I have reasons to believe Alice's pregnant.
Reasons to believe Alice's pregnant.
Believe Alice's pregnant.
Alice's pregnant.
Alice.
Is.
Pregnant.
Even if Alice had let Carlisle bring her to that room he had made into his own little hospital wing for Renesmee, even if she could feel Jasper at her side, her mind was completely somewhere else.
Pregnant.
It wasn't as if she weren't happy over the idea of bringing a child into the world, much less when said child was her's and Jasper's .
But a child wasn't a little matter.
A lot of responsibilities came with a child.
Responsibilities she wasn't quite sure she could meet, she was barely a good aunt, how was she suppose to be a mother at all?
She heard Carlisle suck in a sharp breath, successfully snapping her out of her thoughts, she glanced at him, the ultrasound machine did work on her, well, that was one less thing to worry about at least.
-What's wrong?- She found herself asking, anxious over what could have Carlisle looking so shocked.
-You are pregnant.
~
Jasper had no idea how to feel with this whole situation.
On one side he did like the idea of a child between him and Alice.
But on the other hand the sole idea of it terrified him to no end, how was he even suppose to be a father when he was a lot of things but a stable person? He didn't even knew how to be an uncle, how was he suppose to be a father? He wasn't good with children, they always cried when they saw him, always running away in fear, and he generally felt uncomfortable around them, their emotions were too strong, overwhelming.
How would he be able to be a good or even present father when he wouldn't be able to stand being around them at all?
Carlisle's confirmation did nothing but send him into another void of panic and confusion. Alice's anxiety and fear did nothing but feed his own distress.
The happiness that explode somewhere in the house made him flinch, excitement, surprise, sadness, anger, jealousy.
He felt nauseous.
Alice's hand squeezed his and he felt himself crawl a bit back on the surface, Alice, she needed him, he couldn't just let himself be swarmed by panic, she needed him now, he had no time to be afraid.
He quickly soothed her anxieties, stroking her cheek affectionately with his free hand, she had nothing to be afraid of, he was right here and he wasn't going anywhere.
-Are…are you sure?- Are the first words she speaks, looking at Carlisle, her voice barely above a whisper.- How could this even happen?
That question doesn't seem to be directed at anyone in particular.
-For what I gathered from Eleazar's copies, feeding habits are the deciding factor, balancing blood and venom levels before conception is very important, feeding regularly for a good two weeks before conception strengthens the chances of pregnancy. But you said so yourself before, you were together for two years before coming to us, so what changed?
If Carlisle used the notes details of a black bloods' gestation period being similar to a human's… Alice would be, roughly, around five to six weeks.
And if he did the math right…
-What changed in your feeding habits when you were gone looking for Nahuel?- He questioned, he wasn't quite prepared for the collective flinch, both of them suddenly finding anything else in the room a thousand times more interesting than it was a second ago, shame and guilt clear as day on their faces.
He narrowed his eyes.
-Is there something I should know?- He questioned.
Silence.
And then.
-No one died.- Came Jasper's defense, barely above a whisper.
No one died? What was that suppose to mean?
Wait.
Guilt.
Shame.
Feeding habits.
Black bloods.
-You fed off humans? For two weeks?- Carlisle didn't mean for his voice to come out as harsh as it did, Jasper straightened up, alarm quickly overtaking his eyes.
-No, it was just once, there weren't any animals 'round, and then they were there… if you wanna blame someone, blame me, Alice didn't wanna do it. But she really needed to feed, and like I said, no one died, nor will they ever remember what happened at all.
-It was a lapse of judgement, it won't happen again.- Alice assured firmly, she was nervous, what she and Jasper had done that day… it wasn't something to be proud of, she knew it had been a bad idea, even if no one died it had still gone against everything she believed in.
But God she had felt so weak, and they really needed to keep going.
Meanwhile, Carlisle tried to reign his emotions back in, he shouldn't be mad, as Jasper said, no one died, no one would remember, those were the two main reasons for them to live off a vegetarian diet, because every life was precious , no human deserved to die.
