Chapter 33
--
"Sasuke..?" Naruto took a step back, scratching the back of his head, a nervous grin plastered on his face.
As soon as they stepped inside the Uchiha manor, Sasuke had slammed the door closed, hard, startling the blonde. When the raven turned around his eyes were dark, intense, and they immediately locked onto Naruto. Sensing impending doom, the blonde continued to step back as the fuming Uchiha stepped towards him, his long strides closing the distance fast.
His back hit the wall, and he looked up to find Sasuke right in front of him, leaning close. Naruto moved to go around him, but Sasuke quickly slapped his hand against the wall next to him, barring his escape.
"What the hell! What are you doing?!"
Sasuke leaned in. "Naruto. I want us to leave together. Tonight."
The blonde stared at him. "Sasuke- I already told you! We. Are Not. Leaving."
The Uchiha grabbed his arm and yanked him close, their faces mere inches apart. "Why are you being so stubborn about this?" he growled out.
"Not everything can be about what you want!" Naruto shouted back.
Sasuke gritted his teeth as he struggled and failed to compose himself. "Dammit, Naruto. Why does everything always have to be a fight with you?!"
Naruto clenched his fists, his eyes burning into Sasuke's, before he finally looked away. "I don't want to leave, ok.." Naruto said quietly. "I.. I just want to be home-" he glanced up, ".. with you."
Sasuke looked surprised for a moment, not expecting Naruto to look so innocent, so.. vulnerable. He sighed. "Dobe." He pulled Naruto in, holding him close, burying his face in his unruly blonde locks.
I will take you away from here, Sasuke thought to himself, but I can wait.
For now.
Unbeknownst to Naruto and Sasuke, and apparently the entire village, a figure lurked in the shadows just outside of where the two stood, studying their surroundings.
Planning.
Zetsu had watched from the side of the Uchiha manor as the two boys reentered the home. He took note of the few shinobi that scouted the area, and the minimal security surrounding the actual estate.
Wow, they really made this quite easy, he thought, almost disappointed. He had expected more from the great Konohagakure.
Seems like they were far more concerned about keeping Sasuke in-
His form slowly started to sink back into the wooden exterior of the Uchiha manor, his disappearance as undetected as his arrival had been.
- when they should have been worried about keeping the rest of us out..
A grave mistake.
The two spent the remainder of the day doing their own separate things- getting some space from one another. Well.. Naruto was getting some space from Sasuke.
The Uchiha was being more overwhelming than usual today, and Naruto suspected it had a lot to do with Sai. He didn't know exactly why, but every time Sai was around him Sasuke became extremely possessive of Naruto. Hell, when Naruto first found him in Orochimaru's lair the Uchiha hadn't dropped down to get close to him until he caught a glimpse of Sai- his supposed replacement. The moment he did, he was pretty quick to invade Naruto's space.
Sasuke just always seemed so threatened by Sai's presence, and it was driving Naruto insane.
Sai is my friend. Sasuke can deal with his weird hang ups about that by himself.
"Naruto.."
The blonde looked up, surprised. He had been so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn't even hear Sasuke step into the living room. "Yeah?"
"There's.. something I want to try."
Cerulean eyes widened. This can't be good. "Does this have anything to do with your weird issues with Sai?" he stated, bluntly.
Dark eyes narrowed. "This has nothing to do with him."
"Uh-huh.."
"Interesting that he's still on your mind though" Sasuke all but growled out.
Naruto tilted his head. "You don't even see it, do you?"
"Apparently not" he ground out. "Go ahead, Naruto. Enlighten me."
Naruto smirked. "You're jealous of Sai."
Sasuke's eyebrow twitched.
"Oh- so maybe you do know what I'm talking about."
"Why would I be jealous?" Sasuke said, unconvincingly.
Naruto smirked, leaning back on the couch like a victorious king. "Because he was my friend when you were being an asshole."
Dark eyes locked onto him. "So, he was my replacement" he snarled, stepping towards him.
"What? No- that's not what I- you're twisting my words, Teme! Hey!"
Sasuke pushed him down on the couch and hovered over him, staring down at his nervous little blonde.
"So what if I am jealous?" he asked quietly.
Naruto stared up at him, surprised by the raven's sudden confession.
"What if I don't like how close he got to you when I was gone.." he went on, leaning in.
"Sasuke, it wasn't like-"
"I missed out on so much time with you" Sasuke cut in, "time he had."
He leaned closer. "How many times did you smile at him, laugh with him? How many times did you punch him for overstepping, and acknowledge him for stepping up..?"
Naruto's breath caught as Sasuke's face drew nearer, now only mere inches from his own.
"Those times belonged to me- and a different man was here to take them. Yes, Naruto. I am jealous. Because I know what being your friend is like.."
His lips lightly brushed against Naruto's as he spoke. "You're the kind of friend a man could fall in love with."
Then he kissed him- slowly, sensually.
Sasuke pressed all of his love and insecurities between them, like torn leaves between old pages.
"Kabuto, you have far exceeded expectations with this one."
The silver-haired snake grinned, golden eyes shining as his pearly whites gleamed. "Always happy to help a friend, Obito. Besides.." he glanced over at his newest creation, "I am curious to see how this will all play out".
"Why don't you join me, and find out for yourself?"
Kabuto pushed up his glasses, an old habit, as he studied Obito's twisted mask, finding the deep crimson eye barely visible through its one opening. "Are you sure? I thought this was a-" he looked across his lab, "family affair."
"Nonsense. Old friends are family.. when they prove themselves worthy." He looked across the room, a smile rising behind the mask. "And I would say that you have."
"Very well. Anything I should bring to this little reunion?"
Obito nodded. "Medical supplies. We will need to make sure our special guests join us without making too much of a fuss."
Kabuto's grin widened.
"I have just the thing."
Author Note:
Careful what you wish for, Sasuke!
~
Yeah- that's right people. I'm doing the slow build-up. Some of you might be irritated. A select few might be a little turned on right now. Either way- embrace it, because more is about to... come. ;)
"Don't roll your eyes. That was perfectly executed."
Eyes defy physics & logic, and probably other sciences, and never stop rolling*
"Whatever- just go to the next chapter.."
