Sainan High had a clear hierarchy in the mind of one girl. After a short break from school, one Saki Tenjouin was eager to assert her dominance over the school. She was quite proud of being the number 1 most popular girl for her good looks and class.

As a girl of high birth, she had always assumed she was the top of the food chain, an otherworldly existence who only was there to be admired by the lowly peasants.

However, one existence was putting a wrench in her plans, a small wrinkle in her clothes in another manner of speaking.

"Aya, who is that commoner girl and why is her appearance taking all of the attention from my high class self?" Saki asked her friend and subordinate, Aya Fujisaki.

"Saki-sama," Aya addressed her master, "Her name is Lala Satalin Deviluke. She's only been a student at Sainan High for less than 3 months, but she's already climbed the social hierarchy." Aya looked up from her report. "Of course, she's nothing compared to you, Saki-sama!"

Saki flipped her hair. "Of course she isn't! That's but only a given. However, I'll need to put that wench in her place. Is there a reason for her popularity?"

Aya adjusted her glasses. "I believe it's because of her sex appeal. Although there are a lot of different factors like Risa Momioka showing off her friend's assets frequently."

Saki's other friend and subordinate, Rin Kujou spoke up. "Ah, sorry to interrupt Saki-sama, however, I believe I have the answer to her popularity."

"Ohohoho," Saki laughed. Rin seemed more eager than usual for some reason. "And what is it, my dear friend, Rin?"

"I believe it must be because of a boy she's close with. From what I've heard, she's been given an entry into the social groups thanks to this person, so perhaps he has done more to help her gain popularity."

"And what is the name of this boy?" Saki's interest was piqued.

"Rito Yuuki, Saki-sama." Rin said, showing a photo which had been prepared. Giving it to her master, Rin could tell from her expression an idea was brewing. "And what do you intend to do, Saki-sama?"

Saki threw the paper down (to which Aya caught) and said, "What else? If he is the reason for her popularity, surely once I show him how great I am, he'll rightfully place me back at the top of the school hierarchy!"

It was a perfectly average day for Rito Yuuki, well, as average a day he could have at any rate. The daily woes of being the fiance of the princess to the galaxy were many, but Rito wasn't one to complain. He had gained some friends of course with being introduced to aliens and had, of course, gained a beautiful fiance by the name of Lala.

Situations like the one he was in, he didn't know what to make of. At the start of lunch, he had been called out by a classmate and immediately after leaving the classroom, he had been ambushed by a beautiful girl.

So, now Rito sat, tied up in the home economics club. "I really do need to take some swordsmanship lessons," Rito said. He hasn't yet had the chance to ask Zastin for some lessons, but considering how easy it was to get the jump on him, he should probably call Zastin over this weekend to get a jump on it.

"Ah, the peasant has awakened!" a voice called out. As the room was dark, Rito couldn't make out who said it.

"And who are you?" Rito asked. He relaxed as he recognized the culprit to be a student. If it was another suitor, Rito would've had more cause for worry.

"Ara, This lowly one wants to know of my great name? Dear Rin, turn on the lights for me."

Her command was met with an "Yes, m'lady," from her servant and then the lights came on to review a blonde girl Rito was unfamiliar with.

"Ohoho, I can see you're stunned by my beauty. I'll grace you with my name. Tis I, the heiress to the Tenjouin group, Saki Tenjouin." The blonde girl had her entourage clapping for her as if she had a grand audience.

"Uh, nice to meet you. Is there a reason I'm tied up?" Rito asked. He kept his words neat and polite to hopefully appease the haughty girl. "Hopefully whatever you need me for is quick. There's only so long until lunchtime is over."

"Ohoho, why, but of course," Saki said with a smirk on her face. "It has come to my attention that this Lala Deviluke has taken my rightful place as queen of the school, so I want you to put me back on top."

"Eh?" Rito questioned, "I'm not sure when Lala was given a title like that."

Saki turned to Aya. "Ehem," Aya cleared her throat, "Lala Deviluke's popularity has grown more than our missus' from my investigations."

Rito balked at accepting that information. 'Has she really done all that much to gain such a following?'

A knock on the door startled all of them. "Hello? I got a piece of paper that said Rito would be here?" Lala said, walking into the room.

