Chapter 3: A Secret Unveiled
4th Avenue and Hazelnut drive intersection, 10:02 AM
Both Ecto-1 and Neptune's car pulled over near the corner. The occupants exited the cars, gear in hand.
"This is where you two found that slime stuff?" Bridget asked, turning on the Gigometer.
"Yep, just near the stop light." Neptune said, pointing towards a corner.
"Alright, let's go," Roxxy said.
The six walked over towards the corner, cars honking and beeping at them.
"Hey, what's the big idea?!" A cab driver shouted.
"Hey, come on, you're still on the meter, go around, " Neptune replied back snarkly.
Roxxy stopped when the PKE meter spiked again, giving the same readings as last time.
"Oh ho ho ho, I think we hit the X," She said, bending down towards the spot, "Im reading over 1235 on the PKE…"
Bridget walked over to the spot, pointing the Gygometer at it.
"Same readings, just like from the lab." She said, turning to the chief.
"Well, what does that mean?" Rusa asked, crossing her arms.
The two teenage girls looked at each other for a minute, pondering the question.
"Do you think it's down there?"
"Possibly, I don't know."
"I think we'll need a construction worker team to figure that part out." Walter said.
"Huh?" The two teen girls questioned.
"How fast can you get one down here?" Walter asked the chief.
"Three hours at the earliest, " She replied, "That's if the juvenile watcher prick doesn't try anything stupid to interrupt the investigation."
Later that day, Signal Academy
Ruby Rose, fearless leader of gen 1 team RWBY, now a fairly respected school teacher. She was reading up about the recent event that happened.
"God, first the school gets attacked by Salem, now this," Ruby asked to the thin air, "When will this end?"
She leaned back in her chair, now facing a familiar person to the newer team RWBY, Rigby Applecroft. She had changed since last the Ghostbusters, or anyone other than her father had seen her. She wore a burgundy leather jacket, a black skirt, and her hair was in a bun.
"Can I help you?" Ruby asked.
"Not really, just wanted to see someone I guess," Rigby replied, stroking the back of her neck, " It's just been so crazy all of a sudden."
"I know right?"
"I just can't imagine what the gang is going through after that incident at Beacon." Rigby said, sitting on one of the desks.
"Considering the fact they faced a hundred foot marshmallow and a crazed egomaniac alien, I doubt they're feeling horrible."
"Weren't you there with them?"
"Yes… but that's not the point," Ruby said, getting up from her desk,"my point is that they've been through worse than this."
Ruby walked over next to Rigby, placing her arm around her shoulder.
"Although that's not to say what my daughter and her date went through yesterday wasn't horrible," She added, "what I'm saying is that they've toughed out worse scenarios."
"You're right, what am I worried about?" Rigby said.
The two laughed with a slight relief.
"So, is your father getting anywhere with the new bar?" Ruby asked, patting Rigby's shoulder.
"Barely," She replied, looking down, "I mean, after the bar in Anima got haunted about a year ago, barely anybody thought about buying it, the only ones who did looked super sketchy."
"Who were they?"
"I don't know," She replied, "all I remember from the exchange was that my father and I would be able to live here in the city."
Ruby looked at the teen for a minute, her eyes showing concern.
"What did they look like?"
"They had these black suits, and one of them had a tattoo on his left hand," Rigby replied back, turning towards the door, "It's probably nothing, but I just wanna be cautious…
Ruby pondered the thought for a minute. "Something about this doesn't add up." She thought. As Rigby was about to leave, she motioned for her to stop.
"Wait…"
Rigby turned to the teacher, her face showing confusion.
"What?"
"Was there anything else out of the ordinary when these men in suits came to the bar?"
Rigby's eyes widened a bit, she remembered a small detail that her dad overlooked.
"The one with the tattoo had a weird book in his right hand."
Ruby looked at the girl with concern.
"What did this Tattoo look like?"
"I don't know, but it kinda looked like three triangles pointed at each other, with some strange markings on them," She said, "It was on the cover of the book too."
Ruby thought about the image for a bit. Somehow, it seemed familiar. Ruby looked at her desk for a minute before remembering the papers on her subject and the textbook she was given. She walked over and picked up her teacher's textbook and brought it back to Rigby.
"You mean like this?" She asked, pointing to the symbol on the book.
Rigby looked at the symbol Ruby was pointing to, her eyes widened at the sight of it.
"Yes, that's it exactly!" She exclaimed.
Ruby looked back at the symbol, wondering about its meaning.
"What the hell does this symbol mean?"
4th Avenue and Hazelnut drive, 8:52 pm
The demolition crew dug in the street where the four teens said, concerned but determined to help out,(Mainly because they were the only people who saw the Ghostbusters as heroes).
"Hey, we cut through about a couple feet, we can get the line ready in a few minutes." The supervisor said, adjusting his pants.
Walter looked at the hole the construction men dug, it wasn't very wide, and was only big enough to just barely fit just one of the Ghostbusters.
"You think that's wide enough?" He asked.
"Kid, considering the paranormal is your jurisdiction, we ain't touching your line of work."
Roxxy and Bridget walked back with Rusa with coffee and donuts. They looked at the white haired boy and the supervisor.
"So, anything?" Bridget asked.