No one died.
But that lapse of judgement had put them in a tighter spot, a child, the Volturi wouldn't like that, and if those notes had been something to go for… a lot of trouble could come from this.
-Alice, you do know how dangerous this situation is, right?
-I know.- Alice states, glancing at Jasper, the situation might be… unexpected, and frankly a bit frightening, but it didn't negate certain unignorable truths.
This child, while unplanned, was conceived with love. Whether Jasper wanted a child or not, Alice knew he would love any child of theirs.
She felt the warmness of his love envelope her, his hand squeezing hers as he glanced at her stomach before giving her a questioning look.
"Do you want this?"
She could read the question in his eyes, and as she gave him a short nod he smiled.
-We'll keep it.- Jasper told as a statement of fact, giving Carlisle an unyielding look.- Aro can't do anythin', not really, humans aren't at risk of findin' out, nor do we kill poisonous vampires, and as far as he knows, there are no risks of her fallin' pregnant, which means if he doesn't want to ruin their reputation more than he's already done by bringin' an army 'cause of Renesmee who turned out to not be an immortal child… his hands are tied.
He did had a point, but Carlisle still didn't felt at ease over it.
He just hoped Jasper was right, for everybody's sake, he did had to admit that the idea of another child running around sounded pleasant, God knows Renesmee was a wonderful joy to have around, but this baby was nothing like Renesmee.
Carlisle worried about a lot of things, one of them being the fact that if what he had read was right, Alice would need to start feeding off of human blood, not animal, she was already showing signs of the pregnancy not going well, if her diet wasn't fixed she might lose the baby.
One good thing about this though, it was that this time around, unlike with Bella, they would know what to expect.
No one would be worried sick running against time to find the slightest bit of information about what to expect at all.
~
Esme was more than thrilled to hear the news.
Another baby was coming!
Alice's and Jasper's.
It actually explained her behavior from lately, the vomiting, the mood swings, she was pregnant.
It was a bit unnerving to think what the Volturi might do if it was discovered though.
But Jasper had a point, the Volturi couldn't really do anything, there weren't any broken laws, at the end of the day, neither Jasper or Alice were a threat towards their secret nor vampires.
The Volturi couldn't touch them.
Not without losing their reputation in the process, which it didn't took a genius to know the Volturi would never risk.
It gave Esme the shivers to remember their near fight with the Volturi not even three weeks ago. She had already been expecting, she had been so close to Aro, God what if the fight had happened?
Esme almost felt faint with the thought.
But God, a child! Another beautiful baby to dote on, she couldn't wait to see who would the little one take after, Renesmee was the perfect mix between Edward and Bella, but she was undoubtedly much more like Bella, she loved to read and she held no fear whatsoever over trying new things.
She was also quite resilient and unlike her father she had no problem opening up about her feelings and how things made her feel.
A child between Jasper and Alice…
That was an interesting mix, Alice was energetic and the definition of an extroverted person who held no shame over broadcasting her thoughts and emotions to the world.
Jasper on the other hand was quiet and almost the perfect definition of an introverted person who had the habit the shut people out whenever he was upset, and for an empath, he kept his emotions on quite the tight leash.
But both of them held a heart of gold, such selflessness when it came to protecting those they cared about, such loyalty, and the love between those two was something that up to this day made her look away, their bond was so intense, like nothing she has ever seen.
And part of her wonders if them both being black bloods and learning to rely on no one but each other had contributed to that.
She knows their child will be a little angel.
~
Edward… had no idea how to feel.
On one side he was happy.
But on the other hand… what if Alice went through the same Bella had gone through? Something similar? Edward didn't think he would be able to bear the sight of his sister looking so close to death.
And she was a vampire.
If her pregnancy was anything like Bella's she wouldn't be able to be brought back through a bite. Was Jasper aware of the danger this might pose to Alice? How could he be so calm?