'What is she doing by luring Lala here? Could it be something dangerous?' Rito thought.

"Ahaha, our other guest has finally arrived," Saki said. "Yes, Rito Yuuki is here as the prize and judge of a certain competition we shall have, Lala Deviluke."

Lala's curiosity was piqued. "Competition, what kind?" She was initially worried if something bad was going to happen to Rito, but nothing seemed dangerous.

"Why, one that will show a certain aspect of the most beautiful girl in the school! A cooking contest!" Saki said, proudly while her friends showed off the ingredients prepared.

Rito wasn't sure if he followed the logic but regardless he had a few worries. 'I'm not sure if I trust either one to cook exceptionally well. As much as I hate to admit it, I've never seen Lala cook before and she's royalty. For Saki, she doesn't look like the type as well. She seems a little full of herself even if she isn't outright malicious.'

Lala was impressed by the array of ingredients. "Woooah. You sure gathered a lot. What're the rules?" She was bouncing along, excited for something as interesting as a contest.

Saki beamed at the praise. "Ah, we have until the end of the lunch period to be able to prepare a dish for Rito-kun to eat. Whichever dish Rito-kun likes the most is the winner and wins Rito as a subordinate!"

'I guess I don't get a say in the matter?' Rito deadpanned in his thoughts.

"I don't really want Rito as my subordinate, but sure!" Lala nodded, agreeing to the rules. "When do we start?"

Saki's eyes shifted to Rin. "Count us off please."

Rin nodded. "3, 2, 1, Begin!"

Lala and Saki raced to the ingredients table, picking out what they wanted with what seemed to be confidence.

Rito was resigned to his fate and just hoped not to die of food poisoning. As the time passed, he heard a certain amount of proficiency with cutting only to look up and see Saki looking like she's been in a kitchen before with how she's handling her knife.

Rito looked over at his fiance to check on her progress. Even Lala didn't look completely lost. She appeared to be preparing some sort of pork, cutting off the excess fat.

'Am I actually not in any danger here?' Rito cheered in his mind. As more time passed, he was actually looking forward to taste testing.

Rin looked up at the clock. "Time is up, please present your meals." Lunchtime was wrapping up, so there needed to be time set aside for Rito to eat.

Saki puffed herself up. "I shall present mine first!" Saki showed her dish, sashimi which had a variety of seafood lined up. "Please taste the pufferfish. I'm especially proud of that."

Rito's eyes almost bulged out at hearing that was in his meal. That was certainly an ingredient expected of a luxurious girl, although it was unexpected that she could properly prepare it. 'Don't people usually need to get a license to serve that to others?' Rito questioned.

As he ate into each piece, he couldn't help but nod his head. "It's good, very good! Each piece is seasoned very well and cut neatly so it's easy to eat." Rito said, praising Saki. Rito was surprised by the simplicity of the meal compared to how glamorous its cook was, but the food's taste spoke for it. "The presentation and the taste are both excellent."

"Ohohoho, as expected of my brilliance!" Saki said, flipped her hair out forward. While Rito would usually write this off as arrogance, upon tasting a dish like this, could it be that she's actually the type to work hard?

"Although," Rito started, bringing some eyes to him, "The feeling behind the cooking is a little empty. The ingredients are used well and so the end product tastes good, but I don't know if I'm completely satisfied after eating this."

The critique shocked Saki. "Mmm, I see what you mean, Rito," Lala said, having taken some for herself to eat.

"Hey, that's not for you," Saki said, trying to grab it out of her hand.

Lala ran away saying, "Don't worry, Saki-chan. You still did a great job!" She ran away to get her dish to pass out. "Now it's my turn, Rito!" Lala said. She presented her own meal. Seemingly an even simpler meal in the form of Tonkatsu (or Japanese Pork Cutlet).

It wasn't a picture perfect meal, but from the looks of it, it was a meal made with heart and Rito was eager to eat it. He had caught Lala spending some more time with Mikan. Could it have been his little sister who had taught her how to cook?

Regardless, Rito was eager to eat. He took one bite out of the pork and smiled. After taking one bite, Rito wanted to finish it all. 'She was able to put that extra oomph into the taste, the feeling,' Rito thought as he chewed.

