwarting his attempts. We landed quickly, and he tried to bite my throat. I took advantage of the chance and wrapped an arm around his neck and another around his chest. Before he could process what I was doing, I twisted with all my vampire strength, using the shield to push even further until his top and bottom halves were no longer connected.
Ignoring his legs and his screams of pain, I turned him around. Huilen screeched at me, begging me to stop, but my friend needed to learn his place within the McCarty Clan. With my knee in his back, I pulled and off came his arms. Of course, it would be so much easier had I bitten him first, making it a clean separation, but the hurt would teach him manners. Honestly, he was lucky we were like family. Otherwise I would have torn him apart ages ago.
Casting aside his limbs, I roared at his immobile form. I amplified the dark, sickly red of fear until I could feel the scratchy material try to scrape away at my mind. A lesser person would have begun spewing their last meal at the disgusting sour taste it gave me.
"You stupid boy," I began, "you dare question my judgment, your sister's choice, of the end of her existence. She wanted it. She knew he never loved her for he told her so! She'd been following him as a blind sheep for the past two centuries, doing anything he asked of her, for his love. All her life he had manipulated her, used her, and she thought it to be out of love. Once she knew it was a lie, her whole life, she wanted it to end. She never would have forgiven herself to snapping his neck. She never would have wanted him dead. He needed to die, you know this. She wanted her pain to end. Why would you desecrate her death? You humiliate her memory with your actions."
Swiftly, I turn from him. "Until you can prove yourself, you will not be leading Huilen in my absence. You'll do more damage than good. You'll be here on your own, Nahuel." I spit out his name with disdain. As much as I hated it, this had to be done. Nahuel, at the moment, wasn't good for the Clan. As the leader, I had to make those tough choices to better our group, and killing her was one of those choices. He needed to learn to not only respect my decisions, but respect me.
He never had.
"Soon, we'll be leaving; we've got to rescue your sisters, and they'll be staying with the Amazons, just like your aunt. She'll be a familiar face for them to rely on while you'll be on a restriction." Daddy would have said 'grounded', but that would just belittle the situation. "Until you prove worthy, and I hope it's soon, you won't be seeing anyone. I plan on leaving here within a few months, and if you aren't up to shipshape by then, they're coming with me. You won't have anyone at all then, and I won't be saving you if you get into trouble.
"If I have to sacrifice you to keep your family out of this mess, I will."
It was part of the tough choices as a leader. A choice I hoped I never had to make.
Another two weeks found the seven of us, minus Nahuel who I could see through visions was still sulking in his partially wrecked home, close to Lima. Many times I was close to snarling, seeing him in the back of my mind contemplating tearing down my house. Oh, he would be in for a brawl with my father if that ever happened. And he wouldn't just walk away, sans arms and legs, at that. Zafrina might get a couple hits in too, seeing as she was fairly fond of my Brazilian home.
Then there was the vision of seeing him wreck my car. He would be a pile of body parts if he ever went through with that decision. Mama and I loved the Dino. It was the first vehicle, aside from my truck, that we worked on together.
And she was coming around, willing to deal with all my icky times. I could see it. And I knew it as well. Mama was finally accepting that I wasn't a perfect baby anymore; that I never had been. It would take a while, of course, but she was coming around. I just wish it hadn't taken her until now to figure out I was her baby no matter how different I am.
Suddenly, I felt two strong, unfamiliar pings. We were in a heavily human infested location, so the vampires would obviously be here, but they weren't intense enough to be vampires. Half-breeds, obviously.
Immediately, I veered to the east, unwilling to lose their location, and my clan mimicked my action. Huilen would have to go in first, as they trusted her most out of us. Ideally, we would have had Nahuel here to convince them to come with us, but we didn't have that option right now. Originally, it would have just been the three of us to come get the two of them; however, I wasn't sure it would work with just Huilen and I. Peter's clairvoyance had been silent with everything relating to these two girls, and my visions had been wonky up until having them underneath my radar.
I wasn't infallible; the clan just believed me to be. Idiots, the lot of them.
It was an abandoned apartment building that Joham had been letting these girls call home. I knew by the news that it was supposed to be torn down in a week because of how bad off it was. This place was just a large shack, infestation included. Immediately, we surrounded the place.
Huilen strutted in, myself following closely to her. We could both hear their heartbeats echoing in the building, just like I knew they could hear mine.
"Maysun! Jennifer! I know you're home. Come on out." Most likely, they thought I was Nahuel as they fled their hiding spots almost instantly. Upon seeing me, they hissed and crouched down to defend their place. "No, no. It's alright. She's like you. She's like Nahuel." I felt insulted at the last comparison. The two of them stood slowly, still wary of me.
Maysun, the elder of the two girls, was physically older than Jennifer or I. She was eighteen, maybe nineteen, looking. Her mother was most likely a Latin woman, seeing as she had more Hispanic features than either of her sisters, and the gorgeous skin complexion carried over. She had such thick hair, it was probably difficult to brush it at times if she went without caring for her hygiene for a little while. Unlike all the vampires I've seen through visions and the few I've met personally, she had the occasional freckle. They were a bit too big to be called such, but I was certain she would find offense if I called them anything else. A large nose and close together, green eyes decorated her face, along with her wide mouth that had thick lips with no cupid's bow. Her eyebrows had some arch, but they were fairly long to give them definition. Maysun's body was, like I thought it to be, delicate in appearance; although, her chest was much more busty than my own. Everything about here seemed tall, and she was no where near short herself. All of her limbs were long, along with her torso, and she had such wide, bony hips. Plus those knobby knees.
Then there was Jennifer, who was probably a couple years older than myself in physical looks, but seemed fresh out of her growing stage. She had long, thick, orangeish-red hair that held curling waves. It wasn't like my own curls that sprung back with a bounce, but more like the soft curls given to someone due to a very thick curling iron. She was a similar to her sister with her long legs, arms, and torso on a body that was a small handful of inches short of six feet. Then there was her giant purple eyes, rivaling my own in size. Her eyebrows were more sculpted, her lips more uneven with a thin top one and thick bottom, plus a more defined centered arch. Her skin was fairly pale, leaving her cheeks in a constant blush from the rushing blood. Where as her sister was almost gangly looking, Jennifer was much more puffy.
They didn't look related at all.
"Joham and Serena have been destroyed. You're free now. Come with us, we can take care of you." Obviously, Jennifer was much more trusting as she skipped over to us with a giggle. Maysun, I hoped, wouldn't be too difficult to convince as well. "Come, you cannot stay here. This place is scheduled for demolition soon. Come with us. You have a place, a home, waiting for you." It was a moment later that the elder of the girls rushed at us, wrapping her arms around Huilen in a hug as she broke down in sobs. "Yes, you are free."
I didn't need the Amazons to give them their salvation today after all.
Ending Author's Notes: Now that I'm back into writing, I so want to write a Twilight and Harry Potter crossover. Mostly, the Twilight characters having been born in the wizarding world. Gotta work out some kinks first if I ever get around to it. Fuck, not sure if I'd rather collab that or talk to someone first. Don't know. What do you guys think about it? Would you be interested in reading that?
I have a tumblr; there is a link to the blog for this story on my profile. It has pictures and links to stuff. I'm still working on it, so not everything's up. Sorry.
Review! Please?