And what about the Volturi? Aro wouldn't like it if he were to find out about this. What if he decided to use as an excuse their lies to attack? What if they took Alice? Jasper?
It made Edward feel sick the sole idea of what the Volturi might do to them for the single fact of them being black bloods.
And what about the baby? Would the Volturi kill it? Keep it? Bring on its death as they did in the past with the other black blood babies?
Edward shuddered over those thoughts.
~
Bella was ecstatic about the news.
A baby from Alice and Jasper, that sounded like the most beautiful baby in history, and powerful too considering its parents' gifts.
Renesmee could finally have another child to play with, God knows she needed some friends her own age, or well, at least friends that weren't older than her.
Bella had entertained the idea of putting her in school, but Renesmee grew way too fast, and everyone would see that something wasn't quite right about her.
It's not even been a year since she was born and she already looked like a 12 year old.
She wondered if black blood babies grew as fast as hybrids, faster, slower?
Would the Volturi come for the baby same as they had done with Renesmee? The sole idea of it made Bella shudder.
God, if she gave it thought, Alice had already been pregnant when she came back to face the Volturi.
What if the fight had broke out? What if Aro had noticed? Would she have died? Lost the baby?
It made Bella nauseous to even think about that.
~
Emmett was thrilled with the idea of another nephew/niece, though if he was being honest he was rooting for it to be a boy, he loved Renesmee, don't get him wrong, but he would kill for a nephew too.
And considering who the father was… man was that kid gonna be a badass.
Emmett couldn't wait to see the little demon.
Who the hell cared about the Volturi? They could always move away to a very far away place where the creepy weirdos wouldn't find them.
He did admit it was a bit odd to imagine Alice and Jasper as parents, those two barely knew how to interact with Renesmee normally, but to be fair, Emmett never saw Edward as parent material either.
And look at him, living the dad life in a cottage in the middle of the forest.
Part of Emmett did admit he felt a bit jealous, man would he die for a kid too, a little team mate to wrestle with or play videogames with, be it girl or boy Emmett would teach them the joys of videogames.
No child of his would ever not like videogames.
That would be preposterous.
At times, he found himself imagining a little girl with Rosalie's blonde hair, a little girl he could throw in the air and hear giggle, to see her matching scowls with Rosalie…
Or a little boy, with Rosalie's blonde hair but also his own curls, a little boy he could carry on his shoulders and chase around, to see his matching glares with Rosalie…
But that would never be possible.
So all he could do was cherish his siblings' children and aim to be the best uncle humankind had ever seen.
~
Rosalie…
Rosalie felt pissed.
She was furious over the sole idea of this situation happening again, this time around it was Alice, Alice was pregnant.
Pregnant.
And Rosalie wanted nothing more but to scream and break something.
Don't get her wrong, past the anger she did felt happy, but all she could focus on now was on the fact that women who had never even given thought to wanting a child were having one while she who had been craving for a child since she had use of reason couldn't.
It wasn't fair, why couldn't she have a baby too?
She wanted a child too, a girl, a boy, she could care less, a little angel running around with Emmett's dark curls. That's all she wanted, was it too much to ask?
But she could never have one.
All she could do was sit and watch as her siblings lived the dream she had been having since before any of them realized it was also something they wanted.
And it filled her with such sour emotions.
She did love the idea of another child running around, she just wished it was hers.
A little angel of her own.
And not for the first time she wondered if there was some kind of method for female vampires to have children.
~
-You do realize it's not far along enough to be heard, right?- Alice can't help but say, she was laying on the bed in her and Jasper's room, Carlisle said she should rest for the time being, he would get human blood from the hospital tomorrow, in the meantime, she should stay on bed rest.
He had made her and Jasper read the copies Eleazar had sent, though he had refused to let them read the ones about the babies.
Which she kind of understood, the ones about the pregnancy had been gruesome enough, she didn't want to know what the Volturi might have done to those poor babies.