Rito looked up from his food. "The taste could use some work, likely it was cooked a little longer than it should've. The presentation was a little messy and could've been cleaned up some, however, this meal succeeds where the other lacks. Lala, you put your heart and soul into it and your dish wins my stomach because of this."

"What? Is this true?" Saki asked, taking some of Lala's dish to try it out herself. To her surprise, Rito was right. "This taste, it's definitely inferior to my private chefs, but it creates a warmness that can't be easily replicated. This is what I lacked?"

"Yay, it looks like I won, Saki-chan!" Lala cheered. "I don't know exactly what I did to win, but I'm sure Rito has an idea."

Rito coughed. He did indeed have an idea, but it was too embarrassing for him to say out loud. 'Lala's love could really be tasted in the meat,' Rito thought.

Saki turned her head, "It's of no consequence. I'll concede this match to you, Lala, but be ready for another match that I will for certain win with my superior self!"

"Of course! This was so much fun, Saki-chan!" Lala said. Lala's mood was even more bubbly than usual because of Rito's deep praise for her food.

"Hmph, until next time, Ohohoho," Saki laughed in mock confidence, leaving with her two subordinates.

As they closed the door behind them, Rito couldn't help but ask, "So, who's going to clean up the home economics room?" The apparent answer, Rito didn't like.

That next time was quicker than Rito had thought. For some reason, the teacher had decided to have a free period today and so did every class for the 1st and 2nd years. They were called to the school courtyard where a large stage was stationed.

Spotlights were turned on, dynamically lighting up the stage as a figure emerged from the stage. "Ohoho, I hope you all enjoy the sight of the beautiful me! I am the queen of Sainan High!" Saki said, showing off a great deal of skin with her dress.

On the top of the stage was a sign titling this a beauty contest. Rito sighed. 'Did she really do all of this to challenge Lala again?'

The male crowd roared with cheers as they approved of Saki's dress. Saki preened at the cheers.

"Oh, it's a beauty contest? Then count me in!" another voice called out. Run ran onto stage with the signature Sainan High yellow sweater and a shortened skirt as she struck a pose. 'I'll show off my charm to appeal to Rito,' Run planned. As she posed, she said, "I hope everyone cheers for me too!"

The male crowd cheered arguably louder for Run thanks to her cute demeanor.

A series of girls were brought onto the stage either by their own will or by their friends urging them on. One such girl was Haruna, who Risa brought on. Risa brought some cheers of her own as she had a reputation of being one of the flirtatious girls of the 1st years.

"Uh, Risa, can I please leave?" Haruna said, covering herself with a big blush on her face. She gathered a group of fans who cheered for her to her surprise.

Lala had stumbled onto the stage as well. "You wanted to have another match?" she asked Saki who was currently stunned by the competition.

Breaking out of her shock, she shook her head, saying, "Why yes. And judging by the cheers, I've had a lot more than you!" she said, smirking.

"Well, I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to be competing this time," Lala said, unaware of the figure behind her.

"Hello Lala-chi. Didn't know you wanted to be a part of the beauty contest as well!" Risa said, grasping Lala's breasts, directing a lot of eyes to them.

A loud cheer from the crowd surged at this sight, a cheer that Saki recognized to be larger than hers. She had lost?

"Hmph, it can't be! I am still the queen!" Saki said, striking an indecent pose only to be ignored.

"A-all of this is shameless!" Yui Kotegawa said, moving onto the stage to shut this contest down. She brought her own cheers surprisingly, but that only made the girl in question more embarrassed and therefore, more angry. "As a member of the disciplinary club, I'm shutting this down!"

Saki looked at the male crowd as her contest was being shut down. She could easily sway someone to prevent that disciplinary club member from leaving the contest alone, but what would be the point? She had lost.

Dejected, she walked away, not even changing out of her clothes. She called for her limousine to go home and rest from this terrible day she's had.

"Miss, is everything ok?" Aya asked. She'd never seen her master quite so sad. Rin too was worried for her, but offered only her supportive presence.

"I'm alright. I am the great Saki Tenjouin after all! I just need… a little rest, yes! That's it!" Her limo arrived quickly, as expected of her servants. She was about to get in when she spotted a familiar face.

"I wonder where Rito-dono is," Zastin mumbled as he entered the gates of Sainan High. He had a message from his father he was supposed to deliver, but how was he supposed to pick Rito out from this school?

