BATMAN BEYOND
The Next
Terry leans in towards the air vent grate, taking a glance at the next steps he will have to take in order to figure out how to deal with the tech robbers.
"What are you seeing kid?" Bruce asks while monitoring the police frequency lines in case he will have to tell Terry to get out of the area.
"Eight guys. Two big ones on either side, the others are smaller but are packing some real heat. Low tech as well, Looks like these ones are on high alert. Probably got a heads-up that the police are on the way. That means I need to speed up and take these guys out without alerting the others in the building."
Bruce locks onto the cameras in the building and checks on how many more thugs are in the building.
"Looks like the rest of the crew already got scared. Everyone is headed to the rooftop. Most likely they all had a failsafe precaution."
Curiously Terry calculates the information Bruce just told him. And asks him a simple question.
"So then why are these guys not moving out with the rest of them?"
The thug standing next to the window, carefully pulls the curtain slightly open, glancing outside, and takes a full breath attempting to self control his anxiety.
"Alright guys, it's starting to look like we're gonna have to go with the backup plan. The cops are going to show up soon and we need to set the explosives. Ajax you get the hostages, Mack you set the bombs. Jake and Sam, you make sure the chopper takes the guys from the roof. I'll deal with the cameras and distraction, and Cindy, you put on your civilian clothes and act like a hostage once the swat team shows up. It's about to be party time. One way or another, I'm taking some of these bastards with me. If this ship is going to sink, I'm going down with this ship. I'm not going to be locked up."
The bigger thug of the two in the middle of the room glances at his watch and takes the Minnie gun strapped to his side and loads it up. And heads to the window.
"You know, I read back in the 90s era, police actually had a hard time dealing with physical ammunition. Turns out, when a bullet enters into a body, if the ammunition is powerful enough, the hole it makes when coming out, is usually three times larger than the hole it made coming in. But bullets like fifty calibers don't make holes. They rip limbs off and cut people in half."
He turns and grins under his mask as he continues to finish his sentence.
"They banned weapons like this. It was actually incredibly difficult getting ahold of these weapons. Had to custom make the machinery peace by peace to put the bullets together myself. But boy oh boy is it going to be worth it. These police officers don't have anything to stop artillery of this nature. Just think of what's going to happen when I start shooting their hover choppers."
The second bodybuilder walked over to one of the duffle bags that they had brought with them. He opens it up and begins to strap extra body armor to himself, covering his body in its entirety.
He chuckles a little while strapping the armor on.
"Chances are, we're going to run into some head-on police resistance when we try to get out of here. I got no problem with some physical activity."
The girl starts to take his thuggish black and grey outfit off. And asks the rest of the group.
"So what are we supposed to do if The Batman shows up?"
And upon asking that question, she removes her mask and Terry widens his eyes in shock upon noticing who it is.
"Melanie"
He whispers to himself, only to have Bruce ask him, "What do you mean Melanie?"
Terry grunts in frustration as he begins to take out some smoke and pepper bombs from his utility belt and two flash-bangs.
"One of the thugs in the room. It's Melanie Walker. She's my ex-girlfriend. I have to deal with them all right now."
Bruce intervenes trying to talk sense to Terry before he does something that would only complicate things and make it harder for himself.
"Terry, don't do anything that's just going to make it harder for you. I know what you're feeling right now. I had the same things happen to me. And I can't even begin to tell you how many times I jumped into a deadly situation only to regret it later. If you hold off right now, you could"
"Sorry Bruce, but I'm going to handle this the same way you did back them."
Terry drops a flash bang through a slit in the air vent and as soon as it hits the floor he kicks open the grate, the room full of thugs turns to the vent and flash blinds them all.
He exits the air vent and lands on the floor, and quickly like a moving creature of the night, comes at the thug holding with the Minnie gun landing a powerful right cross to his jaw and knocking him through the glass.
Batman had already strapped a carbon fiber harness to the thug's belt and shot the other end to the ground. Keeping the man from falling to his death, but more than enough of a reminder that the weapon doesn't make the man.
Quickly Batman turns around while throwing a baterang with his right hand aimed at the shoulder of the second bodybuilder thug.
Quickly after the baterang penetrates the thug, Batman pulls out a flash bang, and a smoke bomb, throwing both to the ground and providing cover to the rest of his activity. While making sure to put an end to the rest of any other thugs he might have missed.
Melanie under pressure had exited the room and made a run for the fire escape stairway, thinking she could evade the dark figure that had started to attack her team members.
"Not Batman. That thing wasn't Batman. The bat doesn't wear a cape and moves around the room like a cursed figure of the night."
Unbeknownst to her, Batman had already tossed a tracking device upon her back when she had run towards the door to exit the room. He already knows where she's headed. Thusly he smiles knowing that he has more than enough time.
Terry kneels down and presses a button at the bottom of his ankle, activating the high pitch device, he takes it and clips it to his belt.
Bruce smiles once he sees the activation of the device turn on a high pitch noise on the bat computer.
"Calling in back up I see."
Thousands of bats begin to awaken in the Batcave and the city bats begin to awaken in all the dark corners of every alleyway and attics, and the shadows of churches.
They all are getting a single order, a call towards a single building. Giving Terry just enough time to run toward Melanie and lands right in front of her on the stairway.
Shocked she glances at him, baffled and speechless. But Batman breaks the silence between them with a simple order.
"Head to the alleyway. You have less than five minutes to get next to the dumpster. The police are going to be too distracted to do anything to stop you. If you want to avoid going to jail, this will be your only way out."
He points his grappling gun to the sky and sweeps off into the ceiling, vanishing up the stairway. And makes his way to the tugs on the rooftop as his swarm of bats has ruined their escape plan.
"Where the hell are these things coming from?"
Shouts the pilot of the flying escape cargo van. Unable to reach the team members on the rooftop as the police choppers have shown up on his radar, he turns back and punches his propulsion system to the maximum.
"Sorry guys, I can't be arrested in these conditions. This is one hell of a bad omen."
The police choppers arrive above the swarm and blast a bright spotlight on the rooftops being swarmed by bats for an entire block, obscuring their view.
Only to spot a few glimpses of a shadow figure attacking the few thugs on the rooftop, and leaving them unconscious.
Terry knows that any moment now, the swat team is going to come through the rooftop door, as well as multiple air police vehicles will surround the roof.
His one and only chance is to dive off and glide to the alleyway. Seeing this he told Ace to go to that very alleyway.
"Boss, I'm going to need some of your tech assistance to get a clean slate to avoid any problems while I deal with the traffic congestion here."
Bruce smiles ever so slightly as he realizes that this is going to put the real batmobile through a much-needed workout for the engine.
"I'm going to put in disruption within all the police frequencies for a brief moment, effectively shutting down all radar and communications. If they wanna catch you, they are going to have to do it the old-fashioned way. None of the new-era weapons or gadgets are going to work for them. And since you're in the area, it would have had an effect on your tech as well. Thankfully you're actually the real deal Batman right now. So technically, you hold the winning hand. As long as you play it right."
Terry smiles and gets on the edge of the building. Takes a deep breath, and jumps off with his cape spread, gliding him down, and at that moment… Ace… looks up and utters only two words at what she is seeing.
"My god."
Terry… The batman is gliding down with smoke covering him, thousands of bats surrounding him and police chopper lights all flickering and out of control.
Bruce types in a single command within the computer database.
: Blind as a bat:
Suddenly, all the computers and special gadgets the police carry, either shut off or go off on their own. Causing mass panic among law enforcement.
Batman lands in the alleyway and speaks silently.
"Batmobile. Come to me."