"Other than a thin hole and a lot of darkness, not much."
Roxxy looked around the area, she didn't see Yale or Neptune anywhere.
"Where's Yale and Neptune?" She asked.
"Yale had to go back to the apartment and Neptune got called in."
Rusa looked at the white haired Atlesian with a smirk.
"Shame, and I just got back with his favorite latte." She said, handing over a cup to the boy.
Bridget placed down her coffee and pulled out the Gygometer. The readings were a little stronger than when the ground was solid.
"Definitely getting a stronger reading from this," She said, "Though I can't say for sure how dangerous it is unless we were down there. "
"Meaning someone has to go down and take a sample," Walter replied, " Not it!"
"Not it!"
"Don't even look at me!"
The other three looked at the silver eyed girl, worry starting to occupy her face.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me!"
10 minutes later
Roxxy looked around the thin space surrounding her as she descended down the hole.
"You see anything down there?" Rusa asked the silver eyed girl.
"Other than complete darkness and damp rocks, not much."
Walter looked at the other two girls, imposing concerns about the use of his girlfriend in the sewers.
"Neither one of you two wanted to look down there?"
"Nope," the cat girl said, checking the device in her hand, "I'm not risking a look, not after the last time I got curious and thought about something."
"You mean after Cinder?"
"Yep."
"The hell are you two talking about?" Rusa piped.
"Let's just say, curiosity nearly killed the cat and the city." Walter replied.
"Yeah, lesson learned after that whole debacle," Bridget added.
"Can you guys focus?" Roxxy asked through the walkie.
"Sorry."
Under the street
Roxxy looked down towards a dim light, curiosity flowing through her mind.
"The hell is that?" She said, "Hey guys, I think I see something!"
"What is it?"
"Some sort of light," She said, as she descended more towards the light, "I think it's a chamber of some sort!"
"A chamber?" Walter questioned.
"What the hell is something like that doing under the city?" Bridget asked.
Unknown chamber
As Roxxy descended further, she saw the room below more clearly.
"What in the hell is this place?" She asked, looking at the chamber before her.
When she finally had some footing, she adjusted herself so she could move around.
Topside
"Hey, what do you see down there?" Walter asked.
Unknown Chamber
Roxxy looked around the now fully visible chamber, she saw several clear pipes and vats of the dark green slime. She also saw a small circle of chairs and a table, along with a book and a marking on the table.
"I don't know," Roxxy replied, walking towards the table, "But it doesn't look normal, I'll tell you that!"
"Is there anything that's out of the ordinary in there?" Bridget asked.
"Yeah, a small gathering circle and a book," She replied back, "Both the table and the book have the same marking!"
Topside
"What does it-" was all Rusa could get out before a black sedan and a police cruiser pulled up to the team.
"Ey, what's the meaning of all this?" The lead construction worker asked.
The figure got out and walked towards the three, all of them recognizing him.
"Oh mother fuc-" was all Rusa could say before again being interrupted.
"Chief Rusa Mango, Walter Schnee, Bridget Belladonna, you're coming with us." Carmal said.
"Oh you have got to be fucking with me."
Unknown Chamber
Roxxy grabbed the book and tugged the cable, but no response. She kept tugging until she heard something in the room.
"Um guys?"
Topside
"What the hell is the meaning of all this?" Rusa exclaimed.
"You were warned chief, and now here's the consequences of your actions." Carmal replied.
"Oh this is ridiculous, I'm the goddamn chief of police and I have the right to put out an investigation on something that doesn't sit right to both me, and this goddamn city!"
"With government permission, which had been revoked just before you decided to dig a hole under Hazelnut Drive."
Walter looked at Carmal with an angered stare.
"You asshole…"
"I'm sorry kid?"
"You can't do that without giving the chief a notice or heads up," he replied back with a snap, "I may not have been born and raised here dickless, but I know the law and what you did was by definition, Illegal!"
Carmal looked at the white haired boy and laughed.
"Why do you think you haven't seen Detective Vasilias?"
The three looked at the councilman with a shocked look. They couldn't believe what they were hearing.
Unknown chamber
"Uh, Guys!"
Roxxy looked around the room, the noises getting louder.
"Guys, I think something's down here!"
Roxxy continued tugging the cable until she felt something touch her leg. Roxxy screamed and jumped from the sudden touch of whatever unknown thing was down there with her.
"GUYS GET ME THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!!"
Topside
The lot heard the silver eyed girl and remembered she was still down there.
"SHIT!" Rusa screamed.
"Start it Brig!" Walter shouted at the faunus.
Bridget ran over and activated the cable winch. The cable retracted back up.
Under the street
Roxxy held onto the cable and book with all her strength. The cable withdrew and brought the girl back to the surface.
Topside
Roxxy grabbed onto the edge and pulled herself up and out of the hole. She turned to face the three with a scowl.
"What the hell took you guys so lon-.?!"
Walter interrupted her and pointed towards the reason. Roxxy turned to see the smug expression of Gorman Carmal.
"You have got to be shitting me."
(Sorry this chapter took so long, was busy with so much stuff I lost track of time and completely blanked on this chapter as a whole. I hope to get at least one more before my birthday. As always, thank you for reading.)