"I-it's you, sir knight!" Saki called out, recognizing Zastin.

"Uh, excuse me miss? Have we met before?" Zastin asked. He wasn't used to being called a knight on Earth. Usually he got called something called a cosplayer.

"Oh, yes!" Saki said, excited by Zastin's presence. "You saved me and my friend the other day. I, Saki Tenjouin, thank you for that."

Zastin thought about her words before remembering the instance. "Oh, from that time. Well, it was only expected of a knight of my caliber," Zastin puffed out his chest, proud of his station. Although he wasn't dressed in his armor now, having been forced to change into normal clothes by his boss, Saibai Yuuki, Zastin always held the identity of a knight near and dear to him.

Zastin realized something. "Oh, since you happen to be a student of this school. Do you happen to know Rito-dono?"

Saki almost did a spit take at the question. 'Did Zastin-sama know Rito Yuuki?' she thought to herself. "Rito-dono? Could that be referring to Rito Yuuki?" she asked.

Zastin smiled, "Why yes! He's my bosses' son. His father has a message for him that I need to deliver right away!"

'To know someone of Zastin-sama's caliber, have I made a mistake in thinking Rito as someone lowly? Should I try to show him my greatness to get closer to Zastin-sama?' she plotted. Saki looked around, recognizing where Rito had been in the crowd. She spotted him and Lala talking to their friends, some of which were on stage earlier. "I believe they're over there, Zastin-sama!"

Zastin followed the direction of her arm, catching sight of them. "Thank you, miss. Your help was invaluable!"

As Zastin left, Saki looked to her earlier destination, her limo. Thinking differently, she said to her driver, "It seems I won't need you til later. Go on for now." Her friends exited the vehicle accompanying her back towards the school.

"I'm glad your mood is better, Saki-sama. Aya and I much prefer you with a smile," Rin said.

"Ohoho, but of course! I prefer myself to be smiling! And now I have a plan on how to continue doing so!"

"Man, I can't believe dad needs even more help with his manga. I thought having Zastin as an assistant would've made it so he doesn't need my help," Rito grumbled.

Lala smiled. "I always love watching you work and being able to see Rito-papa is also a plus," Lala giggled. "Although, was there a reason you asked Zastin for swordsman lessons? Are you interested in the sword?"

Rito laughed. "Not exactly. I just wanted to get a little stronger. Sometimes, I feel a little overshadowed, y'know."

"I think you're strong enough, Rito," Lala said. "Anyway, today was a lot of fun, wasn't it?"

"It was certainly a more eventful day," Rito agreed.

"Excuse me," a voice interrupted them from behind. They were surprised to find that it was Saki. The voice they heard was respectful unlike hers.

"Uh, yes? Do you need something?" Rito asked.

Saki coughed, "I just wanted to say, you've won the matches for now, Lala Deviluke! It seems even a being like myself can be found lacking, but I will endeavor to show myself as the queen of the school!"

Lala looked troubled by the challenge due to not really understanding what it's about. Rito spoke up first. "Uh, I don't think you're really lacking per se. Also, I think I can speak for Lala when I say that she doesn't care about being the queen of the school. You can keep that title."

"Ah, but that's decided by the school, not myself. I can't just-"

"Yeah, why don't you be the queen?" Lala said. "I'm sure with you around, school will be as much fun as today was!"

Saki looked at both Rito and Lala, a little overwhelmed by their interruption. "W-well, if you insist, I can only respond with that I will. S-so, be sure to respond to this queen's orders tomorrow!" she said, stumbling off with her friends in tow.

"Saki-chan is a good girl, isn't she?" Lala asked Rito.

"She's a little difficult, but yes," Rito said, chuckling. She was certainly not expecting a response like that from Lala.

As Saki stumbled away into her limo, her thoughts were a mess, but two things stuck out. 1. That she was still the queen of Sainan high, thanks to Lala giving up that role for her and even praising her. 2. Rito Yuuki and Lala Deviluke were surprisingly nice, for being peasants that is! Rito Yuuki in particular looked to be a particularly nice guy.

'Well- anyway! I hope getting closer to a peasant like him or Lala Deviluke will allow me to talk to Zastin-sama again!' Saki thought.