Still.
Back to the point at hand.
Jasper's been laying his head on her bare stomach for the past hour, his arm drapped over her waist, he seemed completely infatuated by the idea of there being a baby inside her, their baby.
She found it adorable if she was being honest, after his initial panic and anxiety he seemed to have become completely and absolutely enamored with the idea of them having a baby, even more so after getting confirmation that Alice's life wouldn't be in danger as Bella's had been.
Alice could have never expected him to be so on board with this.
She had expected him more to fall into a monologue on how he wasn't fit to be a parent because of his past wrongdoings.
But he hadn't.
Which led her to believe he was at least aware that his past wouldn't define what kind of parent he might turn out to be, their child would never fear him, never judge him, because Jasper was a kind and gentle soul whose past didn't define who he was.
Alice would make sure their child understood that fact. She refused to allow a child of hers and Jasper to doubt for one second their father's good heart.
She found herself carding her fingers through Jasper's hair, as she did, she couldn't help but hope that the baby would have his hair, Jasper's hair color was beautiful compared to hers.
His was such an intense shade of honey, it looked as if someone had carved each thread out of pure gold whenever the sun shone upon it, and he had those soft waves, waves that could become such endearing curls if she cut his hair short enough.
Hers… well, her hair wasn't that special, it was almost boring, just black and straight, she would rather have a baby with golden curls, a little boy with golden curls, her own little Jasper.
Speaking of which, she would need to cut her hair soon, it was starting to grow out, she knew she didn't need to keep on cutting it now that the Cullens knew, but she liked it short, it felt more… familiar, her .
Meanwhile, Jasper ignored Alice's words, he didn't care if he couldn't feel or hear anything yet, the sole idea of there being a baby inside his wife was an exhilarating thought, their baby, he was terrified of course, he didn't knew a thing about being a parent, his past was filled with demons and his skin was more than proof of how much of a monster he had been.
He was also nervous about the idea of how his own child might react at the sight of him, if it would fear him, hate him, be disgusted about the monster it had for a father…
But he was also adamant about making things right, he wanted to be good, to be worth of being this little angel's father, this little life he had helped create… it made him feel like that darkness inside him might actually have a chance at being purified, a baby was an innocent little thing, a little soul who might either grow to despise him or love him unconditionally, there was no in between.
To think someone like him would ever be able to create something so precious…
It gave him such a warm feeling, one he hadn't felt since he met Alice.
Hope.
~
-Are you sure about this?- Rosalie questions, Carlisle had let them read Eleazar's copies aside from the ones about the babies.
While for the looks of it Alice's life wouldn't be at risk there was also the fact that a lot of things could go wrong.
This spoke about seriously dangerous mood swings, and all Rosalie could think about was Alice's argument with Jasper a few days ago, these copies proved that she could attack him and very much kill him if she got angry enough, and the worst is that she wouldn't even be conscious of her actions until it was done.
Rosalie didn't even want to think what that would do to Alice. It would break her if she were to hurt Jasper let alone kill him.
There was also the looming danger of Jasper getting difficult when Alice went into labor. Jasper was literally capable of killing them all in minutes any other day, if he felt threatened he wouldn't even hesitate to slaughter them all within seconds.
-These are notes taken from watching prisoners, lab rats to put it like that. Their behavior can't be taken word by word when it's clear they had been put through that against their will and in a hostile environment.- Carlisle told as a statement of fact.
Aside from the symptoms he wanted to approach this matter with a clean slate.
-Jasper and Alice are not being held here against their will, this is their home, they know they are safe here, and they know no one here means them any harm. I believe they won't pose a threat to us nor themselves.- Carlisle said, even if he said that he was hoping that he was right, this was just a theory.
He didn't want to think about having to watch Alice so she wouldn't end up killing Jasper because he so much as breathed.
For the time being she seemed quite at ease, but if these copies were something to go for, things would just get worse.
Hopefully, that wouldn't be the case.
